Police have a good case against NFC...

orange book forum klscah 250111 rafizi ramliAfter spending two hours with the police Commercial Crimes Investigation Division, PKR's director of strategy Rafizi Ramli believes police have "a good case" on misappropriation of funds by the National Feedlot Corporation (NFC).

"They are aware of the cases we brought up and some things that we have suspicions about but could not find proof, and they seem to be on the right track.

"I believe I was called to give my statement to corroborate and firm up their case," Rafizi told reporters after his meeting with police at the Kuala Lumpur CCID headquarters in Bukit Perdana, which took place from 3.48pm to 5.49pm today.

Asked if the police gave any indication when their case would be ready, Rafizi said that the indications point to a timeline that could be measured in weeks.

"From what they said, I got the impression that the investigations could see an end in a few weeks.

"I believe they already have a case against NFC. It is up to the higher ups, whether they will proceed or not," he said.

Rafizi also appeared pleased that police were not concerned about and did not broach the subject of the identity of the unidentified whistleblower who leaked information about the NFC finances to PKR.

"They were unlike the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) officers who were only interested in the identity of the whistleblower when they questioned others (from Jingga 13) who also lodged reports against NFC.

"We never touched on the identity of the whistleblower. They were fine with the information and were very professional about it. It was a friendly meeting," he added.

Bribery allegation not brought up

Asked whether the possibility of police and MACC investigators being approached in a bribery attempt, which Rafizi accused NFC chairperson Mohamad Salleh Ismail of being involved in, was discussed, he said this was not brought up.

The impression he got from police, he said, was that they were told to control their interactions with the public at large at this stage of their investigation to ensure no such thing (as the offering of bribes) can occur.

During the meeting with the CCID officers, Rafizi also delivered documents as proof of his allegations against NFC.

NONEAt a press conference at PKR headquarters in Petaling Jaya earlier in the afternoon, Rafizi called for NFC chairperson Mohamad Salleh Ismail to be arrested and charged with attempting to bribe police and MACC investigators.

He said: "PKR has ascertained through sources that the RM1.755 million Mohamad Salleh paid (to Shamsubahrin Ismail) was intended to bribe police and MACC investigators.

"Shamsubahrin was just the middleman, in collusion with Mohamad Salleh.

"Shamsubahrin took the money, disguised as consultancy fee, and offered it to the enforcement officers."

The money was allegedly to influence the course of the investigation into NFC.

Rafizi said the matter was conveyed to the party through sources close to the police.

He said there was evidence in a police report lodged by a Bukit Aman police officer who was approached by Shamsubahrin with the bribe offer, as well as a statement allegedly taken from the NFC chairperson who corroborated the matter.

NONEMACC prosecution chief Abdul Razak Musa told reporters after Shamsubahrin (left) was, on Dec 30 last year charged with cheating the NFC, that it was initially believed that the RM1.755 million was used to “influence someone” - and that MACC investigations showed this to be not true.

Rafizi also declared that he would provide the CCID with ‘proof’ of his claim that NFC funds had been misappropriated.

"I shall hand over the financial documents handed to us, which form the basis of our allegations," Rafizi said.

He explained that the financial documents were a printout of the cash book, listing the exact expenditures of the NFC in 2009.

"It is an excerpt from the company's accounting system, detailing over 1,099 transactions... we have gone through each one, (in addition to) documents we obtained through public searches.

"I shall hand over everything to the police. Finally, I am being called, after all the others were summoned. Better late than never," he said, sarcastically.

Rafizi said the document had been sent to him anonymously and insisted that he did not know the whistleblower’s identity. He said the police contacted him by phone.
