Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar told MPs from both sides of the political divide that he would not entertain any attempt to topple the government. In his royal decree during the opening of Dewan Rakyat's new session today, the king said everyone should respect the coalition government that has been formed.

"I wish to stress here that I will not entertain any request from any party who tries to disrupt the country's political stability. "All parties must accept the reality and respect the unity government that has been formed. Should any of you want to play politics, then wait until the next election," he said.

Sultan Ibrahim urged all MPs to work together towards building the nation and serving the rakyat as the country's success or failure should be on the shoulders of every elected representative. Since the 14th general election in 2018 - which saw the BN ruling coalition defeated for the first time in 60 years - Malaysia had witnessed constant political realignment and coup attempts. The political instability had led to three different prime ministers leading the country in a single Parliament term.

From Sheraton to Dubai...

The first coup happened in 2020 when Bersatu, along with 11 MPs from PKR, left the Pakatan Harapan coalition to form a new government with several other parties including Umno. Dubbed the Sheraton Move, the political manoeuvre caused the collapse of the then Harapan government and the resignation of Dr Mahathir Mohamad as its prime minister.

Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin then took over the office as Malaysia’s eighth prime minister, with the support of his new coalition named Perikatan Nasional and several other parties, including from Sabah and Sarawak.

In August 2021, Muhyiddin was forced to resign as prime minister following divisions between him and Umno. He was replaced by Umno vice-president Ismail Sabri Yaakob, who managed to secure some political stability through a memorandum of understanding with Harapan until the 15th general election in November 2022.

The general election results came back with no single party or coalition having enough numbers to form the government on its own.The inability of political parties to secure enough cooperation to cross the 112 MPs threshold had created an impasse, before the then Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah decreed for a unity government to be formed.

The call was heeded by Harapan, Umno, Sarawak’s GPS, and several other parties which then formed a government with Anwar Ibrahim as the prime minister, while Muhyiddin-led PN decided to stay as the opposition. Rumours about a change of administration - or prime minister - started as soon as Harapan allied with BN to form the federal government following the general election.

In May 2023, there were rumours of alleged attempts to force by-elections in BN-held seats with the elected representatives quitting their parties. Another rumour surfaced in late 2023 when Community Communications Department deputy director Ismail Yusop claimed the opposition was planning a “Dubai Move” to topple Anwar’s administration. - mk

Walk out lagi,lama2 walkover...

Saya missed acara wajib PN di Parlimen – “walk out” lagi, walaupun baru semalam titah YDP Agong pasal adab di Parlimen. Pengerusi PN, Tan Sri Muhyiddin berkata: “Just because they have a majority, they do what they want without following the procedures that have been in place” Masa dia tak de majoriti di Parlimen dan bukan PM, dia walk out. Masa dia tak yakin majoriti di Parlimen dan dia PM, dia isytihar darurat gantung parlimen.

Sepanjang saya menjadi Ahli Parlimen pembangkang, saya tak pernah bangun ganggu perbahasan dengan menggunakan Standing Order (atau Peraturan Mesyuarat) seperti yang berlaku dengan pembangkang sekarang. Walaupun pada satu ketika, bekas Ahli Parlimen Ketereh, Tan Sri Annuar Musa mengejek “Ahli Parlimen Pondan, eyh salah Pandan” konon untuk buat lawak dan terang-terang melanggar Peraturan Mesyuarat. 

Saya hanya menjawab “Umur Ketereh tak jauh beza dengan umur ayah saya dan rakyat melihat akhlaknya pada usia itu”. Kerana waktu yang ada untuk Ahli Parlimen berucap itu pendek, sekitar 5-7 minit sahaja. Gunakanlah peluang itu untuk menyampaikan perkara yang substantif, lebih-lebih jika pembangkang kerana itu sahajalah peluang untuk kita pamerkan kemampuan kita mentadbir dengan cetusan idea yang lebih baik dari kerajaan.

Malangnya, pembangkang yang ada selalunya ketandusan idea untuk membahaskan perkara-perkara yang substantif. Akhirnya mereka melengahkan dan mencuri masa dewan dengan perkara remeh temeh yang berlegar sekitar Standing Order (selalunya atas alasan “mengelirukan dewan”, padahal mereka yang mudah terkeliru).

Walaupun tugas Speaker Dewan menjadi lebih sukar dan tekanan darah naik sepanjang masa, amalan “walk out” oleh PN ini akan memakan diri, jika tidak berjaya mempamerkan fungsi pembangkang di Parlimen. Lama-lama dari “walk out” menjadi “walk over”.(dalam kepala terngiang-ngiang Putrajaya menjerit “Tarik Balik”, ulang 100x) - YB.Rafizi Ramli

Why PAS is not for me...

 

PAS has, of course, been incredibly successful in winning the Malay-Muslim vote. It emerged from the 2022 election as the largest single party in parliament. It also made impressive gains in Selangor. But PAS knows that without sufficient non-Malay support, it cannot tilt the overall political balance in its favour. Non-Malays may be a declining demographic but they remain a significant bloc in several key seats. This is the backdrop for the revived ‘PAS for All’ initiative. I cannot speak for others (though I suspect not a few will share my views on this) but PAS is not for me for several reasons.

First, the many statements and actions by PAS leaders over several decades – all of which are a matter of public record – has led me to the conclusion that PAS is simply not sincere. It is disingenuous, devious and duplicitous. PAS leaders say, for example, that the party will be fair, respectful and tolerant of our diversity but it has not stopped them from demanding the exclusion of non-Muslims from leadership positions, denigrating other religions and blaming non-Muslims for the ills of the nation.

No PAS leader of any standing has ever apologised or disowned any of their disgraceful and bigoted statements. If they are saying all this while still in the opposition, just think of what they will do when they are in government.

Second, PAS has simply no clue how to run a modern economy. Look at their track-record in Kelantan where they have held absolute power for decades. Kelantan remains one of the poorest states in the country, a state that cannot provide economic growth, jobs and even clean drinking water.

Selangor PAS information chief Zurk Ahmad in announcing the ‘PAS for All’ campaign promised that under PAS rule, Selangor would become “more prosperous and able to provide more job opportunities and transform Selangor into an economically competitive state, ensuring corruption-free politics, and improving the utilisation of resources.”

