- astro awani
BTN camps are brainwashing hubs...
The Kem Biro Tatanegara (BTN) or National Civics Bureau camps are nothing more than brainwashing sessions to turn Malays into racists and bigots, Datuk S. Ambiga Sreenevasan said today.
The Negara-Ku patron said parents, whose children had attended the camps, were baffled by the objectives contained within the modules and things that were being taught.
"I have met several Malays who have attended these camps and they come out feeling disgusted and angry."
She was speaking during the “4th National Conference on Non-Discrimination: Unity and Social Cohesion in Malaysia – Making It Possible” in Kuala Lumpur.
"What does that tell you? Malays are being brainwashed into becoming racists and bigots while attending these national camps," Ambiga said.
The National Civics Bureau is under the purview of the Prime Minister's Office and camps are held regularly, especially for civil servants.
"I am disgusted with our leaders, they are not interested in tackling these issues. They are only interested in the politics of the issue.
"I have heard people say that this particular minister issues racist statements simply because he HAS to do it.
"What kind of an explanation is that? The blame lies entirely with our leaders, there are no excuses," Ambiga said.
"Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak appears to specialise in making fancy speeches when addressing the international community in the United Nations.
"But when it comes to walking the talk, Putrajaya fails miserably," she said to a loud round of applause from the audience.
"We are interested in national harmony, the rakyat are trying to achieve national harmony, but I am not sure that our leaders are."
She also criticised the police reports lodged against constitutional expert Professor Dr Abdul Aziz Bari, saying Malaysia was the land of police reports.
"Malaysia must be in the Guinness Book of Records for the largest number of useless police reports being lodged," Ambiga said.
"For giving his legal opinion, more than 100 reports are lodged against Aziz. Are you mad? Is this where you want to take the country?"
Ambiga said even the English would be embarrassed at the direction their colonial-era law was being taken to.
She expressed her incredulity when she read about reports that a group of influential Malays approached the Malay rulers to urge them not to repeal the Sedition Act.
"Words could not begin to express my feelings when I read about this meeting," Ambiga said, wondering what was the point of retaining the Act.
"Is it because we cannot detain people without trial any more? If the police force cannot function without these type of legislations, what does that tell you about the police?" – tmi
Pemenang pingat emas acara wushu gagal ujian doping...
Ketua kontinjen negara Datuk Daniyal Balagopal Abdullah berkata pihaknya akan mengemukakan rayuan berhubung dakwaan Majlis Olimpik Asia (OCA) bahawa atlet terbabit gagal ujian doping.
Malaysian wushu winner fails doping test at Asiad...
Tai, who won the women’s nanquan and nandao combined wushu, tested positive for the banned substance sibutramine after her event on Sept 20.
“The competitor has been disqualified from the competition as well as these Games and as such her accreditation cancelled and her medal withdrawn,” read the statement.
“These findings will now be forwarded to the competitor’s national authorities, the international federations of the sport concerned (Asian and International Wushu Federations) and the World Anti-Doping Agency for further action on their part as per sanctions concerning eligibility.”
The 22-year-old had claimed Malaysia’s first gold medal of the Games with her victory but that medal will now pass on to Juwita Niza Wasni of Indonesia. China’s Wei Hong moves into second with another Indonesian, Ivana Ardelia Irmanto, taking bronze.
Tai becomes the second athlete banned from the Games for taking sibutramine. Yi Sophany of Cambodia, a female soft tennis player, tested positive for the substance on Sept 16, three days before the Incheon Games officially opened.
Tajikistani footballer Khurshed Beknazarov was also expelled, having tested positive for methylhexaneamine.
OCA medical committee chairperson Dr M Jegathesan said on Saturday that 1,900 athletes would be tested during the course of the Games.
Malaysia to appeal against decision
Meanwhile, Bernama reports that the Malaysian contingent has not ‘lost’ the first gold medal won at the Incheon Asian Games through wushu, said chef-de-mission Daniyal Balagopal Abdullah despite claims from the OCA that the winner had failed a dope test.
Daniyal said Malaysia would send an appeal to the Olympic Council of Asia against the decision, especially to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) committee to express concern over the procedure.
“From the beginning we have questioned the way the sample was collected. I will meet the National Sports Institute’s chief executive officer Dr Ramlan Abdul Aziz and submit an appeal to the CAS by today,” he said in Incheon today.
According to Daniyal, since five urine samples were collected, including that of the Malaysian athlete, there could have been a mistake or mix up in the result.
“It was a very inordinate delay from the moment the sample was collected until it was handed to the lab. We will put up an appeal. We have spoken to the exponent and we believe she is innocent,” he said.- mk

Syndicate uses computer virus to break into ATMs, a first in Malaysia, say cops...
Bukit Aman's Cyber Crime and Multimedia Investigation deputy director SAC Mohd Kamarudin Md Din said this was the first time in Malaysia that a virus was used to steal money from ATMs.
Initial investigations revealed that the syndicate had used a virus known as ULSSN to disrupt the ATM system.
"We found it when we were going through the system. The virus had rebooted the ATM system and allowed the syndicate to withdraw money multiple times from the targeted machines," said Kamaruddin.
He said so far, seven cases involving two banks – a local and an international bank – have reported the breach over the weekend, with the latest two in Kota Damansara, Selangor and Malacca.
He said that with a large number of gang members, the syndicate was able to deploy accomplices to the three states to execute the heists simultaneously.
"Although the two cases in Malacca and Kota Damansara were only reported today, we believe the syndicate had carried out the theft around the same time during the weekend.
"This is because they knew that the bank and the authorities would already be on high alert once the thefts were detected. The bank would have boosted their security by then," said Kamaruddin.
He said a special task force has been set up to oversee the investigation into the cases reported so far.
"This is not the first time a virus was used to steal money from banking institutions. Similar cases have also been reported in other countries. This, however, is a first for Malaysia," he said.
Kamaruddin said police checks showed that the ATMs were infected when the syndicate member inserted a compact disc containing the virus into the computer system.
That was not the only thing the syndicate did as they were said to have used a SIM card as well as other high tech devices to carry out their plan.
It was understood that the virus was created only to override the ATM's system and not the other banking system and facilities.
Police said bank accounts, belonging to individuals, were intact.
It was reported earlier today that a total of RM1.271 million was stolen from six ATMs belonging to Affin Bank Berhad and Affin Islamic Bank Berhad in Johor, Malacca and Selangor.
The bank, in a statement, said their ATMs were tampered with on Saturday, resulting in cash being stolen from the machines.
The affected ATMs are located in Johor Baru, Batu Pahat and Taman Molek (all in Johor), Melaka Raya as well as PJ State and USJ in Selangor, the statement said.
So far, only Affin Bank has come forward to reveal the heists. – tmi
