Former Malaysian prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin was cleared of four counts of abuse of power involving RM232.5 million (US$50 million), though he still faces three other charges of money laundering.

Senior fellow at the Singapore Institute of International Affairs Dr Oh Ei Sun noted that the PN coalition has come to be dominated by one component party, the Islamist Parti Islam Se-Malaysia (PAS).

“(Muhyiddin) has in a sense yielded the platform to his partner party PAS in championing the fate of his coalition. But now, having his somewhat triumphant spirit reinstalled, I think he will be much more vocal and proactive in reclaiming the mantle of his Perikatan Nasional (coalition) in the Malaysian political arena,” Dr Oh told CNA’s Asia Now.

He added that the acquittal of the four charges means that Muhyiddin can solidify the leadership of PN for himself and for his Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) party within the coalition.

“It’s what he's aiming for primarily at the moment,” he said.

Dr Oh added the political fortunes of Muhyiddin and his coalition are rising. PN won 146 out of 245 seats up for grabs across six states in Saturday’s polls, and made headway into states held by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s Pakatan Harapan coalition.

On Tuesday, Judge Muhammad Jamil Hussin ruled that the four abuse of power charges were vague, flawed and unfounded because they did not specify the details of the offences committed.

Professor of Asian Studies at the University of Tasmania James Chin said that Muhyiddin has always maintained that the money was never meant for him. “He has made a consistent argument that this money was never meant for him personally. It was basically what we might call political funding. It was money donated to his party. It just happens that he was the president of the party, so he was there to receive it on behalf of Bersatu,” he said.

This is a “major issue” that the legal system will have to deal with – whether political parties can receive money directly from donors especially when hundreds of millions of dollars are involved, said Prof Chin.

The acquittal of the four charges will have “major implications" for the other set of charges related to money laundering, Prof Chin said.

The government is appealing against the acquittal, but if that is not successful, then the money laundering charges cannot go ahead, he said. - CNA

Meanwhile, The Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) has filed an appeal against the high court’s decision to acquit former prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin of four abuse of power charges for allegedly using his position to obtain RM232.5 million in gratification for Bersatu through the Jana Wibawa project.

AG Tan Sri Idrus Harun said the appeal against this morning’s court decision is only with regard to the four charges under Section 23 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009.

“There are still three other charges against Tan Sri Muhyiddin under Section 4(1) of the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001 (AMLA), for which the case mention at the Kuala Lumpur sessions court is set for September 19, 2023,” he said in a statement today.

Judge Jamil freed Perikatan Nasional chairman Muhyiddin, 76, after finding that the four charges were vague and baseless because they did not state the details of the alleged offences. 

Muhyiddin was accused of using his position as prime minister and Bersatu president, at the time, to obtain for the political party RM232.5 million from three companies, namely Bukhary Equity Sdn Bhd, Nepturis Sdn Bhd and Mamfor Sdn Bhd as well as an individual named Datuk Azman Yusoff.

Muhyiddin also faces two charges of obtaining the proceeds from illegal activities amounting to RM195 million from Bukhary Equity, allegedly deposited into Bersatu’s CIMB Bank account.

He allegedly committed the offence at the Menara KL CIMB Bank branch, Jalan Stesen Sentral here between February 25, 2021 and July 16, 2021; and February 8 and July 8, 2022.

On March 13 at the Shah Alam sessions court, the Pagoh MP was also charged with one count of receiving proceeds from an illegal activity amounting to RM5 million and the case has been transferred to the sessions court here for a joint trial. – Bernama

The problem with Umno is UMNO...

Many expected that Umno would do badly in the state elections, and that was actually a no brainer. Now, there are talks surfacing about the Umno leadership, especially that of Zahid Hamidi as the scapegoat of all scapegoats. What a simplistic thing to say! Then there is one supreme council member saying that Umno must review its ties with DAP in order to win over the Malays. Wah…itu macam saja kah?

So, if I were to conclude, the problem of Umno seems to be Zahid Hamidi and DAP. I will bet anything under the sun if we eliminate both Zahid Hamidi and the DAP, Umno would probably perform as bad or even worse, not better at all. I am not here to support Zahid, nor am I here to support the DAP but to show that Umno has no idea of its own 40-year history of faults when Tun M began his reign

Why did Umno lose in Kelantan? During the days of Reformasi, when PAS carried the banner of injustice to Anwar Ibrahim, I heard ceramah after ceramah on how Umno made Kelantan an “anak tiri.” In one ceramah Nik Aziz lamented that the grant from the federal offers would always come in late and development budget for infrastructure was always difficult to get from Tun M, the president of Umno then.

I also saw how Umno ridiculed PAS by saying bad things about the party’s ideas on Islam and scaring non-Malays from that party. Can such efforts be forgotten by voters now in their seventies and who advise their children? As the saying goes, what goes around comes around.

Next, let’s look at how Umno of the recent past treated the DAP. The narrative of DAP as a hantu Melayu and a pontianak to Islam has always been the pillar that binds ignorant Malay voters, whether they are from the educated side or non-educated ones. DAP is seen to be threatening everything Melayu and everything Islam.

I know many Umno leaders who were appointed to top positions in the party and in the government just because they are the loudest in being kurang ajar to DAP. Malay people love it when the Umno clowns shout and jeer at non-Malays because most Malays are “polite” and do not like to display their disdain for others in public. But Malays support people like Tajuddin Abdul Rahman, and now Sanusi of Kedah.

When Isham Jalil says that Umno needs to review its relationship with DAP, I wanted to both laugh and throw up at the same time. The analogy of the relationship was so funny and disgusting that prompted my reaction. Let’s say you moved into a new neighborhood where your next-door neighbor keeps an immaculate and clean house and garden. You, however, keep a dirty house.