If PAS can really do all that, why haven’t they done so already in Kelantan or even Kedah? The truth is they are too obsessed with religion to even begin to comprehend how to run a modern state. They are great at coming up with all sorts of initiatives to punish people for the slightest infringement or for curtailing the rights of others but utterly hopeless when it comes to improving living standards, attracting investments or uniting the nation.

Third, PAS disrespects our Federal Constitution, a constitution premised upon secular liberal parliamentary democracy. Going by its own publicly-avowed objectives, PAS aims to transform Malaysia into an Islamic theocracy where everything will be subject to the whims of the mullahs. If they succeed, Malaysia would become another repressive and autocratic theocratic state like Iran.

I don’t want to live in an Islamic state. I don’t buy the PAS narrative that everything will be hunky dory in their theocratic state. I’ve already seen what they stand for – the bigotry and intolerance, the curtailment of our rights, a harsh legal system along with brutal punishment – and I want none of it.

Whenever the issue of PAS comes up, comparisons are invariably made between the leadership of the late PAS spiritual adviser Nik Aziz and current president Hadi Awang. The message seems to be that if only Hadi could be more like Nik Aziz, non-Muslims would have less trouble supporting him. There’s no doubt that Nik Aziz was a humble, honest and highly respected leader but I for one wouldn’t have voted for him or PAS simply because PAS stands for a system of governance that I do not trust nor do I believe would be good for Malaysia.

At the end of the day, PAS is simply bad news for Malaysia. It’s just not the party to lead us forward at a time when Malaysia is facing great challenges. They have no answers to any of nation’s problems. They are divisive, intolerant and regressive. It will be a dark day for Malaysia if they were to take power in Putrajaya.

I know that standing up to the Islamists might be a futile endeavour but I will hold fast to the Malaysia that that was bequeathed to me by Tunku Abdul Rahman. Here I stand; I can do no other. – Dennis Ignatius

Islam Hadi yang mencabar Perlembagaan...

Sudah terlalu banyak bom jangka yang dicipta Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang sudah meletup. Minda Presiden PAS sudah menjadikan menghisab dan memadankan dalil-dalil mulia untuk mengeji seteru politik sebagai acara mingguan. Letupan 3R kali ini bukan sahaja mengeruh integriti Institusi Kehakiman dan Majlis Raja-raja, malah seruan ini memperalatkan agama sebagai medium asing dari Perlembagaan Persekutuan.

Seruan mencabar Perlembagaan Persekutuan ini tidak terhad kepada ego Presiden PAS merendahkan diri di sebalik ayat suci Al-Quran dalam bicara keadilan dalam Islam. Keadilan sebenarnya tidak boleh ditafsir sehala dari lensa dan kedudukan pihak-pihak yang terlibat. Mereka mempunyai konflik, kepentingan dan kemahuan masing-masing. Mahkamah tidak akan pernah boleh memuaskan hati semua pihak. Sebab itu kita sering sahaja melihat, mereka yang sebelum ini memuji ketegasan mahkamah hari ini menghamun institusi tersebut. Begitulah sebaliknya. 

Kejumudan ini memaksa pengasingan agama dengan sistem perundangan. Akhirnya ia sekali lagi mengembalikan persoalan masyarakat kepada stereotaip ekstremisme agama yang dibawa aliran Hadi – Bagi Presiden PAS, solusi kesempurnaan Islam versi PAS adalah jawapan kepada semua persoalan tanpa mengambil kira fikrah penubuhan negara, jauh sekali demografi. Apalah sangat kontrak sosial dan kestabilan negara bagi mereka? Begitu jelas pelanggaran yang dilakukan dalam perang saraf Hadi hanya untuk mereka berkuasa.

Ketika demokrasi tidak berpihak kepada PAS, begitu lantang Tuan Guru menjenamakan Perlembagaan Persekututan sebagai muslihat yang diterima Tanah Melayu demi kemerdekaan. Ironinya, perlembagaan ini tidak pula menipu umat Islam ketika komrad mereka memegang kuasa. Tabiat gopoh memberi ulasan keras sebegini adalah satu ketagihan yang memakan diri.

Tidak menghairankan api kegamaan ini sengaja dimarakkan susulan Ahli Parlimen Marang itu menyindir keputusan Mahkamah Persekutuan apabila panel sembilan hakim dalam keputusan majoriti 8-1 membenarkan petisyen oleh peguam Nik Elin Zurina Nik Abdul Rashid dan anak perempuannya, Tengku Yasmin Nastasha Tengku Abdul Rahman untuk membatalkan 16 peruntukan enakmen jenayah syariah Kelantan. Malah secara terbuka juga beliau mempertikai titah Sultan Selangor dengan alasan sekadar memberi peringatan kepada umat Islam untuk mempertahankan akidah.

Dakwaan berkaitan konflik kepentingan tersebut tidak lebih daripada sekadar percubaan mewujudkan prejudis dan persepsi ke atas hakim yang berwibawa. Lalu keluarlah segala macam maksim undang-undang seperti 'justice delayed is justice denied'. Dan dibalas pula dengan 'justice hurried is justice buried'.

Biar di pihak mana pun kita, kesemua ini menunjukkan bahawa isu undang-undang bukanlah isu yang pegun dan mudah. Angkubah dan perkiraan yang diteliti adalah pelbagai. Peruntukan dan asas undang-undang harus jelas. Bukti dan fakta mesti tidak meragukan. Sentimen dan perkara-perkara yang tidak sepatutnya tidak boleh diheret masuk sama sekali.

Persoalan perundangan yang diajukan adalah jelas; berkaitan bidang kuasa dewan undangan negeri dalam menggubal undang-undang seperti diperuntukkan di bawah Perlembagaan Persekutuan. Persoalan tersebut telah dijawab dengan jelas dan tuntas. Tidak sedikit pun menghakis keimanan dan keyakinan muslim yang waras terhadap usaha memartabatkan institusi  mahkamah syariah. Namun ‘ancaman’ yang dipamerkan jelas menunjukkan sikap hipokrasi segelintir kelompok pimpinan yang cuba mencipta cerita dongeng. Persoalannya, apakah enakmen syariah di Kelantan lebih suci berbanding di negeri Selangor seperti yang telah diputuskan oleh Mahkamah Persekutuan pada 2021? Di mana jeritan dan lolongan “pertahankan syariah” pada ketika itu? - Kamil Munim

Car driver got pulled out of the car & lynched to death...

