Baca seterusnya...
Court overturns open verdict on Beng Hock...

The Court of Appeal in Putrajaya today unanimously overturned the coroner's open verdict following the inquest into the death of DAP political aide Teoh Beng Hock.

Due to the importance of the case, which has gripped public attention for the past five years, the court has written three separate judgments on its decision.

Justice Mah Weng Kwai is first to read his judgment. The other two judges who sat with him and who will also read out their decisions are Justice Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof and Hamid Sultan Abu Backer.

Justice Mohamad Ariff heads the three-member bench.

All three judges ruled that, “The death of Teoh Beng Hock was caused by multiple injuries from a fall from the 14th floor of Plaza Masalam as a result of or which was accelerated by an unlawful act or acts of persons unknown, inclusive of the MACC officers who were involved in the arrest and investigations of the deceased.”

Kini, Anwar mungkin dipenjara sekali lagi.

Ops Lallang bagaimanapun melangkaui bidang kuasa Menteri Pendidikan.

To Anwar’s critics, he is their wet dreams and nightmares...

Call him the whipping boy of Malaysian politics, the fall guy of the failings of his political rivals – the political punching bag.

That’s Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, the de facto leader of PKR, who has been accused of many wrongdoings that could have killed, or at the very least, send a lesser person to a mental institution.

He was accused, imprisoned and acquitted of sodomy, then accused yet again. Now he could be jailed.

Videos were posted of his alleged sexual tryst, which he not only later proved to be a doctored piece of work but that the blogger responsible was ordered to pay him RM500,000 in damages.

In the run-up to the Kajang by-election last March, Anwar was accused of having “orchestrated the culture of street demonstrations, riots and electoral fraud”.

He was also said to be the man responsible for the infamous Ops Lalang in 1987.

Former MCA vice-president Datuk Yap Pian Hon and MCA chief Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said when Anwar, who was the then Education Minister, transferred non-Mandarin speaking teachers to Chinese schools, the Chinese community protested, which led to large scale arrests.

Ops Lalang apparently went far beyond the Education Minister.

Political observer Lim Hong Siang was quoted by theantdaily that if that argument must stand, it would require a relook of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s position then.

“Najib was the Umno Youth chief then and he organised a rally to defend Anwar during that period,” Lim said, referring to a Kampung Baru stadium rally in 1987 where Najib had addressed thousands to counter demonstrations by Chinese-based parties and education boards over appointments of education officers in Chinese schools.

It was reported that Najib had allegedly led the rally and in his speech, vowed to bathe the keris with Chinese blood. Najib, however, denied making those remarks when questioned by the opposition in parliament.

Anwar labelled the MCA leadership as "stupid" for trying to link him to Ops Lalang.

But stupid or not, more mind-boggling insinuations have been thrown at the much maligned opposition leader afterwards.

When MAS flight MH370 disappeared last March 8, the pilot, Captain Zaharie Ahmad Shah, was described by several major national papers as an Anwar fanatical and obsessive supporter, who hours before the doomed flight left Kuala Lumpur, was said to have attended the trial in which Anwar was jailed for five years.

Clearly, it was an attempt to link Anwar to the plane that till today has still to be located.

Now, the latest of such accusations was made in the Kuala Lumpur Syariah High Court on Wednesday when Datuk Seri Mahmud Abu Bekir, the son of former Sarawak chief minister Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud, said Anwar and several others had colluded with his ex-wife and her lawyers in a “global politically-motivated” conspiracy to tarnish his father’s reputation.

Looking at the accusations against Anwar, it must be that either the opposition leader is so much hated and makes a perfect sin-bin or that he is indeed capable of what others are not.

What is clear, however, is that for those allergic to him, Anwar is everything – their wet dreams and nightmares, and lurks everywhere – in their bedrooms, offices and meeting chambers.- Jimmy Adit, theantdaily

cheers.
