Why does Najib want to debate, now?...

When former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak wants to debate, you know something’s not right.

In the past, Najib’s government never accepted any offer to debate. He famously said that debate is not our culture. He never accepts debate offers, let alone offer them. To initiate a debate against DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang now is strange.

I think it’s because Najib understands one concept: A political debate is never about the debate, it is about performance. It’s not an intellectual exchange, it’s a showcase of rhetoric.

A politician would consider a debate successful if he’s able to sound good, go on populist overdrive to a roaring crowd, and humiliate and embarrass his debate opponent. He doesn’t have to engage with the finer points from the other side; he doesn’t even have to make sense.

So it doesn’t matter whether the debate topic is “How Malaysia became a global kleptocracy and how we can become a leading nation of integrity” or something else. Najib insists that the debate will not be limited to this topic because he knows: a political debate is not about the debate, it is about performance.

When you are in the opposition, you do not appear in the mainstream media every day. That is why public debates become important to push Najib back into the public imagination. He needs a public performance to remind people he is still there.

And Najib will be focusing on two key performance metrics in this debate. First, to insist that the government is controlled by DAP. Second, to bring his court cases from the court of law to the court of public opinion.

To show the government is controlled by DAP

First, Najib and his cyber troopers have frequently insisted that the government is controlled by DAP. His Facebook posts always pivot towards the “government equals DAP” angle, and many WhatsApp groups have continued propagating the false nightmare of a Chinese takeover.

This line of propaganda works most effectively. Every post that plays on this insecurity guarantees higher-than-usual online traction. The reality of having a non-Malay finance minister, attorney-general and chief justice strengthens the insecurity, even though there is no real and apparent threat towards the racial stability of the country.

Additionally, Najib must play on this narrative to keep his political career alive. Since losing government, Najib will no longer be trusted in any talk about policy and governance. The remaining space for any fallen kleptocrat is on identity politics that are divisive and irresponsible - to stay at the fringes where extremism and fear are played with fire.

That is why Najib had deliberately chosen Kit Siang (photo, above) and no one else. If it is Kit Siang, it is easy to draw the line of government-DAP-Chinese-communism. It is easier to incite bitter memories of the days where the government was nearly lost to Chinese control.

Najib could have picked a member of the government who had a better sense of the goings-on on government policy, but it had to be Kit Siang. Because nothing would help advance Najib’s right-wing credentials like contrasting himself to Kit Siang.

Bringing the court to the public

Second, Najib is interested in using the public debate to win his case in the court of public opinion. Often, politicians would prefer to try their cases in the court of law where the truth has a higher chance of prevailing without undue influence of emotions and irrationality. A court that has rules of evidence that determines relevancy, admissibility, witnesses, documents, proof, presumptions and corroboration would likely ensure all parties get their chance to speak the truth.

The problem for Najib is that the truth is not favourable to him. He needs a platform where he could have his own version of the truth so that the public could be manipulated into believing that he isn’t guilty. Najib could use the public debate to proclaim his innocence and claim that he is a victim of the Pakatan Harapan administration - DAP’s administration. And when he is finally found guilty, he could attempt a martyrdom and cry victimhood.

He doesn’t want the truth to be determined by the court of law; he wants to determine the truth like he’s the God of all.

In the end, the public debate would only help consolidate Najib’s right-wing flair and mislead the public on his guilt.

The plight of principle

There’s a need to protect the higher principle of encouraging public debates. Making debates our culture is a good thing: it is intellectually valuable in encouraging a thinking society; it is democratically valuable in evaluating the speaker’s honesty and sincerity; and it is socially valuable in providing oratory and stylistic entertainment.

To have the first public debate between heavyweights Najib and Kit Siang is also good in drawing maximum public attention. But I fear.

I fear that the good that comes out of this debate will be minimal compared to the harm. If we think about how Najib may manipulate the entire debate for his self-centred interest, then the benefits of upholding the principle of having a public debate seems minuscule.

