Anwar diserang semasa berucap di Alor Setar oleh anggota2 Perkasa...

 

Selepas bas jelajahnya disabotaj Jumaat lalu, Ketua Pembangkang Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim sekali lagi menjadi mangsa apabila didakwa diserang semasa berucap di Alor Setar sebentar tadi.

Menurut twit pemimpin PKR, sekumpulan yang didakwa anggota kumpulan pendesak Melayu PERKASA mengganggu acara di Masjid Pumpong dekat ibu negeri di Utara Semenanjung itu.

Anggota Parlimen Kuantan Fuziah Salleh hampir jam sembilan tadi menulis di Twitter dengan mendakwa insiden itu berlaku ketika Anwar memberi tazkirah di masjid.

Sementara itu, Naib Presiden PKR N Surendran pula mendakwa kumpulan itu cuba melempat batu ketika acara itu.

"Anwar kini selamat di rumah Imam selepas serangan PERKASA," dakwa Surendran.- malaysiakini

Sekumpulan samseng yang dipercayai ahli Perkasa hari ini bertindak ganas dengan menyerang Ketua Pembangkang, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim ketika menyampaikan tazkirah Maghrib di sebuah masjid di Seberang Pumpong, Alor Star, Kedah.

Menurut laporan Keadilandaily, tindakan biadap itu tercetus apabila beberapa pemuda berhimpun dan memulakan provokasi ketika Anwar hendak menyampaikan tazkirah di dalam masjid Al Husin.

Mereka juga bertindak memadamkan lampu masjid dan alat pembesar suara berulangkali, memaksa Anwar menggunakan loud hailer untuk meneruskan kuliahnya.
 
Kumpulan terbabit juga mengeluarkan kata-kata kesat dan membaling kasut ke dalam masjid ketika tazkirah disampaikan. Malah, mereka turut menggunakan pembesar suara dan membunyikan siren ketika Anwar menyampaikan tazkirah.

Ketua kumpulan itu yang hanya dikenali sebagai Dato Yusof dikatakan mengugut bertindak lebih keras sekiranya Anwar tidak menghentikan kuliahnya serta-merta.
 
Bagaimanapun, Anwar menegaskan tiada apa yang perlu ditakutkan menyebabkan jemaah masjid terus mendengar kuliah beliau.

Naib Presiden Pas, Datuk Mahfuz Omar yang berada di masjid itu turut menjadi sasaran apabila kasut yang dibaling hampir-hampir mengenai beliau.

Kejadian serangan terhadap ketua pembangkang ini adalah insiden kedua selepas bas jelajah Merdeka Rakyat dibaling batu dan disimbah cat merah di Kelantan, semalam.-harakahdaily

Anwar attacked in Alor Setar & talk disrupted by Perkasa..

After getting off to a rocky start on Friday with his bus being attacked, opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim has reportedly been attacked during a talk at a mosque in Alor Setar, Kedah.

According to a flurry of tweets from PKR leaders, a group they believe to be right wing Malay rights group Perkasa members disrupted the event at Masjid Pumpong in the northern state capital.

“I just received information that Anwar Ibrahim has been attacked by Perkasa members at a tazkirah event…,” tweeted Kuantan MP Fuziah Salleh at around 8.50pm today.

“Perkasa member trying to storm the masjid to stop Anwar from tazkirah,” tweeted vice president Tian Chua.

“Perkasa (members) threw a show into the mosque. Is that the culture that Umno supports?” tweeted Fuziah again shortly after.

“Anwar now safe at Imam's house after the Perkasa assault,” reported vice-president N Surendran.

The incident is the second in three days to plague the opposition leader's nationwide tour.

Yesterday, Anwar’s Jelajah Merdeka Rakyat bus was splashed with red paint and damaged while on its Kelantan leg.

 

'Attackers wore Perkasa tees'

When contacted, Surendran, who witnessed the entire incident, said that the fracas started at about 7.45pm during the maghrib prayers in Bakar Baka.

As Anwar was about to give his speech after the prayers, a group of Perkasa members - about 100 - arrived outside the mosque.

Surendran said he recognised them as they were wearing the organisation's T-shirts, which was black and bore the Perkasa logo.

Surendran was at that time waiting outside the mosque and “witnessed everything".

"They came to create chaos. They shouted for Anwar to leave and they screamed obscenities," he told Malaysiakini.

"The fracas went on for about an hour. The police, who was contacted did not come until an hour later at about 8.45pm,"he added.
 
Surendran said that after his short speech, Anwar was taken to the imam's house behind the mosque to rest.

Even as was leaving, the group was still at the premises, shouting at him to leave and get out, said Surendran.

'Cops just watched'

Surendran added that the police merely stood watch and did not stop the Perkasa members from their “aggressive and noisy" behaviour.

He said it was very clear that the Perkasa members were out to create chaos.


He added that they tried to intimidate Anwar and the mosque congregation by "kicking, shouting, banging the mosque door which was closed at the time, and also threw a shoe inside the area through the window."

"At one juncture, they dragged Anwar's bodyguard, who was standing outside, and kept him aside while they banged the door," he said.

