SPRM siasat kenduri mega anak Ali Rustam...

Suruhanjaya Pencegahan Rasuah Malaysia (SPRM) telah memulakan siasatan terhadap Ketua Menteri Melaka Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam atas dakwaan rasuah ekoran penganjuran kenduri kahwin mega anak lelakinya.

"Kami sedang menyiasat... berapa banyak wang dibelanjakan dan siapa yang membayarnya. Kami akan teliti satu per satu," kata Timbalan Pesuruhjaya SPRM (Operasi) Mohd Shukri Abdull (kanan) ketika ditemui di Kuala Lumpur hari ini.

Beliau bagaimanapun tidak memberikan butiran lanjut kerana ia baru sahaja bermula.

Ketua Pemuda PKR Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin semalam membuat laporan kepada SPRM Melaka dengan membangkitkan kemampuan Mohd Ali menganjurkan majlis dengan kos setinggi RM600,000.

Naib Presiden PAS Datuk Mahfuz Omar dalam Parlimen juga mendakwa terdapat penglibatan agensi kerajaan negeri dan kerajaan tempatan dalam penganjuran majlis itu dan dana kerajaan digunakan tanpa bayaran.- malaysiakini

Kenduri: Sikit buat Ali terlalu banyak bagi rakyat...

Dewan Pemuda PAS Malaysia (DPPM) mendesak Suruhanjaya Pencegahan Rasuah Malaysia (SPRM) melakukan siasatan terperinci terhadap dakwaan bahawa agensi kerajaan negeri Melaka dikerahkan bagi menjayakan majlis perkahwinan anak sulung Ketua Menteri Melaka, Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam.

Dokumen mengandungi maklumat mesyuarat Perbadanan Kemajuan Negeri Melaka (PKNM) membincangkan persiapan logistik majlis perkhwinan tersebut telah dibocorkan oleh pihak tertentu.

Minit mesyuarat tersebut juga menyebut jabatan-jabatan kerajaan yang terlibat dan ia juga menyatakan tiada bil perlu dituntut daripada ketua menteri dan semuanya percuma.

Malah, DPPM dimaklumkan pihak Ketua Menteri itu mengakui majlis tersebut di taja sebanyak RM10 bagi setiap tetamu.

DPPM hairan bagaimana begitu istimewanya Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam di sisi kerajaan negeri.

Meskipun beliau adalah ketua negeri terbabit, ini tidak bermakna beliau boleh sesuka hati menggunakan agensi dan jabatan kerajaan negeri untuk keperluan dirinya.

Sepatutnya beliau menunjukkan contoh teladan kepada rakyat bahawa seorang pemimpin sanggup mengutamakan rakyat dari dirinya sendiri.

Majlis perkahwinan beliau adalah majlis peribadi yang perlu ditanggung oleh diri dan keluarganya sahaja, dan tidak perlu dibabitkan jabatan kerajaan di bawah tanggungannya.

Jika majlis itu ditaja, siapa pula penajanya dan adakah penaja majlisnya tiada kaitan langsung dengan projek kerajaan negeri?

Dalam keadaan rakyat yang masih ramai hidup di bawah paras kemiskinan, beliau pula sanggup menghabiskan enam ratus ribu ringgit untuk majlis selama lapan jam dengan kehadiran seramai 100,000 orang.

Mungkin bagi Datuk Seri Mohd Ali jumlah itu terlalu sedikit, namun ia terlalu banyak bagi rakyat jelata.

Apakah ini suatu manifestasi amalan wassatiyyah (bersederhana) seperti yang dilaungkan oleh Perdana Menteri?

DPPM bimbang amalan rasuah serta penyalahgunaan kuasa sudah menjadi suatu budaya pada pemimpin negara.

Amalan bershopping sakan, bermewah-mewahan serta mengadakan kenduri keluarga secara melampau seperti ini mengundang pembaziran di samping rasuah yang membarah.

