Ramai guru menjalankan bermacam-macam perniagaan.

What about Muslims insulting Islam...

There should be no two standards when it comes to punishing those who insult Islam, say PAS leaders.

The call was made in the wake of public anger over an online posting insulting Islam by bloggers Alvin and Vivian, who had a picture of Bak Kut Teh made of pork to accompany their so-called Ramadan wishes.

As the duo was charged, PAS Kota Raja MP Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud(pix) said the same action should be taken against Muslims who insulted Islam.

“Yes, Muslims have the right to be angry when non-Muslims insult Islam. But strangely when Muslims themselves insult Islam, no one gets angry,” she said.

Mariah, who is the PAS Muslimat deputy chief, said some Muslims had made mockery of Islam by owning shares of gambling companies.

Echoing her view, Temerloh MP and PAS Youth chief Nasrudin Hassan said stern action must be taken against any individuals who insult any religion.

“Not only limited to non-Muslims, but also to Muslims who insult other religions,” he said.-harakahdaily

Can't compare Ibrahim Ali with Alvivi, says UMNO minister...

Perkasa chief Ibrahim Ali's urging to burn bibles containing the word ‘Allah’ cannot be compared with the present case against the sex bloggers Alvin Tan and Vivian Lee for insulting Muslims, said the urban wellbeing, housing and local government minister.

NONEAbdul Rahman Dahlan (right in photo) said Ibrahim had already explained that his remark was merely to correct the error of printing the said bibles, and burning them was the proper thing to do just as Muslims burn copies of the Quran that have misprints.

The acts of the couple, dubbed ‘Alvivi’, however were aimed at attacking another religion, and could  threaten interfaith harmony, he added.

"What Ibrahim Ali said was normal, but various portals twisted the statement saying it was an urging to burn the Bible. That is incorrect," he said, however clarifying that Malaysiakini was not amongst the said portals.

He was commenting when asked on the court case after launching an Ops Raya and Anti-Littering campaign in Kuala Lumpur today.

No comments on Zulkifli

Abdul Rahman further explained why Alvivi deserved punishment.

“This pair put forth more that goes against the people of Malaysia,” he said.

“What I worry about is that if we do not take specific action, it would involve friction among religions,” he added, noting that Alvivi were also infamous in Singapore.

NONEAbdul Rahman was also asked about Zulkifli Noordin’s (right) statement that angered Hindus before, but he did not comment on it.

Tan or his full name Tan Jye Yee, 25, and Lee or Lee May Ling, 24, pleaded not guilty in the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court today to three charges related to their action in posting their Ramadan bak kut teh greeting on their Facebook page and pornographic pictures in their blogs.

Deputy public prosecutor Noorin Badaruddin asked the court to not grant them bail because of their tendency to upload pictures that could arouse public outrage.

A lesson for everyone

In immediate reaction, home minister said the decision by the court in not granting bail to the couple should be a lesson for everyone.

NONEAccording to Bernama, Ahmad Zahid Hamidi (left) said it should be a lesson for youths of all races to not make a mockery of other people's religious beliefs.

"Any form of insult, although initially for fun, but on sensitive matters, including on religion, they should not be made fun of and cannot be compromised," he was quoted as saying in Bangi today.

Meanwhile, about the Ops, Abdul Rahman said that this year’s operations will last for 18 days from Aug 1, and the Fire and Rescue Department was the lead agency for the campaign.

He said the department will act as the main rescue agencies to deal with fire incidents, accidents and hazardous chemicals in 16 key locations that have been identified throughout the country.-malaysiakini
