Suruhanjaya Tinggi Britain di Malaysia, dalam kenyataan dikeluarkan di sini hari ini, berkata Setiausaha Negara bagi Pertahanan UK Philip Hammond memaklumkan perkara itu kepada Menteri Pertahanan dan Pemangku Menteri Pengangkutan Malaysia Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein menerusi telefon semalam.
"Dengan keupayaan melakukan pencarian di dalam air, kapal selam HMS Tireless akan dapat membantu dalam usaha untuk mengesan lokasi pesawat hilang itu.
"UK sentiasa berhubung rapat dengan pihak berkuasa Malaysia sejak kehilangan pesawat itu dan memberikan pelbagai bantuan," menurut kenyataan itu.
Kapal peninjau hidrografik pelbagai fungsi, HMS Echo, dijadual tiba di selatan Lautan HIndi untuk membantu misi pencarian itu, katanya.
"Selain membantu usaha mencari transponder pada kotak hitam, HMS Echo akan memainkan peranan penting dalam pencarian serpihan di permukaan air. Kecanggihan dan keupayaannya dalam menilai keadaan persekitaran juga akan membantu pihak berkuasa pencarian untuk mengoptimumkan operasi pencarian," menurut kenyataan itu.
Kerajaan UK juga membantu dengan meminjamkan pakar untuk memberikan bantuan teknikal dan keupayaan kepakaran dari Kementerian Pertahanan, Pejabat Hidrografik, Jabatan Pengangkutan dan Pejabat Meteorologi untuk membantu mengesan pesawat itu, katanya. Baca seterusnya...

MH370:Indahnya jika kapal selam kita berfungsi–Dr Asri...
Membaca berita negara-negara yang menghantar kapal selam mereka untuk membantu mencari MH370 terasa alangkah indahnya jika negara kita juga mempunyai kapal selam yang boleh berfungsi.Demikian tulis bekas Mufti Negeri Perlis, Datuk Dr Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin menerusi facebook beliau.
“Isu kapal selam negara telah lama kita dengar. Dalam keadaan seperti ini alangkah cantiknya jika ia dapat memberi sedikit sumbangan sepadan dengan harganya yang mahal,” ujarnya.
Menurutnya, walaupun ada yang berkata ia tidak sesuai kerana tidak seperti yang dimiliki oleh 'jiran sebelah', tapi jawapan itu tidak memberikan kebanggaan pada negara.

Probe leaves no mangosteen unturned...
Revealing this today, Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar said investigators have even identified who had plucked the fruits.
"For example, when we knew there was a load of mangosteens onboard, we had to find out where the mangosteens came from.
"We tracked down who plucked the fruits, who packed them and shipped them out, and who put them on the plane."Then we had to determine who would have received them in China and who paid for it, and for how much.
"Imagine how many people we must interview to rule out sabotage and that is just the mangosteens," he was quoted as saying by the Star.
According to the police chief, who revealed that the food served on the plane was also being scrutinised, the mangosteens came from an orchard in Muar, Johor.
Among the cargo manifest, the spotlight had previously fell on the 200kg of lithium-ion batteries, which are considered highly flammable and have contributed to aviation disasters in the past.
However, MAS chief executive officer Ahmad Jauhari Yahaya and acting Transport Minister Hishammuddin Hussein said the batteries were packed according to international regulations and considered non-hazardous.
In another report, Khalid said the MH370 mystery might never be solved.
"Investigations may go on and on and on. We have to clear every little thing… At the end of the investigations, we may not even know the real cause.
"We may not even know the reason for this incident," he was quoted as saying by the Associated Press.
The police chief had also disclosed that the 227 passengers on the missing Boeing flight had been cleared of the four elements - hijacking, sabotage as well as psychological and personal problems.
However, Khalid said the 12 crew, including the pilot and co-pilot, are still being probed. - mk

Investigators believe that plane's unusual flight path and manner of disappearance still point to a deliberate act.
Malaysian authorities have confirmed that “someone on the plane” was responsible for the disappearance of the missing Malaysia Airlines plane, as official sources outlined the reasons for believing the plane was sabotaged.
As the international team searching for the plane in the Indian Ocean warned the hunt could “drag on for a long time”, Malaysia’s government said that investigators still believe the disabling of the plane’s communications and its westward turn above the Gulf of Thailand were “deliberate”.
“The international investigations team and the Malaysian authorities remain of the opinion that, up until the point at which it left military primary radar coverage, MH370’s movements were consistent with deliberate action by someone on the plane,” said Hishammuddin Hussein, Malaysia’s acting transport minister.
Two official sources, who are close to the investigation but not authorised to comment publicly, said there were three main reasons that investigators believe the plane’s manoeuvres before it vanished on March 8 were intentional.
First, the communications were disabled during the handover between Malaysian and Vietnamese air traffic controllers - the moment at which its disappearance from radars was least likely to be noticed.
“That is the precise moment to disappear an aircraft - that was what was exploited,” a source told The Telegraph.