Malah pemimpin-pemimpin negara dengan selamba menggunakan seluruh kuasa dan agensi di bawahnya untuk kepentingan peribadi mereka tanpa rasa bersalah.

Rakyat pula dikerah sehabis mungkin bekerja dan bertugas untuk majlis peribadi pemimpin sedangkan pemimpin tidak pernah memikirkan masalah rakyat di bawahnya.

SPRM perlu membuktikan mereka benar-benar telus, tegas dan amanah dalam melaksanakan tugas yang dipertanggungjawabkan. Membanteras rasuah bukan hanya setakat kepada rakyat bawahan, tetapi mesti dimulakan dari pemimpin atasan.

MACC probing Malacca CM over mega kenduri...

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) said they have begun investigating Malacca Chief Minister Mohd Ali Rustam for alleged corruption over the massive wedding banquet for his son.
"We are investigating... how much money was spent and who paid for it. We are going item by item,” said MACC deputy chief commissioner (operations) Mohd Shukri Abdull (right) when met today in Kuala Lumpur.

However, he could not provide further details, saying that the investigations have only begun.

PKR Youth chief Shamsul Iskandar Md Akin lodged a report with MACC yesterday, following Mohd Ali's admission that RM600,000 was spent to fete 130,000 guests at the wedding on Sept 30.

PAS' Pokok Sena MP Mahfuz Omar had on Wednesday revealed in Parliament that minutes of a meeting chaired by Malacca State Development Corporation (PKNM) chief executive officer Yusof Jantan showed that state agencies had “sponsored” several aspects of the wedding.
 
'Copgate an old matter'

Meanwhile, when asked about the allegations of corruption and underworld links against former inspector-general of police (IGP) Musa Hassan, Shukri (left) briefly said that is “benda lama (an old matter)”.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Mohd Nazri Abdul Aziz, in a written reply in parliament last week, said that neither the police or the MACC are probing the matter.

He said that is because no reports were lodged with either agencies on the matter, but this was disputed by former Commercial Crimes Investigations Department (CCID) chief Ramli Yusuff.

“I lodged a few reports, but (they were) conveniently ‘NFA’ed (marked ‘no further action’) by the (Attorney-General) AG’s Chambers,” Ramli told Malaysiakini.

Asked about the fates of three MACC officers named by the Royal Commission of Inquiry on the death of DAP political aide Teoh Beng Hock, who were suspended pending an internal probe, Mohd Shukri said that it is out of his jurisdiction.

“You have to check with (deputy chief commissioner in charge of management and professionalism) Zakaria Jaafar,” he said.- malaysiakini

The tackiest wedding of the year...

The award for the tackiest wedding of the year should go to Malacca Chief Minister Ali Rustam, who treated his son and daughter-in-law as goods and touted their wedding in a sponsorship deal.

The newlyweds have been propelled into the glare of publicity, for the wrong reasons. Cynics will make fun of them and say that instead of the usual marriage vows, the groom, Mohd Ridhwan, will have said, “I accept Nur Azieha’s hand in marriage, with the mas kahwin of an undisclosed amount, provided for by the taxpayer.”

As a true blue-blood Umnoputra, Ali Rustam is more concerned about image, much like his mentor Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak. The CM lacks humility, and has no respect for the sanctity of the marriage union. Many aspects of the wedding smack of corrupt dealings. The CM has, in the past, faced allegations of “money politics”.

To accept sponsorship for his son’s wedding is degrading, but Ali is neither the first, nor last. Over the years, many other social climbers and celebrities have paraded a variety of products from cup noodles to chocolates.

With rumours circulating that Ali is seeking an important role in the Umno hierarchy, he was prepared to politicise his son’s wedding, and gain brownie points. The wedding chariot, the beca, was decked with tinselled “1Malaysia” cut-outs – tasteless shows of allegiance which doubtless, will have gone down well with Najib.

Behind the scenes, it is possible that one or more companies have offered to “sponsor” the newlyweds on an all-expenses-paid-honeymoon in an exotic idyll.

