Musa Hitam dedah Dr Mahathir berada di KL ketika peristiwa Memali...

Selepas hampir 30 tahun peristiwa Memali berlaku, bekas timbalan perdana menteri Tun Musa Hitam mendedahkan bahawa perdana menteri ketika itu Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad berada di Kuala Lumpur, bukannya China sebagaimana yang diberitakan sebelum ini.

Pendedahan ini dibuat sendiri oleh Musa yang juga menteri keselamatan dalam negeri ketika peristiwa itu berlaku pada 19 November 1985 yang mengorbankan 14 orang dan berpuluh yang lain cedera.

Musa mendedahkan perkara ini dalam Diskusi Politik Malaysia: Dulu dan Sekarang anjuran Kerajaan Negeri Kelantan yang diadakan di Kota Bharu malam kelmarin.

Turut serta bersama beliau sebagai panel adalah naib presiden PAS Datuk Husam Musa dan moderatornya adalah Profesor Madya Datuk Dr Mohmamad Agus Yusof.

Musa ketika menjawab soalan Agus berkata, Dr Mahathir berada di Kuala Lumpur ketika kejadian itu bahkan, "Dua tiga hari selepas kejadian itu pun dia berada di Kuala Lumpur."

Ia disambut oleh Agus dengan berkata "Oh my God," dengan nada terkejut ekoran pendedahan Musa itu kerana media melaporkan Dr Mahathir berada di China ketika kejadian itu berlaku.

"Ok, my God, our God," kata Musa menyambut kenyataan Agus sambil ketawa dengan pendedahan itu.

Dalam diskusi itu juga Musa berkata, "titik hitam dalam politik saya adalah Memali, saya cakap terus terang." Musa berkata, itulah juga yang dinyatakan beliau kepada kawan-kawanya dalam politik dan di mana-mana.

Menurut ensiklopedia bebas, Wikipedia, peristiwa Memali berlaku pada 19 November 1985. Insiden ini mengorbankan 14 orang dan berpuluh-puluh yang lain tercedera serta penahanan beratus-ratus orang.

Kesemua yang ditahan telah dibebaskan kecuali 36 orang.

Mereka ditahan di bawah Akta Keselamatan Dalam Negeri (ISA).

Dalam pertempuran antara orang kampung dengan pihak polis, Ustaz Ibrahim Mahmud atau lebih dikenali dengan Ibrahim Libya terbunuh.

Polis memanggil operasi ini sebagai 'Operasi Angkara atau Operasi Hapus'.

"Ketika itu Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad selaku Perdana Menteri Malaysia berada di China," menurut Wikipedia, dan kini baru didedahkan sebaliknya oleh Musa apabila beliau berkata ketika itu Dr Mahathir berada di Kuala Lumpur.

Peristiwa Memali berlaku apabila polis cuba menahan Ibrahim Libya di bawah Akta Keselamatan Dalam Negeri (ISA) kerana didakwa mengamalkan ajaran sesat.

Ibrahim pula tidak mahu menyerah diri kalau mahu ditahan di bawah ISA. Akibatnya polis merempuh perumahan Ibrahim Libya dan pengikutnya dengan kereta perisai dan mengakibatkan 14 terbunuh.

Musa dipersalahkan dengan peristiwa itu dan Dr Mahathir selaku perdana menteri terlepas kerana dia diberitakan berada di luar negara ketika itu, iaitu China.

Pendedahan Musa hari ini akan memberikan satu episod baru dalam peristiwa hitam ini.

PAS menyifatkan semua yang terbunuh sebagai mati syahid manakala Sultan Kedah Tuanku Abdul Halim menziarahi kubur Allahyarham dan pengikutnya serta menyiramkan air mawar di atas pusara mereka. – tmi

One of the longest-kept secrets surrounding the bloody Memali incident was laid bare last night: that the then prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad (pic) was in Malaysia when police forces killed Ibrahim Libya and his followers in a clash.

For decades, it was reported that his deputy Tun Musa Hitam took charge of the operations as home minister in 1985 because Dr Mahathir was in China for a visit.

The context of last night's revelation by Musa in Kota Baru is important because the then deputy prime minister's image took a major hit and he subsequently fell out with Dr Mahathir.

The Memali incident occurred at a remote village in Baling, Kedah, in November 1985.

A team of policemen laid siege to the village of about 400 people and where the late Ibrahim Mahmud, also known as Ibrahim Libya had been running a religious school.

The incident resulted in 14 civilian deaths and two police deaths.

During the incident, Dr Mahathir had reportedly been in China but Musa claimed that he was in fact in Malaysia at the time.

He made the revelation during a political discussion yesterday in Kota Baru, which was organised by the Kelantan government.

Also present at the discussion were PAS vice-president Datuk Husam Musa and moderator Professor Madya Datuk Dr Mohammad Agus Yusof.

