Tan Sri Muhammad Muhd Taib menyokong Presiden PKR Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail sebagai calon paling layak menjadi menteri besar Selangor, bagaimanapun nama lain perlu diberikan selepas pihak istana memberi isyarat.

– tmi

"Kita kena jadi praktikal, kalau sekali bukan Melayu buat keputusan lain, habis nanti," katanya.‎

Malah Muhammad juga berkata, bekas perdana menteri Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad pun pernah tewas kerana hilang sokongan pengundi bukan Melayu.

"Dr Mahathir pun pernah tewas pada tahun 1969 semasa bertanding di Kota Setar," kata Muhammad yang baru menyertai PAS sebelum Pilihan rRya Umum ke-13 (PRU13) lalu.

Kebelakangan ini, beberapa kenyataan pimpinan PAS khususnya menyerang rakan mereka DAP memberikan persepsi tidak baik khususnya di kalangan pengundi bukan Melayu.

Beberapa siri kenyataan kontroversi pemimpin PAS mengundang rasa kurang senang di kalangan pengundi bukan Melayu, ditambah dengan cara parti Islam itu mengendalikan krisis menteri besar Selangor.

Ahli Parlimen Temerloh Nasruddin Hassan baru-baru ini diugut saman oleh DAP kerana kenyataan tidak berasas berkenaan terowong bawah laut Pulau Pinang.

Selain insiden tersebut, Pengarah Operasi Pusat Penyelidikan PAS (PPP) Dr Mohd Zuhdi Marzuki juga dikecam susulan kenyataan perkauman yang didedahkan menerusi ruang perbualan WhatsApp. – tmi

Ex-MB: Keep calm and give sultan more names...

Former Selangor menteri besar Muhammad Muhammad Taib has called on Pakatan Rakyat parties to submit more names to the palace with regard to the MB post.

The former Umno man, who is now with PAS, said if the palace wanted more names, then this must be done immediately.

"All three parties must calm down and immediately send more names for consideration," Muhammad said.

Speaking at a forum on the Selangor MB crisis at the Karangkraf headquarters in Shah Alam, he argued that PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail is "overqualified" for the post.

Muhammad said the wife of opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim was better qualified compared to most MBs who held the post before this.

"She is one of the best candidates to be MB," he added, without elaborating.

In a cryptic remark, Muhammad also criticised outsiders for meddling in the state’s affairs but did not mention who he was referring to.

"I'm a Selangor resident, this is my state. People from outside Selangor do not have to come here and insist their values here," he said.

As for PAS, Muhammad warned the Islamic party that it cannot risk losing Chinese and Indian support in the elections.

He also shot down the idea of a PAS-Umno cooperation.

"A PAS-Umno cooperation is not good. We already have a two party system in the country.

"Let PAS be with Pakatan and let Umno be with their components. You do not like one of them, you choose the other," he said.

"Remember, if Chinese and Indians do not vote for PAS, PAS will lose. I have been through so many elections, I know.

"When they vote for you, they will do so in droves. When they desert you, they will all do so," he added.

Meanwhile, constitutional expert Abdul Aziz Bari, who also sat on the panel, said the water deal being signed by the Selangor state government can be challenged by the new state government.

This is because the legality of the Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, whose resignation has merely been delayed until a successor is appointed, is "questionable."

"The deal will be binding on the new government but this can be challenged in court," he added.

He said that Khalid cannot be considered a "caretaker" MB because that only applies to a situation during or post elections.

"I''m still looking for a term to describe his position. He lost his majority. He should have immediately resigned," he added. - mk

Queens ruled in Acheh, so Azizah can be MB...

Seven Islamic NGOs have backed PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail for the Selangor menteri besar post on the basis that the Acheh Sultanate had been ruled by queens.

Spokesperson for the group, the Centre for Studies in Modernity and Civil Society (Cesmacs) director Muhammad Nur Manuty said the Acheh Islamic government had been ruled by four successive female monarchs between 1641 and 1689.

They are Queen Sofiatuddin (1641-1675), Queen Naqiatuddin (1675-1678), Queen Zakiatuddin (1678-1688) and Queen Kamalat Syah (1688-1689).

“The rule of these female rulers for 59 years in Acheh clearly shows that they can govern fairly, and were successful in providing welfare for the people,” he told a press conference in Shah Alam today.

The former PKR information chief added that Islam does not forbid women from taking on leadership roles, and women have become presidents and prime ministers in Indonesia, Pakistan, and Bangladesh as well.

When asked to comment about doubts about Wan Azizah’s capabilities after an incident in June where her written questions to the Selangor State were rejected, Muhammad Nur said Wan Azizah’s track record needs to be evaluated as a whole.

“Whatever we want to use to measure up a person, let it be comprehensive and not based on a single incident.

“Recently she had just become a Selangor assemblyperson so in Selangor’s context, she is still new, but she has been an MP since 1998,” he said.

In June, Selangor speaker Hannah Yeoh reportedly rejected all 10 questions that Wan Azizah submitted on the basis that it exceeded a requirement that the questions are limited to 40 words or less. She was sworn into office two months before.

Meanwhile, Nik Yusof Nik Ismail from Badan Dakwah Selangor rebutted allegations that Wan Azizah is a puppet to her husband and PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim.

He said Wan Azizah can listen to advice from any person, but the final decision rests with her alone.

Also present at the press conference this morning were representatives from the NGOs Wadah Selangor, Selangor Abim, Yayasan Takmer, and Pusat Kerohanian.- mk

Saya setuju Dato Muhammad Mohd Taib. Usaha terus....
