Image may contain: possible text that says 'Mimpi Najib cekik ka? ..Muhyiddin'

Anwar, pesaing terdekat Muhyiddin, kini hanya mendapat sokongan 92 wakil rakyat Pakatan Harapan.

- mk

Semuas jangan sedap sangat..

- A Kadir Jasin

Cuba lihat Parti Bersatu.. Asalnya depa hanya menang 13 Kerusi masa PRU 14..

GPS + Warisan pun kena setuju, off course they will request for all the Ministry in exchange for the vote.

But when this happen, penyokong akan marah sebab pakatan mereka ada pengkhianat. I just dont see how this going to work. Not sure who's manifesto that they will deliver. But economy will go down to the drain. PH can and should be able to survive this as opposition.

Should be a solid simple majority government...

For scenario 3, Hanya UMNO H20 masuk ker kem Bersatu Shereton, masih boleh tubuh kerajaan.

Now everything hangs on the balance. - Mohd Mukhlis Mohd Sharif

Perlu diingat, GPS dan beberapa parti Borneo bersama dgn Tun atas dasar blok Tun tiada sokongan MN (yang memilih bubar sebelum ini)..

Now MN bersama blok Bersatu, dan mungkin Warisan..

HARAPAN + GPS + beberapa serpihan = Simple Majority - f/bk

With backing from UMNO/PAS,
Muhyiddin set to be next PM...

After retracting its support for Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as Prime Minister candidate, the Muafakat Nasional coalition — comprising Umno and PAS — have now pledged their support for Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin for the top government post.

"Umno (with 39 MPs) and PAS (with 18 MPs) as the Muafakat Nasional coalition have agreed to nominate Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, Pagoh MP (Bersatu) as the 8th prime minister for the consideration of the Duli Yang Maha Mulia Seri Paduka Baginda Yang Di-Pertuan Agong," the two parties said in a joint statement this afternoon.

Coupled with the support of 36 lawmakers from Bersatu announced earlier today, this brings the number of MPs backing the former Home Minister to 93, which is just 19 seats short of the 112 simple majority.

The statement did not include other Barisan Nasional component parties namely MIC and MCA, each with one and two MPs respectively.

Gabungan Parti Sarawak, which holds 18 seats, is understood to be backing Muhyiddin and is expected to announce its support.

The Pakatan Harapan coalition meanwhile nominated PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for the premiership. The coalition controls 92 seats in the Dewan Rakyat. - theedge

The Triangle Power Struggle – Mahathir Trapped Himself By Announcing His Refusal To Work With UMNO...

Like the Chinese ancient Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Malaysia’s current political crisis has transformed into three major coalitions fighting for the throne. The triangle power struggle consists of Mahathir’s coalition (63 MPs), Anwar’s coalition (92 MPs) and BN-PAS’ coalition (61 MPs). None of them has the magic number of 112 MPs required to form a simple-majority government.

The current situation is so fluid – and exciting – that any articles written could be obsolete by the time it’s published. Just when it was thought that Mahathir Mohamad, the 7th prime minister who suddenly resigned, but appointed by the Agong (King) as the interim prime minister, would be crowned again as the 8th prime minister, it’s now possible that the 94-year-old man could be jobless.

And all that could happen within this week alone. The triangle power struggle emerges primarily because Mahathir wanted to create what is known as a “unity government”, an ideal government where all the good, bad and ugly politicians from both sides of the political divide have a chance to be included in the government. In short, it’s one big happy family without the Opposition.

Unfortunately, there’s one huge problem. The country is plagued with racism, discrimination, extremism, xenophobia and all forms of bigotry that you can find in the dictionary, thanks to over 60 years of one-party rule. Coincidentally, Mahathir, the man who now wants a unity government is also the same man who had spent more than a third of those 60 years destroying the once harmony country.

It’s not hard to understand why so many people distrust Mahathir to lead a unity government. He was the man who practised dictatorial-style leadership and gerrymandering and misused institutional tools to manipulate an electoral process to stay in power for 22 years (from 1981 to 2003). And now he expects people to give him a blank cheque to rule until his death like Peter the Great?