'I cannot bear watching the viral video; 

we want justice for my son's death'...

The father of a man who was tied up and beaten to death after an accident in Taman Pelangi Semenyih 2, Kajang, Selangor, on Tuesday cannot bear to watch the viral video of the assault. Samad Bakar, 70 (above), said he hoped the perpetrators who caused his 41-year-old son Shahril's son death would be hauled to court and receive the punishment they deserve. He said he only learned about the accident after being contacted by his third child at 1.30am on the day of the incident.

"At that time, my child only informed me that my son was beaten up. However, he did not tell me that he (Shahril) had passed away. "I prepared to go to the location, but my child told me it was unnecessary as the deceased had already been taken to Serdang Hospital," he said when met at his home in Taman Ulu Beranang today, after receiving a visit from Lenggeng assemblyman Datuk Asna Amin.

Samad said although he does not know the actual events that led to the incident, he still believes that his son should not have been treated in such a manner.

"The deceased was the second of seven siblings, a good person who never argued back when scolded. He was still single and helped my wife and I a lot in our restaurant. "He showed no signs that he would be leaving us forever, but two days ago, he suddenly returned and slept at home, even though he usually sleeps at the restaurant," he said.

Shahril's brother, Syazwan, 27, said the family will leave it to the police to investigate the matter so that legal action could be taken against the suspects responsible for his brother's death. "They (the suspects) should not be freed easily because they caused his death. I have obtained a complete recording of the incident from members of the public at the scene. I've informed the police that I'm willing to be a witness. "We want justice for my brother," he said.

Meanwhile, Asna believes the actions of the suspects which allegedly led to Shahril's death were highly unjust and outrageous."Even if they were furious over the incident, he should not have been punished to the extent of causing death. Many are shocked as if they did not show any humanity. "Do not take over the role of the police in meting out punishment." He assured that Shahril's family will receive legal representation for what transpired.

Police said yesterday it has arrested five suspects to facilitate investigations. Kajang district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zaid Hassan had said that based on information from the scene and intelligence, officers from the district Criminal Investigation Department arrested the five at 2.05am yesterday at two separate locations, in Beranang and Semenyih.

Before the arrest, a video clip with a message was seen circulating on social media, alleging that the deceased had crashed into a delivery rider and refused to stop. The message read that the two were involved in a crash at a traffic stop in Taman Pelangi Semenyih 2, and some motorcyclists who noticed the man not stopping after the crash gave chase towards Oakberry, Taman Pelangi Semenyih 2. - NST

Kajang: Seorang lelaki bukan hanya ditarik keluar daripada kereta oleh orang awam selepas kemalangan, bahkan tangannya diikat dan dia dipukul hingga maut.Kejadian tragis itu berlaku semalam, selepas lelaki berusia 42 tahun terbabit yang memandu Proton Saga kelabu terbabit kemalangan dengan penghantar makanan. Sejurus kemalangan itu, mangsa dikejar orang awam hingga ke Taman Pelangi Semenyih 2, di sini sebelum keretanya terbabas dan melanggar pagar kawasan perumahan.

Ketua Polis Daerah Kajang, Asisten Komisioner Mohd Zaid Hassan berkata, pihaknya menerima maklumat pada 9.20 malam mengenai kemalangan di Taman Pelangi Semenyih 2. Katanya, siasatan awal mendapati Proton Saga berwarna kelabu dipercayai terbabas dan melanggar pagar kawasan perumahan, manakala mangsa terbaring di atas jalan dengan kesan pergelangan tangan seperti diikat.

"Pihak ambulans yang hadir mengesahkan mangsa meninggal dunia dan siasatan turut dijalankan Bahagian Siasatan Jenayah Ibu Pejabat Polis Daerah (IPD) Kajang di lokasi," katanya dalam kenyataan, hari ini. Mohd Zaid berkata, terdapat saksi di kawasan perumahan memaklumkan melihat mangsa yang terbabas, ditarik keluar daripada kereta oleh sekumpulan lelaki dan mangsa dipukul.

"Kemudian, tangan mangsa diikat sambil terbaring di tengah jalan berhampiran kenderaan, namun apabila kenderaan Peronda Polis (MPV) tiba, semua individu di lokasi mulai beredar. "Pasukan Forensik Polis Diraja Malaysia (PDRM) Bukit Aman hadir ke lokasi kejadian bagi menjalankan pemeriksaan lanjut," katanya. Menurutnya, beberapa sampel darah termasuk termasuk kesan cap jari diambil dan turut dirampas dua utas gumpalan tali warna hijau/coklat untuk siasatan lanjut.

"Bertindak atas maklumat dan siasatan, polis menahan lima lelaki berusia 25 hingga 52 tahun pada 2.05 pagi tadi di sekitar Semenyih dan Beranang. "Semua tangkapan direman lima hari sehingga 25 Februari bagi membantu siasatan mengikut Seksyen 302 Kanun Keseksaan dan Seksyen 41 Akta Pengangkutan Jalan 1987," katanya.

Menurut Zaid, bedah siasat ke atas mayat mangsa dijalankan di Hospital Serdang hari ini dan setakat ini, kejadian dipercayai berpunca daripada kemalangan pertama yang berlaku berdekatan tempat kejadian. "Mangsa melarikan diri dan dikejar oleh orang awam tetapi sehingga kini tiada pihak yang tampil membuat laporan mengenai kemalangan pertama.

5 arrested for allegedly 

beating driver to death...

Five men were arrested today on suspicion of murdering a driver in Kajang, district police chief Zaid Hassan said. He added that the victim, a 42-year-old man, was involved in a crash, which subsequently led to a “riot”. The driver was beaten up to death after he hit food delivery rider and tries to run. The suspects have been remanded for five days to assist in the investigation, Zaid confirmed. 

“It is said to have stemmed from the first crash that occurred near the scene, where the victim fled and was chased by the public. “However, no police report has been received on the first crash,” Zaid said in a statement, adding that the Kajang police headquarters had received a phone call about the incident in Taman Pelangi Semenyih 2.

