"Kami ingat ia hanya ugutan biasa sahaja. Jadi kami teruskan.

Undergrads 'threatened with machete' in Pekan

'Malaysians of Indonesian origin threatened to continue voting for BN'...

A former bank manager who was once based in Kota Kinabalu during the mid eighties has decided to make public the role he played in the so-called 'Project IC' to dish out citizenship to immigrants in exchange for votes.

Speaking to Harakahdaily, Mat Swadi Awi, who worked at Bank Pertanian Malaysia, claimed that the same clandestine exercise which has been exposed by the ongoing Sabah Royal Commission of Inquiry had also been carried out in Johor.

“In Johor, they (new citizens) were briefed why they were given blue ICs or Malaysian citizenship  - because UMNO needed their votes to ensure victory," said Mat Swadi.

He said a prolonged 'brainwashing' campaign had managed to frighten these IC bearers into believing that the Chinese would deny them rights in the event of a Barisan Nasional defeat.

“The May 13 (1969) tragedy was also raised to frighten the Indonesians bearing Malaysian ICs. They were also threatened that if they did not vote for UMNO-BN, the Election Commission would track down their ballot papers and their citizenship could be revoked,” said Mat Swadi.

But Mat Swadi pointed out Indonesians who are now Malaysians have faced various unjust actions by the BN government despite a desperate need for their votes.

“Indonesians who have become Malaysian citizens through the Project IC must realise that they have been used by UMNO. They must reject UMNO in this coming election to regain their dignity,” added Mat Swadi.

Mat Swadi claimed that he had acted as a catalyst behind the Project IC in Sabah along with the late USNO president, Datu Mustapha Datu Harun. He said it was part of former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s plan to oust Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) and bring UMNO to Sabah.

“It was because Mahathir was challenged by the speculation that PBS had the intention of seceding Sabah out of Malaysia," he said.

Anwar and Pak Lah

Mat Swadi, who describes himself as a former loyalist to Abdullah Badawi, also dismissed claims that Abdullah and opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim had been involved in Project IC during the late 1980s.

“In fact, Abdullah had asked me two months ago whether Anwar was involved in Project IC, but I had strongly stressed that Anwar was not involved because all in UMNO knew Anwar was not on good terms with the late Megat Junid (Megat Ayub, former deputy Home Minister) and Aziz Shamsudin (Mahathir’s former aide),” he said.

He also said that Datu Mustapha was not happy with Anwar, "so how could Anwar be involved in this Project IC?” he asked

Mat Swadi said he had yet to be called to testify at the RCI despite being listed as witness.- harakahdaily