So, when visitors come to your house, they cannot help but comment on the cleanliness of your neighbor’s house compared to yours. Your reaction? Oh, I must move away from this neighbor and live with neighbors that keep as dirty a house as I do and then I won’t be noticed at all. Or, you curse the neighbor for making you look bad.

Isham Jalil’s reaction is exactly this. Blame someone else. It is easier to not change oneself and make others the bogeyman. Why did Umno lose? Because of Ahmad Zahid and DAP? It’s easier to not change oneself and make others the bogeyman. Next, Umno members and voters love corrupt leaders. There is no denying that.

Look at Najib’s followers. Now look at Sanusi’s. One leader is proven to be corrupt while another is perhaps going to face the same charges. Do the Malays care that the people’s money is used to enrich Malay politicians and Malay civil servants? No, the Malays love it. Why?

Well, rich Malays show that they are as successful as rich Chinese, right? It does not matter where the Malays got the money as long as they can flash their luxury cars, castle-like houses and jewel-bedecked wives. That is success in the Malay dictionary. So, hundreds of Birkin bags with a price tag of a hundred thousand ringgit is a sign of success.

Next, rich Malays can give money to poor Malays, donate to mosques, give money to tahfizs and help many thousands perform the Hajj or Umrah. Malays have no idea about the taxes and how the collected money belongs to all citizens of all races. Why? Most of the Malays do not pay taxes! I know warung owners who can afford to go for Umrah every year and yet do not pay taxes or even help the poor of their own community.

Finally, Umno groomed 20 universities to produce Malays with mediocre qualifications so that they can just makan gaji or the worst of them become ministers and prime ministers. Any intelligent Malay will be criticized as being too progressive, too moderate, too compromising with others and too critical to accept orders blindly.

The best Malays are those who don’t read and don’t ask questions of a packaged history of Malays against the others, follow ustaz in religion without asking serious questions about compassion for all humans, works for the government, works for GLCs, and the rest become businessmen to get projects from the government from inflated costs and return the 10% back to the party as political donation.

For the academics, Umno appointed the university leadership that does not understand how knowledge can change society, the environment and a prosperous economic future. The role of the leadership is to make KPIs that have no relevance to change unless they benefit one race that supports Umno.

So, why did Umno lose? Because of Zahid and DAP? Please don’t think Malaysians are stupid! I have lived 40 years of watching Umno thrive, break, and now almost dead. Umno needs a new crop of Malays in order to change. I do not mind the election loss if Umno can actually review its moral and spiritual foundation.

Umno needs to perhaps work very closely with Amanah and MUDA to find a new frame of nation consciousness. Leave PKR and DAP on one side. Umno should ask G25 and G70 Melayu professors on how they should rethink their young Pemuda to rebuild.

Let ABIM and IKRAM work with Anwar for their Madani Islam, while Umno works with others for a new Malay that carries the spirit of Onn Jaafar, Tun Dr. Ismail, Tunku Abdul Rahman and Tun Abdul Razak.

Let Umno forge a new identity for itself and its new best buddies. I will be the first to support Umno if it can discard its past Malay base. Umno must look at a Malaysian base from Semenanjung, Sabah and Sarawak.

Leave the Hadi Malays, Sanusi Malays to themselves. There is no place in the borderless world for a tempurung Melayu but the sky is the limit for the Malays who view themselves as part of a global humanity. DAP wants one Penang

DAP has agreed to allocate one Penang exco position for Umno.The decision was made at a central executive committee meeting in Kuala Lumpur tonight. "There are two BN candidates who won in Penang, so we will appoint a BN representative from Umno to sit on the state executive council," said DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke.

Penang is headed by DAP's Chow Kon Yeow. The two BN candidates who won seats in Penang on Saturday were Reezal Merican Naina Merican (Bertam) and Rashidi Zinol (Sungai Acheh).

Saturday's six state elections had mostly been disastrous for Umno - the only BN party to contest. The party was wiped out in Terengganu - as was Pakatan Harapan - as well as in Kedah.

The electoral drubbing had stirred rebellion within Umno, with some like supreme council member Isham Jalil calling for the party to review its relationship with DAP.

Isham had said that part of the reason Umno performed poorly on Saturday was that the party's grassroots were still uncomfortable with DAP. As such, he said that Umno should review whether or not it should reserve cooperation with DAP strictly within the confines of working in the government, but not during elections.

Battered at state polls, UMNO is becoming a liability...

 

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition government fought off a major assault by the opposition in the six state assembly elections on Saturday (Aug 12) to comfortably ward off any potential threat to the national leadership. But the humiliating electoral setbacks suffered by the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO) is presenting Mr Anwar with some very awkward challenges in the coming months.

The sweeping rejection UMNO suffered in the Malay-dominated states of Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu has further cemented the widely held view that the party, which fought for independence in 1957, has been reduced to a marginal player in national politics. Of the 108 seats that UMNO and its partners in the National Front (Barisan Nasional) coalition contested in the state polls, it only won 19.

UMNO and its president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi played key roles in Mr Anwar’s rise to the premiership after the inconclusive November general elections. It was only after UMNO threw its support behind the PH coalition to establish a simple majority in parliament that other reluctant regional parties in Sabah and Sarawak followed suit and paved the way for the formation of a government with a two-thirds majority. UMNO’s crucial role in the process also afforded it senior roles in the PH coalition government. 

Now, Mr Anwar must now reconsider UMNO’s dominant role in his government. Embattled UMNO president Ahmad Zahid is one of Malaysia’s two deputy prime ministers and several party politicians occupy senior Cabinet portfolios, including the Investment, Trade and Industry and the Defence ministries. A Cabinet reshuffle in the coming weeks is not being ruled out.

To be sure, Mr Anwar’s position as premier and his government’s hold on power are in no threat. The weekend’s elections also very much retained the political landscape that held before the dissolution of the assemblies in late July. 