When asked by Agus whether Dr Mahathir was in Kuala Lumpur during the incident, Musa said two to three days afterwards, he was still in the capital.

In response, Agus said in a shocked tone “Oh my God” as the media had consistently reported that Dr Mahathir was in China during the incident.

"Ok, my God, our God," Musa said in an amused tone in reply to Agus's reaction.

During the discussion, Musa said: "The darkest moment in my political career was Memali, I am being honest."

He said that was also what he told his friends in politics.

The Memali incident saw hundreds of people detained. All were later freed except for 36 who were detained under the Internal Security Act.

Following the Memali incident, Musa was blamed as he was reportedly the acting prime minister at that time.

Dr Mahathir was supposedly visiting China at the time.

Musa's shocking revelation will open up a new episode in the tragic incident.

PAS has described all those who died as martyrs.

Search for MH370 shifts significantly after new lead...

An international air and sea taskforce hunting for the wreckage of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 was re-directed today to an area 1,100km north of where they have been searching for more than a week, after Australian authorities received new radar information from Malaysia.

The dramatic shift in the search area, moving it further than the distance between London and Berlin, followed analysis of radar data that showed the missing plane had travelled faster, and so would have run out of fuel quicker, than previously thought.

The new search area is larger, but closer to the Australian west coast city of Perth, allowing aircraft to spend longer on site by shortening travel times.

It is also vastly more favourable in terms of the weather as it is out of the deep sea region known as the Roaring 40s for its huge seas and frequent storm-force winds.

"I'm not sure that we'll get perfect weather out there, but it's likely to be better more often than what we've seen in the past," John Young, general manager of the emergency response division of Australian Maritime Safety Authority (Amsa) told reporters.

He added the previous search site was being abandoned (right).

"We have moved on from those search areas to the newest credible lead," he said.

For more than a week, ships and surveillance planes have been scouring seas 2,500km south-west of Perth, where satellite images had suggested there could be debris from Flight MH370, which went missing on March 8 with 239 people aboard.

Ten aircraft searching on Friday were immediately re-directed to the new area of 319,000 sq km, roughly the size of Poland, around 1,850km west of Perth. The Australian Geospatial-Intelligence Organisation was also redirecting satellites there, Amsa said.

A flotilla of Australian and Chinese ships would take longer to shift north, however, with the Australian naval ship the HMAS Success not due to arrive until Saturday morning.

The shift was based on analysis of radar data between the South China Sea and the Strait of Malacca, the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) said.

At that time, the Boeing 777 was making a radical diversion west from its course from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing.

ATSB Chief Commissioner Martin Dolan said radar and satellite polling data had been combined with information about the likely performance of the aircraft, speed and fuel consumption in particular, to arrive at the best assessment of the area in which the aircraft was likely to have entered the water.

An international investigative team continued to analyse the data, Dolan said, which "could result in further refinement of the potential flight path of MH370".

Shifting searches

The latest twist underscores the perplexing and frustrating hunt for evidence in the near three-week search. It comes less than a day after the latest reports of sightings of possible wreckage, captured by Thai and Japanese satellites in roughly the same frigid expanse of sea as earlier images reported by France, Australia and China.

Satellite images had shown suspected debris, including pieces as large as 24 metres, within the original search area in the southern Indian Ocean.

Potential debris has also been seen from search aircraft, but none has been picked up or confirmed as the wreckage of Flight MH370, which disappeared from civilian radar screens less than an hour after taking off.

Officials believe someone on board may have shut off the plane's communications systems before flying it thousands of miles off course, where it crashed into the ocean in one of the most isolated and forbidding regions on the planet.

Theories range from a hijacking to sabotage or a possible suicide by one of the pilots, but investigators have not ruled out technical problems.

David Brewster, a visiting fellow at the Strategic and Defence Studies Centre at the Australian National University, said it was surprising that the new data analysis was just coming to light.

"The Malaysians have never really had to handle a search and rescue operation of this nature before so it is maybe complicated by lack of experience," Brewster said.

"There is no doubt they haven't got their systems working smoothly in terms of sharing within Malaysian organisations or with neighbouring countries."

Reinforcements

The US Navy said on Friday it was sending a second P8-Poseidon, its most advanced maritime surveillance aircraft, to help in the search.

"It's critical to continue searching for debris so we can reverse-forecast the wind, current and sea state since March 8 to recreate the position where MH370 possibly went into the water," said Commander Tom Moneymaker, a US 7th Fleet oceanographer.

The United States has also sent a device that can be towed behind a ship to pick up faint pings from the plane's black box voice and data recorders, but time is running out.

"We've got to get this initial position right prior to deploying the Towed Pinger Locator since the MH370's black box has a limited battery life and we can't afford to lose time searching in the wrong area," Moneymaker said.

