"Thousands of Penangites were caught in a massive evening jam when the Penang Bridge was closed for more than two hours after police received a call that there was a bomb on the bridge. Many motorists heading towards the bridge after work were caught unaware and found themselves in a traffic bottleneck at the Bayan Lepas coastal road leading to the bridge on the island and Seberang Jaya on the mainland. The bridge was closed to traffic at 4.30pm and only reopened at 7pm". - the STAR,5th Mac 2007.
I left Penang Road at 4.45 pm,trying to beat the 5.00 pm jam on Penang bridge yesterday, but to my suprise there was a long Q almost more then 2 kilometers along the Jelutong Expressway heading towards the bridge. To me a jam of this nature is quite common knowing the attitude of our roadusers. Car or motorbike accidents are very common and when it happens.....jam gila2 punya. Once I was caught in a jam right in the middle of the bridge for almost 2 solid hours, that was when a container lorry overturned on the bridge. Before there were no barrier placed in the middle between the dual carriageway and when there's an accident a jam usually occurs on both side, one due to the accident, while the other one due to those busybody drivers who slows down to see whats happening.
This time, the jam occured due to some naughty guys playing their April Fool prank placing steel pipes that was suppose to containe explosives.Though messages were placed on air but it was too late for me,as I was already in the middle of the jam along the Jelutong Expressway. I wonder what are these guys really up to, and making innocent motorist suffer? However, the bomb threat was only a hoax.
Anyway,I manage to cross the bridge around 7.45pm and was late for my appointment by almost 4 hours. Sometimes when come to think about it,how I wish that the 2nd link be completed soon, but, a dream is only a dream for this project will be part of an election strategy in the offering.