The PH coalition kept control of Selangor, Negeri Sembilan and Penang, while Kelantan, Terengganu and Kedah went back to the right-wing Parti Islam Se-Malaysia (PAS), which is the dominant member of the opposition Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition together with Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu).

“PH and Anwar did alright by retaining the states they controlled, and the government can move ahead. But for UMNO, I am not so sure,” UMNO’s former treasurer Abdul Zahim Mohd Zabidi told CNA, adding that rumblings of an internal rebellion in the party have already begun.“Unless there is some leadership change, UMNO is doomed,” he added.

UMNO, which ruled Malaysia with the leadership of the National Front (Barisan Nasional) coalition since independence, was kicked out of power in May 2018 on the back of widespread public anger over the international scandal at state-owned 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB). The financial fiasco subsequently led to the conviction and jailing of former UMNO president and Malaysia prime minister Najib Razak over corruption. 

Mr.Ahmad Zahid subsequently took over the party leadership and consolidated his power by removing his opponents and packing the leadership of the powerful 25-member supreme council body with his allies. But the party no longer endears itself to the Malay community and that, in turn, has become a serious problem for Mr Anwar, who is struggling to build his government’s own credentials with the majority Malay community.

Mr Ahmad Zahid’s presence in government has long been controversial because he is facing charges of corruption and the trial is ongoing. Even Mr Anwar’s closest supporters have privately stated that Mr Ahmad Zahid’s role in government undermines the prime minister’s tough stance on the abuse of power and political corruption.

Mr Anwar had campaigned in recent weeks for Malaysians, particularly the Malays who make up more than 60 per cent of the country’s 33.57 million people, to break away from the politics of race and religious rhetoric promoted by the opposition.

But UMNO leaders acknowledge that unless a leadership change takes place soon, the prospect of the party renewing its appeal with ordinary Malays is remote. “The problem is the Zahid leadership and the party will continue to be rejected as long as there is no change,” said a senior party official, who asked not to be named.- Leslie Lopez CNA

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim was successful in defending Pakatan Harapan’s strongholds in Selangor, Negeri Sembilan and Penang, but it is Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi who must take responsibility for BN’s losses in last night’s state elections.

Pasir Gudang MP Hassan Abdul Karim said even though Anwar did not manage to penetrate Perikatan Nasional (PN) strongholds in Kelantan, Terengganu and Kedah - his success in the other three states must be commended.

“Anwar as the prime minister, Harapan as a political coalition and PKR did not lose in this state election. There were some areas which fell to PN but strategically, the three states led by Harapan before this were maintained. “The one who clearly lost and needs to be responsible for the defeat of Umno in the 89 seats they contested with the BN logo is Zahid,” Hassan said in a statement today.

PN’s propaganda in their campaign is that Harapan-BN will lose badly and they will take over Selangor, Negeri Sembilan and Penang, he said, but this did not happen. PKR and Harapan remain the choice of Malaysians for the next generation, Hassan stressed.

However, he said Anwar and Harapan should review the results of the state elections closely before heading into the next general election. The most important thing the prime minister should do is to regain the support of the Malay Muslims who have clearly shifted a majority of their support to PN in this election, he added.

“Anwar should continue to be given the opportunity to take on the responsibility to save the country which is multi-racial, multi-religious from being destroyed by the extreme right-wing political leaders, among which are in PN,” Hassan said.

While Harapan-BN managed to retain its two-thirds majority in Negeri Sembilan and Penang, they only succeeded in forming a simple majority in Selangor, with PN winning 22 out of the 56 seats in the state. BN suffered heavy losses in Selangor, Penang and Kelantan and was totally wiped out in Terengganu and Kedah. PN made a clean sweep in Terengganu, winning all the state seats. - mk

Muhyiddin ordered son-in-law to flee 

& hide to prevent implicating him...

Muhyiddin Yassin’s disgraced son-in-law, Muhammad Adlan Berhan, appears to have fled the country in May. Instead of condemning the act, or at least pretend to ask his son-in-law to come back to prove his innocence in court, former backdoor Prime Minister Muhyiddin has instead issued a “no comment” statement. It’s not rocket science that Mr Adlan had been ordered to run away.

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Chief Commissioner Azam Baki confirmed that besides tracking down 48-year-old Adlan, the authorities are also hunting down 69-year-old lawyer Mansoor Saat. Both fugitives were linked to a scandal involving irregularities in the registration, recruitment and biometric storage of foreign workers in the country.

As a result, the MACC has asked the Immigration Department to freeze the passports of the two men, as well as seeking the help of Interpol in tracking down the two crooks. Apparently, the graft busters were forced to take the action after attempts to contact both individuals failed. If indeed Muhyiddin’s son-in-law was innocence, why fled the country in the first place?

After the MACC’s revelation, Adlan’s attorney denies that his client has fled Malaysia to escape questioning from the anti-corruption agency. However, the half-baked denial invites more questions than answers when attorney Baljit Singh Sidhu said Adlan will return home only if he is not persecuted. Going by the silly logic, every criminal could use such excuse to run away and escape prosecution.

Hilariously, the half-past-six lawyer also claims that his client has the right to travel and will protect his rights and liberty from being taken away. In truth, a passport belongs to the country that issued them. Therefore, the Malaysian government can freeze or cancel the passports of any suspected criminal, effectively ending the so-called rights and liberty to travel abroad.

A crook like Muhyiddin’s son-in-law has no rights, let alone liberty, to demand that he is allowed to travel unrestricted. Just like former PM Najib Razak’s partner-in-crime Jho Low, whose passport was cancelled following a request by the MACC to the Immigration Department, Adlan cannot hide abroad while claiming innocence and refused to return home to clear his name.

