We were assaulted, despite being guests at Ah Jib Gor's event...

NONEKajang municipal councillor Lee Kee Hiong said today she and her entourage of some 20 former and current municipal councillors and residents, wearing green shirts, attended the groundbreaking ceremony for a new school in Bandar Sungai Long yesterday as guests.

"We were not  ‘samseng’ (hooligans) as accused by an Umno minister," she said.

Lee denied that the group was there to make trouble and had trespassed into BN’s ceremony, as claimed by Agriculture and Agro-based Industries Minister Noh Omar.

To prove her point, Lee showed a copy of BN’s invitation leaflet which she had received at her house in Sungai Long, which is very close to the function venue.

As such, it was her belief that she was also invited as a guest, and her attendance at the function was to share the joy with other residents at a long-awaited new Chinese school for Bandar Sungai Long.

NONEThis is the SRJK(C) we had fought for over a period of 12 years. We have waited patiently, no way (were we going to) mess up the ceremony,” Lee (left in picture) said.

“We were assaulted by a group of people, and then Noh showed up to accuse us of making trouble... I was very surprised by this,” she told a press conference in Bandar Mahkota Cheras today.

“In fact, I regretted that he didn’t apologise for the incident. We were prevented from entering and were beaten up,” she said, adding that Noh, as Selangor BN deputy chief, should have invited them in.

‘Please write only BN supporters are welcome’

“Next time, please write (on the leaflets) that the function is only meant for BN supporters,” Lee said.

Also present at the press conference were several others who claimed to have been assaulted yesterday, including fellow Kajang municipal councillors Cheong Siow Foon and Ng Tien Chee; Chen Fandao, an aide to the Serdang MP; and a DAP member, Chan Huan Guan.

NONECheong (right in picture), said his choice to dress in green was a sign of a silent protest.

He said his intention was to show the prime minister (Najib Abdul Razak) that the rakyat opposed the Lynas rare earth plant in Gebeng, Kuantan.

Cheong also said that the man who assaulted him had also tried to snatch his cellphone, and he fought back.

“I use the cellphone to store photos of my little daughter, from the day she was born until she was 15 months old. I don’t have other copies,” he said.

NONE“I am very angry ....they are not only samseng, but robbers, too. All this happened while the police were around,” he added.

However, Chan
(left in picture) wasn’t so lucky. He claimed that his gold necklace, with a Buddha relic pendant, which was a gift from his mother 20 years ago, was snatched away during the chaos.

Chan estimated that the necklace was worth about RM5,000.

'Directors have taken out RM81.4mil from NFC'

Directors of the National Feedlot Corporation (NFC) have transferred close to RM81.4 million from the company account to those of external companies as of 2009, DAP national publicity chief Tony Pua said today.

The amount, he said, is held by private companies under the directors without any guarantee  that the sum would be returned to NFC.

"The directors have emphasised that all these companies are either subsidiaries or associated with NFC.

“But the accounts since 2007 showed NFC has no subsidiaries," he said at a press conference at the DAP headquarters in Kuala Lumpur this morning.

The NFC's 2009 audit report states:"Included in other receivables and deposits of the company is an amount of RM81,324,745 (2008: RM32,275,493) due by companies which are associated with certain directors of the company.

"The amounts are unsecured and have no fixed term of repayment."

Pua said: "This means that we don't know if we can get the money back."

Audit reports for 2008 and 2009

Reiterating that lending directly to company directors is against the Companies Act 1965, Pua speculated that the amount may have ballooned to over RM100 million after 2009, the accounts of which  have yet to be published.

NONEThe audit reports of 2008 and 2009 listed  the company directors as Women, Family and Community Development Minister Shahrizat Abdul Jalil’s (right) husband Mohamad Salleh Ismail and their three children, namely Wan Shahinur Izran Mohamad Salleh, Wan Izzana Fatimah Zabedah Mohamad Salleh and Wan Shahinur Izmir Mohamad Salleh.

The other five appointed directors were A Manaf Hussin, Mohd Mokhtar Ismail, Mat Ali Hassan, Raj D Ratnakumar and Norzam Md Nor.

However, Ratnakumar and Norzam resigned in 2009 while Alias Mohd Yassim was appointed in May 2010.

“Given that this amount of money was funded by taxpayers, I call upon NFC to immediately disclose every single cent of the RM81.4 million.

“There is a great need for accountability, money from the government cannot be used for anything or hidden away, it must be transparent and taxpayers must be informed,” he said.

If NFC fails to immediately disclose all the private companies that have drawn money from NFC, Pua said, he will push this matter before the Public Accounts Committee which will meet on Mar 5.

