Dakwat tersebut berwarna ungu/pink (purple with pinkish).

Indelible ink is .... delible...

Barely hours after ‘indelible’ ink was used for the first time in Malaysia, complaints have emerged that the ink is in fact removable.

This is contrary to the Election Commission’s (EC) assurance that traces of the ink would last at least seven days on the finger after being painted on with a brush.

One soldier, who had marked his ballot in advance voting this morning, said he had removed most of the ink with water alone - just six hours later.

NONE“Only 30 percent is left, and I haven’t even used soap yet. The standard is like stamp (ink) pads, which is not very strong.

“On the nails, it is 100 percent gone. It is a little difficult to remove from the seams. On the skin, I think it would be gone with rigorous washing with soap,” said the soldier in a text-message.

He did not wish to be identified.

PKR vice-president Tian Chua said some 20 security personnel had approached him to demonstrate how the ink can be “completely” removed with a hand sanitiser gel.

“This is very disappointing,” he said when contacted, adding that he had lodged a police report at 2pm today.

Tian Chua then went on to call for EC chief Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof’s resignation.

NONEAnother PKR vice-president, Nurul Izzah Anwar, tweeted that she had made a similar police report in Sentul after a military personnel showed how the ink could be removed with Dettol (a disinfectant brand) or hand sanitisers.

Asked by a Twitter follower how she knew that the claim was authentic, she replied, “Because the ink was slowly removed in front of us and the press.”

Photographs of index fingers stained with ink, matching the colour used in the advance voting today, have also been circulated on Facebook.

These show the ink in various stages of being removed. The captions state that thinner that is used to remove paint stains is an effective ‘indelible’ ink remover, while others claimed that soap works just as well.

In some images posted on the Internet, ink stains could still be seen on the edges of the fingernail after attempts to clean it off.

EC chief: Let the police investigate

Malaysiakini received a call from a person claiming to be a police personnel, who said the ink could be removed with thinner, but this could not be independently verified.

NONEWhen contacted for comment, Abdul Aziz (left) said via text-message: 'If that is the case, let the police investigate whether this is true, since they have already lodged police reports.'

"According to testing by the EC, it cannot be removed (with soap, thinner or hand sanitiser) and can still be detected," he added in another message.

The use of the ink is among the demands made by Bersih, the coalition for clean and fair elections.

This was subsequently taken up by the parliamentary select committee on electoral reform as a move to deter ‘phantom voters’ from voting several times under a false identity.

Meanwhile, independent election observer Pemantau told a press conference today that their observers have reported three cases of voters being able to remove the ink.

One case has been reported in Sibu, one in Kelantan, and the other in the Batu parliamentary seat in Kuala Lumpur.

Pemantau urged the EC to explain the situation as soon as possible and even replace the ink if necessary ahead of polling day on May 5.

Bersih steering committee member Maria Chin AbdullahPemantau's steering committee member Maria Chin Abdullah (right) said that the latest development "tantamounts to cheating" as the ink was supposed to prevent double voting.

She said that the EC should hold a public demonstration on the indelible ink as well to explain the usage of indelible ink before polling day.

Maria said that a police report has been lodged in Batu over the ink and the matter has been communicated to the EC by incumbent Batu MP Tian Chua.

"But the EC chairperson wants us to write an official letter. There's no time for this kind of bureaucracy," she said.- malaysiakini

Anwar faces last, best shot in Malaysia vote...

Cast into the political wilderness 15 years ago by Malaysia's regime, Anwar Ibrahim faces his best and possibly last shot at vengeance in climactic elections on Sunday.

The former heir-apparent to the ruling United Malays National Organisation (UMNO) is today its most feared enemy, having galvanised a diverse opposition that now dreams of unseating one of the world's longest-serving governments.

"I can be crazy in some ways, partly because I have gone through a lot," Anwar, 65, told AFP in an interview.

"But I just want to prove that you can run the country with good governance, eliminate corruption... and make Malaysia a mature democracy."

UMNO has towered over the moderate Muslim country through a coalition government since independence from Britain in 1957, but faces rising pressure over corruption and authoritarian tactics.

Much of the credit for the changing landscape goes to the mercurial Anwar, whose charisma, oratorical skills and appeal across multi-ethnic Malaysia's racial lines breathed life into a once-hapless opposition.

His three-party Pakatan Rakyat (People's Pact) faces a formidable, dug-in foe, yet many analysts say the result is too close to call.

An opposition victory would cap a remarkable journey for Anwar, whose chameleon career has transformed Malaysian politics.

He was an Islamic student leader whose natural political skills caught the eye of authoritarian former premier Mahathir Mohamad, who dominated Malaysia for 22 years and fast-tracked Anwar to the top.

Morphing into a reformist who was lionised in the West, Anwar looked set to succeed Mahathir.

But a 1998 power struggle between them, in which Anwar criticised cronyism and graft, saw him unceremoniously sacked and later jailed on sodomy and corruption charges widely seen as politically motivated.

His appearance in court with a black eye triggered global opprobrium and unprecedented anti-government protests in Malaysia, deeply polarising its politics.

"The groundswell in Malaysian society today is a direct result. Many people became disillusioned," said Ooi Kee Beng of the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies in Singapore.

Anwar says he was kept in solitary confinement, singing 1960s pop tunes to stay sane and reading the Koran, the Bible, Shakespeare -- anything he could get.

Released in 2004 when the sodomy charge was overturned, he later led the opposition to its best showing ever in 2008 polls, taking more than a third of parliament.

His personal travails continued, however -- he was acquitted last year of new sodomy charges after a lengthy legal battle he condemned as another UMNO bid to wreck his comeback.

