Mungkin ada sebilangan pihak yang percaya Pilihan Raya Umum ke-14 (PRU14) kali ini akan memperlihatkan bagaimana UMNO – Barisan Nasional (BN) berjaya diselamatkan oleh parti pembangkang yang tidak bersama Pakatan Harapan khususnya PAS.
Ada juga teori yang mendakwa BN mampu kekal memerintah meskipun berlakunya pertembungan tiga penjuru jika PAS dapat mengekalkan sokongan pengundinya dan mendapat undi dari mereka yang membenci Najib.
Namun, adakah tindak-tanduk PAS yang selama ini dilihat semakin mesra UMNO-BN benar-benar mampu menyelamatkan parti yang lebih enam dekad memegang tampuk kuasa itu?
Adakah PAS benar-benar semakin kuat sebagaimana yang dicanangkan pemimpin-pemimpinnya selama ini dengan mengumumkan meletakkan calon-calon mereka di kerusi yang ditandingi HARAPAN?
Menurut Ahli Parlimen Kluang, Liew Chin Tong, situasi politik saat ini memperlihatkan PAS sebenarnya tidak mampu menyelamatkan UMNO pada PRU14.
Malah, PAS juga dilihat bimbang dengan kedudukannya yang semakin lemah di Kelantan.
Tambahan lagi apabila rakyat biasa -pengundi yang tidak menyukai Najib menyedari bahawa Presiden PAS, Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang dilihat melakukan apa yang direstui Najib.
“Malah jika PAS masih menjadi faktornya, PAS masih tidak mampu menyelamatkan UMNO di Kedah, Johor dan Sabah,” katanya dalam kenyataan baru-baru ini.
Bagi Kedah katanya, Pakatan Rakyat kalah enam kerusi dalam 2013 berbanding 2008 dan sokongan Melayu kepada Barisan Nasional (BN) meningkat 6 peratus atas faktor Mukhriz Mahathir dan Tun Dr Mahathir dan sentimen anti Azizan Razak (Menteri Besar ketika itu).
Lain pula keadaannya sekarang apabila faktor Mukhriz-Mahathir berada di pihak Pakatan Harapan (PH).
“Faktor PAS tidak begitu penting di situ (Kedah). Terdapat kemungkinan realistik bahawa BN akan kalah antara tujuh dan 10 kerusi Parlimen di Kedah.
Bagi negeri Johor, daripada 26 kerusi Parlimen, HARAPAN kini memiliki enam kerusi iaitu Bersatu 1, PKR1 dan DAP 4.
“Daripada baki 20 kerusi, 10 daripadanya adalah kerusi marginal dalam 2013, dan Ayer Hitam bukan dalam senarai pada waktu itu tetapi sekarang ia adalah kerusi kompetitif biarpun sukar.

Another law to imprison the rakyat?
Anxious about his remote chance of winning the upcoming general election, our emperor asked his team if they could enact legislation whereby the purveyors of “fake news” could be fined up to RM500,000 or face a jail term of up to 10 years.
No one has seen the draft of the proposed law, but BN leaders talk about the new law all the time. At the same time, they talk about enhancing the sentences currently under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act (CMA).
BN does not seem satisfied that under the existing Section 233 of the CMA, Malaysians who make public speeches during the election, who post their comments or send tweets that displease the government, can end up in jail, like what happened to Fahmi Reza for sketching a clown.
It’s impossible to know what upsets the prime minister; or what “fake news” means. It seems that to the BN, whatever they say, whether the late Karpal Singh was paid by Anwar Ibrahim RM50 million to bribe the judges; or DAP will destroy the Malays is not fake. Whatever Najib Abdul Razak (photo) says is not fake either.
The Prime Minister’s Department and the Communications and Multimedia Commission are not interested in providing an objective test to determine what is and isn’t fake, and are certainly not interested in having the attorney-general explain how he proposes to implement this law fairly.
If the BN manifesto says Dr Mahathir Mohamad is not a Malay or did nothing for the development of this country, that is not fake news. But if Pakatan Harapan were to say Najib was the architect of 1MDB and is, therefore, a dangerous leader for us to have, then that’s upsetting to him and therefore fake.
Harapan then can be charged under the present Section 233 as well as under the new law. This is a bad news – any way you look at it – and it must be opposed.
