Sungai Puyu rep tops asset declaration list...
State executive councillor and Sungai Puyu assemblyperson Phee Boon Poh remains the "wealthiest" Pakatan Rakyat elected representative in Penang, if his asset declaration is anything to go by.
Phee has owned various properties - an apartment, two houses, with one in New Zealand (inherited), a shoplot (inherited) and two pieces of land (a plot in New Zealand) since 2008.
He added a penthouse in Bagan Ajam and a bungalow in Batu Kawan in 2011.
Phee has a rich investment portfolio, made up of unit trust shares in 30 different companies. (One up from 29 in 2008).
His assets have remained unchanged as on May 5.
But Phee's wealth is nothing new as it is public knowledge that the veteran politician is well off as a result of family inheritances.
As for the chief minister, there appears to be no increase in properties of Lim (right), who owns two shophouses in Malacca. He purchased both for RM965,000, as shown in his declaration in 2008.
At a press conference held at Komtar today for state excos and assemblypersons to declare their assets, Lim caught many by surprise when his declaration revealed that he does not own a vehicle.
Asked about this, Lim simply replied "because I have a state government car".
The other assemblypersons who do not own cars are Teh Lai Heng (Komtar) and Lee Khai Loon (Machang Bubuk) - both are new and won their seats in the recently concluded general election.
State exco Abdul Malik Abul Kassim remains without property, fixed deposits and shares since March 2008.
However, since then he has increased the cars in his possession, from a Proton Tiara in 2008, to include a Honda CRV 2.0 and Ford Ranger as of May this year.
No shares
State excos who do not invest in shares nor have fixed deposits (FDs) under their names are Deputy Chief Minister II P Ramasamy (Perai), Dr Afif Bahardin (Seberang Jaya), Jagdeep Singh Deo (Dato Keramat) and Law Heng Kiang (Batu Lanchang).
Other assemblypersons who are in the same boat are Thanasekharan Autherapady (Bagan Dalam), Teh Yee Cheu (Tanjung Bungah), Lau Keng Ee (Pengkalan Kota), Maktar Shapee (Sungai Bakap), Salleh Man (Permatang Pasir) and new assemblypersons Lim Siew Khim (Sungai Pinang), Norlela Ariffin (Penanti), and Dr Jayabakan Thambyappa (Batu Uban).
Wong Hon Wai had 1,000 units of PBA shares in 2008 but no longer has them in his May asset declaration.
In 2008, State Assembly speaker Law Choo Kiang (Bukit Tambun) (left), had a blank sheet except for a Perodua Myvi in his possession.
As at May this year, records show him investing in shares of 10 companies. However, he has no fixed deposits in his name, but has made a joint property purchase in Bandar Cassia.
Newly elected assemblyperson Yap Soo Huey (Pulau Tikus) has yet to own any property. However she has RM55,025 in fixed deposits, and two vehicles - Vespa Lx 150 and Toyota Prius C, which she holds in trust for her parent.
Khai Loon, another newbie, has yet to buy a property or a vehicle but has invested in Amanah Saham Wawasan 2020 (10,254 units) and has RM41,900 in fixed deposits.
The complete list of the assets for each person will be uploaded on the Internet, said Lim.
The list of assets distributed to reporters is divided into four columns - as at March 8, 2008; Dec 31, 2011, Dec 31, 2012 and May 5 this year.-malaysiakini