Anwar’s Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition refuses to work with BN-PAS coalition and vice-versa. Both coalitions accuse each other of being racist, extremist and whatnot. At the same time, Mahathir appeared in television yesterday (Feb 26) saying UMNO (a component party of BN) cannot join his unity government. The old man, however, welcome UMNO members but not UMNO party.
Pakatan Harapan - Opposition New Pact
Pakatan Harapan

Therefore, all bets were off. The alliance of BN (Barisan Nasional) and PAS Islamist party immediately withdrew their support for Mahathir as the leader of the country. To make matters worse for Mahathir, Anwar’s PH coalition also made a stunning U-turn about supporting the old man after he refused to chair the Harapan presidential council meeting on Tuesday (Feb 25).

Mahathir’s refusal to attend the meeting means he had no intention of restoring the previous PH-led government, which also means all the pre-election manifesto would be thrown into the trash bin. Mahathir only wants PH’s powerful bloc of 92 votes, but not the manifesto. He wanted the free hand to explore a new unprecedented political landscape that has not been tested.

Hence, the remaining component parties of PH (Pakatan Harapan) – PKR, DAP and Amanah – were left with no choice but to nominate PKR president Anwar Ibrahim as the next prime minister. In what appears to be proof that the coup circus was orchestrated by Mahathir himself, the old fox has today decided to return back to his party Bersatu and resumes his chairmanship.

Mahathir’s support came from Bersatu (25 MPs), Azmin Ali and his 10 PKR traitors (11 MPs), Sarawak-based GPS (18 MPs) and Sabah-based Warisan (9 MPs). Yes, despite whining and crying about being backstabbed by Azmin, astonishingly, the former deputy PKR president is about to join Bersatu, which would enlarge Mahathir’s party to 36 MPs, just 3 seats less than UMNO.

One of the reasons Pakatan Harapan decided to nominate Anwar, instead of Mahathir as promised earlier, was that the former premier appeared to have trapped himself when he announced to the world that there’s no way he can work with the corrupt UMNO party. That would mean Mahathir will not be able to leverage on BN-PAS’ 61 MPs to achieve his ambitious unity government.

That explains why Anwar’s coalition was incredibly happy when they went to see the King yesterday. Pakatan Harapan’s 92 MPs have a superior number than Mahathir’s 63 MPs. For Mahathir to go back to UMNO and beg for support would be extremely humiliating. Anwar probably was betting that Mahathir would be forced to rejoin PH coalition – quite a clever strategy.
Image may contain: 1 person, possible text that says 'THE RETURN of MAHAFIRAUN'

In the eventuality that Mahathir abandons or modify his unity government concept to suit PH’s agenda, everything would be back to its previous configuration, allowing the PH coalition to rule again. Anwar’s camp was also betting that Mahathir would not dare go for a snap election, as doing so would certainly allow the return of BN – and Najib Razak – to the federal government.

But it seems Anwar had chosen to count his chickens before they hatch – again. Mahathir, in his desperation, may go bonkers and work with UMNO after all. The state of Johor has already collapsed after Mahathir’s party decided to work with UMNO in forming a new state government – another betrayal. Without approval from the top, Bersatu Johor will not dare switch sides.

After meeting with the King today, Mahathir pre-emptively revealed that a special Dewan Rakyat sitting will be convened on March 2 to see who will be the next prime minister. Mr. Mahathir has also confirmed that Bersatu (PPBM) president Muhyiddin Yassin will be one of the candidates to be offered as the prime minister in the Lower House of Representative.

The biggest giveaway that Mahathir was the hidden hand behind the recent coup to topple his own Pakatan Harapan government is that he now says he can accept if Muhyiddin wants to work with UMNO en bloc. Exactly how could he return to his party after allegedly being betrayed by Muhyiddin, let alone endorsing his lieutenant’s plan to join forces with UMNO?

