Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad mencabar Datuk Seri Najib Razak mendedahkan akaun banknya selepas perdana menteri menafikan dakwaan The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) yang sejumlah AS$700 juta (RM2.67 bilion) dipindahkan ke akaun peribadi beliau sejak Mac 2013.
Najib menafikan menggunakan wang syarikat milik kerajaan Strategic Resources Corporation (SRC) untuk "kegunaan peribadi" dan menghantar surat tindakan undang-undang kepada akhbar perniagaan Amerika Syarikat itu berhubung laporannya.
"Anda kata anda nafikan, tunjukkan akaunnya," kata Dr Mahathir kepada stesen televisyen British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) dalam wawancara disiarkan hari ini.
Ia merupakan kenyataan pertama Dr Mahathir selepas pendedahan WSJ Jumaat lalu, walaupun beliau banyak menulis di blognya mengenai kehidupan mewah Najib dan meminta pihak berkuasa percukaian menyiasat kekayaan perdana menteri itu.
Wall Street Journal (WSJ) melaporkan AS$11.1 juta (RM42 juta) daripada SRC dipindakan antara beberapa syarikat berkaitan kerajaan sebelum akhirnya dimasukkan ke 2 akaun peribadi Najib di AmBank Kuala Lumpur antara Disember 2014 dan Februari tahun ini.
Pemindahan lebih besar sebanyak AS$681 juta dikatakan dibuat kepada akaun Najib melalui 2 transaksi pada Mac 2013, sebelum pilihan raya pada Mei tahun sama. Wang itu daripada syarikat British di Kepulauan Virgin.
Dr Mahathir memberitahu BBC, amat mudah jika Najib hendak membuktikan dirinya tidak bersalah.
"Dia ada semua akaun bank itu, dia hanya perlu arahkan 'kamu sila tengok dan siasat akaun saya'.
"Kenapa dia tak jawab dakwaan yang dibuat terhadapnya? Bila orang dakwa dia melakukan sesuatu, dia hanya kata itu mengarut dan tak betul," katanya.
Dr Mahathir beberapa kali menggesa Najib meletakkan jawatan, memberi tekanan kepada beliau dan menyebabkan ahli Umno berpecah akibat kepimpinan presiden parti itu.
Mereka yang setia kepada Najib menggesa siasatan perlu dilakukan terlebih dahulu, manakala unit propaganda kerajaan Jabatan Hal Ehwal Khas (Jasa) berkata, dakwaan WSJ itu merupakan sebahagian komplot antarabangsa untuk menyerang kempimpinan Malaysia. – tmi

"When people charge him with something, he says it is a plot. Nonsense, it's not true. Prove that it is not true. It is very easy for him to prove it is not true.
"He
has these bank accounts, all he has to do is say: 'you examine my
accounts, you look at it'," Mahathir said in an interview with UK-based BBC that was aired this morning.This is the first time Mahathir has publicly weighed in on Najib's position after The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported last Friday that US$700 million of 1MDB's funds was deposited into Najib's private bank accounts with Ambank.
Najib has since denied that he had taken government funds for personal gain and accused Mahathir of working "hand in glove" with foreigners to create a political crisis.
He also accused Mahathir of wanting to oust him for not fulfilling his wishes.
However, Mahathir said mere denials were insufficient.
"The proof of the pudding is in the eating. You say you deny, but let's see the accounts," he said.
‘All this is about money that has been borrowed’
Mahathir also denied that he was working with the foreign media to make allegations against Najib.
"All this about the money that has been borrowed and all these shenanigans that followed - is something that I read in the foreign press and I confirmed by asking local people.
"I did not work with the foreign press," he said in the interview.
Mahathir also addressed accusations that he was out to oust Najib for not following his wishes, stating that the prime minister had made some promises to him but that they were "minor things".
"I didn't ask him why he didn't do what he promised to do, which is to build the (crooked) bridge and continue the railway line.
"That is a minor thing to me, if you don't want. Every prime minister has a right to have his own policies," he said.
Mahathir has been Najib's fiercest critic over his handling of the Finance Ministry-owned 1MDB, which has accumulated RM41.8 billion in debt. Najib is also finance minister.- mk

Akhirnya Pasukan Petugas Khas sudah mengeluarkan perintah pembekuan terhadap enam akaun bank dipercayai pihak yang terbabit dalam kes itu.
