'Sultan Sulu' mohon gencatan senjata...

Sultan Sulu Jamalul Kiram III hari ini memohon untuk melakukan gencatan senjata secara unilateral susulan kematian sejumlah pengikutnya di tangan pasukan keselamatan Malaysia di pantai timur Sabah.

Laporan media Filipina, InterAksyon menyebut, Jamalul berhasrat agar Malaysia mengumumkan gencatan senjata untuk mengelakkan lebih banyak kematian.

Jamalul bagaimanapun mahu pengikutnya agar terus setia kepadanya.

Sementara itu, jurucakap kesultanan tersebut Abraham Idjirani mendakwa 10 orang pengikutnya maut dan empat lagi cedera akibat serangan dalam operasi bersama pasukan polis dan tentera Malaysia pada hari Selasa dan Rabu.

Sulu sultan Jamalul Kiram III has called for a unilateral ceasefire in Lahad Datu, Sabah, following the deaths of several of his followers in a Malaysian military assault.
 
Even as Jamalul (left) called on forces loyal to him to stand down, he expressed hope Malaysia would also declare a ceasefire to prevent the further loss of lives.

The Sulu sultanate has so far counted 10 of its people dead and four injured from the assault by a combined Malaysian police-military force on Tuesday and yesterday.

His spokesperson Abraham Idjirani said 10 others being held by the Malaysian security forces, said spokesman .

Idjirani said despite the sultan’s unilateral ceasefire declaration issued this morning, their fighters would continue to maintain a defensive stance, and he urged Malaysia to declare a ceasefire.

The ceasefire was declared to prevent further bloodshed in Lahad Datu.

The declaration came as Malaysia launched another assault in the area this morning.

Jamalul also welcomed the call by UN secretary-general Ban Ki-moon for an end to the violence and a dialogue on Sabah.

It also coincided with a sudden visit to the stricken corner of Borneo island by Premier Najib Abdul Razak, whose government tried for three weeks to persuade the invaders to leave but launched a military assault Tuesday after they refused.

The "sultan" Jamalul Kiram III declared a unilateral ceasefire for 12:30 pm (0430 GMT) and urged Malaysia to reciprocate, according to a statement read out by his spokesman in Manila.

"They will not take any action. They will remain in the place where they are now. They will not expand operations," the spokesman said, referring to the militants, believed to number between 100 and 300, in Malaysia's Sabah state.

The spokesman, Abraham Idjirani, said Kiram was responding to Ban's appeal Wednesday for a cessation of hostilities in the Malaysian state of Sabah.

"(Ban) urges an end to the violence and encourages dialogue among all the parties for a peaceful resolution of the situation," a statement released by his office said.

Jamalul declared the "unilateral ceasefire... in order to reciprocate the call of the UN to preserve lives", said Idjirani, as the elderly and ailing Kiram sat next to him.

"We hope Malaysia reciprocates the same call for a ceasefire."

Malaysian officials did not immediately respond to the appeal.

Kiram sent his followers from their southern Philippine island homes across the Sulu Sea to assert an ancestral claim to Sabah.

Manila: Kiram's extradition unlikely

At least 28 people, mostly militants, have been reported killed since an initial stand-off began more than three weeks ago in the sleepy farming village of Tanduo.

Malaysia launched an air and ground attack Tuesday aimed at crushing the militants after they refused surrender demands and engaged security forces in two deadly shootouts.

But the assault failed to eliminate them, and Malaysian security forces have continued Thursday to scour the region of vast palm plantations and jungles for the fighters.

Tension is running high in eastern Sabah due to the Tanduo violence, but also reports that gunmen had been spotted in other towns down the coast, raising fears of a wider guerrilla infiltration.

Authorities released photos of the bodies of 13 militants on Wednesday, but said only one was confirmed killed in the crackdown, while most were from previous shootouts during the standoff.

The Sultan of Sulu once ruled over islands that are now parts of the southern Philippines, as well as Sabah.

However the sultanate lost control of Sabah to European colonial powers in the 18th Century.

Kiram says he is the current Sultan of Sulu, although the sultanate no longer has any formal power in the Philippines.

Malaysian foreign minister Anifah Aman had said late Wednesday that his government might seek Kiram's extradition if Manila failed to take action.

"The group's leader has made statements that have incited anger and hatred. Does the Philippines have laws to bring him to justice?" he said.

"If not, maybe we will ask the Philippines to hand him over to us."

However, the Philippine government said extradition was unlikely, citing the lack of a bilateral extradition treaty. -malaysiakini

 Mayat anggota di Semporna diperlaku dengan kejam...

Enam anggota polis yang terbunuh di Kampung Simunul di Semporna pada 2 Mac lalu, ditemui dalam keadaan diperlakukan dengan kejam, kata polis dalam Facebook lewat malam tadi.

