PAS today refused to confirm or deny reports that its former Selangor chief Hasan Ali(left) will be dropped as a candidate in the next general election. Party president Abdul Hadi Awang (right) said the front page report by Mingguan Malaysia, the weekend edition of Utusan Malaysia, was erroneous.
He said that the party has yet to scrutinise the candidates that would be fielded and hinted that it would only be done once polls are called.
"We haven't even looked at the list of candidates," Hadi told a press conference in Kuala Lumpur today.
Mingguan Malaysia reported that the Selangor PAS leadership had "dropped" Hasan as a candidate and the central committee had endorsed the decision.
DAP blamed again
Earlier, Malaysiakini reported that Hasan had failed to secure enough nominations from party branches in order to be considered as a candidate.
This was confirmed by Selangor PAS secretary Saari Sungib. However, the PAS central leadership today refused comment on this.
"The matter does not arise. Even we don't know if we will be fielded as candidates or not," said PAS deputy president Mohamad Sabu, who was also at the press conference.
The Mingguan Malaysia report puts the weight of the blame of Hasan's alleged axing on the DAP, an Umno's primary target of late.
"Mingguan Malaysia understands that Hasan's axing as a PAS candidate is linked to allegations which said that the Gombak Setia state assemblyperson is the thorn in the flesh for Selangor PAS and the opposition alliance, particularly DAP," read the report.
The report also retraced several incidents in Selangor that saw Hasan crossing swords with Selangor PAS and DAP, including his tiff with fellow state cabinet member Ronnie Liu over the sale of alcohol in convenience stores.