Surendran was at the time accompanied by PKR legal bureau chief Latheefa Koya, Kuala Kedah MP Ahmad Kassim, and PAS vice chief Mahfuz Omar.

The party members are expected to lodge a police report on the incident soon.

The PKR leaders’ accounts were corroborated by a pro-Umno blog The Unspinners, that also reported the incident this evening, confirming that the perpetrators were from a group called ‘Gerak Khas Perkasa'.

Thugs disrupt Anwar's speech, hurl shoes in Alor Setar mosque...

A group of youths believed to be linked to UMNO's right wing offshoot Perkasa turned up at a mosque in Seberang Pumpong, Alor Setar, where opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim was delivering a speech.

Anwar who arrived at the mosque as part of his 'Jelajah Merdeka Rakyat' bus tour in Kedah, was delivering the customary tazkirah (short religious lecture) after the Maghrib prayer, when several youths (circled in pic above) emerged and began shouting abuses.

PKR's online organ Keadilandaily reported that the group later turned violent by throwing their footwear into the mosque and switching off electricity.

Despite the blackout, Anwar continued his speech with a loudhailer, said the report, which also identified the leader of the troublemakers as one "Dato Yusof".

Also present at the programme was PAS vice president Mahfuz Omar, who is also Pokok Sena member of parliament.

The attack on Anwar is the second since he left in the specially designed double-decker bus, where he stopped at several towns to meet the locals in Pahang, Kelantan, Perak, Kedah and Perlis.

In Kota Bharu, vandals threw red paint at the bus, in an act descibed by Kelantan Menteri Besar Tuan Guru Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat as "disgraceful" to people of Kelantan.- harakahdaily

While 'Janji Demokrasi' is the real Merdeka event, Selangor denies snubbing Sultan...

The occasion could not have been better chosen or timed: The eve of the country's 55th Merdeka anniversary, two hours before countdown.

The venue could not have been more appropriate: Dataran Merdeka, where the countdown to Merdeka is held every year to commemorate the very first countdown to independence in 1957.

The theme could not have been more telling: ‘Janji Demokrasi', a response to the government's Merdeka theme, ‘Janji Ditepati'. Sasterawan Negara (National Laureate) A Samad Said (centre) to read his impassioned poem with its powerful ending:

Kita laungkan jerit senyaringnya: "Janji Demokrasi!" sehinggalah janji itu turut menjeritnya sendiri!

(We cry with all our hearts: "The promise of democracy!"
until the promise itself joins in and cries out together with us!)

Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein predicted few people would turn up. But he was wrong. 

They came by the thousands - some counted tens of thousands - dressed in yellow, as requested by the organisers.

They came to show their disapproval of the government's hijack of this year's celebrations by imposing the theme ‘Janji Ditepati' (Promises Fulfilled), which is actually the ruling party's election campaign slogan. They came to remind the government that it had indeed not fulfilled its promises - above all, the promise of clean and fair elections.

A demonstration like this would have come in the past from the opposition, but the amazing thing about this one is that it came from the rakyat. The rakyat came to Dataran Merdeka - people of all races, dressed in yellow, in fraternity, united in a common cause.

When this comes from the rakyat, not opposition politicians, the ruling party must needs tremble.

The rakyat even defied the police ban on the gathering. Hours before the event, the police tried to frighten people away by declaring the gathering illegal. But the people didn't care. Their disregard was a clear sign that the system is falling apart. When the people don't respect the law enforcers as well as the policy-makers, the end for the latter has to be near.

These were people who came of their own accord, braving the possibility of arrest. Very different from many of those who would be attending the official Merdeka Day celebrations the next night at the Bukit Jalil Stadium, the extravaganza organised by the government to display its might.

Of those who attended the Bukit Jalil event, ‘Himpunan Merdeka', an insider tells me, "at least 50 percent were instructed to attend. We were given RM60 for meal expenses, free travel on the LRT. 

Those who brought their family got an additional RM50. Free rides on chartered buses were provided."

About 100,000 people reportedly showed up, but there must have been many who were lured by the live performances of famous local artistes, the fireworks display and the lucky draw. The prizes included a Proton Prevé, a Chevrolet Cruze, air tickets to London and Sydney, motorcycles, bicycles, etc.

Striking differences

The comparison of the participants at the Janji Demokrasi gathering and those at Himpunan Merdeka is striking. The former were not promised any incentives. The only incentive for them was expressing their disaffection for the government, sending the ruling party the message that it cannot hijack Merdeka for its own selfish purpose: Merdeka belongs to the people, not to BN.

That they managed to do so, in defiance of the police, on such a significant national occasion must be devastating for the government.

Going by this, if BN were to retain Putrajaya at the next general election, it will not have an easy time governing for another five years. It will likely face consistent resistance from a recalcitrant rakyat. Would it be facetious then to suggest that it capitulate now? Indeed, some people have already been calling this year's Merdeka celebrations "Umno-BN's farewell bash".

However, BN's leaders continue to strive to maintain that they are right.

Prime Minister Najib Razak, in defending the use of ‘Janji Ditepati' as the Merdeka theme, says there is no reason for anyone to dispute it "unless a person is not used to keeping promises". He says everyone should fulfil their promises, including ordinary people. "If the people want the country to be peaceful, stable and more prosperous, the people must promise to contribute to peace and prosperity."

