- malaysian insider

Rafizi, like other young folk, 'being ungrateful'...

Former Federal minister Shahrizat Abdul Jalil said while she did not specifically describe PKR strategy director Rafizi Ramli as ‘si Tanggang’, or a person who does not respect their elders or mother, she described him as being like other people of the younger generation who may have been ungrateful.

“I come from a generation that is grateful for things happening to you and we are taught not to bite that hand that feeds you. And somebody who is seen as biting the hand that feeds you would be deemed as derhaka (betrayal),” Shahrizat said.

“Rafizi is a Petronas scholar or government scholar and he is seen as a person going against the people who had given him a scholarship.”

She told the Kuala Lumpur High Court that in her speech during the Umno Wanita Assembly she admitted to saying Rafizi or Hafizi but denied that it referred to the PKR director of strategy.

NONEAs the women, family and community development minister, Shahrizat (left in photo) had come under intense pressure to quit her post because of the NFC scandal. She stepped down when her term as senator expired in April.

Describing the opposition's relentless attacks on National Feedlot Corporation (NFC), which operates the National Feedlot Centre, as the “biggest challenge” of her political career, she said she was never confrontational in leading Wanita Umno.

“My politics have been about welfare towards serving the poor and disabled," she said.

“I am mindful of the words I say because I check my words, However, if people may think they can berak atas kepala (defecate on my head). They are attacking me because I am leading 1.3 million members. I do not want people to think that I am weak.”

She was being cross-examined in the hearing of her RM100 million defamation suit against PKR strategy director Rafizi Ramli and Wanita chief Zuraida Kamaruddin.

Rafizi’s lawyer, Ranjit Singh, also screened a video clip in court of her speech at the Wanita Umno assembly last year.

NONEIn it, she is heard describing Rafizi (right in photo) as 'si Tanggang', or a person who does not respect their elders or mother.

Following the statement, Rafizi had filed a counter-claim against her.

She further described the person whom she referred to as betraying the Malays and Islam.

As the women, family and community development minister, Shahrizat had come under intense pressure to quit her post because of the NFC scandal. She stepped down when her term as senator expired in April.

She was testifying in her RM100 million suit against Rafizi and Zuraida over their comments made in the parliament lobby.

Describing her actions as shown, of pulling up her sleeve, as mere gestures of wanting to fight, as she described the opposition as rude in attacking her.

“I am gesturing to them that if you want to fight with me, come on or if you are ready I am ready. It is said metaphorically, it is a Malaysian way of communicating against the atrocities and slander said by the defendants.

“These are values which I hold dearly in that we should be grateful to somebody who had given you so much. I think like that.

Discrepancy in Agroscience bid

Earlier today, she was asked on the discrepancy in her statement of claim and also the Auditor-General’s Report regarding the project.

In her statement of claim, Shahrizat said the official tender for the project was given to Agroscience Sdn Bhd where her son is a director sometime on Oct 20, 2006 and that it was given after another company had withdrawn.

She agreed that her son may have played a prominent role in the tender exercise and that her husband, Mohamad Salleh Ismail, was made a director in Agroscience a year later. Salleh is charged with several counts of criminal breach of trust.

“What happened is that the whole fiasco came to the fore, I asked my husband about what happened. He told me that two companies were offered to do this project - that was Lambert Agriculture Sdn Bhd and Agroscience. However, Lambert had withdrawn sometime on Oct 20, 2006.”

When pointed by Ranjit that in the Auditor-General’s Report it was stated that Lambert Agriculture only withdrew on Nov 13, 2008, Shahrizat said the counsel would have to verify this with the NFC itself.

The hearing continues on March 18, 19, April 10 and 11 and May 13 to 16.

Lawyer Muhammad Shafee Abdullah is representing Shahrizat while Gopal Sreenevasan and Razlan Hadri Zulkifli are appearing for Zuraida.- malaysiakini

Shahrizat: PKR duo 'poisoned' BN ears...

Ex-minister Shahrizat Abdul Jalil has pinpointed the “poison” planted by two PKR leaders as the sole factor behind calls by BN veterans and leaders for her resignation from her cabinet post.

She said this when being cross-examined for the third day in the RM100 million defamation lawsuit she has filed against the duo in the Kuala Lumpur High Court.

NONEShahrizat pinned the blame squarely on the respondents, PKR director of strategy Rafizi Ramli and Wanita chief Zuraida Kamaruddin, for the furore over the National Feedlot Centre which is managed by a company operated by her family-members.

She was shown copies of news reports of calls for her resignation by former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad, former Wanita Umno head Rafidah Aziz, Gerakan deputy president Chang Ko Youn, MCA Youth leader Loh Chew June, Cheras Umno chief Syed Ali Al Habshee and Kalabakan MP Abdul Ghapur Salleh.

Rafidah had described Shahrizat as being a problem to Umno, while Loh had commented that BN ‘safe seats” would become unsafe if she did not resign from her post as women, family and community development minister.

“All the calls are as a result of the defamation by the (respondents). I disagree that I am a liability to Umno, BN or the government in the face of the general election,” Shahrizat said.

However, she told lawyer Ranjit Singh, representing Rafizi, that she does not want to sue the BN leaders including Mahathir.

Ranjit: Are you saying that these leaders, including Rafidah and Mahathir, are being influenced by the opposition parties including the defendants?
Shahrizat: Absolutely.

Ranjit: None of these leaders who asked you to resign would have done their own fact-checking without making the statements.

Shahrizat: I would not know.

Ranjit: Are you saying that my clients brainwashed these people?

Shahrizat:
I know they .... were involved in political assassination (of me).

She agreed that, since members of her family had received a RM250 government soft loan for the feedlot project, the public are allowed to place her under scrutiny but “should not resort to defaming someone” in the process.

‘Attacks so evil’

The former minister was testifying in her RM100 milion defamation suit against Rafizi and Zuraida.

Shahrizat also agreed with Ranjit's suggestion that his client was like Carlos the Jackal.

Carlos the Jackal  is the Venezuelan-born terrorist who killed two French counter-intelligence agents and an informant for the French government.

NONEShahrizat described the attacks by Rafizi and Zuraida as being “orchestrated and so evil”, as these had also questioned her responsibilities as a wife, mother, woman and leader.

She affirmed the contents of a newspaper report in which she was quoted as saying that she does not want to be a burden to the government.

Shahrizat also agreed that she announced her resignation on March 11, 2012 although the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission had cleared her of any involvement in influencing the cabinet to give the project to her family.

However, she disagreed that she had a sudden change of heart in March, and that her real decision came after a family discussion that she should resign.

“It wasn't a sudden change of heart. Following the evil strategy by the opposition. I talked to my family and we agreed that I should resign and take steps to clear the name of my family and myself,” she explained.

“I disagree with your suggestions that I could have resigned on that day (in March). I did not want to throw in the towel and leave my ministry high and dry. When I step down I would do so with dignity and grace and I do not want to leave anybody in the lurch,” she said.- malaysiakini

cheers.
