DCA enggan dedah identiti penumpang misteri...
Info on MH370 imposters could compromise probe...
As questions persist about two imposters who boarded the missing Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370, the Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) is adamantly against releasing any information which could compromise investigations.
"We will not reveal too much on the two passengers as it is under investigation and any information I give you might jeopardise the investigation that is going on," director-general Azharuddin Abdul Rahman (in brown shirt) told a press conference at Sama-Sama Hotel, KL International Airport this afternoon.
Italian Luigi Maraldi and Austrian Christian Kozel were listed as passengers on the flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing, in the manifest released by Malaysia Airlines (MAS).
However, both the Italian and Austrian foreign ministries have denied that the duo were on the flight, adding that their passports had been reported stolen in Thailand over the last two years.
Southern China Airlines, which has a code-sharing arrangement with MAS, has confirmed that two tickets were purchased using the stolen passports. Payment was made in Thai baht and the serial number was consecutive, suggesting that these were bought together.
Azaharuddin said information on the two imposters will only be released once the DCA receives a report from the investigation team.
"The investigation team is now, even as we speak, going through all the records and video footage. Once we get any reports, we will inform you about what has been gathered by the team of experts investigating the two passengers," he said.
Pressed as to whether the authorities will at least release photographs of the two suspicious passengers, Azaharuddin replied: "We have to first discuss with the investigating officers and relevant agencies.”
'KLIA security up to world standards'
Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had yesterday revealed that the two passengers have “Asian features”.
He promised action against immigration officers who did not detect this as the duo were using passports issued to Europeans.
However, Azaharuddin declined to elaborate on this and refused to comment on whether there was a lapse in security.
He also declined to say whether security has since been boosted at KLIA, saying that it is already on par with international standards.
In a separate development, Azharuddin said members of the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) arrived in Kuala Lumpur today and will provide assistance in the investigation.
British and Australian aviation agencies have similarly offered help, he added.
MAS chief executive officer Ahmad Jauhari Yahya said the airline has offered to immediately fly two next-of-kin of each Chinese national on Flight MH370 to Kuala Lumpur.
"Another three (members of their families) will be flown in later," he said.- malaysiakini