The despicable Jho Low too was never arrested and never called by the MACC for a meeting or to assist in any investigations before he fled the country. Yet, the whole world knows he is a fugitive who ran away from prosecution for his involvement in the 1MDB scandal. Hence, Muhammad Adlan is a fugitive like Jho Low – hiding in a foreign country for fear of being sent to prison.

If Adlan is clean and has nothing to hide, he should return home immediately and bravely face the judiciary system, and not using the freezing of his account as an excuse to accuse the MACC of harassment and persecution. After all, MACC chief Azam Baki was appointed under Muhyiddin administration. Is Adlan trying to say that the MACC was fair and clean only when his father-in-law was in power?

Obviously, he had decided to run away after being ordered to do so. And the man who told him to temporarily hide in overseas was Muhyiddin himself. But why did the ex-premier tell his son-in-law to abscond? It’s not hard to see that it is an attempt to avoid of stall investigation over Adlan’s corruption and money laundering on behalf of Muhyiddin.

On January 5 this year, the MACC arrested a chief executive officer of a private company. The 42-year-old man – Adam Radlan Adam Muhammad – was detained over his role as “middleman” in brokering government projects related to Covid-19 stimulus packages worth RM92.5 billion (US$21 billion) in exchange for bribes. He turns out to be Muhyiddin’s right-hand man.

A former chief executive of Maju Assets Sdn Bhd, Adam is also Segambut divisional leader of Muhyiddin’s political party – Bersatu (Malaysian United Indigenous Party). The best part is Adam is the cousin of Muhyiddin’s son-in-law, Muhamad Adlan Berhan, who in turn was involved in several scandals as part of a web of Muhyiddin cronies of corruptions.

Adlan married to Muhyiddin’s daughter, Nabilah, who is a shareholder of Agathistwo Jia Sdn Bhd, a company involved in the scandalous RM1.2 billion NIIS (National Integrated Immigration System) concession. The NIIS was hatched by Muhyiddin (then-Home Minister under the Pakatan Harapan government) after cancelling its predecessor Sistem Kawalan Imigresen Nasional (SKIN).

Adam Radlan – Arrested By MACC

Muhamad Adlan was also linked to 1BestariNet, a 15-year project worth RM4.47 billion introduced by then-Education Minister Muhyiddin in March 2011 to provide 4G broadband connectivity and virtual learning environment (VLE) to 10,000 government schools nationwide. However, the “failed project”, awarded to YTL Communications, has been plagued with slow internet access and problematic Frog VLE, which could easily be replaced with Google Classroom.

Now, the MACC is investigating the possible abuse of power in the award of contracts for Muhyiddin’s son-in-law in the NIIS project, which could lead to the former prime minister charged and jailed. So, crooked Muyiddin is facing two scandals – money laundering in the RM92.5 billion Covid-19 stimulus packages and corruptions in the RM1.2 billion NIIS projects.

Actually, the RM5.7 billion Jana Wibawa is the third scandal involving Muhyiddin. But during his questioning, Muhyiddin has pointed his fingers at his self-appointed finance minister Tengku Zafrul. He argued – “Jana Wibawa was a programme by the Ministry of Finance proposed by Zafrul to help Bumiputera contractors during the Covid-19 pandemic”.

Adam Radlan’s involvement in Muhyiddin’s web of cronyism, nepotism and corruption was exposed after Muhyiddin-led Perikatan Nasional coalition failed to form a government post 15th General Election. And this is precisely why the power-hungry and corrupted ex-PM desperately wanted to return to power by hook or by crook – to “cover up” the skeleton in the closet.

But the biggest problem was his son-in-law’s key role in the RM1.2 billion NIIS (National Integrated Immigration System) scandal. The MACC had begun investigating the case years ago and basically has established the money trails which could easily implicate Muhyiddin if his son-in-law talks like a canary. So, in order to keep Muhamad Adlan’s silence, he was told to flee and hide.

Muhyiddin’s, whose given name is Mahiaddin, plan was to hide his son-in-law at a secured location and hopes opposition Perikatan Nasional could win big in the upcoming six state elections. Only with Muhyiddin returning as PM can Adlan return home, and all his charges dropped. Muhyiddin knew that once the trial starts, all his past dirty wheeling and dealing would be exposed.

In the same breath, it also suggests the Perikatan Nasional chairman lacks confidence that the opposition can grab Selangor, Penang and Negeri Sembilan from Anwar-led Unity Government. Otherwise, Muhyiddin would not have told his son-in-law to run away as it could backfire spectacularly due to perception that Adlan was the ex-premier’s bagman. - FT

Syahir hanya bercakap 

kepada orang Bachok...

Saya menonton Debat Ekonomi antara Syahir Sulaiman daripada PAS-PN dengan Rafizi Ramli, menteri ekonomi dengan perasaan menggebu-gebu. Saya ingin mendengar konten Model Baharu Ekonomi Malaysia daripada Syahir. PAS adalah bekas parti lama saya. Kalau-kalau PAS, diwakili Syahir yang disebut-sebut pemimpin muda dan galak parti tersebut itu betul ada isinya. Saya tidak mahu mempedulikan sangat Rafizi Ramli. Saya sudah banyak membaca hujahan beliau. Yang saya mahu mendengarkan ialah tawaran ekonomi PAS.

Akan tetapi Debat Ekonomi yang sepatutnya menawarkan gagasan dan wacana yang dinantikan itu ternyata meleset sia-sia. Syahir kelihatannya tidak perlu model ekonomi apa-apa. Dia menjadikan Debat Ekonomi yang sepatutnya tepu perbahasan hujah menjadi seperti medan sensasi TikTok. Nanti semua karut-marut Syahir itu boleh dipenggal-penggal dan ditabur di grup WhatsApp.