Initial investigations found that the victim’s vehicle crashed into a fence in a residential area. The driver was lying outside his car with bruises on his wrists. After taking statements from local residents, police said they believed the victim was pulled out of his car and subsequently assaulted. His hands were later tied as he was lying in the middle of the road near his car.

“A post-mortem will be conducted at Serdang Hospital today,” Zaid added. The case is being investigated for murder under the Penal Code, and traffic police have also opened an investigation for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving under Section 41 of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Zaid said members of the public with information on the incident may contact the case investigation officer, Redzuan Mat Salleh, at 013-785-4100, or file a report at the nearest police station. - FMT

Anwar to stop our decline, not be part of revival...

 

Reading about Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim reminding the corrupt and powerful in the country that his room in Sungai Buloh Prison is still vacant has reminded me of something. You see, I have a peculiar way of looking at Anwar. In my eyes, he has nothing to do with the present or the future. Whatever problem we have in the present, he is not going to solve it, and whatever direction we need for the future, he is not going to set it.

The only thing Anwar is good for is to help us deal with our past. We have a burdensome past and we need Anwar to help us unshackle ourselves from it so that it will stop weighing us down and cause us to sink into a never-ending abyss of decline and deterioration. We don’t yet know how we are going to settle our problems in the present or navigate the future, but the one thing that we do know for sure is that we cannot do it while being shackled to an out-of-control and self-absorbed past.

In other words, we have to deal with our past first, before we can focus on the present and the future. A good past is one that had its time in the sun and prepared the grounds for the future to rise. A bad past is one that is still clinging to life even after its world ceases to exist and its time has passed, and by clinging to life, it suffocates the present and threatens to kill the future even before the future even has a chance.

We currently have a bad past. We have a bad past because past leaders refused to ride into the sunset, although they already had their time in the sun and although their time and world had passed. I will even go so far as to accuse our previous generation of leaders of being so self-absorbed and out of control, that they are willing to cause the ship called Malaysia to sink so they can remain captain of the ship. They would, in other words, rather drown as the captain of a sinking ship, than be a part of a smooth sailing ship where they are not the captain.

Different leaders required...

The fact of the matter is that the nation requires different sorts of leadership at different times. When the nation is just born, it requires one sort of leadership, when it is developing, it requires another sort, when it is booming, it needs another sort, and when it is declining, it needs another sort. That we still have geriatric leaders who are past their expiry date, telling us we should be charging ahead at full speed as if our country is still booming, at a time when our country might actually be facing a situation where we are better off retreating, is not only delusional, it is dangerous.

A leader who commands his soldiers to charge even when they are almost certainly going to be annihilated, rather than retreat, regroup, and reorganise to fight another day, is not brave and daring. He is a self-absorbed and out-of-control individual. They can talk until their mouth foams about how they only wish to serve their country and people, but their actions will clearly tell you the only thing they ever truly serve is themselves.

Not only do they serve themselves, they likely view themselves as being somewhat more special or superior to others, and to protect this irrational and delusional view of themselves, they will destroy not just themselves, but everyone else in the process. It is to ensure that we have leadership that is suitable for our times and prevent nutcases who delusionally believe they are special and superior to run the country, which is why we practise democracy.

Power to elect leaders...

Democracy follows the idea that the wisest ones who can determine who is best fit to run the country are the people themselves. The people are the ones you can always trust to decide on what is best for the country because the people are the ones whose feet are always firmly planted on the ground. The “atas” people can afford to live in their head – those of us with too much money, too high a position, and too indulgent in pleasures, often do – but the people, who actually have to carry the weight of the world, do not have the luxury to indulge in excesses.

We have to always keep things real, and because we are the ones who always have to keep things real, it is we, as a collective, that are best able to decide on who amongst us is most fit to decide the future of the country. Currently, the primary problem in our country is that the power to decide the future of the country has been taken away from the people.

The power to decide the future of the country has been taken away from us because we put too much trust in the previous generation of leaders, to the point that we allowed them to assume extraordinary wealth and power, and they are using their entrenched power and wealth to divide us further.

There is a reason why we allowed the previous generation of leaders to assume extraordinary wealth and power – the booming economy we experienced in the 1980s and 90s required power and wealth to be centralised in the hands of a capable leader for its benefits to be fully reaped, and so we centralised it in the hands of leaders like Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

But when the boom period ended around the time the new millennium approached, we increasingly found ourselves stuck with the past leadership, who are not refusing to let go of the power and wealth that we centralised in their hands, but are using the power, position, and wealth they have in their possession to relentlessly pressure our racial and religious fault lines, to divide us in such a way that we are unable to collectively apply our wisdom and choose leadership that is fit for our times and circumstances. This is where Anwar, in my view, Anwar comes in.

The ancien régime...

Anwar is a part of the previous generation of leaders who are used to having the power and wealth of the nation centralised in their hands. After a power struggle in the late 90s however, he has broken ranks with the past generation of leaders. Despite being humiliated and almost destroyed by the power struggle, he made an astounding comeback and became the prime minister 25 years after he was unceremoniously fired as the deputy prime minister.

In the last odd year since he has ruled, we can see Anwar intends to rule the country in the same way the country was ruled in the 80s and 90s by such people as Mahathir, although the circumstances today are far different from how it was then. We have to bear with it however, because we need a leader with the mentality of the ancien régime to fight against the rest of the ancien régime and their acolytes so they no longer suffocate us in the present and destroy our future.

In the same way that we need a thorn to remove a thorn, or use fire to fight with fire, we need an Anwar to free our political and economic system from the debilitating shackles of the ancien régime. As long as the ancien régime and their acolytes dominate our political and economic landscape, we will never be able to seize the day and secure the future.

We know Anwar’s humiliation and suffering at the hands of the ancien régime will almost certainly persuade him to hunt them down one by one. That is what we need because the ancien régime and their acolytes who dominate our economic and political landscapes are clearly ruining us and causing us to spiral into a decline and deterioration.

But we also have to be careful not to make the mistake of affording Anwar too much power to go after them either. Whatever it is, let us not forget that he is also a part of the ancien régime. As much as the ancien régime uses the power and wealth in their possession to divide the nation and secure their position, Anwar is also capable of doing it if we give him too much power to deal with our irksome past.