Kit Siang now refuses to debate Najib coz...

When former Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak, challenged me to a debate in an interview with Free Malaysia Today on Tuesday, my foremost thought was whether one should debate with a kleptocrat and a pathological or habitual liar.

I had added that if there is a debate, probably the best subject is “How Malaysia became a global kleptocracy and how we can become a leading nation of integrity”.

Najib did not mind being called a kleptocrat and a pathological or habitual liar, and agreed immediately to the topic, although he added cryptically: “But in fairness, we should also discuss other topics during the debate.”

In response, I said I was appointing Syahredzan bin Johan, my political secretary and Ahmad Faiz Mustafa, my parliamentary liaison officer, to liaise with Najib’s officers to finalise details of the debate after Hari Raya.

I also welcomed Malaysians who have views on the subject “How Malaysia became a global kleptocracy and how we can become a leading nation of integrity” to email their views and suggestions at limkitsiang@gmail.com.

For the past 48 hours, I had been inundated with an avalanche of advice through email, WhatsApp and even by phone, including by Malaysians from overseas, 99% of whom urged me not to debate with Najib at all.

Undoubtedly, Najib is the most malignant political force in the history of Malaysia – he is not only a global kleptocrat, a habitual liar but also the greatest threat to the vision of a united, progressive and prosperous Malaysia in his immoral, unconscionable and irresponsible support of the toxic and vicious politics of lies, falsehood, hate, intolerance and extremism to effect the worst racial and religious polarisation and national division in Malaysian history.

This is a sample of the advice which I have received –

1. From a Malay academician: “Najib has nothing to lose and everything to gain by asking you to debate. He has no where to go but up. By debating you he would have most Malays behind him. There will be only two of you and regardless your points he will win the political war. There is also a potential of a racial debate. This is a trap.”

2. From a Malay blogger: “Soalnya kenapa Najib tiba-tiba cabar Lim Kit Siang berdebat? …Sebabnya Cuma satu saja. Sebab Lim Kit Siang itu Cina dan mari dari parti DAP. Itu je…Maknanya Najib akan gunakan majlis debat dengan Kit Siang itu untuk membangkitkan sentimen perkauman habis-habisan….Sebab iu dia cabar Lim Kit Siang berdebat.”

3. “We, the rakyat cannot see any iota of benefit from this exercise. On the contrary, you will simply be extending respectability to his tarnished image. He has nothing of value to offer toward Nation building. His rightful place is in the Courts of Justice, and nowhere else.”

4. “Plse don’t do the debate. It has much more HARM than good. It doesn’t prove anything reasonable people know. Let the court decide. You can’t convince his supporters. He could even turn it into chaos and you’ll blame yourself the rest of your life.”

5. “I have been following politics in my beloved country for many years. In particular, I have been especially keen and interested in the political situation since news of the 1MDB scandal broke in 2015. I have always admired your tenacity as an opposition leader , your integrity as a person and your love for our country. I write today to implore you not to take the bait of a debate that is being dangled by our former pm Najib Razak. Any debate with Najib at this stage and in the prevailing situation of Najib being the main contributor to a historical loss of power in Malaysia, will only legitimize his undeserved status as the de facto leader of the Opposition. The proposed debate will serve to furnish Najib a public platform to rally his base and it may even strengthen his planned re entry into the powers of government. The debate may even be a fodder for the fermentation of racially divisive issues which Najib had so subtly played since the 1MDB debacle came to fore. Lastly, in my view, this debate is Najib’s attempt to portray you as the ‘real’ power behind the Pakatan government solely to rally the Malay votes to his advantage. It is a political gambit that Najib has less to lose than you.”

6. “YB Lim Kit Siang, there is no shame but instead honour in declining a debate challenge from a disgraced ex-premier when accepting such a challenge may bring more harm than good to our nation.”

7. “It serves neither you nor Pakatan Harapan to take Najib on in a debate. It will only benefit him by giving him the exposure and opportunity to whack the current government and protest his innocence and cry out that he is a victim of a political conspiracy. Gullible Malaysians may be persuaded to believe him.”