Yang betulnya, ketika Debat Ekonomi itu, Syahir hanya bercakap kepada orang Bachok dan sejenis dengannya. Dia bercakap kepada Melayu surau. Maka dalam ucapan beliau, tidak ada model. Tetapi ada renjis ayat suci al-Quran dan hadis kerana Syahir tahu siapa sasarannya. Jika kita membaca hansard Dewan Rakyat yang merekodkan perbahasan YB PAS dari dulu hingga sekarang (minus mereka yang telah menjadi Amanah) kita akan beroleh konten seperti yang Syahir kemukakan dalam Debat Ekonomi pada 9 Ogos 2023 lalu. Untuk menghiasi hujah, biasanya wakil PAS akan ada perli sindir. Demikianlah PAS sampai bila-bila, tetap adalah PAS. Iaitu kering-kontang dan kosong. Mungkin hanya senyum Syahir yang sedikit manis menggodakan ramai muslimat itu akan tertinggal basah untuk dikenangkan.

Demi menjadikan argumen Syahir bermutu, dia akan menyandarkan kepada Islam. Sebab? Ya, sebab susah menyanggah Islam. Kalau membantah “keberkatan”, “rezeki”, “penolakan riba” maka itu nanti natijahnya tidak Islam. Maka Syahir memetik Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat. Sebab Almarhum seorang ikon. Orang akan terhibur dengan cerita. Orang rasa bahagia dengan cerita-cerita yang Syahir turunkan. Cerita itu bila dipotong sunting dan dihantar ke TikTok boleh tular. Kemudian untuk menutup kegagalan berhujah, Syahir bercerita-bercerita-bercerita dan tiada memberi tawaran apa-apa. Pokoknya, hanya PAS sahaja Islam. Maka inilah tawarannya, Islam. Jadi bacaan lapis kedua ialah kalau tidak mahu Islam, maka kafir; kalau kafir maka ada penampakan kaum tertentu. Itulah sifir mudah Syahir. Bahagi tolak darab campur sang bosnya, bernama Abdul Hadi.

Corak hujah dan pemikiran Syahir ini ada pada kebanyakan pemimpin PAS. Corak tersebut saya simpulkan sebagai tiadanya “semangat berfikir”. Sosiologis terkemuka negara kita Almarhum Profesor Syed Hussein Alatas pernah mengatakan ketiadaan semangat berfikir ini sebagai suatu yang menakutkan. Bayangkan kita ada pemimpin negara tetapi tidak cukup menginspirasikan. Ciritnya sahaja ditertawakan dunia.

Dek tiada semangat berfikir ini maka Syahir membangkitkan kenangan lampau, dia mula meraban memetik Tunku Abdul Rahman, Tun Razak; maka tidak perlu menawarkan kreativiti dan inovasi. Gara-gara tiada semangat berfikir maka Syahir meraban tentang jalinan serta status kerajaan persekutuan dan negeri. Seolah-olah dia tidak pernah membaca Perlembagaan. Ya “seolah-olah”, sebabnya audien Syahir bukan saya atau kamu. Audiennya Melayu surau.

Untuk Melayu surau tak apa-apa tiada semangat berfikir. Lulus tajwid, ada pulus dalam bank sikit-sikit, dan pastikan kedai runcit Cina di kampung itu kekal hanya satu pintu. Kalau nampak naik jadi dua setengah pintu maka Melayu surau akan terpekik-terlolong konon Islam terancam. Padahal Melayu surau inilah yang membeli ubat nyamuk lingkaran di kedai Cina dua setengah pintu itu.

Sebetulnya ada bahaya besar bila umat tiada semangat berfikir. Ini kerana ia akan menjadi kekangan untuk sesebuah masyarakat mencapai kemajuan daripada sebuah negara yang mundur kepada sebuah negara yang mencapai tahap pembangunan menyeluruh. Syed Hussein menyebut hal tiada semangat berfikir ini sebagai formula “bebalisme”. Fenomena “bebalisme” ini boleh meletakkan bangsa dan negara di jurang.

Bebal. Apabila rakyat mengangkat pemimpin bebal, tidak kreatif, tiada daya cipta, tidak memberi solusi atau penyelesaian. Mereka bebal kerana menjual syurga khayalan. Bebalisme ini malah boleh menutup fakta “real” seperti tiadanya air bersih untuk dibuat mandi wajib di Kelantan. Maka bila hati telah buta, benak bungkam mereka akan berbuat ketaasuban yang sama. Mereka akan percaya yang bebal itu bijak.

Sebagai pensyarah universiti, adalah amat menyakitkan hati melihat slaid model baharu ekonomi Syahir. Ada infografik sebuah rumah, yang kononnya bumbung itu kestabilan nasional, dan macam-macam lagi. Ia seperti tugasan pelajar separuh jiwa dan amat tidak bersedia. Pembentangan Syahir ternyata terlalu kebudak-budakan. Dia duduk mengulang kestabilan nasional macam orang gila. Orang waras tidak lupa PAS dalam kerajaan menutup Dewan Rakyat dan ingkar Seri Paduka Baginda Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

Jika ini tawaran ekonomis PAS, maka tidaklah menghairankan jika selama ini kerajaan Kelantan berdepan masalah saban masa untuk membangunkan negerinya. Semangat berfikir sama sekali tiada.

Tidak penting ada model ekonomi, seperti yang Syahir tunjukkan semasa debat itu, memang tiada isinya. Mesej Syahir memang untuk orang sepertinya, orang seperti di Marang dan sejenis dengannya. Dia bercakap kepada Melayu balaisah. Tak perlu pun dalam ucapan beliau itu sebarang model. Cukup ada tafsir ayat suci yang entah kena konteks atau tidak itu. Tak perlu ada model. Tetapi yang mesti ada; ada biar kuyup lencun ialah ayat suci al-Quran dan hadis kerana sekali lagi Syahir tahu siapa sasarannya.

