The Election Commission (EC) claims the Selangor government’s voters audit exercise is insincere, done with the agenda of discrediting the EC by labelling genuine voters as dubious voters.

NONETo back its claim, EC chairperson Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof today highlighted an allegation raised by PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution that he claimed was doubtful.

Saifuddin had alleged that a small hut in Sungai Pusu, Gombak, was the registered address of 13 voters.

Abdul Aziz said an inspection by EC officials showed that the hut is not a residential house but a parking place for motorcycles.

The address provided by Saifuddin is that of a coffee shop that is used by residents of several houses in the locality as their corresponding address because it is located beside the main road.

NONESaifuddin made the allegation during a forum with Abdul Aziz that was organised by Radio24 last Thursday.

The EC at a press conference at its headquarters in Putrajaya this morning furnished photographs of the hut, houses and the mailbox of the coffee shop to the media.

EC only body with authority over electoral roll

“If we are sincere to clean (the electoral roll), if we are honest and sincere, if we have suspicions, come and meet with the EC. Many political parties have met with us and did not announce it to the media.

NONE“We are not perfect, we are not Superman. If there is a mistake, we will correct it according to the laws,” he said.

Abdul Aziz (left) stressed that the EC was the only body empowered, under Article 113 of the Federal Constitution, to administer the electoral roll.

“We have never agreed to let any individual or institution to inspect or audit the electoral roll.”

He also reiterated that once the names of voters are registered in the electoral roll and gazetted, the roll cannot be questioned or changed by anybody except by the voters themselves.

Selangor in April this year announced the findings of its electoral roll verification exercise, saying it recorded a spike in new voter registrations.

With the findings, the state raised concerns of electoral fraud aimed at toppling the Pakatan Rakyat-led government.- malaysiakini

apa orang lain cakap...

Multi Racial - The list is either clean or not. Selangor government audit clearly show the list is not clean. It is unfortunate that the Selangor government has to spend time and money to get it done which is clearly Election Commission job. Instead of thanking the Selangor government, he criticised them. I agree with CiViC on this. How to discredit an orgnisation which already have major credibility issue.

wanderer - We do not expect you to be a "Superman" Aziz Mohd Yusof, we demand you to be neutral! Are you a decent bloke capable of doing that? Bersih 3.0 and electorate of the land asked for a clean and fair GE, what have you done?...sitting on your fat arse and pretending you are doing something?...until to date, you have done nothing. Without doubt, you are a much bigger liar.