The truth is that Ali is a cheapskate. He knows that in this day and age of keeping up with the Joneses, he could not be content with a quiet family affair. Grand weddings do not come cheap.

As he was unable to sell the rights to his son’s wedding to the celebrity gossip magazine “OK!” then perhaps, in his opinion, local companies would suffice. Anything to get free goods and services. Umno politician = Freeloader.

Out of touch with reality

Most sensible parents treat the wedding of their children as a joyous and memorable occasion, but Ali treats his son’s wedding like a conveniently prepared “3-in-1” coffee drink: the sweetener equals the companies and government departments providing free goods or services; the creamer equals the gifts from the businesses desperate to kowtow to Ali. These are pre-mixed with the coffee powder (the wedding couple). The guests, all 130,000 of them, equal the hot water. All the CM has to do is to add hot water to the 3-in-1 mix, except this time, Ali has found himself in hot water.

Austerity measures are a necessary part of our lives and many Malaysians struggle to feed their families. Ali is unaffected by increased costs of basic goods, petrol and services. He is reported to have said that the wedding was “cheap to organise”, and has hit back at his critics calling them “spiteful and jealous”.

Ali is far removed from reality. He wants to impress with his wealth and described the RM600,000 bill as “cheap”. Perhaps, it is cheap and “not extravagant” by Umno standards. One fears to think what Umno politicians consider “expensive”. Is Ali aware that some Malaysians earn less than RM600,000 a year?

The hefty bill raises two questions: First. How does a CM on the government payroll, have access to such sums of money? 

Second. He is a public official and in any civilized part of the world, free lunches must be declared to the body which monitors gratuities given to public servants.

Malaysians are weary of their public officials stealing the taxpayers’ money. The amount of government agencies and businesses “sponsoring” the wedding reception is a conflict of interest. What did they get in exchange for providing goods and services?

People who see nothing wrong with Ali’s misappropriation of public funds must know that there is no such thing as a free lunch.

Neither Ali nor his colleagues in Umno understand the meaning of “conflict of interest”. Ali brushed aside claims of corruption. He takes his cue from Najib who misused taxpayers’ money when he allegedly flew close friends and family to Kazakhstan for an “official meeting”. It was alleged that Najib and his entourage had attended the engagement party of his daughter to the nephew of the Kazakhstan president.

Show of extravagance

In Malacca, some individuals see nothing wrong in what Ali did, because they believe that his private affairs are his business. Do these people think it acceptable for Ali to use government facilities, equipment and manpower? Will the Malacca government accord the same privileges to ordinary members of the public?

Umno politicians have grown to like the power they wield and the wealth they accrue once they are in office. They have also grown brash and arrogant and are desensitised to the suffering of Malaysians. Ali and his colleagues know that there will be no probe into their accumulated wealth, nor for their abuse of the system. The law and its enforcement agencies serve them.

The wedding is the rakyat’s blessing in disguise. It has opened our eyes, especially of those who still claim Umno is their champion.

The other significance of this wedding is that it is an indication of the dwindling support for Umno. Umno has been abusing the system for several decades. In the past, we just kept quiet. Today, our anger is aroused.

Never before has a wedding been such a flop. Instead of talking about the radiance of the bride, and how happy the couple look, we are discussing the alleged corruption of the father of the groom, and whether the nasi minyak cost RM4, RM40 or RM400? Does any girl want to be known as the “KR1M” bride (Kedai Runcit “1Malaysia”)?

People who abuse the system, know who their friends are, when the time comes to face corruption charges. If businesses are prepared to finance their private events today, will the same business leaders help post bail for them, when the inevitable crunch comes?

Let this show of extravagance be a lesson to Ali and other Umno bigwigs. Malaysians refuse to bankroll Umno and their excesses any more. Malaysians will help expose and question such abuses. They will demand answers. The time has come. The worm has turned.-Mariam Mokhtar,FMT