The prolonged and so far fruitless search and investigation have taken a toll, with dozens of distraught relatives of 150 Chinese passengers clashing with police and accusing Malaysia of "delays and deception".

Chinese insurance companies have started paying compensation to the families of passengers, some of the firms and state media said. - Reuters

Mahkamah Rayuan Syariah Johor hari ini mengarahkan prosiding rayuan perceraian bekas Sultanah Johor Tuanku Zanariah Tuanku Ahmad dijalankan di mahkamah tertutup.

Keadaan itu tidak pernah berlaku sebelum ini.

Mahkamah juga tidak membenarkan putera dan puteri almarhum sultan Johor Mahmud Iskandar, sebagai contoh Tuanku Masera dan saudaranya, hadir dalam mahkamah.

Tuanku Zanariah, yang memfailkan permohonan rayuan terhadap keputusan Mahkamah Tinggi Syariah Johor yang mengesahkan perceraian itu, tidak dapat hadir kerana tidak sihat dan mahu diwakili puterinya.

Malah, peguam yang membantu peguam utama untuk Tuanku Zanariah turut diminta berada di luar mahkamah.

Rare closed court called in ex-sultanah's case...

In an unprecedented move, the Johor Syariah Court of Appeal today ordered the appeal to the divorce proceedings of former Sultanah Johor Tuanku Zanariah Tuanku Ahmad be conducted in a closed court.

The court also disallowed her children by the late Johor sultan Mahmud Iskandar (right), - Tuanku Masera and her siblings, to be present in court.

Tuanku Zanariah, who filed the application to appeal the earlier Johor Syariah High Court decision that affirmed the divorce, could not be present as she was unwell and wanted her daughters to represent her.

Even lawyers who are assisting the lead counsel for Tuanku Zanariah were given the boot by the court.

One of Tuanku Zanariah's lawyers, Kamar Ainiah Kamaruzaman, confirmed that this was what transpired at today's court proceedings.

A closed court is only normally called in civil cases involving sex crimes, when the victim is testifying, or when a child is testifying in custody battles.

However, even then the lawyers assisting the lead counsel are allowed to be present.

The Syariah Court of Appeal is the highest religious court in the state.

'Never happened before'

The court session began with a three-member panel led by justice Syed Ali Syed Abu Bakar, Marsid @ Morsid Mahrof and Jainuddin Mt Sum.

It is understood the proceedings took place in a special court that was to hear the Johor Islamic Religious Department as an intervener in the case on the side of the respondents, that also comprises the fatwa council.

It is learned that the Syariah Court of Appeal had not sat for some time, and was hastily formulated to hear the present appeal.

The proceedings began with one of the judges reciting the Al-Fatihah for the late sultan Mahmud.

It then proceeded with the judges ordering those in the public gallery to leave the court.

“This resulted in reporters and special branch officers having to leave the court,” said Kamar Ainiah.

She added that the judges then ordered the late sultan's children to leave the court as well.

“Tuanku Masera then stood up and said, 'We are the siblings by our mother whom the court and fatwa council may have accused of committing zina (adultery),” Kamar Ainiah said.

"But the court remained persistent and ordered them to leave the courtroom."

Kamar Ainiah said when she wanted to sit beside the lead counsel, the court also ordered that lawyers assisting the lead counsel to leave.

“This has never happened before. I do not know what to say,” she said, adding that the court then postponed proceedings to Monday.

Divorce backdated after sultan's death

Tuanku Zanariah’s plight began last August, after she received a letter informing that the divorce which had been backdated to Jan 23, 2009, despite Sultan Mahmud Iskandar having passed away on Jan 22, 2010.

The letter from the Johor mufti Mohd Tahrir Syamsuddin to her, was accompanied by three other documents including a divorce certificate dated Oct 8, 2010, that states the divorce took place on Jan 23, 2009.

The second letter was from the former Johor menteri besar Abdul Ghani Othman dated Dec 9, 2010, informing her of the Johor fatwa committee’s decision on Aug 6, 2010 that recognised the validity of the divorce.

The final document was from the Lower Syariah Court dated Sept 30, 2010 that affirmed the divorce.

Sultan Mahmud Iskandar passed away on Jan 22, 2010. He and Tuanku Zanariah were married on Aug 19, 1961. It was Mahmud's second marriage and they have 10 children.

Tuanku Zanariah claims the divorce is not valid and wants the Lower Syariah Court order to be set aside as she was not called for any divorce proceedings.

She also sought the court to investigate whether Sultan Mahmud Iskandar's proclamation in Jan 2009 that was allegedly witnessed by Abdul Ghani and the Johor royal committee chairperson Tengku Osman Tunku Temenggong Ahmad was valid, based on a statutory declaration they made.

"A person who passed away on Jan 22, 2010 does not have the legal capacity to initiate any court proceedings unless it is for the administration of its estate.

