Hanya berkata benar

"Saya bersuara bukan mahu menjatuhkan parti. Saya hanya berkata benar kerana bimbang tentang masa depan negara," katanya.

Saya hanya berkata benar kerana bimbang tentang masa depan negara," katanya lagi. - mk

Kalau tak salah, jangan campur siasatan 1MDB, kata Muhyiddin

Ketua cawangan Umno dari Taman TKK, Kamarul Aznan Habibur Rahman (tengah) bersama 12 lagi ketua cawangan menggesa Perdana Menteri Datuk Seri Najib Razak supaya meletak jawatan sebagai presiden parti. – Gambar The Malaysian Insider oleh Melati A. Jalil, 24 Oktober, 2015.
13 Cawangan Publicly Tell Najib To Quit Now...

This certainly steals the show from Najib's Budget presentation yesterday.  Obviously these 13 Cawangan UMNO leaders cannot be bothered about Najib's Budget anymore.

I believe there is more rebellion going on in Negeri Sembilan than just these 13 Cawangan from Teluk Kemang.  It looks like an open rebellion is building up in UMNO. As I said before something has to give. Meaning there has to be cracks developing somewhere. It is coming from inside UMNO.

Syabas UMNO Teluk Kemang.

Talk on the ground is that easily HALF of ALL UMNO members will not support Najib and UMNO in the next elections.

Looking at these 13 Cawangan in Teluk Kemang, I believe there are many, many more UMNO Cawangan who also do not support Najib.

Perhaps with this open defiance by these 13 Cawangan in Teluk Kemang, the rebellion inside UMNO will spread and Najib will be kicked out into the dustbin of history.

Najib’s populist budget ala Robin Hood

Budget 2016: Subsidy cuts and other things Najib didn't tell you...

Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak offered a list of good news under Budget 2016 which included a hike in civil servants' pay, increase in BR1M cash handouts, and Goods and Services Tax rebate for mobile phone purchase.

But where is all the money coming from when the country is facing falling revenue from a slump in commodity prices?

Malaysiakini uncovers the ‘bad news’, by breaking down Budget 2016 for you based on ministries which have suffered the worst cuts.

What the premier failed to mention in his budget speech include the likelihood of pricier cooking oil, more expensive train and flight tickets on 'uneconomical' routes, the poor having to pay for their electricity bills, and other subsidy cuts.

1) Finance Ministry - General subsidies almost halved

At first glance, it would appear the Finance Ministry had suffered the worst from an austerity budget, with its allocation being slashed by RM7 billion or 17.8 percent, from RM39.247 billion to RM32.247 billion.

However, closer scrutiny showed the heavy cut was made possible through a reduction in subsidies which is expected to go down by a whopping 45 percent, or RM8.707 billion to RM10.633 billion.

Other notable cuts in the ministry include a 95 percent reduction in allocation to the Poor Students' Trust Fund (Kumpulan Wang Amanah Pelajar Miskin) from RM200 million to a mere RM10 million.

These cuts allowed for increased spending in other areas, including an allocation of RM1.073 billion to deal with the new increase in minimum wage.

The government has already embarked on an aggressive subsidy rationalisation exercise since the beginning of this year and it is unclear where the further subsidy reduction will come from.

2) High Education Ministry - Less money for universities

The second largest cut was targeted at the Higher Education Ministry which saw its budget reduced by RM2.4 billion to RM13.378 billion.

To make up for the shortfall, public universities will suffer the brunt of the cut as they will see their funding reduced by RM1.442 billion.

The worst hit universities are Universiti Malaya, followed by Universiti Malaysia Terengganu and Universiti Teknologi Mara, which budget were slashed b 27.3 percent, 23.76 percent and 23.72 percent respectively.

Some MPs, including Bayan Baru MP Sim Tze Tzin, have raised concerns if this will mean higher tuition fees next year.

3) Commodities Ministry - Pricier cooking oil

Plantation Industries and Commodities Ministry saw a 60.76 percent reduction to its budget from RM1.659 billion to a mere RM651 million.

While the ministry's programmes saw an across the board reduction in allocation, it will be the consumers who will feel the burden the most.

This is because the single largest cut came from the RM950 million cooking oil price stabilisation scheme which was completely defunded under Budget 2016.