“I will make sure NFC is at the top of the agenda... I will demand a list of other receivables from who and to where,” he said.

According to its audit report from LM Chan & Associates, NFC had in 2007 suffered a loss of RM1.94 million, followed by RM7.04 million and RM10.94 million in 2008 and 2009, respectively.

For 2008 and 2009, NFC’s revenue cost exceeded its gross revenue, thus suffering a loss even before other operating costs and expenses were deducted.

As of 2009, it had piled up a total loss of RM19.93 million.

The audit reports also showed that the directors had forked out a total of RM1.11 million for the National Feedlot Project, however, the remaining was from the RM250 million government soft loan granted to NFC. - malaysiakini

AG returns NFC investigation papers to police...
The public who are eager to see the outcome of the National Feedlot Corporation (NFC) scandal will have to wait longer as the attorney-general has sent the investigation papers back to the police, requesting for more probes.

According to the police Facebook, deputy inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar said the AG wanted more investigations to be conducted on the case, but did not specify why the papers were sent back to the police.

"The police will gather more evidence and the necessary information in accordance to the request by the AG's Chambers," he said.

Earlier on, Bukit Aman Commercial CID director Syed Ismail Syed Azizan revealed that the police has proposed that the AG charge NFC chairperson Mohamed Salleh Ismail, the husband of Women, Family and Community Development Minister Shahrizat Abdul Jalil, with criminal breach of trust.

This prompted NFC to respond, describing Syed Ismail’s statement as "premature"
because the investigations are still under way.

NFC’s statement was then echoed by Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, who asserted that the decision on any charges against individuals linked to the NFC will be decided solely by the AG. -malaysiakini

Why we fear of Felda Global Venture Holdings listing...

NONE Between his two brothers, his wife and himself, plus the shares inherited from his parents, Felda Sendayan settler R Thangam's family has about a million Koperasi Permodalan Felda (KPF) shares.

As an extended family which most likely has the largest shareholding in KPF, Thangam's family - one of the few non-Malays to take part in the land-for-the-poor project - is in for big bucks in the proposed listing exercise.

"We can make millions from the Felda Global Ventures listing exercise. But I don't support it. This is our pension and we don't want to gamble with it on the stock market," he said when met on Wednesday.

Born into the settlement scheme some 50 years ago, Thangam's plush home in Bandar Sri Sendayan, less than a kilometre away from the Felda settlement in Negeri Sembilan, is a far cry from his humble beginnings as a rubber tapper.

Having returned to Felda Sendayan at 29, after 11 years in the army, Thangam slowly built his savings through KPF shares and now cannot stomach the risk of rendering them into "useless pieces of paper".

He said in all, the family collectively gets at least RM15,000 a month as dividends - KPF has paid out an average 14 percent in the last 30 years - and that sum is enough for them to stop working.

"It's true that there could be really big profits to be made in the stock market, but with KPF, we have a guaranteed dividend of 10 percent. Is this also going to be guaranteed if we list?" he asks.

FGVH is offering to buy KPF's 51 percent stake in Felda Holdings - the parent company - in return for the same stake in FGVH, but analysts believe KPF's stake will drop to about 37 percent with the initial public offering.

While this is a minority shareholding, it is estimated to value about RM4 billion - RM1 billion more than what KPF's majority shareholding in Felda Holdings is now worth.

"Sure, it is more but how much will the settlers receive? They keep saying windfall, but how is it going to be distributed?" asked Thangam.

Booted out of meeting hall

The father of six added that only about 60 individuals hold 250,000 KPF shares - the maximum for any individual - with the 2010 annual report showing that about 60,000 people hold less than 500 units.

"So how will these people be made millionaires as promised by Isa Samad?" he asked.

Asking these questions in KPF's briefing on the matter last week landed Thangam, who is also PKR Rasah deputy division chief, in hot water with Felda chairperson Isa, who booted the settler out of the hall.

NONE"It's just not right," said Saparuddin Mohd Yassin, 62, whose holds 250,000 KPF shares and is a former settler from Sendayan. His father joined the scheme in 1970.

"As shareholders, we want to know what will happen to our shares? Do we exchange them for FGVH shares? Is it a one-to-one exchange? How many shares will be made available to KPF members?" he said, listing out the yet unanswered questions.

Having retired from a golf course consultancy company, Saparuddin uses his KPF dividends of about RM3,000 a month for day-to-day expenses and he smells something fishy in the lack of information over the deal.

"If it really benefits us then why are they sneaking around about it. Just tell us the details," said the former Sendayan Umno branch chief, who left the party after being "bitten" by the state government in 1996.

In 1996, Felda Sendayan settlers chopped down their rubber trees and sold their land to the state government, then led by Isa, only to be given 10 percent of the promised sale price.