8. “I have been following the Parliament Debate since PH took over, if he is serious and have conscience he would have done it during Parliament sittings being challenged in IMDB, FGV, TH by many ministers to defend himself and past policy.”

9. “What good is it for the Malaysian public if NAJIB is made a fool and shamed by you and you are the overwhelming WINNER? To all Malaysians, he is just a DEADMAN walking with nothing to lose but to stir up doubts and racial sentiments among the Malays.”

10. “I salute you for harbouring a noble wish to do as a gentleman would do, but your target opponent has proven himself to be not a gentleman but a creature devoid of any moral compass or compunction, hence with due respect it’s extremely naive on your part to attribute even a thin glimmer of hope that Najib would, Voila!, transform into a gentleman for the debate to conform to your wishful thinking.”

In the past year, there had been a systematic and unconscionable attempt to intensify and escalate racial and religious polarisation in Malaysia.

The most recent example is the statement by a Muslim NGO leader regarding Pos Malaysia issuing a stamp featuring St. George’s Church in Penang.

The Muslim NGO leader took to Facebook to complain that the stamp was another example of how Islam was being bullied since Pakatan Harapan rose to power in May last year and that it could lead foreigners to think Malaysia is a Christian state when it actual fact, the stamp was part of a series on places of worship in Malaysia, which was first issued in 2016, two years before Harapan came to power.

As there is great likelihood that the debate on “How Malaysia became a global kleptocracy and how we can become a leading nation of integrity” between Najib and myself could be turned into a Malay vs Chinese conflict, when the battle against corruption, abuses of power and criminal conduct like money-laundering is not a racial or religious issue but an issue of good values and good governance, I have decided not to proceed with the debate with Najib.

The DAP is now a member of the Pakatan Harapan coalition government and a new discipline is needed among the component parties in the Pakatan Harapan coalition to also think of the interests of the coalition if we are to succeed in our common vision spelt out in the Pakatan Harapan general election pledge to build a New Malaysia – comprising the five pillar objectives to reduce the costs of living, achieve institutional reforms, engineer economic growth, restore power to Sabah and Sarawak and to build an inclusive and moderate Malaysia.

This is the work not of one hundred days or months but of years and decades. It calls for steadfast commitment to bring about unity, freedom, justice and prosperity to Malaysia and to all Malaysians and not deepening racial and religious polarisation or the vicious and toxic politics of lies, falsehoods, hate, intolerance and extremism.

I know my decision will be greeted with tempests of allegations that I am a coward. My 53 years of politics is an open book for Malaysians to judge whether I am a coward or not, and I am always prepared to subject myself to the judgement of Malaysians. However, there is one thing I will not compromises – the higher interests of the nation and Malaysians. - Lim Kit Siang

Watch Out Trump...

China May Weaponize “Rare Earth” To Retaliate Against U.S.’ Ban On Huawei...

In what appears to be a hit below the belt and a coordinate attacks against China in the second phase of a trade war between the Middle Kingdom and the U.S., Trump has banned Huawei. The U.S. president’s executive order effectively prohibits U.S. companies from selling semiconductors to (or buying technological equipment from) the China’s largest technology company.

By adding Huawei to the so-called Entity List, American firms are essentially disallowed from selling technology to the Chinese company without first obtaining a license from the U.S. government. Washington claimed that the ban on Huawei was due to “national security”. But every Tom, Dick and Harry knew Huawei is targeted due to the ongoing US-China trade war.

Last year, Huawei purchased a whopping US$11 billion worth of computer chips and other components from American tech firms. That speaks volumes about how much the company depends on American chipmakers, the same way the U.S. companies rely on the Chinese tech giant for access to the nation’s market share.