Under the scheme which was introduced in 2007, it ensured a ceiling price on cooking oil, as well as sufficient supply in the market by compensating producers.

With the scheme effectively abolished next year, consumers are likely to pay more for cooking oil.

4) Transport Ministry - Train, flight subsidies reduced

The Transport Ministry will see a budget reduction of 14.1 percent, or RM648 million, to RM3.955 billion, the fourth largest cut among the ministries.

Areas that will see cuts include subsidies for KTM trains and flights from rural regions.

Specifically, the subsidy on "uneconomical" KTM routes will be slashed by more than half, from RM52.9 million to RM25 million.

Subsidy for rural flights, as well as on aircraft rental, will also be reduced by RM5 million from RM160 million.

Other reductions will come primarily from the ministries' operations.

5) Energy Ministry - No more electricity subsidy

The Energy, Green Technology, and Water Ministry comes in at fifth place for the largest allocation cut under Budget 2016, with a reduction of RM605 million to RM2.262 million.

Likewise, it will be consumers who will suffer the most as the single largest slash is the electricity bill subsidy of RM150 million which will be completely defunded.

Presently, households which use less than RM20 in electricity have their bill fully subsidised by the government to help poor families.

6) Defence Ministry - Downsized national service

The Defence Ministry will see a budget reduction of RM459 million, the sixth largest cut to a ministry.

The amount is relatively small compared to the Defence Ministry's huge budget of 17.304 billion for next year.

The cut came largely from the downsizing of the national service programme which allocation will be reduced from RM614 million to RM276 million.

However, other areas have also seen cuts, including a reduction of RM100 million to RM2.701 billion for air defence, even as the government plans to acquire new assets in difficult economic times.

Under Budget 2016, the Defence Ministry will acquire six Littoral Combatant Ships, Very Short Range Air Defence weapons system, armoured vehicles, and the A-400M Airbus.

7) Urban Ministry - Solid waste management

The Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Ministry is the only other ministry to have experienced a cut of more than RM300 million.

Under Budget 2016, the ministry will be allocated RM4.173 billion - compared to RM4.572 billion this year - a reduction of RM399 million.

The single largest cut will come from solid waste management; its funding will see a reduction of 17.3 percent from RM1.036 billion to RM857.1 million.

It remains unclear how the ministry is going to handle solid waste management while still saving RM178.9 million.

However, it should be noted the ministry's budget provided for RM15 million for the operation of a new landfill next year, which is a more economical method of waste disposal.

*This list excludes the Home Ministry; its Federal Expenditure Estimates has yet to be uploaded by the Finance Ministry. - mk

Speaker minta senarai ahli parlimen tak sokong Najib...

- fmt

Aliteh Abdullah - Jawapan nampak cerdik tetapi bangang, adakah usul perlu senarai nama?

frankiepo - Pandikar asking for the anti Najib list is akin to Najib's lawyer asking for the defence strategy from WSJ. The stupidity just never end in Malaysia.

Malaysian Opposition Long Shot to Topple PM

Azalina resubmits motion after no apology from Kit Siang...

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Azalina Othman Said has resubmitted a notice of motion to suspend DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang from Parliament for insulting speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia.

This is after deputy speaker Ronald Kiandee accused Lim of refusing to apologise to Pandikar when the Gelang Patah MP disappeared during the emergency debate on the haze situation.

Kiandee (photo) pointed out that Lim was to apologise to Pandikar after the hour-long emergency debate which was to end at 5.30pm.

"If Gelang Patah (MP) is not in the House, then we assume that he is refusing to retract his statement," he said.

Pandikar had earlier threatened to refer Lim to the rights and privileges committee for disrespecting the speaker after Lim accused him of sabotaging the 1MDB probe.

Lim had taken issue with Pandikar for ordering the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) to cease its probe after the government appointed its chairperson and three other members into the government instead of allowing the committee to proceed under its deputy chairperson Tan Seng Giaw (DAP-Kepong).

Several opposition MPs stood up to defend Lim after Kiandee remarked that the DAP leader’s absence would be construed as a refusal to apologise.

'No malicious intent'

"Most of us assume the sitting would end at 5.30pm," said Tian Chua (PKR-Batu).

"Why the rush, we will convene again tomorrow," added Steven Sim (DAP-Bukit Mertajam).