The reasoning sounds weird and warped. Mainly because the logic of putting the onus on the people to ensure peace and stability is strained and contrived. 

Usually, that duty is assigned to the government. But what is more telling is Najib's evasion of the all-important point - that ‘Janji Ditepati' is also BN's campaign slogan for the upcoming general election. That is the point of contention that he should have addressed.

In his speech at Himpunan Merdeka, Najib responded to the Janji Demokrasi gathering by saying that it involved only the minority whereas the gathering at Bukit Jalil involved the majority.
Again, he overlooked the key considerations.

First, many people were compelled to attend Himpunan Merdeka - among them civil servants and staff of some statutory bodies.

Second, many of the people of his so-called "majority" are those still zombified by the massive doses of government propaganda they are fed every day through the mainstream press and television, and have therefore not awakened to the government's chicanery.

Third, if there had been no banning of the Janji Demokrasi gathering and the threat of possible arrest, many more people might have gone for it. Plus, many who did not show up nonetheless support it in their hearts. On social media that night, many said they wished they had gone, and many more cheered the success of the turnout.

Fourth, those who did come for the Janji Demokrasi gathering were not attracted by incentives, like payments, free transport and lucky draws. Their reason for coming was sincere and genuine.

Sore losers
 
It speaks poorly of the nation's prime minister that he used the Merdeka Day celebrations to lash out at Janji Demokrasi.

Not only that, he also demonised the opposition by accusing them of trying to bring chaos to the nation. Merdeka Day is supposed to be a day of national harmony and reconciliation. Desperate though Najib may be to win the next general election, he should still have shown respect for the occasion. Instead, he hijacked the event and used it as his election platform.

How then can it not be said that the Janji Demokrasi gathering was totally justified?

By the way, the gathering was peaceful, and Dang Wangi district police chief ACP Zainuddin Ahmad admitted that no untoward incidents were reported. Yet even so, he added, "We'll investigate later (for any violations)." What's there to investigate if there were no untoward incidents?

He also said they would investigate Samad for reading a poem. Since when has reading a poem become an offence? Don't the police have more important things to do - like going after criminals instead?

It's time the police realised that people power is on the rise and adjusted to the new paradigm - or they will look stupid playing their outdated games. It does not do them well to take their cue from their boss at the Home Ministry, Hishammuddin Hussein, who in commending them for maintaining security at the Janji Demokrasi gathering said: "We see that the event, which was aimed at creating chaos, failed ..."

His statement was outright unfair - and downright stupid. He also sounded like a sore loser. But then, if you have seen how gamblers behave when their chips are down, you will understand why he said it.- kee thuan chye, malaysiakini

Himpunan Janji Demokrasi adalah acara Merdeka sebenar...

Himpunan Janji Demokrasi terus berjaya walaupun diugut dengan berbagai ancaman supaya rakyat jangan menyertainya, kata AJK PAS Pusat, Idris Ahmad.

Katanya, puluhan ribu rakyat daripada berbagai latar belakang bangsa dan agama berhimpun dengan satu tekad supaya demokrasi dipulihkan, pilihanraya adil mesti dilaksanakan.

“Kehadiran tanpa diupah dengan wang dan tarian K-Pop. Datang dengan tekad untuk melihat perubahan politik di negara ini.

“Alhamdulillah himpunan berjalan dengan aman dan harmoni,” ujarnya dalam satu kenyataan.

Ini, ujarnya satu lagi bukti tanpa provokasi dan gangguan polis maka seramai mana pun yang hadir ia akan terkawal.

Beliau berkata, sudah ada tiga himpunan aman yang besar berjalan dengan damai, Bersih 1.0 pada 10 Nov 2007, Himpunan Oren (14 Julai 2012) dan Himpunan Janji Demokrasi (30 Ogos 2012).

Tambahnya, hampir 80 peratus yang hadir ialah anak muda dan ia gambaran yang menakutkan kepada Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak untuk mengadakan PRU13.

“Jika dilihat daripada kehadiran pada malam tadi pemetaan politik Malaysia akan berubah insya Allah merupakan pra akan tumbang BN di dalam PRU akan datang.

“Reformarsi ini lebih hebat daripada tahun 1998, kerana penyertaan yang menyeluruh daripada berbagai bangsa, sedangkan sebelumnya hanya dari kalangan orang Melayu sahaja,” katanya lagi.

Jika dahulu, kata beliau kebangkitan rakyat kerana marah kepada individu yang bernama Dr Mahathir, sedangkan sekarang kemarahan kepada sistem yang tidak adil dan dasar-dasar yang tidak menguntungkan rakyat.

Menurutnya, rakyat hanya menunggu masa untuk buat perubahan dan bila-bila masa mereka sudah bersedia untuk mendapat kerajaan baru.

Tetapi Najib terlupa atau sengaja lupa bahawa kerajaan Pusat UMNO/BN lansung tidak menjemput DYMM Seri Padu baginda Yang Dipertuan Agong ke di countdown Merdeka di Stadium Merdeka kelmarin dan di Majlis Sambutan Merdeka di Stadium Bukit Jalil semalam.