"Furthermore, during his lifetime the sultan had not filed for any divorce proceedings at any Johor syariah court against me,” she said in court documents challenging the divorce.

Her title as a former sultanah was also revoked following this.

However, the Johor Syariah Court had dismissed the review application in upholding the Lower Syariah Court's decision and issued a gag order not to report it, resulting in this proceeding.- mk

Pemuda PAS Perak kecewa terhadap aktiviti 'Raja Bomoh' Ibrahim Mat Zin yang menurut mereka masih berleluasa dengan perbuatan “khurafat dan syirik”, terbaru di negeri itu.

Ketuanya Dr Raja Ahmad Iskandar Raja Yaakob berkata, perbuatan itu masih diamalkan walaupun mufti Tan Sri Dr Haji Harussani Haji Zakaria sendiri sudah memintanya bertaubat.

Justeru Raja Ahmad (kanan) mempersoalkan peranan Jabatan Agama Islam Negeri Perak (JAIPk) dalam mencegah dan menghalang amalan itu.

“Kami mendesak agar JAIPk bertindak dan menghentikan perbuatan yang jelas bercanggah dengan Islam tersebut.

“Jika Ibrahim tidak diambil tindakan, ia seolah-oleh Ibrahim 'amat kebal' dan tidak 'boleh disentuh'!” katanya.

Ibrahim sebelum ini mencuri perhatian ekoran gaya tersendirinya bagi merungkai kehilangan pesawat MH370 di Lapangan Terbang Antarabangsa Kuala Lumpur (KLIA), Sepang.

Aktiviti itu mengundang kecaman meluas pelbagai pihak termasuk menteri dan mufti. Beliau juga menjadi bahan lawak jenaka di Internet.

Dalam kenyataannya hari ini, Raja Ahmad berkata, Ibrahim yang didakwanya mempunyai ramai kenalan daripada "pembesar negeri" tidak harus terlepas.

Azan di pinggir laut

Sementara itu, sebuah saluran di laman perkongsian video Youtube dikesan memuat naik aktiviti yang dirujuk itu, kononnya untuk 'menyeru mayat' MH370 di Pulau Sembilan, Perak.

Ditonton lebih 75,000 kali, video itu antaranya memaparkan Ibrahim dan empat lagi lelaki menaiki bot sambil seorang daripadanya membuat gaya meneropong.

Sedutan video Suara.TV itu juga memaparkan aksi menguis kayu berbentuk seperti tongkat ke dalam air seolah-olah mencari sesuatu.

Dalam babak yang lain, dipaparkan pula dua lelaki merentang buluh panjang yang digantung dengan beduk dan diketuk berapa kali sebelum diikuti Azan di pinggir laut.- mk 

Why is 'raja bomoh' still free to hold rituals...

PAS Youth has questioned why self-styled ‘Bomoh King’ Ibrahim Mat Zain, who gained infamy for performing a ritual at KLIA to find MH370, is still free to conduct yet another MH370-related ritual.

Referring to a video of a ritual - said to “raise the bodies” from the sea - in Pulau Sembilan, Perak, Perak PAS Youth chief Raja Ahmad Iskandar Raja Yaakob urged action against such “unIslamic” acts.

“PAS Youth is disappointed that such superstitious and syirik (polytheistic) acts are still ongoing in Perak despite Perak mufti Harussani Zakaria speaking against the Raja Bomoh...

“What is the Perak Islamic Affairs Department’s role in preventing such acts from being practiced?” he asked in a statement.

He added that Ibrahim may be known to many leaders in Perak and no action against him gives the impression that he is immune to action.

Yesterday, portal Suara.TV published a 2 minute and 58 second video showing Ibrahim and a small team travelling to Pulau Sembilan, off Manjung, and performing the ritual.

In the video, Ibrahim’s assistant is shown looking through bamboo binoculars and ‘raking’ the sea waters using a walking stick at the island.

The azan (Muslim call for prayer) is also sounded, after the bedok is beaten in the video, which has garnered more than 70,000 views.

The men also act out like they are pulling something out of the sea.

Suara.TV quoted Ibrahim as saying that the props were only “symbolic” and the ritual was just a prayer to Allah that the remains of the 239 on board will float to the surface.

“I used the binoculars to search for the crash site, walking stick to call out to the bodies and pointed bamboos to pull the victims out.

“After that we sounded the call for prayer and prayed that our efforts are accepted by Allah,” he was quoted as saying.

Ibrahim has earlier performed a ritual using bamboo binoculars and coconuts at KLIA, resulting in the Selangor Islamic Affairs Department (Jais) issuing a warning of arrest.

Jais had also stationed enforcement officers at the airport after that to ensure that Ibrahim or other shamans did not perform rituals there.- mk

Thaichote satellite detects 300 floating objects...

A Thai satellite has detected 300 floating objects in the Indian Ocean, about 200 kilometers from the international search area for the missing Malaysia Airlines MH 370.

