Anwar denies seeing second 'teaser'

NONEOpposition leader and PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim said that he had not watched the second "teaser" of the sex video which allegedly features a nude man resembling him.

"I and (PKR president and his wife Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail), all we saw was what was in the public media because it is a crime to watch pornography and to distribute it, and it is also wrong in syariah law," said Anwar.

He was speaking to reporters at the compound of the Dang Wangi district police station after giving his statement for about an hour on the sex video.

Anwar, together with Dr Wan Azizah, had lodged a police report last month, just a day after footage from the video was shown to journalists at Carcosa Seri Negara in Kuala Lumpur. It featured a man resembling Anwar having sex with a woman claimed to be a prostitute. The opposition leader has vehemently denied he was the man involved.

However, two short clips of the video have surfaced on the Internet, believed to be the beginning and the end segments of the 22-minute video with the latest one uploaded yesterday.

"I have said since the beginning, that there is criminal intimidation against me and (Wan Azizah) to resign, so it is clear that there is political motive from Umno," said Anwar.

'Video is Najib's main strategy'

He later added that the video was Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's main strategy against Pakatan Rakyat and PKR.

"Yes, it is his main strategy as well as other instruments of power, such as the media of TV3, Utusan Malaysia and the courts. They can't fight us on other issues like corruption and governance, so they have to resort to this dirty, scurrilous attacks on people's characters," said Anwar.

The brief six-minute press conference in the police headquarters also became heated with some fiery exchanges between him and a female broadcast journalist, with some strange questions thrown in by other journalists.

NONEBelow are excerpts from the press conference.

Reporter: Will you be taking an oath?

Anwar:
Refer to (former Perlis mufti Asri Zainul Abidin's statements) on the law and the syariah court. According to the Islamic law, those who take this kind of oath must be free from major sins, must not drink alcohol or commit adultery.

Does this mean that you won't be taking the oath?

I was not asked by anyone to do it. Whose law are you following? Are you Muslim? Do you know whose law it is? Ok.

Did the police ask you about the Omega watch?

Another question please.

What about statements that people said that the video was made with the technique from (local film) 'Hikayat Merong Mahawangsa'?

If it's so detailed, then it's obvious that Umno and the party leaders, together with Najib, have to answer why pornography has become an important strategy to keep him and (his wife Rosmah Mansor) in power, and how he used (Malay daily Utusan Malaysia) and (pro-Umno news portal Agenda Daily) as cheap tools to commit crimes which are so dirty and vile, and how he wants to ruin a family's dignity.

What about your DNA? Businessman Shazryl Eskay Abdullah has given his DNA already.

Are you from TV3? What DNA do you want? What DNA do you want? What DNA do you want?

No, I want to ask you if you are willing to give your DNA if the police were to ask for it.

Don't be rude to me. Ask another question. TV3 is a cheap tool of Umno and I want you to remember that.

Do you know Shazryl Eskay?

(Anwar starts to walk away).
