Suruhanjaya Pilihan Raya (SPR) mengumumkan pilihanraya kecil DUN Permatang Pasir jatuhnya pada 25 Ogos, awal Ramadhan, dan penamaan calon pula 17 Ogos.PRK ke-8 ini diadakan susulan kematian wakil rakyatnya, ADUN PAS,Datuk Hamdan Abdul Rahman pada 31 Julai lalu.
Dalam pilihanraya umum lalu, Mohd Hamdan memperolehi 11,004 undi untuk menewaskan calon BN dari Umno, Ahmad Sahar Shuib dengan majoriti 5,433 undi. Ahmad Sahar mendapat 5,571 undi.
Polling for the Permatang Pasir state seat in Penang has been set for Aug 25 while nomination falls on Aug 17.Pakatan Rakyat is expected to announce its candidate on Thursday for the by-election, and will face Umno which has already expressed its intention of contesting.
The seat fell vacant following the death of incumbent assemblyman Datuk Mohd Hamdan Abdul Rahman of PAS on July 31.
Mohd Hamdan garnered 11,004 votes to defeat BN’s Ahmad Sahar Shuib by a majority of 5,433 votes in the March 2008 general election.