However, considering that Huawei successfully sold 200 million smartphones and hit 721.2 billion Yuan (US$107.45 billion; £82.38 billion; RM438.67 billion) in sales last year, it would take more than just an executive order from President Trump to exterminate the Chinese giant. David Wang, Huawei’s executive director, said that new U.S. restrictions would have little effect on the tech giant’s business prospects.

Similarly, Huawei Technologies’ founder and chief executive, Ren Zhengfei, blasted the Trump administration’s decision and insists the Chinese telecom equipment maker has done nothing illegal. Mr. Ren also said the impact of the U.S. ban on Huawei’s business will be limited, and expressed confidence in its longer-term outlook.

But the fact remains that over 30 American companies supply core components to Huawei, including Qualcomm, Broadcom and Intel. Huawei, in its attempt to calm the business community, said it actually has been preparing for exactly the situation it now faces. Huawei’s fully-owned HiSilicon Technologies, which designs core processor chips, has made plans to deal with a potential disruption in supply.

Huawei Android Chipsets

Hardware disruption is just one area which Huawei might be affected. In a stunning move that could threaten Huawei’s global ambitions to take over from Samsung as the world’s biggest smartphone maker, Google has dropped a bombshell when it announced its decision to stop licensing its Android operating system for the Chinese telecommunications firm – in order to comply with a U.S. trade blacklist.

What that means is Huawei will no longer enjoy access to Android updates. It also means Huawei will only be able to use a public version of Google’s operating system through the Android Open Source Project. A new purchase of Huawei’s phone will also lose access to proprietary apps like the Google Play app store, Gmail and YouTube.

Google, however, assures people with existing Huawei devices that they will still be able to use Google apps and download updates for them. Interestingly, the havoc of not being able to run Google apps only confined to international consumers. In China, it’s a totally different story as Huawei uses a modified version of Android that doesn’t have Google apps pre-installed, thanks to Google service blockage.

Because international shipments accounted for almost half of Huawei’s overall smartphone sales in markets outside of China, the impact could be huge in the long term. In March, Huawei revealed that it had developed its own operating system for its consumer products if there came a time it was not able to use Google’s or Microsoft’s.

So, as early as 2 months ago, Huawei already knew their gadgets would probably be targeted by Trump administration. What is unknown is whether consumers can accept the Chinese tech giant’s own developed operating system. Days ago, Nikkei Asian Review reported that Huawei told global suppliers 6 months ago that it wanted to build up a year of crucial components to prepare for trade wars.

That means Huawei may have stockpiled components to produce up to 200 million of smartphones. Knowing China, they probably have also figured out the workaround – probably via a third party – to download Android apps or services. But Beijing probably isn’t impressed with Trump’s little dirty trick of forcing American technology companies to suspend business ties with Huawei.

When the official Xinhua news agency deliberately reported President Xi Jinping’s visit to the country’s rare earth mining base in Jiangxi province on Monday, it raises eyebrows. Chinese leaders have a habit of not trumpeting what they plan to do next, but would instead let its news media do the talking. Hence, speculations that Beijing could consider weaponize minerals such as rare earth against the U.S.

Accompanied by Vice-Premier Liu He, Xi’s most trusted adviser whom was appointed as a special envoy with authority to negotiate directly on trade matters with the U.S. recently, the Chinese president’s visit to one of the nation’s major rare earths mining and processing facilities can be interpreted as sending a strong message of China’s determination and defiance against the U.S.

Rare earth is a group of metals and alloys that contain a set of 17 chemical elements that have magnetic and optical properties useful for making electronic components like computer memory, DVDs, rechargeable batteries, cell phones, catalytic converters, magnets and whatnot. Although not as rare as gold or silver, extraction and refinement of rare earth are costly and dangerous, not to mention “environment dirty”.

For example, the Asian Rare Earth factory built in Bukit Merah, Perak, Malaysia in 1982 has seen radioactive pollution and health problems – infant deaths, congenital disease, leukemia and lead poisoning – even decades after it was closed in 1992. An estimated RM100 million was required to clean up the factory and dump site in Bukit Merah.

