The assets declared and revealed yesterday by the 11 Penang state executive council (exco) members, including Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng (pix), comprised properties, fixed deposits, shares, unit trusts and motor vehicles they owned as at Dec 31 last year and March 8, 2008.
However, there was no mention of how much they earned, with the statements only listing where their income comes from. The audit was conducted on a pro bono basis by accounting company KPMG which was appointed to the task in January.
At a press conference during which the list was distributed, Lim said the public declaration of the exco's assets had fulfilled the personal obligation and political commitment of the Pakatan Rakyat-led state government.
"We hold positions of public trust. So, when we hold positions of public trust, we feel that we have a direct responsibility (to the public)," he said. An announcement will be made today on how the information can be accessed online.