Anwar, we must remember, is here only to stop our decline, he is not going to be a part of our revival. If we forget this, then the solution we assumed would solve our problem, might become an even bigger problem than our original problem, and cause us to spiral down to an abyss so deep and dark, that we can forget about revival in this lifetime. - Nehru Sathiamoorthy

MADANI vs KARTEL...

1. Minyak masak.

Minyak masak zaman PN melambung tinggi. Kartel tekan kerajaan PN untuk naikkan harga sesuai harga pasaran dunia. Bila naik Kerajaan Madani, Allahyarham DSSA siasat, Rupanya hanya 5% sahaja penggunaan minyak masak dalam negara banding dengan pengeluaran. 95% adalah di eksport. DSSA tolak permintaan naik minyak sawit dan minta harga diturunkan.

2. Telur ayam. 

Sebelum PRU 15 telur ayam kerap hilang. Walhal Malaysia siap eksport telur lagi. Bila menang sahaja, DSMS buat mesyuarat dan siasat kes telur.  Kartel telur minta naik harga, walhal Kerajaan dah subsidi. Semua tunjuk keras kepala. Akhirnya kerajaan import masuk dari India. Ramai rakyat ketawakan. Tapi kartel gerun. Telur tak boleh simpan lama, nanti busuk. Sejak tu telur mula masuk balik pasaran. Harga stabil. Kartel takut nak sorok lagi, tahu kerajaan dah ada Solusi, import masuk dari luar.

3. Dedak ayam

Antara punca harga ayam dan telur ayam mahal ialah soal dedak. Kerajaan PH Selangor mengorak langkah tanam jagung. Tapi itu tak atasi masalah, Kerajaan Madani siasat isu ni dan akhirnya Suruhanjaya Persaingan MyCC denda hampir setengah billion (RM415.5 juta) kepada 5 syarikat ayam. Kartel marah tapi takut.

4. Apung harga ayam

Setelah kes dedak diselesaikan, Kerajaan Madani dengan beraninya menarik subsidi ayam. Maka harga ayam diapungkan ikut harga pasaran. Sebelum ini dari Februari 2022 sehingga subsidi ayam ditarik, kerajaan dah belanja RM3.8 billion. Selepas ini kerajaan akan jimat RM100 juta sebulan.Walaupun harga diapungkan, harga ayam stabil.

5. Beras

Sara diri beras selama ini sekitar 62%. Lebihnya Malaysia bergantung dari beras import terutamanya dari India. Akibat isu geopolitik dan cuaca, India hentikan eksport beras. Beras import mendadak naik harga. Ini menyebabkan panik di Malaysia dan beras tempatan yang sebelum ini kurang dipandang rakyat Malaysia menjadi rebutan. Usaha kerajaan meningkatkan hasil padi sedang berjalan, tapi seperti kita faham ia bukan boleh dapat dengan segera. Belum kira lagi soal banjir, kemarau,ribut dan serangan perosak. 

Kartel dilihat cuba sailang usaha kerajaan untuk cukupkan beras. Beras tempatan hilang berbulan-bulan. Kerajaan menetapkan harga padi pada pada RM1200 per tan. Kerajaan beri subsidi RM500 per tan, menjadikan jumlah petani dapat ialah RM1700 per tan. Bernas beli pada kadar RM1350 per tan. Tapi kilang beras beli sehingga RM1750. Ini menimbulkan persoalan mengapa pihak kilang sanggup beli mahal berbanding harga lantai RM1200 yang ditetapkan kerajaan?

Namun beras tempatan masih hilang dalam pasaran dan muncul isu seperti campur beras dan label beras import pada beras tempatan. Beras import dijual pada harga RM35-RM40 untuk 10kg, berbanding RM27 untuk beras tempatan. Maksudnya dengan penipuan ini, pengilang boleh untung kerana mereka mencampurkan beras import dan tempatan. Disebabkan tiada kaedah tuntas untuk kenal pasti beras import dan tempatan yang dicampurkan, serta rangkaian kartel yang besar.

Maka kerajaan dijangka akan perkenalkan Beras Madani pada harga RM30 sahaja untuk 10kg.

Tiada lagi beras putih import dan tempatan, sebaliknya hanya saru sahaja jenis iaitu beras Madani pada harga tetap RM30. Beras Madani Insya-Allah akan dimuktamadkan tidak lama lagi oleh PMX. PMX  berani mengambil risiko untuk membetulkan keadaan. Bagi Anwar tiada apa yang rugi dipihak beliau. Peluang yang Allah berikan untuk pimpin Malaysia,  beliau gunakan sebaiknya. Bersama kita lawan kartel yang selama ini mengawal ahli politik,  kerajaan dan mempermainkan rakyat Malaysia. - Muhammad Fairul Al Qasas

Scrapping pension to avoid bankruptcy...(updated)

Paying the price for 60 years 

of corruption & racist policies...

Malaysia is in financial deep shit, but most of its 33 million populations especially the largest ethnic group – Malay – doesn’t realize it. The fact that 80% of the Malay voters chose Perikatan Nasional, a coalition comprising Malay nationalist Bersatu and PAS Islamist parties that subscribe to radicalization and extremism, speaks volumes about the ignorance of the country’s problems.

Look no further than the depreciation of Malaysian Ringgit against not only the U.S. dollar, but also against neighbouring Singapore and even the Philippines and Thailand currencies in the region. The local currency is trading dangerously at RM4.78 against the greenback, and hit a fresh historical low of 3.5518 against the Singapore dollar about a week ago.

It doesn’t matter whether MIDF Research incorrectly projected that the Ringgit will reach RM4.00 against the U.S. dollar by end 2023. It also doesn’t matter whether the central bank – Bank Negara Malaysia – insisted that the weakness in the local currency “does not reflect economic fundamentals”. And it certainly doesn’t matter whether PM Anwar Ibrahim blames external factors or not.

The more half-past-six analysts and authorities give lame excuses in denial, the more foreign investors will avoid the country like a plague. It’s both amazing and laughable they still think that investors were stupid. Even if Anwar has the political will to reform the ailing country, which he does not, it was too late as the country is plunged into a mountain of RM1.5 trillion national debts.