Now in the clear, Anwar predicts victory and sweeping change for Malaysia.

He has pledged to root out rampant graft, free government-controlled traditional media and reform policies that give advantages to Malays but are criticised as a drag on the economy and a source of racial resentment.

A former finance minister, he advocates populist social and economic policies savaged by UMNO as fiscally irresponsible.

He insists, however, that attacking corruption and curbing illicit money outflows from Malaysia -- which total billions of dollars a year, according to watchdog groups -- will fund its agenda.

"Just by being transparent, we can achieve our goals," he said.

But Anwar also vows to step aside as leader if the opposition fails to take power.

Pakatan includes Anwar's diverse party, a secular one led by ethnic Chinese, and a conservative Islamic party representing the largest demographic, Muslim Malays. The latter's support for Islamic law has caused frictions.

Anwar's departure would leave the alliance with no central unifying figure, but he says "there is no indispensable person".

"People have to accept that I have given all that I have. I have given a lot of my personal life and suffered immensely."-AFP

Overwhelming response to mega 'Ubah' ceramah...
With five days more to polling day, Pakatan Rakyat returned to the Han Chiang College field to seek fresh support from thousands of Penangites to the state government for another term after May 5.

The overwhelming support from the crowd, which swelled to about 50,000 by 9pm when PKR supremo Anwar Ibrahim arrived, was a good indication that support for Pakatan from the non-Malays remains strong.

NONETo express further their support for Pakatan, Anwar, often touted as the seventh prime minister, was greeted with screams and cheers as he took to the stage to speak.

"If we look all around us in Penang, it seems that the 1Malaysia flags have won the elections, but on May 5, we will announce our victory," he said to loud and resounding applause.

He then repeated the Pakatan promises to reduce petrol price, provide free higher education and remove toll charges once the coalition assumes power in Putrajaya.

After Anwar left to attend a ceramah in Permatang Pauh, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng arrived, about 11.15pm and was greeted by the pouring rain and frenzied screams from the crowd.

'No free food... only free rain'

"We can't give you anything free, no free food or drinks but only free rain. Penangites are really brave to stay on despite the rain, not afraid of storms. Ini kalilah (this time)," Guan Eng said and the crowd replied 'ubah' (change) loudly.

"We must be brave to change. It is not easy as we need to win Penang. Will you give us the support?" He asked and the audience cried 'yes!'.

NONEDAP senior adviser Lim Kit Siang arrived at 11.30pm to even louder cheers from the people, who were now soaked in the rain and standing on muddy ground.

In his speech, the senior Lim told the supporters that Pakatan only wanted Anwar as prime minister.

"If we want Anwar to be PM, we need a political tsunami from north to south, east to west, to overcome the BN," Lim said, shielded by an umbrella under the pouring rain.

Guan Eng urged Penangites to help Lim, his father, to win in Gelang Patah by giving their votes to Pakatan in Penang.

"Ask your friends in Johor not to make any mistake again by voting for Kit Siang. If he loses, we don't want to be your friend anymore," he jested, and laughed aloud.

The venue is a historical site for Pakatan as a similar massive crowd had gathered there a day before the March 2008 election, a prelude to the coalition ousting the BN state government in Penang.

In that election, DAP swept all the 19 seats it contested, PKR nine and PAS won one. The remaining seats were won by Umno while its BN allies - Gerakan, MCA and MIC – lost all seats they contested.

The college field, which can fit about 60,000 people to the brim, is also significant because the BN has tried to compete with the crowd size with a concert by Korean superstar Psy on Feb 11, which attracted about 40,000 people.

Prime Minister Najib Razak and his entourage of wife and children and ministers also attended the event.

However, Najib and the BN leaders were disappointed when a section of the crowd replied 'No' three times when the premier asked if they were ready for the BN to take over.

NONEOn nomination day, April 20, the 1Malaysia Penang Welfare Club, which openly supports Najib and has flooded Penang with its blue flags, held a concert with many local and foreign superstars attending.

Although the organiser said that 101,002 tickets were sold, the crowd that attended the glamorous event was far less than that number.

Tonight’s DAP event was also necessary to fight a psychological warfare with BN, which through the 1Malaysia Penang Welfare Club has been wooing voters with free dinners, drinks and attractive lucky draws.

During the ceramah, many of the party leaders urged the crowd to enjoy the free meals and gifts but to cast their votes for Pakatan.

Supporters make donations as well

The DAP has been feeling a little shaky with the various gimmicks of the 1Malaysia Club, describing it as money politics out to draw votes from its supporters.

Earlier, as early as 7pm, all roads leading to the Han Chiang College were jam packed with cars parked up to 1km away.

Pakatan leaders, including DAP chairperson Karpal Singh, took turns to address the crowd while waiting for Guan Eng and Kit Siang, to arrive on the scene.

By the time Karpal spoke, the rain had poured mercilessly, but the crowd with their raincoats and umbrellas did not budge.

Most of the speakers made the called for Guan Eng to be retained as chief minister, to which the crowd responded loudly and positively.

Throughout the event, screams and shouts of 'Ubah! Ini Kalilah!' were heard from many in the crowd, a number of whom also made donations to the DAP election campaign.

As the event came to an end, party officials announced to the crowd that a total of RM236,000 had been received.-malaysiakini

“Saya ingin memberitahu Mahathir bahawa saya bukan Najib.

Anwar kemudiaan menjelaskan tentang perpaduan kaum, beliau berkata: “Saya seorang Melayu, saya seorang Melayu berbangga… tetapi untuk menjadi seorang Melayu berbangga…