After about a decade of tussling, most of the settlers reluctantly accepted the new "package" offered by new Menteri Besar Mohamad Hasan at a loss.

isa samad 061009 smileThose met by Malaysiakini around Felda Sendayan confess they hold a grudge against Isa (left) for his hand in the Sendayan land deal, and are equally suspicious of what he promises now as Felda boss.

To add to this fear, Saparuddin rattles out the names of government-backed companies which have failed at the stock market.

His fear is not entirely unfounded. A
Reuters report says "investors are wary over the listing because the government is likely to retain significant influence over the new company through shareholdings".

Investors also share Saparuddin's worry over tainted Isa, who was found guilty of vote buying in Umno elections seven years ago,  the newswire reported.

Sentimental link to land

For Thangam, it is also the sentimental value of the Felda land. Even though the FGVH listing will not touch settlers' land, it includes some 350,000ha of Felda Plantations' land.

The son of an estate worker whose decision to enter the Felda scheme changed his family's fate, Thangam remembers well their poor beginnings when they had to fight off locusts to grow rice to eat.

NONE"Why should this land be released to the open market? It should stay in Felda, in Malaysian hands. I'd rather they open the land to new settlers. Felda is the blood and sweat of the settlers," Thangam said.

While the doors are still open to KPF, Isa insists that the listing will go ahead, with or without the cooperative on board.

Analysts believe that this will be bad for KPF shareholders as they will not hold a stake in FGVH-controlled subsidiaries, where all the high-growth businesses and projects are likely to be parked.

In such a case, the
New Straits Times reported that Felda Holdings' revenue will be undermined, making it difficult to give out guaranteed dividends.

"But the fact is, we are guaranteed 10 percent dividend with KPF. Depending on how well FGVH does on the market, it could be 5 percent and what can we eat with that?" Saparuddin asked.

NONEAnd with Isa announcing that a special purpose vehicle will be set up to represent settlers' interests in the listing exercise, it appears that KPF shareholders who are settlers will still get a piece of the listing pie.

If there is indeed a windfall, Thangam hopes the benefits will be shared with settlers in the form of KPF shares.

"You can't blame the older settlers for giving the money to their children as it is out of love, but they don't realise that they'll need some for their later years too," Thangam added.- malaysiakini

Peneroka bimbang risiko penyenaraian FGVH

The Felda Listing

The question we should ask all thought leaders of FELDA is this. Why should a loss making business entity, be allowed to do a reverse takeover of FELDA holdings?

FGV owns 49% of FELDA Holdings which has been making money all the time. FGV hasn’t got a track record and has no standing at all to come out with this proposal in the first place.

Can FELDA tell everyone, how much did FGV lose really? We were only told of losses amounting to RM 500 million. One thing we do know is, FGV is consistent. It has CONSISTENTLY lost money for 5 consecutive years. Perhaps Dato Sabri Ahmad can disclose fully and honestly, how much FGV lost during those 5 years. Maybe he has gone to the PM and reported everything is OK sir. Najib is pleased to hear that kind of story.

If FGV lost money over 5 consecutive years that would strongly suggest that it is incompetent. Two, it would also suggest, just as in most GLC’s subsidiary companies, some people got very rich while the companies they helmed suffers financial hemorrhage. Before FGV comes along and wishes to take FELDA Holdings, it must come clean about itself.

What is the purpose of this listing? Is it an attempt to save a losing business concern (FGV) itself? Is it done to raise money for FELDA? but FELDA has a lot of money. It has the mother lode of financial resource which is provided by their palm oil plantations. Unless you are a super moron, all plantations make money.

Remember...MAS was making money and doing fine, when suddenly some smart alec suggested that it was good to privatize MAS. So Tajuddin Ramli in the name of service to the nation agreed to take 32% of MAS provided he was given a guarantee over his purchase of the share. Mahathir gave him that because he considers Tajudin as a captain that can pilot the NEP objectives.

So, can we ask FELDA how much they paid Ethos to come out with the listing proposal? It must be a large amount, sufficiently large to allow a leading member of Ethos to buy a RM 15 million penthouse unit in an upscale condominium.

So, we ask Dato Sabri(right, below), lets asked him 2 questions. (1) How much did FGV lose really and (2) How much did FELDA pay Ethos?

Because the PM guarantees it says Chairman Isa(right). Coming from someone who has made a mess of Negri Sembilan- now that’s something. Isa is the man of Mahathir’s heart. The captain of the NEP.The government is bent in seeing the listing.

Maslan said the listing exercise will raise RM 21 billion.

