High number of petitions enough for EC heads to roll...
85 election petitions and still counting, and this should be enough
reason for the Election Commission’s top duo Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof and
his deputy Wan Ahmad Wan Omar (pic) to resign.
The call was jointly made today by Pakatan Rakyat parties, whose statement was read out by PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim.
“Never in history, close to 90 election petitions have been proposed to be filed. This alone is enough for the EC chief and deputy’s heads to roll immediately for negligence and fraud in the election,” he said.
Anwar, who recently criss-crossed the country to address the well attended 'Blackout 505' rally series against electoral frauds during the 13th general election, said the coalition will soon file 35 election petitions
Not to be left out, Barisan Nasional is also planning to file 50 election petitions, despite its leaders urging the public to accept the election results which saw BN losing the popular votes.
Anwar meanwhile brushed off the proposal to put EC under a special parliamentary committee.
“It’s like after committing the robbery, we negotiate. We should be returning the stolen goods before any negotiation can take place,” said Anwar, giving an analogy.
Echoing him, PAS secretary general Mustafa Ali said the proposal to set up such a committee for EC was an attempt to divert public attention from the commission’s shortcomings.
“That’s why we don’t need it because EC must solve the problem arising from the people now,” he said.
The 35 election petitions include 18 from PKR, 14 from PAS and 3 from DAP. However, according to Mustafa, the final number has yet to be finalised.-harakahdaily