When the ruling party Barisan Nasional was finally ousted from power in the May 2018 General Election after having ruled for 61 years since independence in 1957, the national coffers were already running dry due to massive corruption. Ironically, Mahathir Mohamad, the “Father of Corruption” who had ruled for 22 years (1981-2003) discovered that Malaysia had raked RM1 trillion when he became premier again in 2018.

But Mahathir would rather hand over the power to his trusted lieutenant Muhyiddin Yassin than to Anwar Ibrahim as promised, leading to the clueless and incompetent backdoor government of Muhyiddin (and subsequently “turtle egg” Ismail Sabri) plundering even more national treasures. By the time Anwar was installed as the 10th Prime Minister, the national debts had ballooned to RM1.5 trillion from RM1 trillion.

Malaysia Pensioner

The sudden jump in debt was largely due to the corruption and money laundering in the RM600 billion Covid scandal during Muhyiddin’s short 17-month regime, where the country was locked down under the pretext of fighting Covid and the Parliament was shut down to prevent expenditure from being scrutinized. It was a dark age of incompetence, corruption, policy flip-flops, Coronavirus mishandling and economic mismanagement.

Even though ex-Prime Minister Najib Razak had been toppled and jailed, the crook has done so much damage that not only the country had accumulated RM1 trillion in debt, but his 1MDB scandal saw US$4.5 billion stolen and the Malaysian government has to assume US$7.8 billion (RM37 billion) in outstanding debts – including 30-year bonds due in 2039.

Yet, in what appeared to be elites protecting crooks, the previous King Sultan Abdullah of Pahang had awarded Najib with a 50% discount of his original 12-year jail term and slashed his fine of RM210 million by 75%. The despicable royal pardon, which PM Anwar cowardly and shamelessly defended as fair, has spooked investors, leading to the Ringgit dumping.

If you think Malaysia isn’t on the right track to bankruptcy, think again. Adding fuel to the bankruptcy factors is the pension scheme, which is a sensitive issue where the majority of the country’s 1.7 million civil servants are Malay. While 71% of pensioners currently are Malay, 13% are Chinese and 7.8% Indians. The fact that Anwar government is even discussing it is the clearest proof that the country is in a dire state.

The country has one of the most bloated civil services in the world – one out of every 19 Malaysians is a civil servant. That’s 3 times more than Singapore in terms of the civil servants ratio to the population. Crucially, pension payouts have spiked in the last 15 years and are projected to grow. Pension payments amounted to RM11.5 billion in 2010, but nearly tripled to RM31 billion last year.

In 2040, the government would have to spend a jaw-dropping RM120 billion on pension alone. In the Budget 2024, the government spending on emoluments – wages for civil servants – would be a staggering RM95.64 billion, representing 24.29% of total budget of RM394 billion. It is the largest expenses. The combined expenditure of wages and pension would be a whopping RM128 billion – 32.5% of the total budget.

Najib Razak in Prison

Infamous for inefficiency, incompetence, unproductive and arrogance, the huge pool of government servants contribute to another problem. In 2010, Cuepacs president Omar Osman revealed that a total of 418,200 or 41% of the total number of civil servants in the country was suspected of being involved in corruption. Yet, the government continues to reward them with cash to appease the vote bank.

Yes, the whole purpose of the hiring civil servants, even though they were not needed, was to guarantee the survival of the previous Barisan Nasional ruling government. The civil service workforce has increased from 1.24 million in 2010 to current 1.7 million, leading to 590,000 retirees in 2010, before jumping to 853,000 in 2020 and is projected to skyrocket to 936,000 this year.

From the beginning, the ethnic Malays have been brainwashed and tricked that only the United Malays National Organization (UMNO), of which Mahathir had ruled one-third of the 60 years since the independence, could protect them from “non-existence” threat of non-Malays. It was part of “Ketuanan Melayu”, an ideology of Malay supremacy espoused by UMNO to cling to power.

Of course, it was nothing but a scam to enrich Malay elites like Mahathir, Najib, Muhyiddin, Sabri and their cronies and families. The same racist and discrimination policy that gave birth to NEP (New Economic Policy) and Vision 2020, which were never meant to be achieved, was also responsible for brain drain in the form of hundreds of thousands of technical skills went through a large scale migration to other countries.

To prove that the Malay nationalist party was the protector of the Malays, the government had to employ unemployable Malay graduates, who were produced at industrial scale by rigging the education system. For example, at least 90,000 of the 373,974 candidates who sat for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination in 2022 – equivalent to “O” Level – had failed the Mathematics paper.

According to some teachers who used to mark SPM exam papers, the passing score could be as low as 20%, especially for subjects like Mathematics and Science in order to make students of certain ethnic happy. Even then, some 30,000 candidates who were registered did not sit for the SPM. It’s not surprising that the system produces unemployable graduates, and graduates with poor command in English.

Malaysia - Bloated Civil Service

To paint a picture of Malay dominance in civil service, and to discourage non-Malay from the sector, the government prioritizes Malays in terms of recognition and promotion. The racial discrimination has become so bad that the Chinese community made up less than 2% of the government service employees today. It’s not entirely true that Chinese despise civil servants due to lower salary.

True, the civil service’s pay was considered low compared to the private sector. However, government employees enjoy pension, which entitles spouses and children under the age of 21 to benefits should a civil servant on the scheme die while in service. In actuality, civil servants currently have a choice between the pension scheme and the EPF (Employers Provident Fund ).

Introduced in 1951, the EPF compulsory retirement savings scheme for private sector workers requires employees to contribute 11% of their salaries to their EPF accounts. Employers, on the other hand, contribute the equivalent of 13% of the salaries of employees earning RM5,000 and below, and 12% if wages are above RM5,000. Workers may fully withdraw from the EPF from the age of 55.

For obvious reason, the pension option is more attractive and lucrative, especially when the life expectancy of Malaysians has increased from an average of 71.2 years in 1991 to 74.8 years in 2023. Unlike the private sector, civil servants do not need to chip in to the pension fund as the government contributes 5% while statutory bodies, local authorities and agencies contribute 17.5% to KWAP monthly.

The KWAP (Retirement Fund Inc.) is the same pension fund which ex-PM Najib and his partner-in-crime Jho Low had stolen from when Najib abused his power as finance minister to instruct KWAP to loan RM4 billion to SRC International Sdn Bhd (a subsidiary of 1MDB). After the loan was disbursed in 2011 and 2012, the money was siphoned out to Switzerland instead.