How much will FELDA get? I was told that Dato Sabri told the PM, the bulk of the money raised will be channeled to the PM’s department.

The PM is elated at the prospects of getting RM 13 billion or so. He can go back to Pekan and replace all the dilapidated hoses of the rakyat in Pekan. His generosity will be ululated by the ladies and wanita UMNO Pekan for generations to come.

FELDA will probably get RM 8 billion. That will mean PM department will get around RM 13 billion to allow the PM to play Santa Claus for a long time like in the above example we gave.

What will FELDA do with the RM 8 billion? Since it has borrowed money from EPF, it must now pay EPF. The outstanding is about RM 3 billion. If FELDA pays RM 3 billion, it is left with 5 billion. From this 5 billion, it must pay the windfall to FELDA settlers- 112,000 of them. That will probably mean another RM 2 billion gone.

Yes, my FELDA brothers-It’s not FGV or the government that will pay the windfall. That money comes from FELDA itself out of the profit share it gets from the listing. The biggest beneficiary is the PM’s department which will get some 13 billion from the listing exercise. That is why the PM supports the listing of an otherwise loss making concern.

With RM 3 billion left, Felda can operate at its current level of providing benefits to the 112,000 settlers in the various FLEDA schemes for only one year. After that, it will be reduced to a beggar.

With the listing, what will the settlers lose? It will lose the bulk of revenue. How come? It will immediately lose the 350,000 hectares of oil palm plantations managed by FELDA Plantations. The 350,000 hectares of land will be leased to FGV for 99 years.

FELDA needs around RM 3 billion each year. From its plantation business, it gets about RM 2 billion a year and the balance it gets from its other investments. With the cessation of 350,000 hectares, FELDA is left with about RM 400 million a year. With the 400 million, how will FELDA provide welfare to the 112,000 FELDA settlers and to FELDA schemes?

What about the terms of the lease? We have not seen the terms of the 99 year lease. How will FELDA get paid? It’s said that FELDA will get paid every quarter? Why every quarter when FGV makes monthly profits? Why is the lease to FGV revisable only at 20 year intervals?

Why is the lease to FGV revisable only at 20 year intervals?  Sabri Ahmad and Isa Samad must come out with full disclosure about the listing.-Mohd.Ariff Sabri bin Hj. Abdul Aziz.aka sakmongkol.blogspot.com

Ex-CCID cheif Ramli Yusuff says,AG Gani Patail 'fixed' me...

ramli yusuff asset declare case 120310 04
Former Commercial Crimes Investigation Department chief Ramli Yusuff(left) described in detail yesterday how he and his men had been fixed by the attorney-general since 2007, and how they were vindicated by the courts in being acquitted of the charges.

He also described how the AG, Abdul Gani Patail, used the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) against him and his men.

Celebrating his birthday again on a leap year yesterday, Ramli said in a speech that it all began when his officers were entrusted with taking action against a syndicate member who was sent to Jeli, in Kelantan to serve restricted residence (RR) order.

The man had been accused of being involved in organised crime, including loan sharking, running an illegal lottery syndicate, prostitution and drug pushing in Johor.

"This information was given by the then deputy home minister (Johari Baharom), and the matter was considered a ‘top secret' and highly confidential case. Later, I was told to report to him directly after the file was completed.

"Accordingly, I instructed my officers to put up the case against the syndicate member, which was subsequently submitted to the deputy minister for committal under the RR order. However, upon the advice of the AG, the syndicate member was subsequently released, unconditionally," Ramli said.

"Instead, my officers were charged with taking down false and fabricated statements that implicated the then inspector-general of police (Musa Hassan).

"That's when AG Gani Patail called the original case file, which was classified as highly confidential, and passed it to the MACC to harass the witnesses," Ramli said.

Pay tribute to fearless officers

Ramli said this in his speech on his 60th birthday - his 15th birthday celebration since he was born on Feb 29 - held at the Sime Darby Convention Centre last night.

NONEIt was attended by many well-wishers, among them former Sabah chief minister Chong Kah Kiat, deputy inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar, former Home Ministry secretary-general Aseh Che Mat and other senior police officers.

Ramli said he was thankful that the people who served under him were acquitted and discharged without their defence being called.

“There was no basis whatsoever for the prosecution to appeal. All of them have been reinstated.

“Tonight, I pay tribute to these fearless officers. All of them have been reinstated and promoted.

To IGP Ismail Omar, I say thank you for recognising that they have been victimised and for giving them back their dignity and honour. I am glad that the (police) force has not forsaken them.”

Ramli noted that Khalid had also investigated the same syndicate member and that the officers involved in that investigation were transferred out, including Khalid.
He  noted these officers were acquitted and discharged without their defence being called and were also reinstated.

