Orang jahat dah bebas ibu...

No remand, but Nurul Izzah's ordeal not over...

Lembah Pantai MP Nurul Izzah Anwar has been freed on police bail after spending a night in police detention.

However, she will have to report back to the police on April 16.

"I think its quite clear that my arrest is a blatant abuse of power by none other than the IGP and Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

"The prime minister is responsible for allowing transgressions against Parliament," Nurul Izzah told reporters after her release.

She said Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar (right) should be focusing on arresting hardcore criminals, instead of arresting dissenting voices.

She was also informed that her sister Nurul Nuha Anwar would be questioned next.

"Nurul Nuha will be questioned next and no one can escape this abuse by the IGP. He should be focusing on getting hardcore criminals, protecting Malaysia and getting Sirul, a convicted murderer, to atone for his sins," Nurul Izzah said.

Echoing her lawyer R Sivarasa, Nurul Izzah asserted that she has immunity granted under Article 63(2) of the Federal Constitution and thus should not be prosecuted for her speech.

Arrest an affront to her rights as MP

"It's such an onslaught and an affront to my rights, which will also affect the rights of other Members of Parliament, the greater issue of freedom of expression, which means highlighting of the key fundamental issues of the rakyat are put at stake.

"We're talking about an affront that has taken the democracy of Malaysia hostage," the PKR vice-president said.

Nurul Izzah said that there has never been anything like her arrest based on a speech made in Parliament since 1978.

"Since 1978 there has not ever been a Member of Parliament investigated. This a
crucial issue and will leave an impact on Malaysians," the eldest daughter of jailed Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim said.

She also pointed out that the actions of the government and the police are an "embarrassment and a complete betrayal of the trust of Malaysians".

Asked about the next course of action, Nurul Izzah said they will take this matter to court.

"We will take action. We will ensure that such an abuses will not continue under this regime," she stressed.

Repeating his client's stand, Sivarasa said Nurul Izzah's arrest was completely malicious and illegal.

"The excuse to go her house to get a copy of her speech was a complete bullshit. We could've given it to them should they have asked," he told reporters.

Other Pakatan Rakyat leaders and activists who have been detained for the Kita Lawan rally are PAS Youth treasurer Mohd Fakhrul Razi; PKR secretary-general Rafizi Ramli; Jingga 13 head coordinator Mohd Fariz Musa; PKR Youth chief Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad; Kelana Jaya PKR Youth leader Saifullah Zulkifli; DAP Youth chief and MP for Rasah Teo Kok Seong; and activists Adam Adil Abdul Halim and Mandeep Singh. - mk

Polis cari Nurul Nuha pula...

Polis kini mencari anak kedua kepada ketua pembangkang Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Nurul Nuha, hanya beberapa jam selepas anak sulungnya, Nurul Izzah, dibebaskan.

- mk

Orang jahat suruh ibu tidoq lokap malam ni...

Gov't admits it is liable for 1MDB's RM11bil debt...

Putrajaya has admitted that the letter of support it issued to 1MDB Global Investment Limited, a  subsidiary of debt-laden 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB), will be effective if the company failed to repay a US$3 billion (RM11.1 billion) loan it took last year.

However, Finance Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said 1MDB Global Investment Limited needed to utilise its internal funds, including all its assets first before the Federal government stepped in.

"If all these steps have been taken and the company is still facing a shortfall in resolving its loan, then the government's support letter will be effective," he said in a written reply to Tony Pua (DAP-Petaling Jaya Utara) today.

The strategic investors wholly-owned subsidiary, 1MDB Global Investment Limited, had issued a bond to raise US$3 billion in March last year, for which Najib’s government had provided a “letter of support”.

According to the offering circular issued by Goldman Sachs, 1MDB Global Investment will "either on-lend all of the nett proceedings of this offering" to Abu Dhabi Malaysia Investment Company (ADMIC) or "use the nett proceeds of the offering to fund its investments in ADMIC".