Now that the King has told Mahathir to fly kite with his unity government, the old fox is tangled in his own web of deceit. If indeed he was betrayed by Muhyiddin and Azmin, he could easily ordered Sarawak-based GPS (18 MPs) and Sabah-based Warisan (9 MPs) to support Anwar’s coalition, instantly gives Pakatan Harapan a comfortable simple majority of 119 parliamentary seats.

Even the idea of going to the Dewan Rakyat to elect among its members a prime minister is unconstitutional. The King must first appoint a prime minister among the 222 MPs whom in his judgement is likely to command the confidence of the majority. The Lower House of Representative is just a place to test whether an “existing” premier enjoys the majority support.

Lim Guan Eng with Anwar Ibrahim and Mat Sabu

Obviously, Muhyiddin is the backup plan. The party’s bloc of 63 MPs, if combined with UMNO-PAS’ 61 MPs, will be sufficient to form a new government with a majority of 124 parliamentary seats. However, that depends on whether UMNO-PAS is ready to play ball. Based on UMNO’s current preparation for a snap election, it doesn’t seem so.

The Johor move was a gift to impress upon UMNO-PAS to support Muhyiddin as the next prime minister, instead of Anwar Ibrahim. The wisdom behind that was that if Muhyiddin fails to win the beauty contest in the Dewan Rakyat, then a snap election will be called. If that happens, the state of Johor won’t matter because Bersatu on its own will be wiped out completely.

Anwar’s Pakatan Harapan has until March 2 to swing kingmakers Sarawak-based GPS (18 MPs) and Sabah-based Warisan (9 MPs) to his camp. He could, for example, offer deputy prime minister posts for them. Anwar probably should call Mahathir’s bluff that he’s willing to let crooks like Najib Razak and Zahid Hamidi free after all the efforts he had done to prosecute them.

When Mahathir decided to play the coup game, there’s no turning back. This is perhaps his final war for glory, or death. The 94-year-old fox will play all his trump cards to win the throne. However, there’s something that Mahathir can never possess – the awesome brotherhood and loyalty displayed by Anwar Ibrahim, Lim Guan Eng and Mat Sabu (all of them were once prisoners of Mahathir) – built since 1998. - FT

LOL this list is unbelievable if it is true. Hope the list is not true.
Malaysia is doomed with these people in power. - twitter
Geng kawaq dan penyamoon jadi Menteri, tengok sapa Menteri  Industri Asas Tani,
Menteri Alam Sekitar,Menteri Pendidikan,Menteri Perumahan dan Menteri Wilayah...

Akhirnya dia kemut punggung kerana simpan tahi. Barang kali begitulah.
Image may contain: outdoor, text that says 'Berita Harian Online 5 min Dewan Rakyat akan bersidang pada 2 Mac ini untuk tentukan bakal Perdana Menteri Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad. #BHNasional MAL MALAYSIA'

- mso

Tindakan PM INTERIM mendahului pengumuman YDPA akan
menjadi penilaian penting Raja² Melayu dalam mesyuarat khas nanti...
Tunggulah mesyuarat Majlis Raja2,
pasai apa kalut sangat...

Image may contain: text

- Wfauzdin Ns

Mahathir, a crisis of his own making...

What a mess we are in – no prime minister, a deeply divided parliament, a highly polarized populace and an economy on the edge of recession. How did we go from dancing in the streets in joyous celebration over the rebirth of our democracy to facing the possibility of a new kind of dictatorship? In a word: Mahathir. This was a crisis entirely of his making.

He could have built a strong, stable and workable coalition after GE14. He had the numbers on his side; he had unparalleled goodwill and support; he had the most multiracial coalition that was ever elected to office.

There was general consensus and popular support too for the kind of policies that should be pursued (the reformasi agenda). It was a solid foundation to build that Malaysia Baru we all so desperately wanted and voted for. But Mahathir being Mahathir, he played his games and wove his web of political intrigue.