His lawyer also harassed

Ramli said a month before he was charged, his lawyer and one time university mate, Rosli Dahlan, was arrested in “a most humiliating manner” by the MACC and held overnight, and charged a day before Hari Raya that same year.

ramli yusuff police aca trial 011107 rosli dahlan“They falsely accused Rosli (right) of failure to declare his assets. Their objective was to implicate him for representing me, after they found that all the sensational stories spread by them through the mainstream media about me being theRM27 million cop were nothing but blatant lies.”

The former top cop said the MACC was unhappy with Rosli because he helped us (Ramli and Johari) to prepare affidavits that were supposed to be prepared by a senior federal counsel with the Home Ministry.

“The AG (Gani) was angry with Rosli for pointing out that the refusal by the Attorney-General's Chambers to prepare these affidavits (to challenge the release of the syndicate member) amounted to an abdication of his constitutional duties under Article 145(3) of the Federal Constitution.

“Because they were out to get me, and get me good, they pursued all avenues within their powers, regardless of the consequences on innocent parties like Rosli. This unconscionable conduct alarmed me as a law enforcment officer,” Ramli said.

Having served the police force with great pride for 38 years, he said, all that came to an abrupt halt on Nov 1, 2007, when, three months shy of his retirement, he was charged
in court.

“On that fateful day, life was no longer as I knew it. Overnight, my career was destroyed, my reputation tarnished and the privileges accorded to me stripped away.

Vindicated, with God's grace

“Like living in a nightmare, I found myself being singled out as a corrupt officer and the full strength of multiple bodies in power at that period of time had their crosshairs on me.

NONE“With God's grace, I have now been vindicated of all the charges because they are nothing more than falsehood. Although there were many efforts made to condemn me in the public eye, I had decided after being a civil servant, the only way to proceed was to prove my innocence...”

Ramli said that though “the powers that be” were determined to use all possible means to see him be convicted, he was not called to make his defence on any of the five charges levelled against him.

“I am well on the way to complete exoneration. As they say, you can’t keep a good man down.  However, as of today, I am patiently awaiting one more appeal by the AG pertaining to a summons case, the most minor of the charges.

“I am, however, sad to point out that my pension and gratuity have been withheld since 2008,  as I am said to be not yet fully cleared of all charges against me. That to me explained why the AG Chambers have kept this appeal suspended to this day.”

He ended his speech by saying that he could not, and would not, allow such abuses to take place again and that he would not sit idly by letting such incidents to be repeated.

Bekas polis kanan dakwa AG perguna SPRM

NONE"Bagaimanapun selepas nasihat Peguam Negara, anggota sindiket berkenaan kemudiannya dibebaskan, tanpa syarat," kata Ramli.

Dr M letters prove ties with Israel...

Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s just-released correspondence with three Israel prime ministers proves his repeated attempts to establish ties with the Zionist regime during his tenure, PKR and PAS leaders alleged today.

The leaders pointed out that from the three letters publicly released by Putrajaya yesterday, it was clear Dr Mahathir who had initiated the correspondence for the purpose of maintaining a relationship with Israel.

“Dr Mahathir has met and has established a relationship with Israel’s prime ministers, even stressing repeatedly his intention to foster ties between Malaysia and Israel.

“This intention was made known in his letter to (former Israel PM) Yitzhak Rabin,” PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution (picture) said in a statement here.

In his letter to Yitzhak on December 21, 1993, Dr Mahathir had signed off by penning a hand-written message, saying, “I look forward to normal relations with Israel.”

Over four years later, Dr Mahathir wrote another letter to Israel PM Benjamin Netanyahu, condemning acts of aggression allegedly committed by the Israelis against the Palestinians and calling for ceasefire.

But the former prime minister had ended the letter on a friendly note, saying, “We would like to think that once we have established relations with you, it would be permanent.”

Dr Mahathir expressed the same sentiment to Israel PM Ehud Barak in June 1999 in another letter urging for peace and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

“It is my sincere hope that the attainment of a comprehensive settlement in the region would allow Malaysia to realistically envisage a positive move towards the establishment of normal relations with Israel,” he had written.

PAS’s Shah Alam Mp Khalid Samad agreed with Saifuddin that the letters, dating 1993, 1997 and 1999, had only validated the opposition’s accusations against the Barisan Nasional (BN) for being Jewish sympathisers.

“Tun (Dr Mahathir) promised to establish ties with Israel should they accord freedom to the Palestinians... so he should be the last one to comment on (PR de facto leader Datuk Seri) Anwar Ibrahim’s statement (on Israel),” he told The Malaysian Insider.