Menceritakan kronologi peristiwa krisis Sabah itu, polis juga mendedahkan mereka terpaksa menghantar pasukan penyelamat ke kampung tersebut sehari kemudian untuk menyelamatkan anggota yang cedera dan mengambil mayat rakan mereka yang maut dalam serangan hendap sekumpulan penceroboh dari selatan Filipina.

Menurut posting Facebook tersebut, polis menghantar satu pasukan ke Kampung Simunul dan Kampung Sri Jaya untuk menyiasat laporan mengenai kehadiran penceroboh Filipina.

"Apabila tiba di Kampung Simunul, pasukan polis itu telah diserang hendap oleh penceroboh. Enam anggota polis terkorban manakala dua yang lain cedera. Enam penceroboh bersenjata telah dibunuh oleh pihak polis.

"Pihak polis dihantar pasukan penyelamat untuk mengambil mayat wira-wira kita terkorban dan menyelamatkan anggota yang terperangkap di Kampung Simunul, Semporna. Pasukan itu berjaya melaksanakan misi tersebut.

"Mayat anggota polis yang terkorban itu ditemui dalam keadaan diperlakukan dengan kejam oleh penceroboh bersenjata tersebut," tambahnya..

Polis menamakan enam anggota yang terkorban sebagai Supt Ibrahim Lebar, ASP Michael padel, Sarjan Baharin Hamit, Sarjan Abdul Aziz Sarikon, Koperal Salam Togiran dan Lans Korporal Mohd Azrul Tukiran.

Ketua Polis Negara , Tan Sri Ismail Omar sebelum ini enggan mengesahkan laporan bahawa ada mangsa dipenggal dan juga mata mereka dikorek keluar.

Bekas Perdana Menteri Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad merujuk kepada insiden tersebut dalam satu sidang akhbar pada hari Selasa dan menyifatkan tindakan penceroboh itu 'sebagai tidak Islamik'.

Insiden mengerikan itu juga dibangkitkan pada mesyuarat tengah malam antara Setiausaha Luar, Albert del Rosario dan Menteri Luar, Datuk Anifah Aman pada hari Isnin di Kuala Lumpur. 

Bagaimanapun, Jabatan Hal Ehwal Luar Filipina mengeluarkan satu penjelasan semalam, bahawa del Rosario tidak melabelkan kumpulan Filipina itu sebagai "pengganas", tetapi mengakui kekejaman tersebut, jika benar, dianggap sebagai perbuatan "pengganas".

"Di Semporna, terdapat dakwaan tindakan keganasan. Seperti yang dilaporkan oleh menteri luar Malaysia, selepas pasukan polis terjebak dalam satu serangan hendap dan dibunuh, mayat mereka dipelakukan dengan kejam.

"Jika benar kekejaman ini dilakukan seperti yang dilaporkan kepadanya, kedua-dua setiausaha luar dan menteri luar itu bersetuju bahawa ini adalah tindakan keganasan," kata kenyataan itu.

12 Februari 2013 - pencerobohan bersenjata berlaku di Lahad Datu di mana kira-kira 150 orang bersenjata berpakaian tentera menceroboh masuk ke Felda Sahabat, Lahad Datu.

Polis mengepung kawasan itu dan mengarahkan kumpulan itu meletakkan senjata mereka dan menyerah diri.

14 - 28 Februari  - Rundingan dijalankan di mana yang penceroboh dikenal pasti dari selatan Filipina, mendakwa ada kaitan dengan 'kesultanan Sulu'. Terdapat beberapa pusingan rundingan antara penceroboh dan pihak polis untuk mengelak pertumpahan darah. Tarikh akhir bagi penceroboh untuk pulang secara aman pada 24 Februari lulus tetapi rundingan diteruskan untuk membolehkan mereka untuk berundur.

1 Mac - Insiden tembakan di Kampung Tanduo, Lahad Datu yang mengakibatkan dua anggota polis Malaysia terkorban akibat serangan mortar. Dua belas penceroboh bersenjata ditembak mati polis.

Risalah digugurkan dari helikopter mengarahkan penceroboh bersenjata yang berkubu di Kampung Tanduo supaya menyerah diri. Perdana Menteri, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak memberi amaran kepada penceroboh supaya menyerahkan dan jika gagal berbuat demikian pihak berkuasa akan mengambil tindakan. Presiden Filipina Benigno Aquino III menggesa penceroboh menyerahkan diri tanpa syarat.

4 Mac - Tujuh batalion tentera telah dikerahkan ke Sabah. Kampung Tanjung Batu dan Kampung Tanjung Labian diisytiharkan sebagai "zon merah" berikutan laporan pendaratan lelaki bersenjata di sana. Penceroboh dilabelkan sebagai "pengganas" selepas mesyuarat antara menteri luar Malaysia yang asing dan setiausaha luar Filipina di Kuala Lumpur. [Ini telah dipertikaikan oleh Manila].