Najib kata takkan Anwar lebih besar dari Sultan?


Pencacai nampaknya naik gila apabila kerajaan Selangor menjemput Anwar di malam sambutan merdeka. Katanya Anwar tak ada locus standi.

Perkasa membuat laporan polis. Setiausaha Sulit Sultan Selangor, Datuk Mohamad Munir Bani mengulas tentang itu. Adakah Sultan Selangor berkata begitu atau dia yang melebih-lebih mengulas begitu.

“Kebiasaannya kalau Tuanku tidak dapat hadir dalam program rasmi negeri, Menteri Besar akan menggantikan baginda untuk memberi ucapan,” katanya dan menambah, “tetapi mengapa Anwar yang dijemput, ini program rasmi, bukan politik.”

Najib jadi bodoh dengan perkara ini, patutlah diberak orang.

“Soal tidak hormat Sultan Selangor bukan mengejutkan kita … mereka lebih hormat penasihat ekonomi yang tidak ada locus standi,”kata Najib.

“Baginda adalah simbol kepada negeri yang perlu kita hormati,” kata Najib lagi.

Kita nak bertanya Najib, mana dia agung di malam sambutan merdeka yang Najib buat? 

Yang kelihatan Najib, suami Najib Rosmah, Muhyiddin Yassin. Agung di mana??? Bukankah Agung juga simbol kepada negara yang perlu kita hormati.

Semasa kat Bukit Jalil kelihatan disebelah Najib ialah seorang perempuan bernama Rosmah. 

Belum pernah berlaku sebelum ini di dalam sejarah di mana isteri PM disediakan tempat khas di pentas seolah-olah beliau salah seorang menteri kanan kabinet sehingga menenggelamkan wajah-wajah menteri kabinet yang lain.

DYMM Agong dan tempat Agong tidak kelihatan. Apakah ini bererti Najib atau Rosmah lebih besar dari Yang Dipertuan Agong?

Selangor nafi belakangkan Sultan, amalan biasa tidak jemput hadiri ambang Merdeka...

Kerajaan Pakatan Rakyat (PR) Selangor hari ini menafikan mereka sengaja membelakangi sultan kerana tidak menjemput baginda dalam majlis sambutan ambang Kemerdekaan ke-55 di Dataran Shah Alam pada malam Khamis lalu.

Sebaliknya, kerajaan negeri itu menjelaskan adalah sudah menjadi tradisi dan amalan negeri berkenaan tidak menjemput Sultan Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah untuk menghadiri majlis sambutan ambang Kemerdekaan negeri.

Menurut Setiausaha Politik Menteri Besar Selangor, Faekah Husin (gambar), amalan berkenaan bukan baru dilaksanakan ketika pemerintahan PR, tetapi turut dipraktikkan sejak zaman pemerintahan Barisan Nasional (BN) di negeri terkaya itu sebelum tewas dalam pilihan raya umum 2008 kepada PR.

"Memang menjadi tradisi sejak empat tahun lepas Tuanku Sultan tidak dijemput dan hadir untuk program sambutan ambang Kemerdekaan.

"Baginda hanya dijemput berangkat ke majlis Yasin dan Tahlil di masjid negeri, Masjid Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah," katanya ketika dihubungi The Malaysian Insider.

Jelas Faekah, beliau yakin Seketariat Sambutan Ambang Kemerdekaan yang dipengerusikan Datuk Khusrin Munawi selaku Ketua Setiausaha Negeri (SUK) telah meneliti senarai jemputan dan protokol sambutan berkenaan sebelum program itu dilaksanakan.

"Kita percaya Datuk Khusrin telah melihat senarai protokol yang dijemput tahun-tahun lepas termasuk sambutan ketika zaman pemerintahan BN.

"Tapi sekiranya pada tahun ini baginda berniat untuk mencemar duli turun ke sambutan ambang merdeka, Setiausaha Sulit baginda Datuk Mohamad Munir Bani perlu memaklumkan kepada kami, tapi tiada sebarang makluman berkenaan perkara itu daripada beliau," jelas Faekah lagi.

Malah, beliau turut meluahkan rasa kesal terhadap kenyataan Munir di media yang menunjukkan seolah-olah kerajaan PR Selangor cuba membelakangkan sultan.

"Datuk Khusrin sendiri telah beri jaminan Datuk Munir akan memberi penjelasan, tapi saya tidak faham kenapa kenyataannya dalam media amat berlainan.

"Bila berkaitan dengan sultan dan istana, kerajaan negeri amat berhati-hati," katanya kepada The Malaysian Insider.

Malah, melalui khidmat pesanan ringkas Khusrin kepada Faekah, beliau berkata maklum berkenaan perkara itu yang menjadi isu dan akan menuntut Munir untuk memberi penjelasan semula.

"Saya maklum. Utusan sengaja nak buat isu. Selama ini memang Tuanku tak pernah dijemput dalam program  malam kemerdekaan kecuali majlis baca yasin . Saya minta Dato munir untuk beri penjelasan semula," kata khidmat pesanan ringkas tersebut yang dihantar Khusrin kepada Faekah.