To add salt to injury, the KWAP has been badly managed. Its gross investment income in 2021 was merely RM6.33 billion – insufficient to pay the total pensions and gratuities that year which amounted to RM29.1 billion. Meaning taxpayers, including those working in the private sector, were subsidizing the pensioners. And some extremist would-be Malay pensioners have the cheek to mock Chinese taxpayers as second-class citizens.

Pension or EPF???

There’s a catch though. Civil servants need to serve at least 10 years to qualify for the pension, upon which they would get a pension of 20% of their last-drawn salary. The lowest monthly pension amount for at least 25 years’ service is RM1,000, while the highest amount is 60% of last-drawn salary for civil servants who have served for 30 years. The best part is the pension scheme also provides a gratuity payment.

The government is trapped in a Catch-22 situation as the old game to buy Malay votes through discrimination government jobs has come back to haunt it. It can’t abolish the pension schemes without increasing salaries substantially to entice civil servants to choose EPF as their retirement fund. However, by doing so, the government will be burning a bigger hole in the RM1.5 trillion debts as it needs to borrow more to finance its budget.

On the other hand, if it does not start trimming the bloated civil service, the explosive combined expenditure of pension and wages will continue to climb till the government eventually goes bust. It didn’t help that the salary schemes of civil servants have been revised on several occasions to pacify the critical Malay voters as inflation and cost of living hit the roof.

The government can start by halting new recruitment. However, the community that has been indoctrinated with the belief that the civil service was their birthright would find it tough to seek employment in the competitive private sector after decades of pampering them with a deplorable education system, leaving them to require a lifelong crutches to get by.

Regardless whether the government will choose to borrow more or to impose higher taxes to fund the pension scheme, a time bomb which it built in the first place, investors were not optimistic that the government could defuse the problem. After all, Anwar Ibrahim admits that since the time when he was the deputy prime minister in the 1990s, the government has chosen to kick the can down the road over the issue of pensions. -  FT

Persoalan mengenai beras Madani...

Kalau Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal bagi kenyataan dengan tepat, media massa lapor dengan tepat dan saya faham kandungannya dengan tepat, maka cerita beras Madani ini adalah seperti berikut: 

a. Sekarang ini ada dua jenis beras di pasaran. Satu beras putih tempatan. Satu lagi beras putih import. 

b. Berkuatkuasa 19 Februari ini, akan ada satu jenis saja yang dijenamakan Beras Putih Malaysia Madani. 

c. Harga siling beras Madani ini adalah RM30 bagi beg 10 kilogram (kg). Ertinya satu kg RM3. Bagi pek lima kg, harganya RM15.50 atau RM3.10 satu kg. Pek satu kg pula berharga RM3.50. 

d. Ertinya, harga siling paling rendah RM3 sekilogram dan paling tinggi RM3.50. 

e. Sebelum ini, harga kawalan maksimum beras super special lima peratus (SSTS) adalah RM2.60.

Kerajaan Madani usahakan beras putih pada harga yang berpatutan, mereka bukan sokong bahkan boleh pula kata tak perlu. Mereka lebih nakkan 𝗸𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗮𝘀 𝗽𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗵 pula. Apa dia ingat rakyat makan kertas? Dia nak buat isu kekurangan beras tempatan. Padahal 𝗱𝗮𝗵 𝗯𝗲𝗿𝗽𝘂𝗹𝘂𝗵 𝗸𝗮𝗹𝗶, kalau bukan beratus kali dijelaskan yang sejak sekian lama beras tempatan 𝘁𝗮𝗸 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗵 𝗰𝘂𝗸𝘂𝗽 kerana 𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗹𝘂𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗻 𝘆𝗮𝗻𝗴 𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗵.

Pengeluaran rendah ni pula disebabkan oleh beberapa faktor. Antaranya ialah 𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗮 𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 jualan, 𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗮 𝗹𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗶 belian serta 𝗸𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗮𝗻 dalam pasaran kerana rakyat kita lebih suka beras import. Disebabkan permintaan rendahlah maka banyak tanah tanaman padi 𝗱𝗶𝘁𝘂𝗸𝗮𝗿 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘁𝘂𝘀𝗻𝘆𝗮 𝗺𝗲𝗻𝗷𝗮𝗱𝗶 𝗸𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘀𝗮𝗻 𝗸𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝗹 dan 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗻 seperti yang diakui oleh 𝗞𝗔𝗗𝗔 sendiri.

Selain masalah itu, terdapat 𝗸𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗮𝗻 𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗽𝘂𝗮𝗻 oleh 𝗸𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗹 𝗯𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘀 di mana beras tempatan dicampurkan dengan beras import dan kemudiannya 𝗱𝗶𝗷𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗮𝗱𝗮 𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗮 𝗯𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘀 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁. Ini semua 𝘰𝘱𝘦𝘯 𝘴𝘦𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘵. Pat Mat jual tempe pun tahu. Macamana pemimpin utama PAS boleh tak tahu? Apa yang kerajaan buat sekarang adalah jalan tengah yang sangat berkesan. Dengan kaedah begini, 𝗿𝗮𝗸𝘆𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗮𝗽𝗮𝘁 𝗯𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘀 𝗺𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗵 manakala 𝗸𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗹 𝘁𝗮𝗸 𝗱𝗮𝗽𝗮𝘁 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗶 𝘂𝗻𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝗹𝗲𝗯𝗶𝗵 dengan cara menipu rakyat.

Tapi tetap harga beras naik. Kalau sebelum ni beras tempatan 10kg baru RM26.50. Sekarang naik jadi RM30. Kenaikan sebanyak RM3.50. Ya betul. Tapi RM3.50 tu untuk 10kg. Siapa dia yang makan sehari 10kg beras? Kalau kata sehari satu kg pun, kenaikan itu cuma 35 sen sehari. Itu pun kalau melantak satu kg beras sehari.