Untuk menghiasi argumen yang memang tiada kontennya itu, biasanya wakil PAS akan lepaskan satu dua perli. Lepas menghenjut satu dua sindir, Syahir akan senyum sebab serasa dia semacam berjaya mematuk dan memagut. Senyum Syahir tersipu penuh gula ala-ala abang exco Persatuan Mahasiswa Islam UM, UKM, UTM dan UPM yang sedikit lemak menggelorakan dada ramai muslimat itu akan tertinggal basah untuk dikenangkan, sehinggalah nanti siaran televisyen dimatikan.Lain, memang tak ada apa-apa. MACC on the hunt for duo, 

including Muhyiddin's son-in-law...

The MACC is on the hunt for two individuals to assist in investigations into a project regarding the registration and storage of biometric information for foreign workers.

One of them is Muhammad Adlan Berhan, 48, who is Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin's son-in-law. Muhammad Adlan's last known address was Lot 65, Sunway Kiara Hills, Jalan 32/70A Desa Sri Hartamas, Kuala Lumpur.

The second individual is Mansoor Saat, 69, with a last known address at 5, Jalan SS19/1C, Subang Jaya, Selangor.

According to the MACC, the duo had left the country on May 17 and 21 respectively. There was no record of them returning to the country. Anyone with further information about the duo can contact investigating officer Nur Muhammad Amin Jamaluddin at 03 8870 0799 or 016 4322 699 or at amin.jamaluddin@sprm.gov.my.

In February, Muhyiddin has denied allegations that Adlan or any of his family members were involved in IRIS Corporation Bhd, which won the National Integrated Immigration System (NIISE).

The contract was awarded in March 2021 and was valued at RM1.2 billion. Muhyiddin said he was not involved in the award of the project because it was handled by the Finance Ministry through open tender.

Vincent Tan demands Sanusi 

apologise, pay RM200m...

Berjaya Group founder Vincent Tan has issued a letter of demand to Kedah caretaker menteri besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor, demanding a public apology and for him to pay RM200 million in compensation.

This is over Sanusi’s claim of impropriety between the tycoon and Selangor caretaker menteri besar Amirudin Shari over the Klang River cleaning project.

In the letter issued through the law firm Pierre Chuah & Associates, Tan’s lawyers asserted that Sanusi’s claims are “plainly false, untrue, unwarranted, unsubstantiated, malicious, and mischievous statements against our client”.

They also demanded Sanusi to retract his claims and make a written undertaking to cease repeating them.The letter gives Sanusi until the close of business tomorrow to agree to their demands.Otherwise, the lawyers said they have Tan’s instructions to proceed to take legal action against him.

The lawyers warned that Sanusi’s claims may be liable to action under Section 499 of the Penal Code for criminal defamation, which is punishable with up to two years imprisonment, a fine, or both.

“Accordingly, our client reserves the right to lodge a police report against you,” they said in the letter dated Aug 4.

In a speech during a Perikatan Nasional (PN) ceramah in Jitra, Kedah, on Aug 2, Sanusi claimed that Selangor could incur losses of up to RM180 million because of the Selangor Maritime Gateway project.

He also questioned how Tan could acquire a significant stake in a Menteri Besar Selangor Incorporated (MBI-Selangor)-owned firm.

Both Amirudin and Berjaya Land chief executive officer Syed Ali Shahul Hameed have denied Sanusi’s claims and threatened legal action. Despite legal threats, Sansui told Malaysiakini on Saturday that he will prove his claims in court. - mk

Dominic Lau Hoe Chai might be the most clueless and incompetent president of Parti Gerakan Rakyat Malaysia. Still, as the president of Gerakan, a component party of the Opposition Perikatan Nasional coalition, he should at least be accorded some respect. To shoo him away from a campaign rally by his own partner – PAS Islamist party – is indeed humiliating.

To make matters worse, Mr Lau was a Perikatan Nasional deputy chairman and the Penang Perikatan Nasional chief. But very few feel sorry for the Gerakan president, who swallowed the hook, line and sinker when he foolishly believed that Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS – Parti Islam Se-Malaysia) under the leadership of Abdul Hadi Awang would not oppress people of other religions.

The drama started when Dominic Lau, who showed up uninvited at a Perikatan Nasional “ceramah” (election rally speech) in Sungai Dua, was rudely told to “fuck off”. Here’s the best part – he was chased away by a small potato, Penang PAS secretary Iszuree Ibrahim. Iszuree was supposedly the PAS candidate for Bayan Lepas seat in the upcoming six state elections.

However, the Penang state constituency was “hijacked” by Lau, leaving the PAS leader mad and furious. Bayan Lepas, consisting of about 64% ethnic Malay, 30% Chinese and 5% Indian, would have been an easy win for PAS. Now, you can bet your last penny that Iszuree will sabotage Lau. The PAS little Napoleon would rather cut off the nose to spite the face just to teach Gerakan a lesson.

Even if the Gerakan president was not an invited guest at the PAS event hence unqualified to sit among PAS VIPs on the stage, the organiser should at the very least accord him some respect by offering him a front row seat. That should be part of Malay culture or Islam teachings when an uninvited guest suddenly shows up. But Dominic Lau was treated worse than a dog by PAS.

Not even PAS vice-president Idris Ahmad, who was one of the speakers at the ceramah, saw it necessary to invite comrade Lau a seat, leaving him to fend for himself as Iszuree fiercely threatened “uninvited people” to leave. To save face, Mr Lau had initially denied that he was being kicked out. He had even claimed that Hadi wanted to meet him at 9pm, but was late so he had to leave.

If indeed Gerakan was a valuable asset to begin with, the PAS president would not have made Dominic Lau wait like a beggar. At the very least, Hadi’s minions would have received order to treat the Gerakan chief like a VIP instead of a pariah. But beggars can’t be choosers. Thick-face Lau knew he depends on Malay votes, so he willingly gets insulted and bullied.

