PAS vice-president Mahfuz Omar scoffed at prime minister Najib Razak’s recent hinting of the general election date, saying he was relying more on the ‘right’ numbers rather than instil confidence for policies to decide the date.
“It seems the Prime Minister is desperate to hold the general election and relies heavily on the numbers calculation,” said Mahfuz, adding that the move showed Najib had no confidence his policies and reforms could convince the people.
“Numbers and dates do not mean anything,” added the Pokok Sena member of parliament.
Earlier, Najib in a radio interview last week hinted the general election would be held on November 11 because of the special place of the number ‘11’ in his life. He cited the birthdays of his parents, his son and the anniversary of UMNO's formation (May 11), of all of which fell on the eleventh day of the month.
But Mahfuz has no time for Najib's horoscopes.
“I am surprised that Najib has such belief in numbers. I wonder if he believed that the number would bring him luck," he said.
Mahfuz stressed that PAS was ready to face the general election without relying on numbers.
“PAS is ready, we don’t rely on numbers. We shall accept whatever number,” he quipped.
