BN psy-war posters to frighten Malay-Melanau voters...

NONEPKR youth is alleging that the BN is distributing posters depicting Sarawak PKR chairman Baru Bian as the next chief minister, in a bid to scare the Malay and Melanau communities.

This, claimed the movement's deputy chief Azmizam Zaman Huri, is a move calculated to scare the voters of these communities since the current CM Abdul Taib Mahmud is a Melanau.

The posters which depicts an image of Bian with the caption "The next Sarawak chief minister", were allegedly distributed after the Pakatan announced on Friday that Sarawak PKR chief will become the next CM if the opposition were to take over the land of the Hornbills.

"The posters were not pasted or hung, but distributed house to house, direct to the hands of voters," related Azmizam adding that the posters made the rounds in all the Malay-Melanau areas.

The pale blue tabloid sized posters which showed a smiling Bian, also has the words 'Baru Bian Pakatan candidate for chief minister,' on it.

Asked about the matter, the PKR candidate for Satok Ahmad Nazib Johari claimed that they found a sackful of the said posters and also detected the presence of the poster in Malay villages in Petrajaya and Jalan Keretapi in Batu Kawan.

'BN dirty tactic'

Calling it as another 'dirty tactic' employed by the BN, Ahmad Nazib is confident that the move will not affect the voters.

"We understand Malay sensitivities, this will not work. It's a dirty campaign. Even the picture is not nice," he said, though admitting that he has yet to touch on the issue in his campaign speeches.

Meanwhile local daily Utusan Borneo today reported that the same poster were found around Gita in the state constituency of Tupong.

NONEHowever, according to PAS secretery-general Mustafa Ali, no such posters were yet found in any of the five Malay seats contested by the Islamic party.

In an immediate reaction, Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim compared the BN psy-war posters to similar attempts to frighten the Malays in Penang when Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng was appointed to helm the state.

"Malays were told that the DAP and Lim were a threat to them, even though the previous CM was also Chinese," he told reporters at a press conference in Kuching.

'Ploy to obscure'

Anwar added that the Malays and Melanau in Sarawak are poor and destitute despite the CM being a Melanau Muslim. He said that he knows Bian well and believed that the Sarawak PKR leader will not do the same like the current CM.

"He will not take away the timber and rakyat's lands and will show fairness to all."

Anwar said that the dirty tactic by BN is a ploy to obscure the land grabs that are impoverishing the Malays, Chinese, Iban, Bidayuh and others.

The are several Malay and Melanau majority seats, seven smack in the middle of Sarawak.

Statistically for electoral purposes, Malay and Melanau communities are often lumped together, both communities adding up to 27.5 percent of registered voters, dominating 26 seats in total.