5 Mac - Tindakan bersama oleh pasukan keselamatan. Najib berkata, pasukan keselamatan telah melancarkan 'Ops Daulat' untuk menamatkan kebuntuan dengan pengganas di Kampung Tanduo untuk mempertahankan maruah dan kedaulatan negara. Ini diikuti dengan operasi memburu dan membersihkan kawasan itu.

Bodies in Semporna were mutilated, confirm police...

The six police officers who were killed at Kampung Simunul in Semporna on March 2 were found to be badly mutilated, said the police in a Facebook posting late yesterday.

Relating the chronology of events of the Sabah crisis, the police also revealed that they had to dispatch a rescue team to the village a day later to save the injured and retrieve their dead colleagues following a deadly ambush by a group of intruders from southern Philippines.

According to the Facebook posting, the police send a team to Kampung Simunul and Kampung Sri Jaya to investigate reports on the presence of the Filipino intruders.

"Upon arrival at Kampung Simunul, the police party was ambushed by the intruders. Six police personnel sacrificed their lives while two others were injured. Six armed intruders were killed by the police.

"The police despatched a rescue team to retrieve the bodies of our fallen heroes and rescued personnel who were trapped in Kampung Simunul, Semporna. The team successfully executed the mission.

"The bodies of dead police personnel were found to have been brutally mutilated by the armed intruders," says the posting.

Police have named the six - Supt Ibrahim Lebar, ASP Michael Padel, Sergeant Baharin Hamit, Sergeant Abdul Aziz Sarikon, Koperal Salam Togiran and Lans Korporal Mohd Azrul Tukiran.

Inspector-general of police Ismail Omar had previously refused to confirm reports that some of the victims were beheaded and even had their eyes gouged out.

Former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad had apparently alluded to this incident at a press conference on Tuesday and described the invaders' action as unIslamic.

This macabre incident was also raised at a midnight meeting between Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert del Rosario and Malaysian Foreign Minister Anifah Aman on Monday in Kuala Lumpur.

However, the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs issued a clarification yesterday, taking pains to point out that del Rosario did not label the Filipino group as "terrorist", but had conceded that the atrocities, if true, would be considered "terroristic" acts.

"In Semporna, there were alleged acts of terrorism. As reported by the Malaysian foreign minister, after the police forces were lured into an ambush and killed, their bodies were brutally mutilated and desecrated.

"If indeed these atrocities were committed as reported to him, the secretary and the foreign minister both agreed that these were, at the very least, terroristic acts," read the statement.

Feb 12, 2013 - Armed intrusion at Lahad Datu where about 150 armed persons in army fatigues intrude into Felda Sahabat, Lahad Datu.Police cordon the area and order the group to lay down their arms and surrender.

Feb 14 to Feb 28 - Negotiations were conducted where intruders, identified to be from the southern Philippines, claimed to be linked to the so-called ‘Sulu Sultanate'.There were several rounds of negotiations between the intruders and police to avoid bloodshed.The deadline for the intruders to leave peacefully on Feb 24 passed but negotiations continued to allow them to retreat.

March 1 - Kampung Tanduo, Lahad Datu shooting incident that resulted in the first two Malaysian casualties due to a mortar attack. Twelve armed intruders were shot dead by police.Police drop leaflets from a helicopter, ordering the armed intruders holed up in Kampung Tanduo to surrender.

PM Najib warns the invaders to surrender, failing which the authorities would take action. Philippine President Benigno Aquino III urges the intruders to surrender unconditionally.

March 2 - The shooting incident in Kampung Simunul in Semporna where six police officers died and another six intruders (photo) were killed.Another armed intruder, identified by the villagers as an imam, was also killed in Kampung Sinalang Lama by villagers after he tried to take them hostage.

March 3 - Police rescue those trapped and retrieve the bodies of the dead.
 

March 4 - Military reinforcement arrived where seven army battalions were deployed to Sabah. Kampung Tanjung Batu and Kampung Tanjung Labian were declared "red zones" following reports of gunmen landing there.The intruders labeled as "terrorist" after a meeting between the Malaysian foreign minister and the Philippine secretary in Kuala Lumpur. [This was disputed by Manila].

March 5 - Joint action by security forces. Najib says the security forces have launched ‘Ops Daulat' to end the standoff with the terrorists in Kampung Tanduo to defend the dignity and sovereignty of the country. Mopping and searching operation followed suit to clear and secure the area.

March 6 - One armed terrorist shot dead while trying to ambush Malaysian national security forces. Area of operation is expanded. Security situation much under control.-malaysiakini