Khalid pointed out that Anwar’s recent comment in the Wall Street Journal declaring support for “all efforts to protect the security of the state of Israel” had been issued in response to a question by a reporter.

Dr Mahathir assertions on the other hand, added Khalid, were expressed in a letter he had deliberately penned to the three prime ministers, which means the latter had the intention to establish ties at the time.

“This confirms that PKR has been saying all this time. Dr Mahathir and (Prime Minister Datuk Seri) Najib (Razak) must stop their pretenses.

“PKR will continue supporting all peace efforts in the Middle East and support justice for the Palestinians,” Saifuddin said.

The Machang MP added that apart from Dr Mahathir, the now three-year-old Najib administration had continued the government’s pro-Israel stance by hiring public relations firm APCO Worldwide to shine its image.

“Among APCO’s advisers are Doron Bergerbest-Eilon, former Israeli security agency protection and safety chief,” he pointed out.

PAS vice-president Salahuddin Ayub appeared to agree with his colleagues and demanded Dr Mahathir explain his correspondence in greater detail.

“Tun has released letters that clearly shows ties between Malaysia and Israel although both nations do not share diplomatic relations,” he told The Malaysian Insider.

Dr Mahathir's letter to Yitzhak Rabin  dated 21 December 1993.

Dr Mahathir letter to Benjamin Netanyahu, Israeli Prime Minister dated 14 March 1997.

Will Mahathir propose Chua Soi Lek as UMNO President...

mahathir in perdana university event 150212Welcoming what he called “a good move” by PAS to consider appointing a non-Muslim to its top leadership, former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad sarcastically said DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang should made the Islamic party’s president.

“Why just deputy? They should have a non-Muslim as president. Lim Kit Siang can be PAS president,” sniped Mahathir at a press conference in Putrajaya today.

“They said we are
kafir for working with non-Muslims, now they want to have a non-Muslim as party leader. That’s good, good.”

Mahathir said PAS should not have any trouble accepting a non-Muslim as president, given its defence of non-Muslim Pakatan Rakyat leaders who have quoted Quranic verses in their political ceramah.

- malaysiakini

Here's YB Lim Kit Siang's reply...

It has been suggested that the response to Tun Dr. Mahathir's “tongue-in-cheek” proposal that I be made PAS President is to ask whether Mahathir would propose Datuk Seri Chua Soi Lek as UMNO President!

However, I think it is more productive to focus on Mahathir's other “tongue-in-cheek” statement that all the Tuns and “their sons and grandsons too” should all be investigated in response to my call for a full audit and accounting into the RM100 billion losses from the financial scandals during Mahathir's 22-year premiership.

Another bad news about Malaysian Airlines recording a whopping net loss of RM2.52 billion for 2011 despite round-after-round of billion-ringgit bailouts in the past two decades is a salutary reminder that the root cause why the once national premier airline is reduced to such a parlous crisis stage today must be traced to Mahathir's 1994 decision to use Bank Negara's MAS shares to bail out Bank Negara from its RM30 billion foreign exchange losses.

Malaysians today are still paying for those financial scandals, none of which have ever been fully accounted for, as for instance in the recent RM580 million write-off by the Malaysian government with the “out-of-court” settlement between Danaharta and other GLCs with Tajudin Ramli on Feb. 14 with regard to all suits pending between them.

When Mahathir said he is prepared to be investigated for the RM100 billion losses from financial scandals during his premiership provided “all the Tuns and their sons and grandsons too” are also investigated, is he just doing a Shahrizat?

Isn't he just rephrasing what the Women, Family and Community Development Minister had said: “Tell me, which UMNO leader does not have problem?” when confronted about the RM250 million National Feedlot Centre “cow condo” scandal?

Is Mahathir so confident that he will enjoy both immunity and impunity for the RM100 billion losses suffered by the country as a result of the financial scandals during his 22-year premiership as the other “Tuns and their sons and grandsons” would never agree to any full investigation, even to clear their names?

Let the Tuns from the Mahathir era, whether Tun Abdullah, Tun Musa Hitam, Tun Daim Zainuddin, Tun Ling Liong Sik or Tun Lim Keng Yaik speak up whether they are prepared to support a full audit and investigation into the RM100 billion losses suffered by the country as a result of the financial scandals in the 22-year Mahathir premiership.

It would appear that Mahathir was also referring to past Tuns and Prime Ministers when he said: “But all Tuns must be audited. The sons and grandsons of Tuns as well.”

Is Mahathir also supremely confident that the “sons and grandsons” of previous Prime Ministers, i.e. Tun Razak and Tun Hussein, would not agree to a full audit and investigation into the RM100 billion financial “blackhole” in the Mahathir era?