Anond Snidvongs, executive director of Geo Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency, said that Thaichote satellite or Thailand Earth Observation Satellite, has recorded the objects in the Indian Ocean, on March 24 at 10am local time.

The site was about 2,700 kilometres from Perth of Australia and about 200 kilometres from the international search area where the ill-fated flight is thought to have come down. Some objects were more than two metres long, Anond said.

The detection is resulted from Thailand’s cooperation with Malaysia in finding the missing jetliner.

He said images of the findings had already been submitted to the caretaker premier and that caretaker Foreign Minister Surapong Tohvichakchaikul will forward the images to his Malaysian counterpart to examine if they were of the debris of MH 370.

Thaichote or Thailand Earth Observation Satellite is a remote sensing satellite for natural resources observation.

Malaysia has concluded that the flight "ended" in the Indian Ocean and all passengers are presumed dead.

The latest lead was a satellite image showing 122 objects in the Indian Ocean, but the search teams comprising vessels and helicopters for various countries have not yet found them.- the nation

PKR’s Balingian campaign being sabotaged...

Deportations, sudden fogging, court schedules, even faulty electrical units have plagued Pakatan Rakyat's bid to win votes in the Balingian by-elections and a party rep is calling it “sabotage.”

In a press statement, Perak DAP state assemblyperson Howard Lee Chuan How has questioned whether "hidden hands" were zealously preventing crowds from attending Pakatan rallies in Mukah.

However he claimed that PKR candidate Abdul Jalil Bujang has reaped positive response, despite the stacked odds in Balingian.

"The road ahead may not be very long, but it definitely is hard. But I, along with our Pakatan comrades will press on; brick by brick, block by block, calloused hand by calloused hand to deny the BN  hegemony," Lee said of his experience after visiting Mukah this week.

Balingian has been represented by ex-Sarawak Chief Minister Abdul Taib Mahmud since 2001 until he quit as CM after 33 years in power to become governor. PKR's Abdul Jalil is facing off against BN's Yussibnosh Balo on polling day set for Saturday.

DAP's Lee noted that on one afternoon alone - PKR faced "a myriad of problems" to hold a rally at Boulevard Setia Raja, where PKR leader Anwar Ibrahim (right) was the anchor speaker.

But Anwar was suddenly called to appear in the Federal Court the next day and therefore had to speak earlier than scheduled.

Then the campaign team also discovered a "badly destroyed electrical transformer" which they suspected was meant to trigger a blackout.

Fogging activities

Meanwhile, a private contractor decided to suddenly carry out "fogging" activities right at the assembly spot.  The fogging team agreed to stop after some negotiations. Lee claimed that no 14-day notice - the usual requirement - was given for the fogging the area for eateries.

"This are the happenings in one afternoon of the twelve days of campaign, in one of the 21 voting districts in the constituency," Lee reported.

He said that despite the obstacles, the ceramah had attracted a "never before seen crowd of over 2,000 Pakatan  supporters."

Earlier this week, at three PKR MPs - Rafizi Ramli (left), Saifuddin Nasution and Tian Chua - were stopped from entering Sarawak and deported upon arrival.

Lee further claimed that gangsters tailed the Pakatan reps on their door-to-door campaign and used many other  "undemocratic, uncivilised and un-Malaysian" ways to stop them from making inroads into the BN stronghold.

The Balingian seat has 13,366 registered voters. In the last election, PKR’s candidate Suriati Abdullah obtained 871 votes against Taib, who secured 6,210 votes in a three-cornered fight.- mk

Ahmad Seth, 26, berkata beliau membaca semua berita spekulasi dan teori yang tersebar luas di laman sosial, termasuk tuduhan bapanya merampas pesawat yang hilang pada 8 Mac itu.

Dalam pertemuan 5 minit dengan wartawan akhbar itu, Ahmad Seth yang juga pelajar jurusan Bahasa Jepun di sebuah kolej swasta berkata, apa yang dibacanya tidak meninggalkan kesan di hati kerana beliau lebih kenal bapanya, berbanding orang lain.

“Apa yang saya baca langsung tidak meninggalkan kesan di hati dan saya tidak mempedulikan spekulasi itu kerana sebagai anak, saya lebih mengenali beliau berbanding orang lain.

“Walaupun saya tidak begitu rapat dengannya kerana ayah terlalu sibuk bertugas, kami memahami antara satu sama lain,” katanya seperti dilaporkan Berita Harian.

Selepas lebih seminggu pesawat itu hilang, siasatan terhadap juruterbang dan anak kapal serta semua penumpang dijalankan dengan lebih giat.

Polis turut memeriksa rumah Zaharie dan pembantu juruterbang, Pegawai Pertama Fariq Abd Hamid serta merampas simulator penerbangan milik Zaharie sebelum dipasang semula di balai polis untuk membantu siasatan.