As the world’s biggest producer – about 90% of rare earth elements of the global supply – the U.S. depended on China for about four of every five tons of rare-earths imports between 2014 and 2017. The lack of domestic rare earth supplies would undermine a competitive modern economy and a strong military for the U.S. Yes, as it turned out, rare earth is a critical component to make weapons.

Rare Earth Metal Alloy Components

Terbium, dysprosium, samarium, praseodymium and neodymium are some high-tech names of rare earth exotic elements critical in making missiles and bombs, as well as electric motors and batteries for U.S. Navy’s destroyers. Rare earth element rhenium is a key component of jet engines for U.S. Air Force’s F-15, F-16, F-22 Raptor and the F-35 Joint Strike FIghters.

Sure, the U.S. can build their own plants to produce rare earth, if they don’t mind the environmental issues. But that would take years. Blue Line Corporation, a US company, and Lynas Corp., an Australian miner propose to build the first rare-earths plant in the U.S. in years. Lynas, the world’s only major producer of rare earth minerals outside China, faces regulatory issues at its processing plant in Malaysia.

The strategic importance of rare earth in the present US-China trade war can be seen when President Trump exempted U.S. imports of rare earths from the latest round of tariffs imposed on Chinese goods. In 2017 alone, China mined 105,000 metric tons of rare earth metals, while the U.S. has only produced about 43,000 metric tons in the last 20 years combined.

Hence, the visit to a rare earth plant by President Xi sends a message to President Trump – the U.S. may lose 80% of the supply of its rare earth imports anytime from China. The issue here isn’t about the value of the rare earth imports by the U.S., but rather the supply chain. After all, the U.S. imported only US$160 million worth of rare earth from China last year.

Clearly, losing the US$160 million business is just s drop in the ocean for China. So, to retaliate against the U.S.’ ban on Huawei, China can easily deliver a deadly punch – bans export of rare earth to America. Beijing has actually weaponized rare earth before when it banned rare earth exports to Japan during a diplomatic standoff between the two countries in 2010. - FT

Adakah Najib seorang yang mempunyai penyakit suka berbohong atau sememangnya seorang kaki pembohong? Adakah bekas Perdana Menteri, Datuk Seri Najib Razak seorang yang mempunyai penyakit suka berbohong atau sememangnya seorang kaki pembohong?

Dalam wawancara dengan Free Malaysia Today hari ini pun, tidak ada lain yang dibuatnya selain berbohong. Najib mendakwa beliau telah menjawab segala persoalan yang dibangkitkan saya dalam kenyataan media saya, yang mana adalah pembohongan yang nyata.

Adakah beliau sudah menjawab persoalan saya, antaranya yang telah dibangkitkan saya dalam kenyataan saya di Sandakan pada 8 Mei lalu mengenai sama ada lawatan kempen “Malu Apa Bossku” beliau untuk membantu kempen PBS dalam Pilihan Raya Kecil Sandakan adalah wadah terbaik untuk beliau menjelaskan mengapa beliau masih terus-menerus menafikan kewujudan skandal 1MDB, meskipun sejak empat tahun lalu, begitu banyak laporan berita mengenainya dikeluarkan oleh media antarabangsa, pelbagai buku dan filem telah diterbitkan mengenai skandal 1MDB sementara 10 negara lain telah melancarkan siasatan ke atas skandal terbabit?

Dia sepatutnya menjelaskan mengenai skandal 1MDB serta skandal rasuah mega yang lain yang berlaku di bawah pentadbirannya selaku perdana menteri sebelum ini, terutamanya tiga isu yang berbangkit sejak dua hari lalu, iaitu:

1. Ucapan ulang tahun pertama 509 oleh Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad di mana perdana menteri itu berkata beliau amat “pelik” melihat Najib masih berlagak seperti orang tidak bersalah meskipun sedang disiasat berhubung skandal 1MDB dan pihak berkuasa US dan Singapura telah memulangkan sebahagian RM1.5 billion wang yang diselewengkan dari 1MDB serta siasatan pengubahan wang haram dijalankan oleh 10 negara.

