18 juta cars, semua mesti tukar nombor plat baru...

Sapa agaknya? Harap2 bukan Jho Low atau mangkok2 !MDB atau kaum kerabat orang Putrajaya pulak...

Macai2 UMNO lain terbeliak biji mata...

One source for vehicle licence plates soon...

A centralised production scheme for number plates of vehicles will be launched in the second half of the year to eliminate the long outstanding problem of fancy number plates by errant car owners.

Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Aziz Kaprawi said the new registration plates will be made of metal with stamping according to Road Transport Department (RTD) size and measurement, similar to the material utilised in neighbouring countries such as Singapore and Thailand.

The new number plate scheme is to be launched after the introduction of national plates by RTD as part of the major programmes by agencies under Transport Ministry this year.

"For a start, we will make the installation of the new type of number plates to be mandatory for new vehicles.
Later, we will expand it gradually for existing vehicles in the next five years," he told theSun.

Realising of the mammoth task by the RTD to undertake the number plate replacement exercise for an estimated 18 million registered vehicles currently active on the road, he said, authorised agents in every district will be appointed gradually to ensure that the production of number plates will be in accordance with the RTD's specification.

Aziz stressed that appointed vendors will be required to utilise MySikap system to keep the production in sync with RTD's record so as to keep production under control to avoid irresponsible parties from changing the plates without valid reason and to produce the plates according to specification.

Asked about the cost to install the new number plates, Aziz said: "It will be no cost for new cars."

theSun understands that RTD will present a paper to the Cabinet next month to request for a government funding to avoid owners of existing cars to bear the replacement cost.

Touching on the enforcement to weed out fancy number plates, Aziz said it was for public security as well as road safety.

The tragic incident on the Duke Highway last May where three family members were killed allegedly caused by six cars which were allegedly racing, witnesses were unable to identify the registration numbers of at least three vehicles because they were fitted with fancy plates.

Aziz also said since the launch of AES in 2012, there had been 87,000 cases of errant motorists escaping detection by the AES cameras as their registration numbers were barely visible.‎ - theSundaily