To the chagrin of his partners, he stacked the cabinet with members of his own party. He brought Azmin into the cabinet over the objections of Anwar, empowered him and turned him loose to harass and harangue Anwar. He cast doubts about the succession plan and acquiesced to the campaign – including Hadi’s recent confidence motion – for him to complete his full term.

He unashamedly courted the very UMNO politicians that so many despised in a bid to outflank PKR and DAP. And when that failed, he played the race card against his own coalition partners, sponsoring the Malay Dignity Congress, endorsing all the asinine talk that the Malays had lost power, that Malay disunity had allowed the DAP to become powerful.

Why would a prime minister with a comfortable majority in parliament, with a multiracial, multiparty coalition behind him see the need to play such invidious games unless he had other ambitions?

As a direct consequence of these constant political intrigues, the Pakatan Harapan coalition became gradually unstable. PKR, DAP and Amanah, worried about what he was up to, became increasingly uncomfortable with his leadership though right to the end, they were extremely wary of openly challenging him in order to preserve the coalition.

Even when things reached a climax at last Friday’s PH council meeting, his coalition partners bowed to his will and allowed him to set his own departure date, but even that was apparently not enough to stop the intrigues.
Image result for a Malay unity government

It looked like we were heading towards a Malay unity government last weekend. The sudden gathering of PPBM, UMNO, PAS, Warisan and GPS leaders in Kuala Lumpur was not just happenstance; someone with great authority must have summoned them.

But it fell apart at the last moment reportedly because UMNO MPs would not abandon their party to join PPBM. While Azmin and Muhyiddin were apparently ready to accept UMNO – tainted leadership and all – Mahathir was adamantly opposed to the “crooks and kleptocrats” (as one of Mahathir’s men put it) joining the unity government. In the end, Sabah and Sarawak leaders too got cold feet.

When it became clear that things were spinning out of control, Mahathir hastily withdrew and subsequently resigned though not apparently with the intention of departing.

Whichever way you look at it, Mahathir doesn’t come out smelling sweet. He plotted against his own coalition and is now distancing himself from the plot after it went awry. And now, ever the consummate politician, he is trying to profit from the chaos he created by calling for a non-party government under his leadership.

Having failed to build a new coalition, he is now asking (going by his address to the nation last night) for the right to rule unhindered by coalition politics and without obligation to the elected representatives of the people in parliament assembled. And with a government entirely of his choosing and completely beholden to him.

More than that, he is demanding that he alone be allowed to determine what’s best for the nation and govern accordingly. It is in effect, a demand to cede power to him at least till the next election. He calculates he can survive because parliament is too divided to stand up to him.

He should not be allowed to get away with it. It is undemocratic. It is unprincipled. And it puts too much power in the hands of a man with a terrible record of abusing it. He returned to power in May 2018 on the promise of change and reform and as part of a team.  If he cannot remain committed to both, he should resign.

With him out of the way, Anwar might well have an opportunity to cobble together a majority in parliament and form a government. Anwar will, of course, have to prove that he has the smarts to negotiate and convince other parties (especially Warisan and GPS) that he is the right man for the job.

It won’t be easy. He is himself a divisive figure. His support not just among the majority Malay population but across all racial lines is mixed at best. However, if he has the numbers going for him, he should be given the opportunity to form the government.

If not, another general election with all the uncertainty and nightmare scenarios that it might entail will be unavoidable.

Our democracy is once again at a crossroads. Many will, no doubt, be tempted to accede to Mahathir’s demand for one-man rule for the sake of security, stability and a return to economic growth. The possibility of UMNO-PAS coming back to power through fresh elections and perhaps reprieving the crooks and kleptocrats might also be just too much to countenance.

Anwar might provide a middle path between the two extremes of one-man rule or rule by kleptocrats. He is certainly not perfect (neither is Mahathir) but he represents a democratic option that might give the nation the time it needs to take a step back, to refocus, to recalibrate.

Ben Franklin, one of the fathers of American independence once noted that those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.