Let the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak and the Home Minister, Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, the leading scions of the second and third Prime Minister respectively, speak up.

Let us also hear from the Deputy Prime Minister, Tan Sri MuhyidinYasin, every Cabinet Minister and all the Barisan Nasional component parties their respective position whether they would support a full audit and investigation into the RM100 billion “blackhole” caused by the losses of the financial scandals during the 22-year Mahathir premiership.- blog.limkitsiang.com

Why NFC wants to expand market to Singapore when Singapore bans the import of raw beef from Malaysia...

Tony Pua(left) asked today why the National Feedlot Corporation (NFCorp) is looking to expand to Singapore when the island republic bans the import of raw beef from Malaysia?

The DAP publicity chief pointed out that Singapore’s Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority (AVA) only permitted processed beef such as sausages, patties, meatballs and smoked meat to be brought in.

Even then, only five companies were allowed to do so — Mac Food Sdn Bhd, Nestle Manufacturing Sdn Bhd, PAP Cashnet Sdn Bhd, Unilever Bestfoods Sdn Bhd and Lucky Food Processing Sdn Bhd.

“NFCorp has not been given any approval to export its beef or processed meat to Singapore... Is this not a clear case of putting the cart before the cows?” he said in a statement.

Pua said NFCorp must also answer claims that the RM250 million loan it was granted by Putrajaya had been used as leverage to obtain commercial bank loans used to start a supermarket venture in Singapore.

Running a supermarket was different from exporting beef, he noted, saying that the sale of beef products would do very little to increase demand for Malaysian beef in Singapore.

“If promoting beef from NFCorp is indeed the overriding objective... then Datuk Seri Mohamad Salleh either completely lacks business sense or is lying through his teeth to justify use of public funds,” he said.

NFCorp chairman Datuk Seri Mohamad Salleh Ismail told The Malaysian Insider yesterday the company intends to sell its beef products abroad as the local market was too small to support its intended output.

Salleh explained that NFCorp was now building up the market in Singapore and will do the same in Indonesia as the National Feedlot Centre (NFC) was on target to produce 78,000 tonnes of beef by 2015.

The NFC, which is supervised by NFCorp, was set up in 2007 to provide food security and attain 40 per cent self-sufficiency for beef production by 2015.

“When we have this many tonnes of beef, the Malaysian market will not buy everything so we have to find other places to sell,” Salleh said yesterday.

However, he declined to comment on his family’s alleged links to Farmhouse Supermarkets in Singapore, only stating that NFCorp would issue a statement soon to “explain in the proper context”.

PKR strategic director Rafizi Ramli, who has led opposition attacks against NFCorp, said today the company has no business expanding overseas if it cannot meet even production quotas for the local market.

The NFC only managed to produce 400 tonnes of beef annually in its first two years of operation, or only 0.8 per cent of the government’s 50,000-tonne yearly target, he claimed.

NFCorp hit the headlines after it made it into the Auditor-General’s Report last year, and has continued to hog the limelight after it was linked to federal minister Datuk Seri Shahrizat Jalil.

Salleh, a former food science head at Universiti Pertanian Malaysia (UPM), is Shahrizat’s husband. He runs the company with their three children.

PKR has made several claims of abuse over NFCorp’s federal loan involving over RM62 million spent on land, property and other expenses unrelated to cattle raising.-malaysian insider

NFC venturing into S'pore absurd...

NONEPKR strategy director Rafizi Ramli said National Feedlot Corporation (NFC) chairperson Salleh Ismail's explanation that the local market is too small hence the need to expand overseas, does not make any sense.

This is because NFC's current beef output is way behind the target set by the government, one of the criteria for awarding the RM250 million soft loan to the corporation, said Rafizi.

Comparing the output target stated in the official website of veterinary service department with NFC's current production, Rafizi found that the company's output in 2010 only met 0.8 percent of the department's target in 2009.

According to Rafizi, NFC had slaughtered 1,914 cows from 2008 to 2010, producing 400 tonnes beef annually (assuming every cow slaughtered gives 200kg of meat), but the government's target in 2009 was 50,000 tonnes.

"NFC has no right to talk about new market abroad as long as it has not met the target to supply 40 percent of domestic market, because that is the purpose of setting up NFC.

"Salleh's statement that the local market is too small for NFC output is a lie that insults the intelligence of Malaysians," said the PKR leader.

Rafizi
reiterated that he is still awaiting NFC's official statement explaining why the government loan was used to invest in overseas businesses unrelated to the purpose of the loan.

NONEYesterday Salleh, the husband of Family, Women, and Community Development Minister Shahrizat Abdul Jalil, told online news portal The Malaysian Insider that NFC was building up the market in Singapore and was eyeing Indonesia next. Read here.