However, Kiandee refused to budge, stating that the MPs should not be making assumptions.

"I stand by the speaker's decision that the Gelang Patah (MP) must explain after the emergency debate. I take it that he is not in the House and he has defied the speaker's instruction," he said.

Earlier today, Lim explained in Parliament that his remarks had no malicious intent against Pandikar.

He said he was only referring to the outcome of Pandikar's decision not to allow the PAC to proceed and not the speaker himself.

"I have the fullest respect for the speaker and I make no malicious allegation that he 'deliberately' abused his powers or that he 'deliberately' sabotaged the PAC’s 1MDB investigations.

"But (I was) stating the effect of his decision to stop PAC from continuing its 1MDB investigations until the various vacancies are filled when Parliament meets some three months later," he added.

No apology

Lim said that he had never used the word "deliberately" as alleged by Pandikar and was merely asking Hanipa Maidin (Amanah-Sepang) whether he agreed that the speaker's decision on PAC was tantamount to sabotage during the debate yesterday.

Lim said he disagreed with Pandikar's decision to stop the PAC based on standing order 82(1) which stated that 'every select committee shall be so far as is practicable, the balance between the parties within the House is reflected in the committee".

He said it was Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak who had made it impracticable for the committee to have a balanced composition after he appointed four BN parliamentarians into the government and refused to hold an emergency sitting to appoint new members to the committee.

"It is not for the speaker to cure a problem created by the prime minister – bearing in mind that the speaker must also be conscious of the need to have a PAC which has the respect of the nation as a body which is conscientious in its responsibility to uphold the integrity of government finances, as in its investigations into the 1MDB scandal," he said.

Lim did not offer any apology in the statement, stating that he "rests his case" following the lengthy explanation.- mk

Misteri Mesej WhatsApp Si Mati...

Bekas rakan kelas seorang lelaki yang meninggal dunia keliru apabila menerima mesej daripada si mati menerusi aplikasi WhatsApp selepas disahkan mati meninggal dunia.

Seramai 19 rakan sekolah berusia 53 tahun yang mewujudkan kumpulan sembang Sekolah Kebangsaan Bandar Hilir, Melaka di sini terkejut apabila menerima mesej daripada Yong Soo Fah, sehari selepas kematiannya akibat diserang sakit jantung semasa bercuti di Langkawi pada 9 Oktober lalu.

Seorang rakan kelasnya, Lim Dow Toon berkata, mesej itu: "Come start happy now all my F..I go F."

- mstar

Message from dead man baffles ex-classmates

Where is Gani Patail's MC, asks Dr M...

Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak had been accused of derailing the investigations of a special task force concerning 1MDB and the RM2.6 billion in his private bank accounts when Abdul Gani Patail was suddenly removed as attorney-general.

The official reason for the change was health reasons, but this failed to convince former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad said in his blog today.

"The AG (Gani) was said to be sick, but he denied he was sick.

"As far as is known, no medical certificate certifying that he was sick seems to have been issued," he said in a blog posting today.

Mahathir also accused Najib of "usurping the powers of the judiciary" when he removed Gani while he was preparing the case for the courts and appointed a judge Mohamed Apandi Ali to take over the post.

Ironically, the former premier himself had been accused of castrating the judiciary during his tenure, which included the sacking of then lord president Salleh Abbas.

Same treatment

Mahathir also alleged that Najib, as head of the elected legislators, failed to respect the principle of separation of powers.

For example, he said officers of the administration who were investigating 1MDB and the RM2.6 billion were transferred out to the Prime Minister's Department, resulting in them stopping their work.

"Their replacements apparently were with the approval of the prime minister.

"Officers of the MACC have been similarly treated, again resulting in the investigations being obstructed," he added.

Mahathir has repeatedly called on Najib to step down and even accused his once blue-eyed boy of committing theft.

However, the prime minister has denied any wrongdoing and claimed that Mahathir was part of a conspiracy, which included the foreign media, to topple him.

As for the RM2.6 billion, the sum has been described as a political donation from a Middle Eastern source.- mk

But Ah Jib Gor says RM26b - RM9b = RM15b

Malaysiakini reports that he did say from RM26b down to RM9b is RM15B !!!

Najib hiding behind Speaker, dodging questions...