Awal hari ini, memetik laporan Sinar Harian, Sultan Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, mempesoalkan tindakan kerajaan Pakatan Rakyat (PR) Selangor menjemput Ketua Pembangkang Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim sebagai tetamu kehormat sewaktu Sambutan Kemerdekaan ke-55 peringkat negeri malam Khamis lalu.

Munir berkata tindakan oleh PR Selangor itu menimbulkan tanda tanya kerana Anwar tidak menjawat sebarang kedudukan tertinggi di peringkat negeri, sebaliknya hanya bertindak selaku Penasihat Ekonomi negeri.

"Tuanku Sultan melahirkan rasa pelik mengapa Anwar yang tidak berada dalam jawatan tertinggi negeri menjadi tetamu kehormat. Beliau tidak memegang sebarang portfolio rasmi kecuali sebagai Penasihat Ekonomi.

"Kebiasaannya kalau Tuanku tidak dapat hadir dalam program rasmi negeri, Menteri Besar akan menggantikan baginda untuk memberi ucapan," katanya dan menambah, "tetapi mengapa Anwar yang dijemput, ini program rasmi, bukan politik."

Malah, Perdana Menteri Datuk Seri Najib Razak semalam turut menegaskan, tindakan kerajaan PR Selangor itu yang tidak menjemput Sultan ketika sambutan ambang Kemerdekaan di Dataran Shah Alam  bukanlah satu tindakan yang mengejutkan.

Sebaliknya, beliau berkata kerajaan negeri itu juga lebih menghormati Anwar yang tidak mempunyai "locus standi" berbanding Sultan Selangor.

"Soal tidak hormat Sultan Selangor bukan mengejutkan kita ... mereka lebih hormat penasihat ekonomi yang tidak ada locus standi," tegas Pengerusi Barisan Nasional (BN) itu ketika Majlis Rumah Terbuka BN Selangor semalam.

Faekah turut berkata, pihaknya yakin Sultan Selangor akan melihat perkara itu dengan teliti dan dalam ruang lingkup yang lebih luas.

"Saya percaya tuanku akan melihat ini dengan lebih luas.

"Tiada siapa mahu ketepikan Sultan, apa lagi kalau baginda sendiri berniat ingin mencemar duli turut hadir malam ambang merdeka," katanya dan menambah "tetapi jika benar begitu, hasrat itu bagaimanapun tidak sampai kepada kita."

"Jika ianya dimaklumkan, saya yakin sambutan ambang kemerdekaan pada malam itu  akan menjadi lebih meriah dengan kehadiran baginda," katanya lagi.- malaysian insider

Ketua Umum PKR, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, akan meneruskan program Jelajah Merdeka walaupun bas yang dinaikinya telah diserang manakala Menteri Besar Kelantan kesal ianya berlaku di negeri itu.

Ketika memberitahu Harakahdaily, beliau berkata peringkat permulaan laporan polis dibuat, kemudian program jelajah itu akan diteruskan mengikut jadual.

Beliau berkata demikian ketika ditemui sewaktu meninjau bas yang dinaikinya yang telah disimbah cat dan dilontar dengan benda keras pagi tadi.

Bas berkenaan masih berada di bandar Kota Bharu, berhampiran Masjid Al-Baroah dan Pasar Siti Khadijah.

Beliau memberitahu lagi, perkara itu telah menjadi biasa baginya memandangkan pernah diserang sebelum ini dengan kereta yang dinaiki.

“Saya dah biasa kena serang sebelum ni dibaling batu.

“Saya tidak  akan patah semangat dengan kejadian ini dan program jelajah merdeka ini akan diteruskan selepas ni ke Grik, Perak pulak,”ujarnya.

Sementara itu,  Menteri Besar Kelantan,Tuan Guru Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat ketika meninjau perkembangan bas melahirkan rasa kesal terhadap kejadian itu.

Tuan Guru pula berkata kejadian itu berlaku berpunca dari manusia yang hilang fikiran sehingga ‘memuja’ nafsu.

Menurutnya, nafsu pada manusia ini ada dua, ada buruk dan taqwa.

“Tetapi bila manusia memilih ajaran secular berbanding Islam, perkara sedemikian pasti akan berlaku.

“Bagaimanapun, pejuang ulama terutama para Nabi telah mendahului kita menerima ujian ini,”ujarnya.

Beliau bagaimanapun tidak menafikan perasaan ‘malu’ dan kecewa memandangkan perkara itu berlaku di Kelantan.

Tambahnya, sedangkan pertelingkahan antara PAS dan Umno telah lama reda berikutan kedua pihak tidak menghianati antara satu sama lain.

Bas Merdeka Rakyat disimbah cat, dilontar batu

PKR's Jelajah Merdeka Rakyat which kicked off yesterday was marred when its double-decker campaign bus had its windscreen smashed and splashed with bright red paint during a pit stop at Kota Baru.

The incident occurred at about 4.20am, said PKR deputy president Azmin Ali at a press conference this morning in Kuala Lumpur.

"The bus arrived in Kota Baru at around 1.30am from Tanah Merah and was parked at Siti Khadijah market in preparation for a meet-and-greet programme later in the morning.

"The bus' driver and his assistant decided to sleep on the top floor of the bus, but at around 4.20am they were woken up by a loud noise.

