Pakatan pledges a gov't free from corruptions...

Pakatan pledges a govt free from bribesIn a resounding chorus today, Pakatan Rakyat’s top leadership pledged to consolidate their inner strength and shun all forms of corruption, that would betray the opposition coalition’s struggle.

DAP, PAS and PKR leaders raised their hands and loudly read out the five pledges before the 2,000 strong audience, after expressing their regret over the erosion of the country's basic justice and democracy.

They also regretted that Malaysians continue to be denied their rights and continue to be marginalised and unable to enjoy the wealth of the country.

"Therefore, we who support Pakatan Rakyat fully pledge to build a new Malaysia which is democratic, fair and caring.

The other pledges included defending the federal constitution, upgrading the quality of public services and strengthening the cooperation between the Pakatan components.

Leaders taking the pledge included PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim, PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, the party's deputy chief Azmin Ali and Women's chief Fuziah Salleh, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng and party advisor Lim Kit Siang, PAS spiritual leader Nik Aziz Nik Mat, PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, the party's deputy chief Mohamed Sabu and vice-chief Mahfuz Omar.

However, missing from what is likely the final Pakatan convention before the 13th general election were the fireworks and clamouring battle cries to lead the coalition's supporters to battle for Putrajaya.

However, the top leadership did announce several policy reforms should they come to power.

And fresh from his Sodomy II acquittal, the firebrand Anwar failed to excite the audience with any new announcement except to renew calls for a policy debate with Prime Minister Najib Razak.

Anwar, the Permatang Pauh MP, who met reporters after the concluding session today was not even interested in counter suing Sodomy II complainant Mohd Saiful Bukhairy Azlan.

But he responded to Bersih chief S Ambiga's proposal for an anti-corruption plan, saying Pakatan was "open" and will reveal such a plan.

He added that he would meet the former Bar Council president to hear her suggestions on the proposed plan.

Meanwhile, he was more interested in focussing on the election, saying the three allies must discuss, negotiate as one leadership, message, voice and agenda to arrive at Putrajaya.

"Pakatan's agenda must be memorised, and shared with the people. Umno is an old lion without teeth.

“We must be confident that we will work towards goodness, not to betray or accumulate personal wealth," he said.

"It's going to be a no nonsense administration (if Pakatan takes over). You perform, you stay, you're corrupt, you go," he warned. - malaysiakini