Shamsul-Iskandar-Akin

Najib must tackle question head on, as otherwise it might dampen foreign investor’s confidence in the nation and consumer sentiment.

Bukit Katil MP Shamsul Iskandar Akin has expressed disappointment that questions directed at Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak was being rejected by the Speaker.

“The Prime Minister should not hide behind the Speaker and avoid important questions,” he said during a press conference in the lobby of Parliament House.

The MP stressed that Najib must tackle questions head on, as otherwise this might dampen foreign investor’s confidence in the nation and consumer sentiment. “I challenge Najib to face Parliament professionally and answer these questions. This involves integrity and trust,” he said. “If not, it’s an admission that we are indeed facing a crisis.”

Apparently, the Speaker rejected three questions posed by Shamsul, all directed to the Prime Minister. One of the questions was on the Prime Minister not stating his stand on his sacked deputy Muhyiddin Yassin’s statement that the country was facing a grave problem of trust deficit.

Shamsul also asked the government’s rationality on maintaining the 1Malaysia concept while the Prime Minister had openly supported the racist Malay rights Red Shirts rally recently.

He said that the controversial 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) has already tainted the image of the country, and questions posed in Parliament on the company should be answered. “It concerns the integrity of the country.”

“The Speaker shouldn’t reject just questions as it also involves the integrity and image of the nation,”

The 1MDB scandal has already tainted Malaysia’s image at an international level and the leadership of the Prime Minister will continue to be questioned, he said. “The refusal of the Prime Minister to defend the 1Malaysia concept also shows inconsistency in the nation’s unity agenda.” - fmt

Story kat SINI dan SINI

House rejects seven questions on Najib-1MDB...

The parliament secretariat has rejected in chambers at least seven questions related to controversies surrounding Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and 1MDB.

Tian Chua (PKR-Batu) had his two questions rejected. The first was whether 1MDB accounts had been frozen in Switzerland and Hong Kong, and if the government would be cooperating with the probe there.

This was rejected on the grounds that it was prejudicial and could confuse the public.

His second question was regarding the US Justice Department's reported corruption probe on 1MDB. This was rejected on grounds that questions were based on statements made in the press are there not allowed in the House.

"If the government doesn't verify these allegations, then we are forced to assume that these foreign reports are real," Tian told Malaysiakini later.

Gooi Hsiao-Leung's (PKR-Alor Setar) asked a similar question about the US Justice Department probe which was rejected on the same grounds.

Two other questions he asked were also rejected.

One was a question asking the prime minister if he received RM42 million from a company linked to SRC international in his private accounts as reported by the Wall Street Journal.

"But these are not statements made in the press, this is investigative writing by the WSJ. [...] This is not hearsay, these are factual matters that have been shown to exist to an extent," Gooi (photo) said at a press conference at the parliament lobby.

'Blanket ban on 1MDB questions'

The other question that was spiked was to ask the prime minister whether his lawyers Hafarizam Wan and Aisha Mubarak were being paid by the government for representing him in his pending lawsuit against the WSJ.

This was rejected on grounds that it can be answered by other ministers.

A question by Raja Kamarul Bahrin Shah (Amanah-Kuala Terengganu) on whether the federal government, through the Terengganu Investment Authority, had wanted to use Terengganu's oil as collateral was also rejected in chambers.

"The question was directed at the federal government, but they rejected it as a state government matter. There is a blanket ban on 1MDB-related questions," said Raja Kamarul Bahrin (photo).

Wong Chen's (PKR-Kelana Jaya) question to the finance ministry for a copy of Yayasan Rakyat 1Malaysia's (YR1M) accounts particularly with regard to what the RM190 million donation from the Genting Group was spent on, was also similarly thrown out.

There are many lingering questions linked to 1MDB and Najib.

Besides the RM42 million transfer, there's also the RM2.6 billion donation Najib received and the progress of various probes into the debt-ridden sovereign wealth fund. - mk

Sistem berparlimen Westminster: Undi tak percaya mesti didahulukan...

- roketkini

Utusan Melayu ordered to pay Anwar RM200k, plus interest...

The High Court in Kuala Lumpur today ordered Utusan Melayu (Malaysia) Bhd, the publisher of Umno-owned newspaper Utusan Malaysia, to pay RM200,000 plus interest to former parliamentary opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim.