Zaharie juga dikaitkan dengan Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim apabila dikatakan sebagai pengikut fanatik ketua pembangkang itu dan turut berada di mahkamah untuk mendengar keputusan berhubung kes liwat Anwar, sehari sebelum pesawat MH370 berlepas ke Beijing.

Bagaimanapun, sehingga kini, hasil siasatan mendapati tiada motif dapat dikaitkan antara Zaharie dengan tindakan merampas pesawat atau mematikan sistem komunikasi dan transponder MH370.

Ahmad Seth berkata, beliau tenang dan tidak terkejut ketika mendengar pengumuman Perdana Menteri, Datuk Seri Najib Razak mengenai pesawat itu yang berakhir di tengah Lautan Hindi.

“Saya hanya akan percaya mengenai pengumuman pesawat (terhempas) selepas pasukan penyelamat menjumpai bukti seperti serpihan pesawat atau mayat. 

Selagi tiada pengesahan dan saya tidak melihatnya dengan mata saya sendiri, saya percaya ayah masih hidup,” katanya.

Berita Harian melaporkan pencarian keluarga Zaharie sejak kehilangan MH370 hampir menemui jalan buntu selepas isterinya, Faizah Khanum Mustafa Khan dan anaknya dikatakan keluar dari kediaman mereka di Seksyen 13, di Shah Alam, selepas pesawat dilaporkan hilang.

Ahmad Seth berkata, ibunya kini tinggal bersama-sama ibu saudaranya.Beliau berkata, aktiviti hariannya berjalan seperti biasa dan kelas tidak terganggu kerana perkara itu.

“Saya lebih senang menghabiskan masa bersama rakan, tambahan pula kelas di universiti baru bermula. 

Maaflah, ada kawan di dalam, saya perlu melayan mereka,” katanya sebelum mengakhiri pertemuan seperti dilaporkan akhbar itu.MH370 hilang daripada radar pada 8 Mac lalu selepas sejam berlepas dari Lapangan Terbang Antarabangsa Kuala Lumpur, Sepang bagi perjalanan ke Beijing dengan membawa 239 penumpang dan anak kapal.

'I know my father,' says missing pilot's son...

The son of the experienced pilot who flew the missing Malaysian Airlines flight has insisted his father was not the kind of man who would hijack a plane.

Ahmad Seth, the youngest of Captain Zaharie Ahmad Shah's three children, told Malaysian media he has paid no attention to suggestions his father may have been involved in a hijacking or suicide mission.

“I've read everything online. But I've ignored all the speculation. I know my father better,” the 26-year-old student told the New Straits Times, an English-language newspaper in Malaysia.

Amid the incessant theories about the flight, which disappeared on March 8, many have speculated about state of mind and political persuasions of the 53-year-old pilot at the controls of flight MH370.

This week, a New Zealand publication claimed to have spoken to one of Captain Shah's friends who said the experienced pilot was going through a number of relationship problems and felt that his life was crumbling at the time of the ill-fated flight.

Shortly after the plane vanished, attention turned to whether Captain Shah or his co-pilot, Fariq Abdul Hamid, had deliberately crashed the jet as part of a suicide mission.

The political leanings and religious beliefs of Captain Shah have also been closely examined in the media. It has been claimed the captain was a political activist who attended the trial of Malaysia’s opposition leader, Anwar Ibrahim, just seven hours before he took control of the passenger jet.

"We may not be as close as he travels so much. But I understand him,” Mr Seth said.

He said the family was holding out for “the right confirmation” that the aircraft ended its journey in the southern Indian Ocean.

"I will believe it [that there are no survivors] when I see the proof in front of my eyes," he said.

He is the first of the pilot's immediate family members to speak publicly since the search began.

Captain Shah joined Malaysia Airlines in 1981 and was certified by Malaysia’s Department of Civil Aviation as a simulator test examiner.

He had 18,365 flying hours experience, and had installed a Boeing 777 flight simulator in his home, from which he made YouTube videos.- smh.com.au

MH370 pilot Captain Zaharie Ahmad Shah's youngest son said he knows better than to believe any of the speculation about the missing plane.

26-year old Ahmad Seth Zaharie was quoted saying in the New Straits Times (NST) that he was aware of some of the wild theories including accusations that his father hijacked the plane or that Zaharie was a political fanatic but dismissed them all.

He added that he has not given up hope that MH370 passengers, including his father, may still be alive.

"I've read everything online. But I've ignored all the speculation. I know my father better," Ahmad Seth was quoted telling reporters at his home.

"We may not be as close as he travels so much. But I understand him," he added.

Ahmad Seth said that he was not surprised by the government's announcement on Monday night that the aircraft had ended in the Indian Ocean but he would still cling on to hope.