Mengapa nama pemilik akaun tersebut dirahsiakan?. Kalau didedahkan SUDAH TENTU 'dia' akan direhatkan/ bercuti buat seketika sementara menunggu siasatan dan rakyat akan tahu.
Sepertimana dalam kes MARA mereka yang terlibat (nama didedahkan) telah direhatkan bagi bantu siasatan.

AG told the nation the offices of SRC have been raided. Which one- SRC International Sb, ihsan Perdana Sb, Gandingan Mentari Sb? All of them?
Strange, none of the mainstream newspapers covered the raid. Why? No one told them like the arrest of Justo in Thailand? By the way, my sources say- no one media from Malaysia were allowed to see Justo. No media people from Malaysia were allowed to interview Justo. So the pictures about the arrest were borrowed and touched upon. Same like being tampered.
We ask for proof in the form of pictures. Has anyone thought about the possibility of the statement being issued by the AG is to calm people and placate anger?
No rush on AMbank? Bank Negara? The raid if ever took place, isn’t complete without covering Ambank and Bank Negara. Who took part? PDRM, SPRM, AG, Auditor General’s Office, UTK in ski masks? There’s no tweet from the IGP? Horrors!
I am not sure if raids were actually carrried out on the offices related to SRC.
In view of the absence of solid evidence, we must assume that in the month of March 2013, RM2.6 billion were transferred into the PM’s personal account at AMbank. The huge fund was subsequently used to finance BN’s elections.
The question then, what is the status of seats won?
They were won using money. That’s how UMNO won many of its seats anyway. Money was used to pay candidates, bribed voters and maybe greased officials. That would make the government of Najib a government funded by bribery.
In the outlying polling stations where opposition parties do not have the resources to oversee polling, they have to depend on the officials placed there by the EC. These people can be paid to count every vote as that casted for BN.
Morally this would make Najib’s government an illegitimate government. It also confirms that the Najib government is a corrupt government. Yet, with all the money, BN could not win the popular votes. It won on technicalities. This fact seemed to be lost on the cocky BN legislators. They do not represent the majority of voters in Malaysia. - sakmongkol ak47

Using reverse psychology, Najib Razak today rubbished claims he had stolen 1Malaysia Development Bhd’s (1MDB) funds, saying that if he wanted to do so, he would not have placed the money in a bank account in Malaysia. Well, that was one smart way to put it, although not clever enough.
Surely we must have heard that the most dangerous place is often the safest place to hide valuables, and vice versa. So, it’s not stupid at all to keep ill-gotten money in the country. People will never guess that you actually keep cash inside your pillow, simply because it was a stupid thing to do in the first place. But that’s precisely where many keep it.
In the case of RM2.62 billion pumped into Najib’s personal account at Ambank, that’s the safest place on Earth, safer than in any foreign banks, including Switzerland. Why? Although the supposedly safe and tax havens such as Cayman Islands or Switzerland were great place to hide dirty money, they’re not actually very safe.
Supposing if these foreign financial institutions decide to “songlap” (rob) all your ill-gotten money entrusted to them, you’re practically vulnerable and can’t do anything. Do you sue them at the international court and cry that they’ve robbed your billions of dollars, which was accumulated illegally in the first place? Get the juice?
Hence, for Najib to play such a toddler reverse mindset game is like saying a rapist couldn’t have raped his own daughter in their own house because it would be such a dumb thing to do. One has to remember that as the prime minister of Malaysia, he’s the most powerful person in the country, more powerful than Obama and Queen Elizabeth combined.
The point is – Malaysia is the safest place for UMNO warlords to keep their ill-gotten money, until such time they lose power. After all, if they could erase immigration records as and when they wish, which local institution is not under their command? While DAP may have repeatedly proclaimed that Pakatan Rakyat is "dead", the party does not rule out the possibility of teaming up with PAS in the future.
Asked whether DAP and PAS would form an alliance, for their fourth time, in the next general election, veteran DAP leader Lim Kit Siang said it was a possibility.
However, PAS would first have to show commitment towards Pakatan's common policy framework.