"An inspection found that the bus front and side mirrors had been smashed. The windscreen was also splashed with red paint," he said.

The incident, Azmin said, appeared to be a planned attempt at disrupting PKR's campaign blitz as cement blocks were hurled at the driver's side of the windscreen, on top of red paint being splashed onto it, to prevent the bus from continuing its journey.

Kelantan is the party's second stop in its three-day programme across the Malay heartland.

Earlier yesterday, PKR supremo Anwar Ibrahim, accompanied by his wife and PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, made their first stop in Bentong where 300 people welcomed the convoy.

Also present at the event were party communications director Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad and director of strategy Rafizi Ramli.

The Jelajah Merdeka Rakyat campaign seeks to visit five states in three days - Pahang, Kelantan, Perak, Kedah and Perlis - and take part in 20 official programmes at multiple locations.

Prior to the attack, the bus had made stops at Kuala Lipis, Gua Musang and Tanah Merah, in addition to Bentong.

A police report of the attack was lodged at Kota Baru police station at 5.14am (photo above).

'Gangsters are king' 

In a Facebook entry, Anwar had decried that "samseng bermaharajalela" (gangsters are king).

Despite the incident, Azmin said the bus would continue on the campaign trail as soon as it is released from the Kota Baru police station.

He refused to speculate who the perpetrators were but noted that this was part of the growing political violence targeted at Pakatan Rakyat in recent months.

Azmin took aim at Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak for failing to condemn previous attacks, which has resulted in further violence, including today's incident.

"Indirectly, consent is given to a culture of gangsterism. This culture never existed under the tenure of former premiers Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Abdullah Ahmad Badawi but it is happening under Najib's watch. It appears that the gangsters are being given protection," he lamented.

Azmin also took to task Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein for the police failure in taking action against past violence.


"Even though several police reports had been lodged, to date, not a single person has faced justice...

"I am confident that this time Najib will also not respond and the police's investigation will bear no real action against these gangsters," he said.

Bus to continue with damaged windcreen

In February this year, Anwar's vehicle was attacked in Sembrong, Johor, and its window smashed and a week after that, an alleged BN supporter had attempted to lunge at Lembah Pantai MP Nurul Izzah Anwar.

Nurul Izzah's event again was hit with violence in May when one of her supporters suffered a bloody head from projectiles hurled at her ceramah in Kuala Lumpur. A week before that, a similar incident occurred in Malacca at an event for Bersih co-chairperson Ambiga Sreenevasan.

After the press conference, Rafizi confirmed that the bus had been released from custody and will continue its trip to Perak with its shattered windscreen as it would take a week to get a replacement windscreen.

"The driver will need to drive slowly. We have only missed one stop at Jeli, the bus will head to Gerik in Perak where the campaign will continue," he said.

After Perak, the campaign will hit the trail in Perlis before concluding in Kedah on Sunday.

Rafizi noted that the bus had yet to receive approval from Road Transport Department (JPJ) to ferry passengers and as such, Pakatan leaders had to accompany the bus with their own vehicles.

"JPJ is delaying it but we're hoping to get the permit for passengers soon," he said, adding that the bus serves as a ceramah stage at various stops during the three-day tour.

He added that in light of the incident, PKR will speed up the launch of its second vehicle by this month - a campaign trailer.- malaysiakini

Najib semalam kelihatan ceria bila Rais Yatim mengumumkan sebanyak 3,611,323 juta tweet dicatat dalam masa sejam kepada akaun perdana menteri, @NajibRazak seluruh negara yang mengandungi pelbagai mesej kemerdekaan.

Firma kajian Twitter Politweet.org mempertikai rekod 3,611,323 tweet patriotik kepada perdana menteri sempena sambutan Merdeka seperti yang diumumkan kerajaan pada malam tadi.

Firma itu berkata, sebanyak 38 peratus daripada tulisan dengan label hashtag #Merdeka55 di Twitter itu mungkin dihasilkan oleh bot – perisian yang mengawal sejumlah akaun Twitter yang berlainan.Kajian itu berdasarkan sampel daripada sebanyak 107,000 tweet yang dikumpul daripada 19,000 pengguna dalam tempoh berkenaan.

Firma itu mendapati, sebanyak 38 peratus daripada tweet berkenaan dihasilkan daripada 14 peratus pengguna yang kesemuanya menggunakan perisian TweetDeck.

TweetDeck merupakan perisian sokongan kepada pengguna Twitter yang membolehkan seseorang mentadbir pelbagai akaun dalam satu masa.

"Ia bermakna 41,000 tweet (diterima) daripada 2,761 pengguna," kata Politweet.org dalam satu tulisan di Facebook hari ini.

Dalam kenyataan tersebut, firma itu berkata mereka juga mengesyaki bahawa jumlah pengguna terbabit merupakan penghantar spam yang dimaksudkannya.

Laporan Bernama pada malam tadi menyebut, jumlah 3,611,323 juta tweet dalam tempoh sejam itu mencatat rekod dalam Malaysia Book of Records dalam kategori tweet terbanyak dan juga perhimpunan tweet terbesar - Malaysiakini

Yang menjadikan Rais mudah ditipu dalam hal ini ialah kerana beliau bukanlah membesar di era IT ini.. jadi apa yang dia tahu pasal IT agaknya?

