A taxi driver whose identity card has allegedly been used by an Indonesian has sparked fears that foreigners with such documents will be allowed to vote in the upcoming general election.
The concern was raised by Human Rights Action Force (Hindraf) de facto leader P Uthayakumar in Kuala Lumpur today when he brought forward a Malaysian, Rodzi Mohd Noor, 41, whose identity card (IC) was stolen in 2000.
Since then, Rodzi, whose IC number is 710630-03-5627, has received suspicious outstanding traffic compounds issued to his name but not his vehicle.
When he got a driving licence in 2006, he again found that the address stated on the licence was in Kuala Selangor, Selangor; whereas his official address at that time was in Rantau Panjang, Kelantan.
“When I asked the Road Transport Department’s (JPJ) officials, they told me they were just following the records of the National Registration Department (JPN),” he said.
His suspicion over forged identity grew when he found himself blacklisted by telecommunication provider Digi in 2010.
Last year, with the assistance of a JPJ official in Padang Jawa, he managed to trace the information of an individual named Rodzi Mhd Noor, who has almost the same name but the same IC number as himself.
“The only difference is that my name is Rodzi Mohd Noor, his name is Rodzi Mhd Noor, and he stayed in Kuala Selangor,” he said.
In a bid to clarify the matter, the JPJ official has travelled to Kuala Selangor with Rodzi and confirmed with the man’s neighbour that that “Rodzi” is an Indonesian.
A check on the Election Commission’s website found that the “Malaysian Rodzi” is on the electoral roll, but it remains unclear whether the “Indonesian Rodzi” is entitled to vote.
Rodzi has lodged several police reports on the matter and filed a complaint with the JPN last year, to no avail.
JPN has a hand in this, alleges Uthaya
Uthayakumar said the case has showed clear indications that JPN officials are involved in issuing ICs to Indonesians because the “Indonesian Rodzi” has a record in JPN.
“If it is just another syndicate the JPN would not have a record of his address,” he said.
He urged the JPN to come forward and explain the matter within 48 hours, as there might be a “serious” widespread forged identities in the JPN records.
“The next general election will be a tight fight, we don’t want the process to be rigged and the Indonesians are allowed to influence the outcome of the election,” he said.
The party will also write to the prime minister, home minister and director-general of JPN to highlight the issue.- malaysiakini

"Saya percaya jika kerajaan Umno BN layan dakwaan saya, ia akan menjadi malapetaka besar kepada Umno BN dan akan menjadi 'api membakar diri mereka sendiri'," katanya kepada Harakahdaily.
Tambahnya, sikap membisu kerajaan itu sekali gus mewajarkan Yang DiPertuan Agong perlu membentuk Suruhanjaya Diraja dengan segera bagi meneliti dakwaannya itu.
"Sikap diam diri ini juga memperkukuhkan cadangan yang telah dibuat oleh PSC dalam laporan awal di mana mencadangkan Suruhanjaya Diraja bagi menyelesaikan kes yang sama di peringkat negeri Sabah.
"Sekarang ini bukan lagi menjadi isu yang terpencil di Sabah tetapi isu nasional," katanya.
Pendedahan wujudnya 'task force' oleh Ahli Parlimen Pokok Sena itu seharusnya dipandang serius oleh kerajaan.
Namun, selepas seminggu ianya didedahkan, sehingga kini kerajaan belum memberi sebarang respons terhadap dakwaan Mahfuz itu.
Mahfuz juga, bersedia mendedahkan butiran terperinci dakwaannya itu kepada Suruhanjaya Diraja yang akan dibentuk nanti. - Harakahdaily.