2. Pendedahan oleh bekas ahli Panel Penilaian Operasi SPRM, Datuk Lim Chee Wee bahawa Najib tidak disiasat atas kesalahan rasuah ketika beliau masih memegang jawatan perdana menteri kerana beliau memecat Tan Sri Gani Patail selaku Peguam Negara, menggantikan Gani dengan Tan Sri Mohamad Apandi Ali, yang hanya mempunyai satu utama agenda selaku Peguam Negara, iaitu untuk melindungi Najib daripada siasatan rasuah.

3. Pendedahan oleh Deepak Jaikishan dalam sebuah wawancara dengan Al Jazeera bahawa isteri Najib, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor adalah “perdana menteri de facto” semasa Barisan Nasional masih berkuasa.

Najib tuduh saya obses dengannya. Beliau salah besar. Saya tidak berminat langsung dengan beliau jika beliau tidak melakukan kerosakan besar terhadap negara serta generasi masa kini dan akan datang dengan legasi kleptokrasi yang ditinggalkannya. Malah, beliau telah membawa malu kepada nama baik serta legasi arwah bapanya, Tun Razak.

Mengambil kira semua ini, wajarkah seseorang masuk gelanggang dan berdebat dengan seorang kleptokrat, seorang yang mempunyai penyakit suka berbohong atau seorang kaki pembohong?

Mungkin, subjek terbaik bagi sesi perdebatan tersebut adalah: “Bagaimana Malaysia terjerumus menjadi sebuah kleptokrasi global dan bagaimana kita boleh kembali menjadi sebuah negara terulung yang berintegriti”?

Debate on kleptocracy,let’s do it after Raya - Najib

1. R Rajagopal, pengarah urusan Golden Mineral Sdn Bhd (GMSB) sebuah syarikat perlombongan hari ini mendakwa MB Terengganu berbohong kepada media berkenaan status sebuah GLC apabila mengatakan Permint Mineral Sdn Bhd (PMSB) telah dibubarkan.

2. Baru-baru ini beliau menang saman terhadap PMSB. Jika sebuah syarikat ditutup, mana mungkin kes boleh dibawa ke mahkamah terhadapnya.

3. PMSB masih wujud dan media boleh periksa statusnya dengan SSM.

4. Pada 15 Mei lalu dan disiarkan oleh Berita Harian, Samsuri mengatakan kerajaan negeri menyerahkan soal melunaskan pampasan RM15.3 juta kepada GMSB kepada proses undang-undang. Kerajaan negeri tidak boleh berbuat apa-apa kerana syarikat itu telah dibubarkan, dan soal perundangan itu antara dua syarikat tersebut.

5. Samsuri berkata demikian ketika mengulas dakwaan Rajagopal sebelum itu bahawa kerajaan negeri menganiaya GMSB apabila PMSB enggan membayar RM15.3 juta ke atas kehilangan keuntungan GMSB seperti yang diarahkan Mahkamah Rayuan.

6. PMSB dimiliki Perbadanan Memajukan Iktisad Negeri Terengganu (Permint) dan ianya adalah sebahagian daripada tanggungjawab kerajaan negeri.

7. Mahkamah Rayuan pada September 2018 mengarahkan PSMB membayar pampasan RM15.3 juta kepada GMSB untuk 20 bulan - antara Ogos 2010 hingga Mac 2012 - ketika GMSB tidak dapat menjalankan kegiatan perlombongan di Kemaman, Terengganu ekoran pertikaian kontrak antara kedua-dua pihak.


8. Mahkamah Persekutuan mengekalkan keputusan Mahkamah Rayuan pada 14 Mac lalu.

Umno is expected to amend its constitution in an extraordinary general meeting in November, which will result in its president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and his predecessor Najib Abdul Razak automatically dropped from their positions.