Phantoms hit Twitterjaya #Merdeka55 tweet-up...

While Putrajaya has been accused on numerous occasions of allegedly deploying phantom voters in the general elections, the trend appeared to have caught up with Twitterjaya during the #Merdeka55 tweet-up last night.

In conjunction with the Merdeka celebration at Bukit Jalil Stadium yesterday, Information, Communications and Culture Minister Rais Yatim (left) had aimed for a million tweets within an hour to Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak using the hashtag #Merdeka55 on Twitter.

The target was shattered as national news agency Bernama reported a total of 3,611,323 tweets containing patriotic messages accompanied by the hastag #Merdeka55 were tweeted to the premier.

However, Twitter research firm Politweet.org found that 38 percent of the tweets were potentially questionable as they may have come from bots - software which controls multiple Twitter accounts.

This was based on a sample of about 107,000 tweets it collected from some 19,000 users within the same time-frame.

Of this, 38 percent of the tweets came from 14 percent of the said users, all of which had used TweetDeck.

"That's 41,000 tweets from 2,761 users. These were the likely spammers," Politweet.org said in a Facebook posting in its preliminary analysis of the tweet-up.

A flurry of spam tweets 

TweetDeck is a supporting platform for Twitter, allowing a user to manage multiple accounts at any one time.

Nonetheless, it should be noted that the analysis included all #Merdeka55 tweets including to other politicians and not exclusively to Najib.

Producing a screenshot of 15 users tweeting identical messages to the premier, Politweet.org said there was a noticeable use of bots tweeting the exact same tweet at precisely the same time.

Another bizzare example, it said, was 63 users tweeting identical messages with the hashtag #Merdeka55 that they were eating curry mee at Queensbay Mall while listening to patriotic songs.

It read: "Eating mee curry in Queensbay at the food court and "Keranamu Malaysia" song being played. So #Merdeka55 mood! @NajibRazak"

Despite the red flag, Najib's twitter account had unwittingly re-tweeted (re-posted) some of the identical messages from the suspected bot users.

An example was the premier re-tweeting the identical message "Sambutan Ulang Tahun #Merdeka55 Terbaik!" (#Merdeka55 anniversary celebration is the best) from users Mansor Nor, Nadaraja and Tan Chor Khai in succession.

All three users appeared to have only began tweeting yesterday. 

Bot army after Twitter politicians

Avid politicians on Twitter, too, were spammed with an avalanche of identical #Merdeka55 messages.

Bukit Lanjan state assemblyperson Elizabeth Wong uploaded a picture on Twitter showing several users tweeting at her with the message: "Jom ucap Selamat Hari #Merdeka55 to DS @Najib Razak" (Lets wish #Merdeka55 day to Najib Razak) concurrently.

"Spammed by bots earlier, same message, same time by 30 accounts. Some same (profile) picture. 3 million (tweets) cited (is) doubtful," she said in a Twitter posting.

A check on the Twitter accounts allegedly controlled by bots revealed that they had mass-posted the identical #Merdeka55 message to a laundry list of Pakatan Rakyat politicians on Twitter.

An example was an account by the name of @Rusli_Katmin which had a total of 44 tweets, 39 of which were only posted last night.

While the total tweet record may have been tainted by 'phantom tweeters', Politweet.org did not dispute the total figure cited by the government.

This, it said, is based on a benchmark against the recently concluded US Republican convention which garnered some four million tweets at a rate 3,306 tweets per minute.

"#Merdeka55 peaked at 2052 tweets per minute. So if 3,306 tweets per minute gave four million tweets, it is believable that 2052 tweets per minute gave 3.6 million tweets," it said.

'A million possible without bots'


In an immediate reaction to the analysis, some Twitter users expressed disappointment at the possible use of bots despite the realistic target with the country's large social media user base while others poked fun at the allegation.

"I seriously believe we could have achieved one million genuine Merdeka tweets without the tweetbots. Such a pity. Who's idea was it?" said Twitter user Aisehman.

Another user nicknamed Dinesweri said: "Is there any part-time tweet bot job available? Heard that the job offers a high pay."

Kedah Gerakan Youth chief Tan Keng Liang who has close to 30,000 Twitter followers, however, dismissed the bot allegation as opposition propaganda.

"They'll always dispute whatever achievement by Malaysians. Even today #Merdeka55 & just like what DAP leader condemn Lee Chong Wei on Olympics," he said in a posting.- malaysiakini

Anwar - Kita perlu hentikan dasar segelintir orang mengaut kekayaan dan meminggirkan rakyat...

 Anwar Ibrahim mengajak rakyat negara ini menyingkap semula lembaran sejarah dan memberi makna baru  bagi kemerdekaan tanah air.

“Mari lah menggilap semula semangat perjuangan, memberi makna kemerdekaan. Kemerdekaan menjanjikan kebebasan dan kebajikan kepada rakyat, bukan segelintir pemimpin.

“Kemerdekaan menjamin kepedulian, siapa saja yang mendapat amanah untuk memimpin negara, mereka tidak mendapat mandat  sepertimana penjajah. Mandat itu  dinilai oleh rakyat hanya setelah mereka terbukti dapat memberikan khidmat,  pengorbanan dan kebajikan sebaiknya kepada rakyat,” ujarnya.