Lagi satu, beras harga RM26.50 tu pun payah nak jumpa dalam pasaran 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗯𝗮𝗯𝗸𝗮𝗻 𝗼𝗹𝗲𝗵 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻 𝗸𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗹. Sudahnya rakyat kena beli beras import yang mahal juga. Jadi 𝘽𝙚𝙧𝙖𝙨 𝙈𝙖𝙙𝙖𝙣𝙞 membolehkan rakyat dapat beli beras pada harga yang paling berpatutan. Bagi aku senang je. 𝗕𝗶𝗹𝗮 𝗸𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗹 𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗵, 𝗯𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗻𝗮 𝗶𝗮 𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗸𝗮𝗻 𝘆𝗮𝗻𝗴 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘂𝗹 𝗼𝗹𝗲𝗵 𝗸𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗷𝗮𝗮𝗻 𝗱𝗮𝗻 𝗯𝗮𝗶𝗸 𝘂𝗻𝘁𝘂𝗸 𝗿𝗮𝗸𝘆𝗮𝘁. Mungkin bagi PAS lebih penting jaga kebajikan kartel yang kaya raya daripada permudahkan hidup rakyat. Sebab tu dia marah.

- A noble wordsmith from Melbourne...

In the quiet corridors of the digital realm, where words held sway over hearts and minds, it is with heavy hearts we bid farewell to a luminary of the written word. Under the stark heading of إِنَّا لِلَّهِ وَإِنَّا إلَيْهِ رَاجِعُوْنَ, we find solace in knowing that Hussein bin Abdul Hamid, the esteemed SteadyAku47 blogger, has returned to Rahmatullah.

The news of his collapse at Avenue K Mall on 7th February 2024 and subsequent hospitalisation left a void in the hearts of many. In the poetic dance of life, Hussein Abdul Hamid gracefully concluded his earthly narrative on Thursday, 5th Shaaban 1445/15th February 2024 at 4.41am. As the dawn unfolded, we reflect on his impactful journey.

Hussein's moniker, Steady-Aku, echoed across the digital landscape, a testament to a blogger who fearlessly navigated the tumultuous seas of political discourse from his Melbourne desk. Born in 1947, he embarked on a timeless journey, leaving behind a legacy of words that stirred hearts, sparked contemplation, and occasionally left us in delightful bewilderment.

His return to Malaysia last year after decades in Australia marked a poignant chapter, perhaps a testament to his sustenance and intention to rest in the embrace of his homeland. As an avid reader of his blog, the realisation that Steady- Aku will cease to write leaves a void in the realm of thought-provoking narratives.

His last note...

In the tapestry of his blog, Hussein shared, “I started writing about what I saw happening around me. That is how STEADYAKU came about. Come, read what I write. Agree to disagree if you must. Share your thoughts with me.” Today, we reflect on the unity and kinship he yearned for in Malaysia, as he envisioned a nation embracing diversity.

Hussein, an archetype of an MCKK boy C64, wore the mantle of an agitator with a heart both kind and scarred. His blog posts, a tempest of opinions, resonated with the ascension of a batchmate from the Class of '64 to Malaysia's top leadership, embodying a melodic dance with the passage of time.

On his final post on February 6, 2024, Hussein reflected on the evolving skyline of Kuala Lumpur and the mosaic of cultures defining the city. Amidst political complexities, he found solace in the power held by "we the people" to shape destiny, leaving us with contemplative musings.

As we bid our esteemed storyteller farewell, we honour Steady-Aku not just as a blogger but as a craftsman of tales etched into the digital canvas. His brilliance, like a well-aimed arrow, pierced through the noise of discourse. In the corridors of contemplation, his legacy echoes—a resonant digital legacy that lingers in our hearts.

Rest peacefully, dear brother MCOB. Your return home leaves behind a void, yet your narratives endure. Here's to the storyteller who dared to weave tales that linger, and to a soul that has embarked on a new journey. May Allah forgive him, raise his rank in the Mahdi, and illuminate his grave. Farewell SteadyAku47 

Hussein Abdul Hamid...

Earlier today, both of us received the news that Hussein Hamid had passed away at the Kuala Lumpur General Hospital. Last week, Hussein collapsed inside a mall after suffering a stroke, which left him in a coma. He passed away peacefully without regaining consciousness.

Hussein was controversial but consistent. He exposed issues that no one else was willing to touch and challenged many of Malaysia’s top elite. We were lucky enough to regularly talk with him, and understand the changes in stand he took - in the past and lately. This resulted in Hussein being able to return to Malaysia after years in exile. We take some solace that he died in his own country. Hussein never took Australian citizenship, even though he was eligible.

Both of us had different but at the same time similar relationships with Hussein. I (Murray) spoke regularly to Hussein and we shared perspectives on issues, often jointly deciding on the approach that should be taken. I know from these discussions, Hussien had a strong moral compass, that always asked the question ‘will the Rakyat knowing this be for the betterment of Malaysia?’ We shared links and documents, and even gave each other contacts, that many in Malaysia will know.

Most of all, we spiritually supported each other. There were times when Hussein felt depressed about issues in Malaysia and I picked him up. This was reciprocated with the issues I have personally faced over the last couple of years.

I (Teck Ghee) had a relationship that was much more upfront and personal. Hussein spent most of his last weeks staying with me in my apartment and we discussed a number of issues regarding his life direction as well as did work together on plans that we intended to pursue to advance the causes that we believed in. Hussein was a fellow activist blogger that I featured in my CPI website from a long time ago. His recent work has also refocused my thinking and influenced the last batch of articles that I have written when he was staying at my home.

As we mourn the passing of our dear friend, Hussein we remember and cherish our time with him, indelibly etched in our hearts and minds. This piece is written not solely to lament the loss of Hussein. It is also to pay tribute to someone who was a true comrade sharing a mutual journey in trying to make Malaysia a better place.

For Malayia and Malaysians, Hussein’s voice will be sadly missed. Hussein was fiercely independent, free thinking, and unafraid. He wrote perhaps some of the most biting and critical commentaries on the country, our people and foes and friends that has emerged from the social media world of bloggers.

Simplicity, grace and a certain child-like quality of innocence combined with refined knowledge marked his prose. Few if any of the nation's community of political and social bloggers come close to his consistency and steadfastness in support of an inclusive and progressive country.

We can remember and pay tribute to him best by reading and rereading his writing. You will see most of his writings, especially the pieces he wrote through the Melbourne nights, came from his heart.We must all be inspired to continue his journey. -  Murray Hunter & Teck Ghee.