However, in its latest financial statements for the year ended March 2014, 1MDB had said that the remaining nett proceeds had been utilised by the company for working capital and debt repayment purposes.

Of the US$3 billion bond, US$283 million was paid to global investment bank Goldman Sachs International for certain commissions, fees and expenses while US$1.56 billion is invested with a licensed financial institution.

Meanwhile, in another written reply to Datuk Dr Tan Kee Kwong (PKR-Wangsa Maju), Najib said businessman Low Taek Jho had never worked in 1MDB.

"All 1MDB business decisions and dealings are conducted by the management and 1MDB board of directors," he said in a three-line reply.

Criticism has been mounting over 1MDB, the wholly-owned Finance Ministry investment vehicle, established in 2009, which had chalked up debts of up to RM42 billion.

Scrutiny on it has grown more intense recently following whistleblower site Sarawak Report's exposés last week. This has piled further pressure on Najib and prompted opposition politicians, former Umno leaders and anti-graft bodies to demand a thorough investigation into the fund.

Najib ordered the country's auditor-general to "independently verify 1MDB's accounts", with the findings to be passed to the Public Accounts Committee, which in turn reports to Parliament.

Last week, Auditor-General Tan Sri Ambrin Buang told the media that the national auditor's inspection of 1MDB's account had started, but did not set a time frame to complete the audit.

The national auditor's finding on 1MDB is key as it precedes further action by PAC, as well as the police's own investigation. Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said the forces own probe into 1MDB would be contingent on the national auditor finding any "discrepancies or indications of wrongdoing".

Singapore's Business Times reported that Putrajaya had issued 1MDB a RM970 million loan, after a Cabinet meeting last month to discuss injecting funds into the debt-laden investor.

Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah revised the figure downwards to RM950 million, telling Parliament this morning that the fund was a standby credit for the firm, and expressed confidence that the company's cash-flow problems would be solved with an IPO (initial public offering) for its power plant assets, which had been postponed twice now. - tmi

– harakahdaily

1MDB merely repeating TIA’s mistakes...

The problems plaguing 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) is the result of repeating the same mistakes as its predecessor, Terengganu Investment Authority (TIA), a Terengganu MP said today.

PAS’ Kuala Terengganu MP Raja Kamarul Bahrin Raja Shah Ahmad said that 1MDB was merely a “new cinema with the same actors”, comparing it to TIA.

He also said that while TIA and 1MDB were different "movies", they had the same actors - Datuk Seri Najib Razak, businessman Jho Low and Datuk Shahrol Halmi.

Raja Bahrin also said it was a farce that approval was needed to bring back US$1.1 billion into Malaysia but added that Low had said in emails exposed by website Sarawak Report that Bank Negara's approval was not needed to move US$600 million to Cayman Islands.

TIA was set up in 2008 as a sovereign fund to manage future oil royalties for Terengganu, but in 2009 was converted into 1MDB by Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

He also said that although the state government pulled out when the loan was being syndicated to TIA, some actors were paid over RM200 million in commissions.

"The Terengganu state government got cold feet because no project was identified, but in the process of syndicating the loan, somebody got rich very fast, RM250 million had been paid out for nothing.

Raja Kamarul pointed out that TIA took a RM5 billion loan and yet no projects had taken off by the time it was turned into 1MDB.

“We need to know, the RM5 billion is under whose liability? Who is paying for it?” Raja Kamarul asked during a press conference at the Parliament lobby today.

“TIA was a full-dress rehearsal, while 1MDB was the final implementation,” Raja Kamarul said.

Raja Kamarul described the situation akin to a person falling into the same snake pit twice, only to be bitten by a larger snake the second time around.

“The international actor remains the same, a Malaysian by the name of Jho Low (left),” he said.

The young tycoon Taek Jho Low was instrumental in the setting up of TIA and now he has been alleged to have been orchestrating 1MDB’s dealings as well, raking in millions in the process. - mk
