Anwar - I did not call Najib 'pandi kutti'...

PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim has denied calling premier Najib Abdul Razak "pandi kutti", (piglet in Tamil) during a ceramah for Indian Malaysian supporters over the weekend.

He also said those levelling the accusation are guilty of defamation. Umno defames (me) - I said pornographic politics, cruelty, corruption like pandi kutti; I did not mention name," Anwar said on his micro-blogging website Twitter yesterday.

TV Selangor, owned by the Selangor government, concurred, stating that it had recorded Anwar's speech in full. In a report published today, it reproduced Anwar's quote to show that the derogatory word was not aimed at Najib as claimed.

According to the report, the quote, originally in Malay, was: "It means that, if we fight with desperate parties, they will resort to desperate behaviour including (distributing the sex) video. "(PKR president Dr Wan) Azizah (Wan Ismail) says 'Don't eat too much because later (you will) become like the person in the video'. This is really pandi kutti."

("Maknanya kalau kita lawan dengan parti yang terdesak, mereka menjurus ke arah perbuatan terdesak termasuk video. Azizah kata sekarang jangan makan banyak sebab nanti sama dengan dalam video. Ini betul-betul pandi kutti.")

The report also claimed that Anwar had told the audience in Klang that 'pandi kutti' may sound crude, but there is no culture in the world that resorts to dirty tactics such as distributing pornographic videos against political leaders.

PKR vice-president N Surendran, who had attended the ceramah, confirmed that Anwar did not use the term on Najib.

"Instead, he used the word in relation to the dirty and gutter politics practised by BN," he said in a statement today.

Defending Najib

After the allegation made by a blogger, Umno leaders and their allies have been training their guns on Anwar, receiving wide coverage by Umno-owned Malay daily Utusan Malaysia.

Umno secretary-general Tengku Adnan Mansor said it reflected Anwar's immaturity, while Perkasa president Ibrahim Ali said Anwar had lost his sense due to growing political pressure. Hamidzun Khairuddin, chairperson of the pro-Umno Selangor Coalition of NGOs against Corruption even described Anwar as suffering from "pre-menstrual syndrome" due to the Sodomy II trial and sex video allegation.

Najib said today that the use of foul language "has not caused me to lose sleep" and that this only shows that Anwar was trapped in “ethics-free politics”.