The amendment is to Clause 9.9 of the Umno constitution, which says that any party leader who is facing court action will be automatically dropped from his or her position.

Najib, the former prime minister, now heads the Pekan division of the party.

According to a source, however, making this amendment will not be easy, as it needs the agreement of two-thirds of delegates at the EGM.

"What is worrying is that this action will lead to a split within Umno, since Najib and Zahid have their own following," the source said, adding that several other notbale constitutional amendments will be made.

It is learned that Umno vice president Mohamed Khaled Nordin has been tasked to scrutinise the issues pertaining to the amendment to Clause 9.9.

Deputy president Mohamad Hasan, who has served as acting Umno head since Zahid went on leave, said last month that an EGM will be held to amend certain provisions in the party constitution.

This includes granting the Sabah Umno greater autonomy, which means the chapter will be able to make its own decisions without referring to the headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.

The EGM is set to be held during the Umno general assembly from Nov 13 to 16.

Zahid, who is facing 47 counts of money-laundering, criminal breach of trust and corruption, is facing immense pressure from within Umno to let go of his post.

Najib, meanwhile, is facing multiple court trials related to 1MDB.

On the other amendments, the source said that these will include limiting office-bearers to three terms.

Individu yang membakar kereta rasmi Mufti Perlis, Dr Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin di kediamannya pada 22 Mac lalu berjaya diberkas di Jelempok, Arau, semalam.

Ketua Polis Perlis, Noor Mushar Mohd berkata, susulan itu suspek lelaki yang juga penganggur berusia 36 tahun direman empat hari mulai semalam sehingga Selasa ini bagi membantu siasatan.

Beliau berkata, pihaknya kini sedang memburu empat lagi suspek yang disyaki terbabit dalam kejadian itu.

“Tangkapan dilakukan 2.45 pagi semalam dan suspek yang juga duda mengaku terbabit dalam membakar kereta Mohd Asri kerana bermotifkan dendam berhubung pemecatan imam di negeri ini beberapa bulan lalu.

“Dia juga memberitahu terdapat seorang lagi suspek membantunya membakar kereta Mohd Asri dan mereka menerima upah RM500 daripada lelaki bernama Zaini.

“Polis kini sedang memburu rakan suspek yang digelar Mie Tomoi dan Zaini bagi membantu siasatan,” katanya ketika dihubungi hari ini.

Semenjak bila unit amal ada latihan bakar kereta orang? Sikit hari nanti jadi mcm ISIS pulak, orang pun dia bakar. Itulah akibatnya bila agama dijadikan candu.

Kepada sesiapa yang berdendam dengan mufti maka bolehlah menghubungi jabatan berikut untuk kerja-kerja berkaitan.

Jangan risau soal bayaran kerana upah yang dikenakan amatlah berpatutan hanya RM500 sahaja walaupun pada awalnya dijanjikan RM5000.

Jho Low exploits the Malay psyche...

Jho Low’s 1Malaysian Development Berhad (1MDB) scam epitomises an extremely successful exploitation of the Malay psyche. He’s an evil genius. Otherwise how do we explain his ability to ingratiate himself to a Malay Sultan at the age of 28 and soon after, the Prime Minister.

It might have been possible that the Low family had from the start wanted him to be an international wheeler-dealer hence his Harrow College enrollment. There he met boys of pedigree or who were wealthy enough to earn one. The English public schools are where young gentlemen are groomed and the rich lads made gentlemen. Jho Low is of the latter category.

That boys’ school experience must have whetted his appetite for class and exclusivity. What he lacked by way of pedigree would be made up by way of money – lots and lots of it. And what better place to start that quest than among the rich, ambitious and savvy international undergraduates of Pennsylvania's Wharton Business School?

He also acknowledged that back home, where the Malays control politics and the Chinese helm the economy, certain things are held dear. He knew for instance that vast majority of the Malays revered their rulers and held the Arab in high esteem. He knew with a ruler’s help he could easily get the politicians and the bureaucrats to work with him.