Judge Hue Siew Kheng also rejected the move by Utusan's lawyer, Firoz Hussein Ahmad, who tried to bring up Anwar’s sodomy conviction in his argument.

Anwar's lawyer N Surendran said the ruling showed was proof that the Umno-owned newspaper was not practising responsible journalism.

"This vindication proves that Datuk Seri Anwar has been slandered by Utusan Malaysia, which is known by all to be owned by Umno.

"They still repeat such cases and we hope this will be a clear lesson for them. This is not the way of running a responsible newspaper," Surendran  told reporters outside the court.

Anwar won his suit against Utusan and its chief editor Abdul Aziz Ishak in 2013, following the daily's publication, citing his interview with the BBC in 2012, that he supported lesbians, gays, transexuals and bisexuals.

Justice VT Singham, who delivered the decision before his retirement, took the daily to task for failing to practise responsible journalism.

Some 50 activists and PKR members led by the Otai Reformis group also gathered in front of the court today to 'welcome' Anwar.

They carried banners and shouted 'Reformasi!' when a convoy of Prisons Department vehicles escorting Anwar arrived at the court complex about 2pm.

Surendran also took the Prison Department to task on the matter of proper medical treatment for Anway, which his family members have raised on several occasions.

"We have raised the issue time and time again and he (Anwar) still has not been provided with treatment for a serious problem on his right shoulder.

"His family members, friends andf supporters are very disappointed that this matter is being dragged on. He has not been getting the medical treatment that he needs," Surendran added.- mk

Najib In Trouble – Get Ready For A Snap Election Next Year 2016...

Merdeka Center had conducted a national poll on Prime Minister Najib Razak recently. If the findings from the latest poll which was carried out in August are reliable, then the Malaysian prime minister who is allegedly linked to corruption, money laundering and murder is in deep shit. It seems Najib’s rhetoric isn’t effective anymore.

The poll, apparently, showed that the crucial Malay vote bank for Najib regime stood at a pathetic 31% as compared to 52% registered in January this year. In other words, the pink lips has lost a whopping 21 percentage points since the 6% GST, RM42 billion 1MDB scandal, RM2.6 billion “donation” found in his personal bank account, and whatnot, exploded.

Interestingly when the poll was conducted, 5 major events haven’t happened yet namely – Red Shirts rally, Al-Jazeera documentary on Altantuya’s murder, Najib’s hiding from IACC conference, FBI’s investigation into 1MDB money laundering, and China Ambassador visit to Petaling Street (Chinatown). These events occurred only in September.

Manifesto - PR vs BN - BR1M RM1200

This month (October) we witnessed one of Najib’s warlords Tajuddin threaten to slap every Chinese that he could land his hands on. Then we have the biggest bombshell – a decree by nine Malay Sultans questioning 1MDB scandal. And central bank governor Zeti has since revoked permission for 1MDB to do investments abroad. So, you’ve roughly 3 events in October.

In short, after the poll which found Najib’s popularity dropped like a rock in August, the country has been rocked by another 8 major events or revelations. Throw in the ringgit’s spectacular depreciation to RM4.48 to a dollar (Sept 29), and you have 9 bad news stacked against Najib son of Razak. The latest toll hike adds the number to 10.

You don’t need a rocket scientist to predict the result if a new poll is to be conducted today. None of the above ten events are advantageous to Najib. Was it a coincidence that PM Najib suddenly calls the ethnic-Chinese as “sons of Malaysia” today, instead of the traditional “migrants of Malaysia” label, after the poll found that only 5% of the race supported the regime?

Of course, if the ethnic-Malay support were to remain at above 50%, the money is on the table that Najib wouldn’t give two hoots about the local Chinese, who have been used as punching bag by Najib’s political party UMNO for as long as one can remember. Now that his own race is not in favour of him, he runs to the Chinese to suck up to them. Continue reading...

Tol punya pasai, 2 wakil DAP diarah keluar dewan...

Dua anggota parlimen DAP, Lim Lip Eng (Segambut) dan Gobind Singh Deo (Puchong) diarah keluar dewan hari ini.

Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia mengeluarkan arahan itu selepas Lim campur tangan dalam prosiding parlimen, apabila bangun bertanya kenapa usul membincangkan isu kenaikan kadar tol ditolak.

Gobind pula diarah keluar selepas mengkritik Pandikar ketika cuba mempertahankan Lim.