"Now we are just waiting for the right confirmation (for wreckage or bodies). I will believe it when I see the proof in front of my eyes," he said.

Meanwhile, Utusan Malaysia quoted a source saying that apart from MAS and Malaysian cyber-forensic experts, Capt Zaharie's flight simulation data have been shared with two other countries besides the United States.

The source said that further investigations were also being carried out by China and Indonesia.

Yesterday, US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) had said that it would complete its work in recovering deleted data from Zaharie's hard disc in a day or two.- mk

AirAsia has no business curbing an employee’s freedom of expression...

Dear Tan Sri Tony Fernandes, where is your sense of fair play?

You have no business to intrude into the rights of individuals and their freedom of speech and expression.

It is not acceptable for AirAsia X to suspend a pilot over MH370 remarks posted in his personal Facebook account unless it is against the law, abusive or pornographic.

Are you saying individuals lose their right to freedom of speech and expression when they are employed by Air Asia and its subsidiaries?

Mixing politics with your service and business is certainly worse than an act of expressing an honest opinion on an issue that has gripped the world.

Malaysiakini reported today (March 26) that AirAsia X, the long-haul arm of budget carrier AirAsia, has suspended a pilot for comments he made online on the search for missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370, pending a domestic inquiry.

“AirAsia X senior first officer has been suspended pending investigation as company policies were broken in Facebook posting,” Fernandes, the group CEO of AirAsia, said in a tweet on March 25.

AirAsia X CEO Datuk Azran Rani Osman added that the first officer contravened a “specific directive” not to publicly comment on the ongoing search.

“(There is a) specific directive to our crew on public comments on MH370. (There is a) duty of care not to be hurtful,” he wrote in response to Fernandes' tweet.

When contacted, AirAsia X said that it would not be releasing any further details on the matter.

Fernandes and Azran would do well to be reminded that the constitutional right of Malaysians to freedom of speech and expression supersedes the so-called “specific directive” and “company policies” that the pilot had run foul of.

Let’s go into the specifics of what the senior first officer posted:

Ø For f**k’s sake lah... Is there any concrete proof that MH370 has indeed crashed?! It’s not right to simply assume when you have no evidence to back up your claims!

Ø (The) supposed debris ... isn’t even confirmed to be from the plane yet! Show us the proof then tell us MH370 has crashed.

Ø Till then, stop hiding facts! It's obvious to even a blind man that there (are) tons of info the government definitely knows and isn’t sharing yet!”

MH370 - 122 objek dikesan...

The Malaysia navy has tweeted some of the French images showing the potential debris field.

Pasukan penyiasat Malaysia mengumumkan imej satelit baru menunjukkan sebanyak 122 objek di dikesan di permukaan selatan Lautan Hindi dalam kawasan operasi pencarian.

Pemangku Menteri Pengangkutan Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein berkata, objek berkenaan – ada diantaranya sebesar 23 meter panjang berwarna cerah – kini sedang diteliti.

Bagaimanapun, buat masa ini belum dapat dipastikan sama ada ia benar-benar berpunca daripada pesawat Malaysia Airlines yang hilang itu, katanya.

“Namun, kita berharap petunjuk baru ini akan membantu operasi pencarian,” katanya dalam sidang media dipancarkan secara langsung di TV hari ini.

Katanya, imej yang dirakam pada 23 Mac itu diterima oleh Agensi Remote Sensing Malaysia (MRSA) dari Airbus Defence dan Space semalam.

"MRSA menganalisis imej tersebut - dalam satu kawasan lautan seluas 400 kilometer persegi - dan berjaya mengenalpasti 122 objek berpotensi.

"Ada di antaranya sepanjang satu meter, yang lain ada yang sepanjang 23 meter.

"Ada di antaranya kelihatan berkilat, mungkin menunjukkan objek pejal," kata Hishammuddin yang membaca satu kenyataan.

Tambahnya, objek berkenaan dikesan pada kedudukan kira-kira 2,557 kilomter dari Perth.

Kesemua imej berkenaan dihantar serta merta kepada Pusat Koordinasi Penyelamat Australia di Perth semalam, katanya.

Hishamuddin berkata kesemua petunjuk itu bakal membantu pasukan penyelamat dari 26 negara yang kini menumpu perhatian di selatan Lautan Hindi itu.

"Kita sudah mempunyai empat petunjuk satelit berbeza, termasuk dari Australia, China dan Perancis yang menunjukkan kemungkinan objek.

"Paling penting sekarang kita cuba padankan objek itu dengan MH370.

"Ini akan membantu mengecilkan kawasan carian dan mengesan lebih banyak objek dari pesawat itu," kata beliau.

Menurut beliau lagi Australia kini mengetuai usaha mencari dan menyelamat di selatan lautan itu, dan membahagikan kawasan pencarian kepada sektor timur dan barat.