We should all think carefully about the choices before us and find a way to make our views known. - Dennis Ignatius

Ahli gabungan Ph dah menyampah tengok Tun. Rasanya elok Tun undur secara terhormat. - f/bk

Pakatan Harapan today confirmed that its components have nominated PKR president Anwar Ibrahim as the eighth prime minister. During a press conference today at the PKR headquarters after a PH Presidential Council meeting, Anwar said the coalition has been working to defend the mandate given to Pakatan Harapan by the people.

The coalition said this is after Mahathir, who is now serving as the interim prime minister, refused to chair the Harapan presidential council meeting on Tuesday. That meeting was held to restore the previous Harapan-led government led by Mahathir, which has since collapsed.

"Following the attempt to form a government through the backdoor, Mahathir resigned as prime minister.

“The decision by Bersatu to quit Harapan was followed by Mahathir's decision to quit as the Bersatu chairperson.

"Following this, the presidential council invited Mahathir to chair its meeting to revive the Harapan government.

“But Tun (Mahathir) did not agree to attend the meeting which was held on Feb 25."

"Thus, the presidential council yesterday decided that the prime minister candidate for Pakatan Harapan is Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim," PKR president Anwar Ibrahim said, reading from a statement, at the PKR headquarters in Petaling Jaya this evening. - mk

Bolehkah Agong lantik PM

‪Sekalipun, tanpa kerajaan majoriti, Denmark tak mengalami krisis politik. Malah, Denmark kekal menjadi negara bersih rasuah di dunia sebagai negara No.1 (terbaik) dalam Indeks Persepsi Rasuah mengikut laporan Transparency International 2019 dan negara No.4 terbaik dunia dalam Indeks Mudah Menjalankan Perniagaan mengikut laporan Bank Dunia 2020 selepas New Zealand, Singapura dan Hong Kong.‬ - Abd Malik Husain

Keputusan atas perbincangan dia...
Kerajaan Malaysia atau
Kerajaan Tun Mahathir...

- f/bk

"Gomen tanpa DAP" kata UMNO/PAS
- bukan macam dok hisap gam...

Point aku, bukan aku back up DAP, tetapi aku nak kita berpolitik bukan macam hisap gam. Mereka 42 kerusi, bukan 18. - Mus'ab Muzahar

Pelik tengok kenyataan, sidang media Anuar Musa dan Takiyyudin Hassan SU UMNO dan PAS.. tiba tiba pulak jadi berprinsip nak bubar Parlimen.. minta rakyat buat pilihan..kalau beprinsip..jangan kata tandatangan SD.. hotel Sheraton tu pun korang tak jejak ikut Azmin..

Takkan lah dah berpuluh tahun jadi Kerajaan tak faham Perlembagaan, Undang2.. nak bubar Kerajaan pertama selepas 3 tahun.. keduanya mesti atas nasihat Perdana Menteri.. sejak bila Pembangkang boleh cadang pada YDP Agong untuk bubar Parlimen..

Kalau betul beprinsip.. apakah depa tak tahu kerajaan hari ini rakyat pilih masa PRU 14 atas nama apa ? Pakatan Harapan.. jadi yang ramai ramai pi Hotel Sheraton..berpakat dengan geng Azmin untuk tubuh Kerajaan perikatan Nasional tu mana pergi prinsip masa tu ?

Masa tu kenapa tak kata, Kami tak boleh tubuh kerajaan.. sebab Rakyat memilih Kerajaan atas nama Pakatan Harapan masa PRU 14.. tiba tiba jadi berprinsip kononnya sebab kerajaan ada DAP.. bawa pulak cerita Israiliyat yang pintu dah takda..rumah dah terbakar.. semua benda nak salah DAP..

Hakikatnya bukan sebab rumah dah terbakar.. tak tahu perlembagaan..

- Ipohmali

Mahathir’s Unity Govt May Include Hishammuddin-
Here’s Why UMNO and PAS Are Terribly Upset...