Pandikar bagaimanapun percaya Lim bertujuan mengganggu prosiding dewan.

Day One: Two DAP MPs told to take hike over tolls...

The final session of the Parliament sitting got off to a heated start, with war of words erupting in the House and two opposition lawmakers given the marching orders.

Lim Lip Eng (DAP-Segambut) was the first to be shown the exit for interfering with parliamentary proceedings, when he stood up to enquire why his emergency motion on toll hikes had been rejected.

Speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia then booted Gobind Singh Deo for offending him when the DAP-Puchong MP attempted to defend Lim.

Lim had argued that his motion should not have been rejected as there was room for one after Pandikar turned down Teresa Kok's (DAP-Seputeh) emergency motion on the disappearance of orang asli children in Gua Musang, Kelantan.

Pandikar, however, believed Lim had intended to disrupt the House proceedings.

When Lim refused to sit down, the speaker ordered parliamentary officers to escort him out.

When Gobind stood up, Pandikar explained that both motions were not urgent and could be debated during the budget.

Gobind rebutted, saying the speaker had to be honest.

"You have to honest and clear in the decisions you make," he said, angering Pandikar.

"The moment you said I have to be honest, you have questioned my integrity," the speaker shot back.

Gobind was then given the boot after continuously trying to defend his remarks and refusing to retract his statement.

At a press conference later, the ejected duo said the reason for the speaker to boot them out was questionable.

This was because the house had already rejected a motion brought by Kok.

"My motion was rejected as the speaker said there can only be one urgent motion per day," said Lim.

"The speaker said his decision is final. Before I can say my piece, I was kicked out," he said.

"The speaker said there is another motion by Kok that needed to be expedited," he said.

"But Kok said her motion was rejected too," said Lim.

"This made the reason for the speaker to reject Lim's motion questionable," added Gobind.
"I stated the principle that in arriving at a decision, a correct decision needs to be made so (that there is) no allegation of dishonesty," he said.

"I want him (speaker) to explain so that there is no perception of dishonesty on the part of the House," he said, adding that the speaker missed the chance to make the correct decision.

He denied that he had called Pandikar dishonest.
He urged the speaker to allow the lawmakers space to speak.

"With due respect, I find the speaker very angry this morning. You have to control your anger," he said.

"It's a shame; this is the first day of Parliament sitting. We have a lot to debate today," he said.

At a press conference later, the ejected duo said the reason for the speaker to boot them out was questionable.

This was because the house had already rejected a motion brought by DAP Seputeh MP Teresa Kok on the seven missing orang asli children.

"My motion was rejected as the speaker said there can only be one urgent motion per day," said Lim.

"The speaker said his decision is final. Before I can say my piece, I was kicked out," he said.

"The speaker said there is another motion by Kok that needed to be expedited," he said.

UMNO's low-class ministers...

Racist and aloof; a Gerakan delegate has lamented that Umno’s ‘low-class ministers’ have led BN to become the laughing stock of the country.

Tanjong Gerakan division delegate Loo Jieh Sheng (photo) said that each year, various Umno division leaders would regularly become the talk of the country through their racist and extreme remarks.

He said the people have also associated groups and personalities like Mohd Ali Baharom, Perkasa, and Ikatan Muslimin Malaysia (Isma) with the coalition, leading to more ridicule.

“Basically people brand all of them as Umno and BN people, and unfortunately people whack us upside down because we are from the same camp […]

“And our prime minister has so many reasons, be it reasonable or not, why the annual racist festival cannot be stopped. The Malaysian political updates looks more interesting than the drama series in Astro Wah Lai Toi.

“However and unfortunately, we are the laughing stock in the eyes of people. I think some Umno ministers are living in their own world.

“I’m sorry but I call them the low-class ministers. These ministers and division leaders can still win their Parliament seat due to some demographic factors," he said at the Gerakan National Delegates’ Conference in Shah Alam today.

He said this when debating the party president’s policy speech.

Those targeted in Loo’s speech include Deputy Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Tajuddin Abdul Rahman (photo), Rural and Regional Development Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob, and Sungai Besar Umno chief Jamal Mohd Yunos, among others.

The Air Itam state assembly seat former election candidate said he had also asked many people on the street to name any ministers who have impressed them, but many simply struggled to do so.