He said this was necessary as the National Feedlot Centre would produce 78,000 tonnes of beef by 2015 once its abattoir becomes operational, more than what the Malaysian market needed.

"When we have this many tonnes of beef, the Malaysian market will not buy everything so we have to find other places to sell," he was quoted as saying.

However, Salleh declined to comment on Rafizi's allegation
that his family has misused the soft loan to open a premier supermarket in Singapore, only saying that NFC would issue a statement soon to "explain (the matter) in the proper context".- malaysiakini

MAS losses soar to RM2.5b...

Malaysia Airlines recorded a stunning net loss of RM2.52 billion for 2011 and the company is now in “crisis”, the national flag carrier said today. The carrier also confirmed that the losses for the 2011 financial year were the largest in its history.

The airline reported a massive net loss of RM1.28 billion in the fourth quarter, which was about as much as the first three quarters combined.

“The company is in crisis,” said Malaysia Airlines (MAS) CEO Ahmad Jauhari Yahya in a statement.

Ahmad said that the losses were due to higher expenses including a 25 per cent increase in fuel expenses and a 50 per cent increase in non-fuel expenses. The company’s cash reserves more than halved to RM1 billion at the end of last year from RM2.1 billion at the end of 2010 and net assets plunged from RM3.5 billion to RM1.1 billion.

Jauhari said that the company would now focus on executing the business turnaround plan that was announced in December.

The business turnaround plan projects the airline to improve its performance in 2012 to somewhere between breakeven and a net loss of RM165 million.

The current high cost of oil, however, could throw a spanner in the works as the turnaround plan had assumed fuel costs of US$130 per barrel and MAS said that prices for fuel had already hit US$138.The airline said that fuels costs had increased by 25 per cent last year to RM305 million.

Other major expenditure that MAS said contributed to the loss included provisions for the redelivery of aircraft (RM602 million), impairment of freighters (RM314 million) and stock obsolescence (RM179 million).

Revenue, meanwhile, was up marginally from RM13.5 billion in 2010 to RM13.9 billion in 2011.

MAS reported a net profit of RM234 million in 2010.

It noted today that it paid US$95 per barrel of oil (ex-hedging) in 2010 as compared with US$133 per barrel in 2011.

“Obviously, this was a large loss,” said Ahmad referring to the 2011 results.

He said that the outlook for 2012 was challenging with passenger and cargo segments expected to remain weak.- malaysian insider

AirAsia FY11 net profit almost halves to RM564m...

AirAsia Bhd saw its net profit in the last quarter ended Dec 31, 2011 tumble 56% to RM135.7 million from a year ago, clipped by soaring fuel cost that more than offset increased passenger numbers and higher ticket prices.

The erosion of earnings by fuel cost was widely predicted, although the quantum of decline was worst than what most analysts had expected.

AirAsia said it spent RM475 million on fuel during the fourth quarter, compared with RM292 million a year ago. Analysts said fuel cost accounts for about 50% of the budget airline's operating costs.

MIDF Research, which had expected AirAsia to make RM638 million in net profit for 2011, warned clients last week that the airline may disappoint as it continues to struggle with high fuel cost.

AirAsia told Bursa Malaysia today its FY11 net profit almost halved to RM564.15 million, or 20.3 sen a share, from RM1.06 billion in FY10.

Revenue stood at RM4.47 billion, up from RM3.95 billion the previous year.-theSun daily

Proton posts 3Q net loss of RM88.2m

Proton Holdings Bhd posted heavier net losses of RM88.20 million in the third quarter ended Dec 31, 2011 compared with the net loss of RM60.10 million a year ago due to a decline in year-end sales. It said on Wednesday that total sales volume was lower when compared to the immediate preceding quarter due to the expected slowdown in buying trend as customers opted to wait until after the new year to purchase a new vehicle in order to capitalise on better future resale value.

“Customer demand over the period also showed an unfavourable volume mix of Proton models, which further affected the profit margin. Consequently, the lower sales volume also resulted in the group having had to adjust production numbers to better manage cost,” it said.

Proton said its 3Q revenue was lower at RM1.432 billion compared with RM1.833 billion a year ago. Loss per share was 16.10 sen compared with loss per share of 10.90 sen a year ago.

For the nine-month period, its registered net loss of RM68.09 million compared with net profit of RM90.50 million a year ago. Its revenue was lower at RM5.928 billion compared with RM6.363 billion a year ago.

Proton group chairman Datuk Seri Mohd Nadzmi Mohd Salleh said the lower profit was largely due to lower revenue from domestic sales.- theEdge