When video clips emerged on social media showing how he was mocked, ridiculed and disrespected, Gerakan deputy president Oh Tong Keong scrambled to do damage control. Mr Oh was instructed by Mr Lau to demand an explanation from PAS why the Gerakan chief was barred from attending the event. The contradiction and flip-flopping make Lau looks like a fool.

Today, PAS apologised for disrespecting Lau, who happily accepts the apology. However, the damage has been done. The Chinese community could not help but laugh at the spineless Gerakan president. Not only the pathetic man refused to defend his own dignity, the disgraced coward actually cooked up a silly story to defend PAS even after he was slapped in the face.

PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan admitted that Dominic Lau should have been welcomed to the event and treated as a guest, in accordance with Islamic principles. Meaning not only PAS has been rude and un-Islamic, but also an admission that the Gerakan president does not have the balls to reprimand a junior PAS leader, so much so he had to run away and hide.

It was already bad that Gerakan, claiming itself as a liberal multiracial political party, is part of Perikatan Nasional coalition which subscribes and even promotes racist hatred, religious extremism, xenophobia and all forms of bigotry. It becomes worse when party president Dominic Lau – barred from attending the Islamic party’s gathering – could only ask how high when PAS told him to jump.

Hilariously, the same shameless and deplorable Gerakan has the cheek to lie to the people of Penang that gambling and alcohol sales in the island will not be banned if the opposition wins the state election. It should stop insulting people’s intelligence, especially the ethnic Chinese. How can Gerakan stop PAS from oppressing the minorities when it can’t even stop its own president from being bullied?

Unlike previous Gerakan presidents like Lim Chong Eu or Lim Keng Yaik, you don’t need a rocket scientist to tell that Dominic Lau Hoe Chai is a eunuch worse than Malaysian Chinese Association’s (MCA) president Wee Ka Siong. At the very least, eunuch Wee has the balls to criticize political master UMNO, even though MCA depends on UMNO for safe seats.

In the same breath, PAS’ arrogance makes the United Malays National Organization (UMNO) looks like a great party. At least, the Malay nationalist party had never told junior partners like MCA or MIC (Malaysian Indian Congress) to fuck off when they came to attend its gatherings. No matter how useless MCA or MIC was, UMNO-Malay shows greater respect for friends compared with PAS-Malay.

With friends like PAS, who needs enemies? The Malaysian Islamic Party, currently the largest political party in the country, has very little respect for non-Muslims. It had already banned gambling and alcohol in all the states (Kedah, Perlis, Kelantan and Terengganu) it administers. And chances are it will slap the same restrictions on Penang and other states it hopes to topple.

Gullible voters, especially young Malay voters influenced by fake news and propaganda in TikTok, have no idea the type of destructions that Perikatan Nasional will do to the economy under the pretext of Malay-Muslim government. In fact, under the illegitimate backdoor PM Muhyiddin Yassin, the regime had even shut down the Parliament just so that they can cling to power and steal money in the RM600 billion Covid scandal.

PAS has done an excellent job in destroying Kelantan and Terengganu, with Perlis and Kedah following suit. Traitors like Dominic Lau and other Gerakan leaders are a disgrace to the Chinese community for lying through their teeth that the radical Islamic party is not a threat to the minorities. The only reason PAS had to apologize is because the state elections are less than 2 weeks away.

The good news is the political drama will help Anwar-led Unity Government wins the Bayan Lepas seat. Despite Takiyuddin’s half-baked apology, the bad blood between Gerakan and PAS at the grassroots level has deteriorated beyond repair. Even if Hadi Awang orders PAS members to support Gerakan, followers of Penang PAS secretary Iszuree are expected to quietly sabotage Lau.

Thanks to “green wave” in the November 2022 General Election, power-hungry PAS leaders are incredibly convinced they could win every Malay-majority constituency that they see no reason to give away seats like Bayan Lepas to “kafir” like Dominic Lau. The latest conflict shows how greedy PAS is compared to UMNO, who willingly gave away safe seats to lapdogs MCA and MIC.

Gerakan is learning fast that it’s not easy to get crumbs in Perikatan Nasional. Make no mistake – the fiasco is far from over. While the top leadership has decided to award Bayan Lepas to Gerakan, it fails to satisfy the grassroots essential in moving and greasing the machinery on the ground. The silence from PAS top leadership also suggests that Bersatu and PAS were not on the same page.

PAS could easily ask the culprit, Penang PAS secretary Iszuree, to apologize and ends the drama, but it didn’t. This could mean two things. First, PAS president Hadi wanted to teach Bersatu president Muhyiddin a lesson by not helping Gerakan. Religious extremist Hadi did not want to give Bayan Lepas to Dominic Lau, who got the seat due to his close relationship with Muhyiddin.

Second, the Islamic party is fast transforming into a monster with little Napoleons like Iszuree flexing muscle that even PAS top leaders dare not offend. This explains why PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin was forced to apologize instead of the junior Penang PAS secretary. Interestingly though, PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man has rejected Gerakan’s demand for an explanation.

With PAS grassroots in full swing to boycott Gerakan, it’s game over for Lau even before polling starts. Without the support of 64% Malay voters in Bayan Lepas, it’s hard to see how he can win. More importantly, PAS’ bullying and Gerakan’s spineless leadership would encourage Chinese voters to come out and send Dominic Lau to oblivion. -FT

 

Pemikran PAS tidak sesuai di negera ini...

5 kali saya menonton klip video Dominic tidak dibenarkan hadir atau dihalau dari majlis Ceramah Perdana PN. “ Tak boleh kamu boleh pergi…”! Saya bukan penyokong PN tetapi saya benar2 simpati dgnnya. Saya tidak sanggup melihat wajah seorang Presiden Parti komponen dihalau oleh rakan partinya sendiri. Sdgkan rakan Presiden partinya yg selalu duduk semeja di mesyuarat tertinggi parti berada di atas pentas.