However, he said it is not because BN ministers have not contributed to the country, but instead it is because people have a poor impression of the coalition.

Not on warpath

He also clarified that he is not on a warpath against Umno, and has in fact been advising Penang Umno on how to handle the DAP-led state government in the state assembly.

However, Loo expressed concern that Gerakan’s association with Umno could mean its downfall, as it becomes tarred with the same brush as its coalition partner.

He said although Gerakan has espoused multi-racial politics, Umno could not follow suit due to political reasons.

While he believes that Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak (photo) is a moderate but with ‘his hands tied’, he said, the voters will not be as considerate.

He said the party has to be more proactive in finding solutions to the people’s woes, even if it is just ‘one strong solution’ to convince them to vote for Gerakan.

He added that in the current political climate, a multi-racial party like Gerakan can shine by being vocal against both Umno and DAP. - mk

Ex-1MDB boss Shahrol Halmi must explain USD700m to Jho Low...

Former 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) chief executive officer Shahrol Halmi must tell Malaysian taxpayers why he allowed US$700 million to be misappropriated to Good Star Limited and why he should not be charged with criminal breach of trust, with the latest board minutes expose from the Sarawak Report.

The Sarawak Report exposed the minutes of the 1MDB board meeting on 3rd October 2009 which recorded that the board of directors (BOD) were furious with the top management team led by Shahrol.

The questions remain on why he willfully defied the Board of Directors of the Ministry of Finance (MoF)-owned 1MDB.

According to the minutes, 1MDB went ahead with the signing of the joint venture with Petrosaudi (PSI) without specific knowledge and approvals from the board. More specifically, the top executives of 1MDB transferred US$700 million of the proposed investment to an account unrelated to the joint venture company (JVco).

The minutes clearly stated that “the BOD was not consulted on the change of plans to remit US$700 million to PSI. The BOD’s understanding was for the full US$1 billion to be wired to the joint bank account under the name of the JVCo…”

The minutes of the meeting proved beyond reasonable doubt that the US$700 million of the proposed US$1 billion had been misappropriated by Shahrol. It beggars belief that despite the clear case for criminal breach of trust, Shahrol remains today a director of 1MDB.

Perhaps Shahrol’s performance is so impressive that Premier Najib Abdul Razak has also made him a director in the performance management delivery unit (Pemandu) of the Prime Minister’s Department.

In contrast, the BOD were so livid that they demanded for the US$700 million to be returned “so that the funds could be remitted through the originally agreed channel”.

Reprimanded for intransigence

The directors also openly reprimanded the top management for their intransigence. They specifically instructed Shahrol and his top management “not to deviate from the BOD’s instructions”. They further “advised Shahrol to seek clarification from the BOD if the CEO and management have doubts on any particular matter”.

Of course, based on information already available on the public domain, we know that the US$700 million was never returned to 1MDB.

Instead of Shahrol being removed from office for his outrageous actions, it was the Mohd Bakke Salleh (photo) who quit as the chairperson of 1MDB two weeks later, presumably in absolute disgust.

With the 1MDB board minutes as the incontrovertible evidence, Shahrol Halmi must explain to all Malaysians why he signed the 1MDB Petrosaudi joint venture agreement in such haste.

He had agreed to invest US$1 billion in the joint venture within five days of meeting the Petrosaudi executives for the very first time in London.

He must also explain why he misappropriated US$700 million to Good Star Limited, a company unrelated to the joint venture, and why he subsequently disobeyed specific instructions by the Board to have the money returned to 1MDB.

He owes the explanation to Malaysians because 1MDB is a wholly-owned Ministry of Finance subsidiary. Today, 1MDB is in a desperate need of a multi-billion ringgit bailout with taxpayers' funds. It is also today a major cause of the collapse of confidence in Malaysia’s economy and its currency causing untold hardship to the man-on-the-street because of the scandal Shahrol ignited.

The question is, did he defy the BOD because of his own wilfulness, or did he dare to do so, because he had even more powerful personalities giving him instructions to carry out the misdeeds?

If he fails to explain himself, Shahrol must be charged with criminal breach of trust, fraud and even abetting embezzlement. He will then undoubtedly go down in the record books as the villain behind the single largest financial scandal in the history of Malaysia to be remembered for generations. - Tony Pua,mk