"It is not for me to rule out anybody. The basic principle is that PAS has to be committed to the common policy framework of Pakatan.
"If PAS is not prepared for this, I don't think it will be in the picture," Lim said in an interview with Malaysiakini last Thursday.In the 1980s, DAP teamed up with PAS as Gagasan Rakyat, and then again as Barisan Alternatif in the late 1990s. In 2008, the two parties, along with PKR, formed Pakatan Rakyat.
Unlike the loose coalitions in the past, Pakatan in December 2009 designed its common policy framework that was signed by Lim, PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim and PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang.
Over the past year, DAP has been arguing that PAS' renewed pursuit of implementing hudud, the Islamic penal system, which would alter the core of Malaysia's criminal justice system, was a betrayal of the common policy document.
In reaction to DAP's constant criticism, PAS resolved at its recent annual delegates meeting, the 61st party muktamar, that its leaders cut ties with DAP.
With that, DAP concluded that PAS had effectively announced the "death" of Pakatan.
Lim said that as a coalition, Pakatan had ceased to function effectively a year ago, after the coalition's top leaders were unable sit together for meetings.
‘Think of the unthinkable’
DAP has for long been complaining about Abdul Hadi's non-attendance at the Pakatan leadership council meetings, since his representatives are not authorised to decide on Pakatan's collective decisions.
In declaring that Pakatan was dead, Lim, who has 50 years of politics under his belt, went on to moot the formation of a new "post-BN, post-Pakatan" coalition to "Save Malaysia".
This suggestion came five days after Hadi (photo) tabled a Private Member’s Bill in the Dewan Rakyat, seeking the amendment of laws preventing Kelantan from implementing hudud.Elaborating on the idea, Lim said Malaysians must envision a new political scenario, citing the example of how some countries can, after an election, have different coalitions at the federal and state levels.
"We had in Europe different situations at the national and state levels, coalitions with contracts for a period…. so, we will see how things can work out here in Malaysia," he said.
Asked about the recent meeting among PKR, DAP and former PAS office bearers - the group that has been described as "progressives", the G18 or Harapan Baru - at which the possibility of a "Pakatan 2.0" was raised, Lim said he was not privy to the discussions.
He said at this stage, he wasn't sure what a new coalition, which DAP would be part of, would look like.
"This is not something everyone can plan or try to bring about. This is something we have to wait, for further developments.
"Pakatan was people-driven. Similarly, if there is a new alignment of political forces, it must be people-driven as well, rather than leader- or party-driven," he noted.
No more 'master race'
In April 2008, in the 12th general election, Pakatan was formed weeks after DAP, PKR and PAS caused BN the loss of its traditional two-thirds majority in Parliament, for the first time since 1969.
Lim said that although Pakatan was no more, the hopes and aspirations signalled by the voters, back in 2008, was still very relevant and achievable.
"It is not a complete loss cause," he said.
"A
very easy platform is to go back to Pakatan's common policy framework
as a basis to defending the Federal Constitution, featuring fundamental
principles, ensuring justice, freedom, democracy and good governance as a
starting point."(For the new coalition) there is no Ketuanan Melayu. There is no master race or master religion."
The new political entity should open to all like-minded parties and individuals, even the progressives in Umno, Lim added.
However, Lim declined to comment if G18 or Harapan Baru should state their stand on hudud before deciding to be part of the new coalition.
"I don't think it is anybody's business in order to say what the party should or should not do. We will come to an issue when it arises," he said.
‘At least we were honest’
On whether Pakatan had wasted a good opportunity of taking Putrajaya by dissolving the coalition, Lim disagreed.
He pointed out that both Pakatan and BN were in a disarray. Thus Putrajaya was still ripe for the picking."I don't agree on that theory at all. Although I believe there will be setbacks, but there is no such thing as the opposition spoiling its own chances.
"Looking back, this may be the best for the country. At least the issues have been clarified, and there is a greater sense of candour and honesty about it."
Asked if PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim was still DAP's choice for the post of prime minister, should an opposition coalition win the elections, Lim replied in the positive.
However, he did not want to be drawn into discussions on whether Anwar’s wife Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail could serve as a replacement.
"Well, he is still in the picture, he is still very much in the picture, although he is in the Sungai Buloh Prison," Lim said. - mk
