"Orang Malaysia, termasuk saya, bodoh tak tahu uruskan MAS" kata Mahathir...

Syarikat penerbangan negara Malaysia Airline System Berhad (MAS) mengalami kerugian kerana rakyat Malaysia tidak pandai menguruskannya, kata bekas perdana menteri Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

MAS failed because M'sians stupid, says ex-PM...

"Malaysians are stupid. They don't know how to manage aviation."

These were the comments made by former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad over Christoph R Mueller's appointment as chief executive officer-designate of Malaysia Airlines Bhd (MAS NewCo).

Mahathir said that because Malaysians do not know how to manage aviation, that was the reason why the company had incurred losses.

"And now those responsible for the losses try to make things right," he told reporters at a Proton event in Kuala Lumpur today.

Khazanah Nasional in August announced a RM6 billion plan to rescue ailing MAS aimed at returning it to profit within three years or by 2017.

The plan was for the company to be relisted if and when it becomes profitable, but it has to be within five years of delisting.

MAS has not been performing well over the past years, but its fortunes took a nosedive this year with the double air tragedies involving a still missing MH370, and MH17 downed in Ukraine.

Critics have accused Khazanah's touted "investment" of the loss-making venture of being a government bailout.

'Don't sign TPPA'

Meanwhile, commenting on the government's plan to sign the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPPA) and its effects on Proton, Mahathir said they will try to compete with superpowers like the United States.

"I hope the government does not sign the TPPA. But if it signs it, then we will try to compete.

"But even with the Asean Free Trade Area (Afta) there are problems," he said, then pointing out that the US was not a small country as it produces 11 million cars.

"Proton comes out with 150,000 cars. So I can say that we are handicapped.

"But nevertheless, if the TPPA is signed, then we will have to find a way to survive," he said.- mk

Democracy - Malaysian's are stupid? Yet you sold MAS to Tajuddin Ramli who started all the mess in MAS. Prior to this MAS was as good as SIA. Isn't Tony Fernandez a Malaysian who brought Air Asia to world class airline. Is it more of UMNO cronies are stupid and the rest of Malaysians are smart?

malaytoo - The most stupid must be the person who approved MAS takeover of Tajudin and after all that called everyone else stupid.

Anonymous_3e86 - It was his crony, Tajuddin Ramli, who started the destruction of MAS. It was DR M's idea to privatise MAS. See what has become of it.

Fadzli Hussin - MAS gagal sebab org politik bodoh, beli saham MAS pd harga RM8 sesaham... Rupanya nilai saham hanya 20 sen. Dah lah MAS kena main dgn org korporat sampai rugi, pegi bayar pulak org yg melingkupkn MAS sampai RM600 juta. Inilh bala bila pilih org bodoh mentadbir negara.

Bamboo - It's that Malaysians are stupid. It's because of greedy people like Dr M who started the rot in Mas. It was under Dr M with privatization of Mas to your crony Tajuddin Ramli. That started the downward spiral of Mas with vultures coming in with inflated priced contracts for supplies, bloated staffing which has put Mas in its dire situation now. Now trying to wash your hand off the Mas situation. This is one of many shitty situation that you have led us to.

Rafizi says lawyers eager to grill Rosmah in court...

PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli welcomes the possibility of being hauled to court by Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and his wife, Rosmah Mansor, over the issue of a mysterious multi-ringgit diamond ring.

The Pandan lawmaker said since he is being sued over the “so-called cincin (ring)”, he is more than happy for the opportunity to take the stand in his defence.

“The ring has been a source of intrigue for years,” he told Malaysiakini. “I am sure many lawyers are eager to cross-examine Rosmah.”

Rafizi also ruled out tendering a public apology as stipulated in the letter of demand from Najib and his wife through their lawyers on Thursday.

“That is out of the question. On the contrary, I am thinking about taking up advertisements in newspapers to state that I will not apologise.

“This is because one of the demands is that I must advertise my apology. Let’s see which newspapers are willing to run my advertisement not to apologise,” he said.

Commenting further on the legal threat, Rafizi said the legal action showed BN leaders were too scared to engage the opposition.

Far from feeling intimidated, he said Pakatan Rakyat leaders would “jump with joy” when given this rare opportunity to quiz government leaders.

“How can Najib or Rosmah avoid taking the stand (if the matter goes to court)? My only fear is that they might not go ahead with the suit.”

Rafizi cited the case of former minister and Wanita Umno chief Shahrizat Abdul Jalil who avoided taking the witness stand after filing a suit against him over the National Feedlot Corporation scandal.

“I maintain what I said (in his speech) was correct. I am satisfied that I will be able to defend myself in open court. But can Najib and Rosmah stand up to scrutiny?”

Court the next best thing

Instead of legal action, Rafizi said Najib should have the courage to have an open debate on the petrol subsidies issue. The government withdrew subsidies for both RON95 and diesel petrol this month.

“Nevertheless, an open court is the next best thing,” he added.

The letter of demand is over a speech made by Rafizi on Nov 23 in Kuala Lumpur.

Touching on fuel prices, Rafizi had said that each month the Umno government saved RM1 billion from the removal of the subsidies, which could be used to purchase 20 expensive rings for Rosmah, each costing RM20 million.

The letter of demand stated that the allegations against the couple were “baseless and false” made with the “primary intention of attacking and damaging” their reputation for no justifiable reason.

It also added that the allegations had caused Najib and Rosmah great distress and embarrassment.

In July 2011, the prime minister’s wife denied that she had purchased a multi-million ringgit diamond ring.

The opposition had then alleged that a diamond ring - dubbed ‘Natural Fancy Gray Cushion Cut Diamond’ which was priced at RM24,458,400 - was flown into the country by special courier. The existence of the ring was later confirmed by the Customs Department.

Last year, US-based jeweller Jacob & Co denied the ring was brought into the country under Rosmah’s name or that it was purchased by her.- mk

Ramai peguam mahu soal Rosmah

cheers.