During the Sunday dinner at Sheraton Hotel PJ, about 130 Members of Parliaments were seen laughing and hugging each other like long lost brothers and sisters. Everyone was extremely happy, especially UMNO President Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and UMNO treasurer Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor – two politicians currently facing corruption and money laundering charges.

People were reading with disgust how the crooks were about to walk free in less than 48 hours upon the forming of a new coalition government called Perikatan Nasional, comprising Bersatu (PPBM), PKR faction aligned with Azmin Ali, Sarawak-based GPS, Sabah-based Warisan and oppositions UMNO and PAS. They were happily counting their chickens before they hatch.

UMNO secretary-general Annuar Musa believed the ruling Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition was doomed. He said a new coalition (Perikatan Nasional) would most likely take over the government. He admitted that everyone in UMNO was “very happy” with the latest political developments. MIC president Vigneswaran revealed that Azmin was quitting while Bersatu was about to pull out of PH.

However, 48 hours later, not only were those glowing happy faces turned gloomy, they have made a spectacular U-turn. Mahathir had resigned. Their initial undivided support for Mahathir, written clearly in statutory declarations (SD) and submitted to the Agong (King), has been withdrawn. UMNO and PAS wanted a snap election instead. The Opposition no longer supports Mahathir.

With friends like PAS President Hadi Awang, clearly Mahathir doesn’t need enemies. Did not the Islamist party scream their lungs out prior to the failed coup that they would defend and support the 94-year-old (former) PM Mahathir until their last blood? In fact, Hadi’s fetish for Mahathir was so extraordinary that he had even planned a “motion of confidence” for the premier.

Not many moons ago, expressing his admiration on the Twitter platform, the PAS president said – “To save Malaysia, I see Tun M (Mahathir) becoming better with age, proven to be experienced. Can’t be sure of others (having the same experience).” Mr. Hadi had religiously pledged, almost on a daily basis, to support Mahathir’s leadership until the end of his term in 2023.

Amusingly, now that 3 remaining parties of Pakatan Harapan coalition – PKR, DAP and Amanah – have pledged their undivided support for interim prime minister Mahathir to become the 8th Prime Minister of Malaysia, PAS isn’t interested to back the same man they had been worshipping anymore. Exactly what type of Islamist holy men is Hadi Awang and his minions?

Apparently, the excitements started after Reuters revealed that Mahathir, who had resigned on Monday (Feb 24) as the country’s 7th prime minister, but appointed by the King as interim prime minister, was proposing a unity government. He had started meeting with leaders of all political parties at his office on Tuesday (Feb 25), his first day as interim PM.

Mahathir met PKR president Anwar Ibrahim, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng and Amanah president Mohamad Sabu. He also talked with oppositions UMNO president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, along with Sarawak Chief Minister Abang Johari Openg. He even met with traitors Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin and (former PKR deputy president) Azmin Ali.

Initially, there was a perception that the unity government would bring both sides of the political divide together under a single umbrella, creating a political landscape that will see zero opposition parties. However, UMNO and PAS went berserk when Mahathir’s media and communications adviser, Kadir Jasin, revealed that kleptocrats and crooks are not welcome in the new government.

It’s not hard to understand why the Opposition had no issue with the idea of grabbing power through backdoor government, but is now foaming at the mouth protesting the concept of a unity government. UMNO argued that they disagreed with the proposal to form a unity government because it include DAP, a Chinese dominated political party which was part of the now-collapsed PH government.

Since their embarrassing defeat in May 2018, the Opposition, especially UMNO, has been falsely and deliberately stirring up racial and religion sentiments among the Malays that the Muslims and Malay Rulers have lost power to the “Chinese, Christians and Communists”. Their excessive hatred for DAP is due to the fact that up to 95% ethnic Chinese had voted for then-opposition DAP.
DAP Supremo Lim Kit Siang and PPBM Mahathir Mohamad
Lim Kit Siang and Mahathir Mohamad

DAP (Democratic Action Party), who won a staggering 42 parliamentary seats, was largely responsible for bringing down the corrupt regime of Barisan Nasional (BN), of which UMNO was the dominant party. Had DAP been a component of BN instead, the racist UMNO-Malays would not call DAP as a racist party. There would be hugs and kisses instead.