Saya pasti situasi ini benar2 merunsingkan Bersatu. Strategi Bersatu itu betul iaitu meletakkan seorang Presiden di kerusi selamat bagi mewakili kaum Cina di  Pulau Pinang agar PN tidak dilihat sebagai parti satu kaum.Sepertimana PAS dahulu meletakkan Mat Sabu, Dr Hatta Ramly atau skg Wan Ahmad Fayhsal di Kelantan. Ia bagi membolehkan mereka berada di Dewan Rakyat. Saya yakin Muhyiddin mahupun Azmin dan Hamzah tahu strategi kempen perkauman yg keterlaluan ini akan memakan diri. Terbukti ia berlaku kpd rakan komponen mereka sendiri. 

Muhyiddin tahu strategi sentimen MELAYU ini tidak akn diterima oleh Melayu bandar, masyarakat Borneo ( Sabah/Sarawak) dan bangsa bukan Melayu di Semenanjung. Muhyiddin juga tahu PN tidak boleh menjadi kerajaan tanpa sokongan pelbagai kaum di negara ini. Beliau hanya boleh menarik parti Sabah dan Sarawak dgn cara ‘scheme of things’ yang dijadikan asas politik Perikatan Nasional (PN). 

Namun apa pilihan yg Muhyiddin ada? Mahu bekerjasama dgn PH? …dia mahu menjadi Perdana Menteri. Lalu dia seret PAS utk menolak menubuhkan kerajaan Perpaduan. Muhyiddin yakinkan Hadi mereka sudah cukup jumlah. Malah PN membuat provokasi bahawa kerajaan Perpaduan akn tumbang bulan Januari, bulan Ramadhan, selepas Raya dan terbaru Ogos. Sebenarnya provokasi itu bukan sahaja utk menyakinkan org Melayu yg pro PN terutama ahli PAS tetapi menyakinkan Hadi dan pemimpin2 PAS utk terus setia dgn Bersatu. Tanpa PAS parti Bunga ini tidak mampu memenangi walau satu kerusi.

Peristiwa yg berlaku kpd Dominic pasti akan membuka mata Presiden MCA, Wee Ka Siong. Wee Ka Siong tahu ideologi PAS tidak akn diterima bangsa Cina. Tapi dia seperti Muhyiddin tiada pilihan kerana dia tahu MCA sgt lemah berbanding DAP. Bila Dominic dihalau dlm kempen pilihanraya… Wee Ka Siong mesti sedar mereka juga akn menerima nasib yg sama.

Datuk Johari Ghani yg agak ‘dingin’ dgn kerajaan Perpaduan… terbaru secara terang terangan memberitahu pada awalnya dia tidak yakin dgn kerajaan Perpaduan tetapi kini tidak lagi.

Jo Ghani baru2 ini menzahirkan rasa terkejut dan menaruh harapan penuh melihat keihklasan PH bekerjasama dgn UMNO khasnya.

Jo Ghani terkejut apabila di Selangor PH sanggup menyerahkan 7 kerusi kpd UMNO. Lebih mengejutkan DAP sangggup menyerahkan kerusi selamatnya kpd UMNO. Sdgkan di dlm PN, penyokong PAS sabotaj dan malah menghalau Presiden parti komponennya dari menghadiri ceramah Mega mereka.

Ideologi kebencian yg kita tahu fitnah, maki hamun, body shaming, perkauman dan memainkan sentimen agama ia ‘bahaya’ utk masa depan sebuah negara yg berbilang kaum. Pelbagai peristiwa dpt kita lihat… pemimpin mereka seringkali didakwa di mahkamah kerana memfitnah hingga tewas kes saman. Sdgkan mereka mengaku pejuang Islam.Tetamu dtg bukan tidak disambut malah dihalau. Yg dihalau itu adalah rakan perjuangan mereka. Sdgkan mereka mengaku pejuang Islam. 

Peristiwa berlaku kpd Dominic itu kerana pemimpin PAS sendiri sudah tidak mampu mengawal perasaan kebencian ahlinya yg ditanam kebencian antara kaum. Saya dpt lihat raut wajah Idris Ahmad yg terkejut dan tidak bersetuju dgn tindakan Setiausaha Pas PP. Menurut Malaysiakini, ketika Idris hendak mengiringi Dominic ke atas pentas, Setiausaha PAS Pulau Pinang Iszuree Ibrahim menuju ke arahnya dan dgn tegas memberitahunya, “Yg tidak diundang, sila tunggu sini."

Ada yg cuba membantah tetapi Iszuree membalas, ..”tak boleh, kamu pergi!". Idris kemudian diiringi ke atas pentas, manakala Lau sekadar memandang, dan mengekalkan senyuman. Apa terjadi kpd Dominic ia tak ubah sepertimana filem Pendekar Bujang Lapuk. Ramle, Sudin dan Aziz ditanam ketaatan tanpa perlu bahas sehingga menjadi taksub kpd guru mereka Pendekar Mustar. Akhirnya ia memakan diri kpd Pendekar Mustar apabila perkara yg benar2 berlaku dianggap ‘COBAAN’.

Jika Muhyiddin bersetuju dgn corak pemikiran yg ditanam ke minda ahli PAS hanya kerana cita2 utk menjadi PM… beliau sebenarnya sdg membawa Malaysia ke belakang dan malah ‘kehancuran’ . Negara Malaysia ideologi yg ditanam ke minda org Melayu dgn sifat perkauman hanya membuatkan negara ini tidak boleh menjadi sebuah negara maju. Tanpa perpaduan antara kaum dan pemikiran ektrimis bangsa dan agama…. negara Malaysia hanya akn menuju kehancuran. - Norman Radzuan
