IGP: No evidence, AG ordered probe on Zul Noordin stopped...

Inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar said the police had submitted its probe on Perkasa vice-president Zulkifli Nordin's alleged insult of Hinduism to the Attorney-General's Chambers but was ordered to cease investigation.

NONE"Due investigation was done for all the reports we received and the results were submitted to the Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC).

"In the case of Zulkifli Noordin, the AGC ordered us to cease investigation due to lack of evidence. Therefore it has been classified as No Further Action (NFA)," he told a press conference at the Bukit Aman mosque tonight.

He added as for the other cases, including that involving Perkasa president Ibrahim Ali, the police have yet to receive any word from the AGC.

Khalid was responding to a query from journalists on the status of investigation on Ibrahim Ali who had purportedly urged the burning of Bibles which used the word 'Allah'.

'Spirit of Sedition Act will remain'

Meanwhile, Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who was also present for buka puasa with the police force, said he supported Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's National Harmony Act, which would still regulate sensitive issues.

"When the National Harmony Act comes into force, the prime minister has promised that the spirit of the Sedition Act will remain.

"We support the move to strengthen the Sedition Act as even though it has a new name, its spirit remains," he said.

He also warned NGOs against stirring up religious sentiments and that his ministry and the police are monitoring them closely.-malaysiakini