In the same breath, UMNO and PAS refused to have DAP in the same unity government for a simple reason that the powerful DAP-Chinese would block, veto and protest any plans to enrich UMNO and PAS warlords with contracts, projects and Mercedes-Benz. UMNO, armed with 39 MPs, prefers to be the dominant party in a new government for obvious reason.

Therefore, the rejection of the so-called “racist DAP” in a new government is actually due to self-interest, greed and dominance desired by the corrupt UMNO-Malays and PAS-Muslims. If DAP was as corrupt as their despicable partner MCA, neither UMNO nor PAS would reject its presence – birds of the same feather flock together. It was just an excuse to accuse DAP of being racist.

Besides incorruptible DAP (in relative to UMNO), the real reason why UMNO and PAS withdrew their support for Mahathir is because big time crooks like Najib Razak, Zahid Hamidi, Tengku Adnan, Bung Moktar and Azeez Abdul Rahim will not only be prevented from becoming ministers, their criminal charges will proceed according to the law.

That was why an angry Annuar Musa said Mahathir must accept all MPs en bloc and not cherry pick certain MP individually to form a unity government. Essentially, that would mean crooks like Zahid Hamidi and Tengku Adnan must be made senior ministers in the Mahathir’s new administration. UMNO wanted Mahathir to close one-eye and drop all their criminal charges.

If Mahathir can accept those conditions – let bygones be bygones – then the old man can enjoy the support from UMNO’s 39 MPs and PAS’ 19 MPs. One of the UMNO warlords who received the privilege to meet Mahathir at his office on Tuesday was former UMNO vice-president and cousin to former premier Najib Razak – Hishammuddin Hussein.
PAS President Hadi Awang Meets Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad - RM90 Million Bribes
Dr.M and Hadi - RM400 mil deal?

It’s safe to predict that Mr Hishammuddin will most likely be roped in to be part of Mahathir’s new cabinet. He used to be one of the most racist UMNO leaders, brandishing his “Keris” (Malay dagger) and threatening minorities Chinese and Indians. However, after the BN did poorly in the 2008 general election, he apologised to all Malaysians for his action.

Hishammuddin was also tainted with alleged corruptions over and swap deals involving the Defence Ministry (Mindef) during his era. To Mahathir, however, Hishammuddin is considered the best of breed and in relative to his cousin Najib’s 1MDB scandal, the corruptions committed by the former defence minister (if there’s any) are minuscule and forgivable.

Mahathir’s cherry picking of the best candidates from across all political parties is arguably a great strategy to divide UMNO and PAS. By having MPs from the oppositions as ministers in a unity government, it would create a tricky situation for UMNO and PAS to condemn the new government unnecessary as it would be seen as a slap on its own face.

Malay Dignity Congress - Azmin Ali, Hadi Awang, Mahathir Mohamad and Annuar Musa

More importantly, a well-balanced composition of ministership from both sides of the political divide could reduce excessive politicking, racism and extremism so that political stability desired by investors can be created. A well run government, thus, will be bad news to opposition parties. Sure, a unity government might not be a cup of tea for everyone.

But based on the latest coup and the climate of radicalisation and extremism experienced by the country since May 2018, a unity government is perhaps the best medicine for the country, at least temporarily. If this recipe is a success, the political landscape will change again. Politicians will increasingly be evaluated and elected largely based on competency and maturity, and not political parties.

A new Pakatan Harapan 2.0 is in the making, and there’s nothing UMNO and PAS can do to stop it. Both Sarawak-based GPS (18 MPs) and Sabah-based Warisan (9 MPs) – the kingmakers – have thrown their support for Mahathir. Even traitor Azmin Ali has repeatedly assured of his gang of 11 traitors’ support for the old man. It’s incredible that even without a political party, Mahathir possesses the support of 63 MPs (including Bersatu’s 25 seats). - FT
