"Saya terkejut apabila saya menerima slip mengundi.

Down syndrome son registered by BN as voter...

A father is shocked to find out that his son, who has Down syndrome, is a registered voter for the Kota Raja parliamentary constituency.

Ruslan Abd Razak, 58, said he received a letter bearing a photo of Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Seri Najib Razak and the coalition's symbol, stating the name of his son, Muhamad Nur Jihad, 25, as a voter of Kota Raja and also the Sri Muda state seat.

However, he has never registered his son as a voter.

In a press conference at PAS Selangor deputy state commissioner Khalid Samad's office, Ruslan said that this was just a tip of the iceberg, and stressed that "this is proof of the existence of phantom voters".

Ruslan said he received the letter two days ago, and has yet to lodge a formal report with the Election Commission.

According to Ruslan, his son, who has Down syndrome, is mentally disabled and is unable to make any choice. However, he will take his son to cast his vote on polling day, and should the EC denied his son from voting, he will sue the EC for discriminating against his son.

According to Selangor PAS election director Jaafar Samsuddin, there are 5,463 Selangor voters in the electoral roll who have been registered without their knowledge. And all these name had been sent to the EC, and he hoped that the EC will take due action.

Jaafar added that a list of 60,903 dubious voters in Selangor that had been identified by the Selangor Pakatan Rakyat were also sent to EC recently, but the EC said that it did not receive the list.

Jaafar raised several issues that needed to be addressed by the EC. Firstly, to disclose the list of postal voters to candidates of all seats on nomination day so that these names can be crossed out from the electoral roll, thus reducing the possibility of double voting; secondly, to count the votes of the security forces the same day of voting to avoid any manipulation.

Khalid reiterated the importance of EC's role in ensuring a peaceful election, and it must conduct the election in a fair manner, warning that failure to do so may result in serious repercussions.

"We don't know what people will do, although we can ask them to calm down," Khalid said. - fz