Sementara itu Malaysia menyelia kerjasama antara negara dan agensi dalam membantu usaha mencari ini, katanya.

Dua hari lepas, Perdana Menteri Datuk Seri Najib Razak mengumumkan bukti-bukti sedia ada mencadangkan kedudukan terakhir MH370 di pertengahan Lautan Hindi, di sebelah Barat Perth, Australia. - mk

TUDM sangka MH370 diarah patah balik...

Kementerian Pertahanan menjelaskan, pasukan tentera tidak memintas pesawat misteri yang dikesan melalui ruang udara Selat Melaka kerana menyangka ia diarah berpatah balik oleh menara kawalan.

Timbalan Menteri Datuk Abdul Rahim Bakri berkata, Tentera Udara Dirajay Malaysia mengesahkan bahawa pesawat itu tidak memberi ancaman, ketika ia dikesan oleh radar tentera pada jam 2.40 pagi.

Bagaimanapun, TUDM pada masa itu tidak memastikan bahawa pesawat berkenaan merupakan penerbangan MH370, yang kemudiannya gagal dikesan, katanya di Dewan Rakyat hari ini.

MH370: 122 objects spotted...

New satellite images taken three days ago have revealed 122 potential pieces of debris from the missing Malaysian Airline flight MH370, Malaysia’s Transport Minister says.

Hishammuddin Hussein revealed the latest - and largest - find of objects that may have come from the plane at a daily press briefing in Kuala Lumpur.

Hishammuddin Hussein told a news conference that the images were captured by France-based Airbus Defence and Space on March 23.

Hishammuddin said new satellite images provided by France showed 122 potential objects in the southern Indian Ocean, about 2,557km from Perth.

They range in sized from 1m to 23m, he said. The images have been sent to Australia which is co-ordinating the seach in Perth.

They are the fourth set of satellite images to show potential debris from Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 in a remote part of the Indian Ocean roughly 2,500 km (1,550 miles) south west of Perth.

The objects are believed to be solid and range from one metre to 23 metres (three to 75 feet) long.


It is understood some pieces of debris are 'bright' but authorities have not confirmed whether they are from missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370.

"It must be emphasized that we cannot tell whether the potential objects are from MH370," he said.

He pointed out that Malaysia has been sent for four separate satellite leads from Australia, China and France.

Earlier satellite images from China, Australia and France showed items floating in the southern Indian Ocean, where the plane is believed to have crashed, leaving no survivors.

“Yesterday, on the 25th of March, the Malaysian Remote Sensing Agency, MRSA, received new satellite images from Airbus Defence and Space, which is based in France, and these images were taken on the 23rd of March,” he said this evening.

“MRSA analysed the images and in one area of the ocean, measuring some 400 square kilometres, were able to identify 122 potential objects.

“Some objects were one metre in length, other objects were as much as 23 metres in length. Some of the objects appeared to be bright, possibly indicating solid material.”

The news comes as weather is again threatening to disrupt the international armada of planes and ships searching the southern Indian Ocean for debris from the missing plane.

There are predictions of gales and thunderstorms in the search zone.

Six countries are involved in the operation - Australia, New Zealand, the US, Japan, China and South Korea - after MH370 vanished on March 8, with 239 people on board, including six Australians.

A US law firm says it has started “multi-million dollar’’ proceedings against Malaysia Airlines and Boeing over flight MH370, in what could mark the start of an expensive legal battle over the lost plane.

Chicago-based Ribbeck Law Chartered International said today it filed a court petition in the US state of Illinois on Tuesday, seeking documents pertaining to possible design or mechanical defects or conduct by the airline that may have led to the disaster.

“We believe that both defendants named are responsible for the disaster of flight MH370,” the firm said in a statement released in Kuala Lumpur.

“It is extremely important for the victims we represent that all responsible parties are brought to justice without exceptions,’’ the statement said, quoting its head of aviation litigation Monica Kelly.

The “petition for discovery’’ filed on Tuesday seeks potential evidence from the opposing party in any lawsuit.

The law firm said families “have initiated a multi-million dollar litigation process’’, but did not specify how much in damages may be sought in the future.

The legal action was filed on behalf of Januari Siregar, “a lawyer who lost his son in the terrible crash’’, the firm said. It gave no further details on the plaintiff.


“We must find what caused the aircraft to crash and demand that the problems with the airline and the aircraft’s design and manufacturing are immediately resolved to avoid future tragedies,” Kelly said.

The US Navy has sent a device to Perth to help find the jet's black box of flight and cockpit voice data, along with a robotic underwater vehicle.

But its deployment may have to be delayed, with warnings of potentially damaging weather conditions in the southern Indian Ocean.

“We've mentioned the possibility of gale force winds and thunderstorms. These conditions are markedly worse than those of today,” a Bureau of Meteorology spokesman said.

“At the moment, the forecast is suggesting poor conditions tomorrow.”