Beliau yang juga Penasihat Ekonomi Selangor berkata demikian ketika sambutan Ambang Merdeka yang diadakan di Dataran Shah Alam malam tadi.

“Dalam menyingkap lembaran sejarah ini, kita harus insaf bahawa kemerdekaan tidak dicapai dengan seruan dan slogan.

“Kemerdekaan dicapai dengan sumbangan ibu bapa kita yang bertungkus lumus dan sejarah yang lalu, ada yang korbankan nyawa dengan menentang kuasa besar penjajah Inggeris.

“Tokoh besar nasional, Almarhum Datuk Onn Jaafar, Almarhum Dr Burhanuddin Al Helmy dan lain-lain seangkatan harus kita hargai dan perlu ketika ini kita singkap sejarah perjuangan mereka,” ujar Anwar.

Menurut Anwar, generasi sekarang khususnya generasi muda harus menanyakan kembali erti kemerdekaan yang menjamin kebebasan, di mana dasar negara, ekonomi dan budaya ditentukan oleh rakyat sendiri.

“Kemerdekaan bererti, negara tahu peritnya penjajahan, kita benci dengan imperialisme atau kolonialisme sebab ada unsur penindasan.

“Oleh itu soal legitimasi pemerintahan mana-mana negara dalam negara merdeka itu harus ditentukan secara yang sah, pilihan raya yang bersih dan teratur, dan itu semangat kemerdekaan yang dijanjikan dalam perisytiharan kemerdekaan oleh Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al Haj.

“Kita mesti hentikan dasar yang membolehkan segelintir orang memunggah kekayaan dan meminggirkan rakyat. Selangor di bawah pimpinan Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim menekankan supaya khazanah Selangor dipulangkan kepada rakyat Selangor, ini erti semangat kemerdekaan.

“Semangat kemerdekaan itu tidak berhenti dengan perbarisan, dengan pesta-pestaan.

“Semangat kemerdekaan itu harus mampu menimbulkan rasa kecintaan kepada negara dan tanggungjawab yang harus dipikul oleh generasi hari ini,” tegasnya.- keadilandaily

Of Merdeka themes...

“Sebangsa, Senegara, Sejiwa” sounds right, doesn’t it? As opposed to “Janji Ditepati”? Never mind that one came from the government and the other from the opposition.

Let’s admit it. Before this, many of us couldn’t care less what theme is was for National Day. How many of us are able to remember any of the themes from the previous National Day celebrations? Did it even matter to us what theme or logo was used?

 We still got a holiday. We still got to see a celebration with colourful processions and floats; wondered how masses of people could be moved in choreographed movements; ooh’ed and ahh’ed at fighters moving in formation across the sky streaming coloured smoke; pointed at paratroopers jumping out from helicopters; and gaped at the military hardware on display.

How many of us can actually and honestly say and admit that National Day celebrations mean something other than a day off? With the exception of one occasion when we watched in amazement and delight as the then-Yang di-Pertuan Agong single-handedly stopped the procession and mounted a motorbike, I can’t think of any National Day celebration which has been memorable.

Please don’t misunderstand me. I don’t mean to downplay and discount the work and effort of the thousands of people involved in the celebrations. It’s amazing and great that we are able to get together, commemorate and celebrate our National Day in such a fabulous way.

But the thing is, we have taken it for granted that every year it would be a show that the government would run without fail. It would be the government’s show. 

In fact, this year the government took it a step further and decided to not have the annual logo design competition. The whole thing was outsourced to the Ministry of Information, Communications and Culture. The minister himself was even the writer of the theme song! Very few people seemed to care or give a damn before, so why should this year be any different, right? Wrong, apparently.

The “cincai” work on the logo, the arrogant tone of the accompanying theme song, even the inappropriately political “Janji Ditepati” as the Merdeka theme have been thoroughly thrashed by all and sundry. Apparently, Malaysians do give a damn. So what made this year so different?

I think that the events over the past few years have succeeded in uniting and making people aware of what it means to be a citizen of Malaysia, and have resulted in many of us reclaiming our stake in the future of this country. Many of us, who would otherwise be apathetic towards the whole National Day exercise, have decided that enough is enough.

National Day is a day for all Malaysians and not an opportunity for the government of the day to boast about its achievements and political agenda. That it is a chance for us to reflect on our progress and development as a people and as one nation.

That is why “Janji Ditepati” is so jarringly wrong and opportunistic. Besides it also being the slogan of the Barisan Nasional government’s political campaign, it also feels and reads like an unspoken threat: we have fulfilled our end of the deal, now it’s your turn.

The political spin doctors can spin however they want to, but many people have read it this way. Which is why, it is a pity that the government has remained obstinate in wanting to continue on its present course. Many National Day themes will come and go. But the “bodoh sombong” manner in which the concerns of many Malaysians regarding this year’s celebrations were dealt with will be remembered for a while to come.

In the meantime, I will go with a theme which feels and sounds right to me as a citizen of this great country because we are “sebangsa, senegara, sejiwa.”