He also knew that the Malays look up to the Arabs and the latter have what he wanted – money. He would develop this as his source of strength. And he was right on the spot. With the combination of the Malay royalty, the politicians, the bureaucrats and the Arabs, he turned himself into the living, breathing wolf of Wall Street.

He portrayed himself as an international man of mystery, a ladies’ man and wheeler dealer, showering his contacts with money, expensive gifts, grand holidays and even grander abode. He knew that behind every powerful, ambitious and greedy man is an even more powerful, ambitious and greedier woman.

Thus, with the help of several of such men and women, he became the surrogate father to the Terengganu Investment Authority (TIA) and later the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB). In a matter of a few years he amassed for himself, his Malaysian, Arab and American collaborators, their wives, children and cronies, billions of US dollars in cash, jeweleries, landed properties, handbags, wrist watchers and paintings.

He hobnobbed with Hollywood actors and movie makers. He installed Riza Shahriz Abdul Aziz, the stepson of then Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Mohd Najib Abdul Razak, as an instant movie mogul. Riza is one of two children of Rosmah Mansor from her previous marriage.

While turning dreams into movies the Hollywood way, Jho Low also turned movie plots into reality in order to build a legacy and perpetuate his intoxication for wealth and power. He made forays into the political arena by organising and funding the Barisan Nasional campaign during the 2013 General Elections especially in his home state Penang.

It was at that time that he became visible and known to the political elite with his campaign extravaganza that featured Najib and the South Korean singing sensation Psy. Away from the screaming teenagers, he coaxed the 1MDB to buy lands at way above the market price in Penang. He really believed that he could topple the DAP-led state government and have Penang to himself. He would want to do better than his father, (Tan Sri) Larry Loh Hock Peng.

But his ambition was blown to smithereens when the DAP demolished the BN in Penang and Najib did worst than Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi in 2008. That was the turning point in the opposition against Najib and the BN that would see them defeated five years later. His get-rich-quick started to unravel and his favour-buying schemes in the US became the subject of investigations by the US Department of Justice (DoJ). 

He and his associates, including the rapper Prakazrel “Pras” Michael, are now facing charges of illegally funding the Obama re-election campaign – the reward of which might have included the infamous Najib-Obama Hawaiian golf game at the height of Malaysia’s big floods in 2016. He is also linked to the Republican donor, Elliot Broidy. Their handiwork is  believed to have led to Najib’s unofficial visit to the White House in 2017 to ingratiate himself to Donald Trump.

New reports suggested that Broidy and his lobbyist wife, Robin Rosenweig, had tried to negotiate with Jho Low a lobbying deal worth US$75 million.  Broidy came to Kuala Lumpur in May, 2017 to meet Najib’s people but not before calling on Jho Low in Bangkok. The curtain had fallen and the dragnet is widening. Most recently assets belonging to Jho Low’s mother, Goh Gaik Ewe, had been placed under the forfeiture order.

Jho Low is phenomenal as a deal maker and schemer. He is alleged by United States and Malaysia with the theft of US$4.5 billion (about RM18 billion) in 1MDB money. But from the historical point of view, an unscrupulous Chinese using the Malay aristocracy and ruling elite to enrich himself isn’t an oddity.

It had happened in the past and is continuing to happen today. In fact, almost always, behind every business deal involving a Malay aristocrat, there is a Chinese wheeler dealer. Even in the business of managing three mini palm oil estates of less than 500 hectares belonging to a state Islamic agency by a crown prince, his partner is a Chinese. - A.Kadir Jasin

Isu cartel dedak belum dibicarakan

Dalam page Tuan Guru Haji Hadi (TGHH) ada dinyatakan bahawa isu Kartel Dedak merupakan cerita lama dan telah lama selesai.

Pertama, saya sangat yakin Page FB TGHH dikawal oleh sebahagian besar anggota Kartel Dedak, dan mereka telah mengkambing hitamkan TGHH. Dan siapa yang berikan maklumat kepada TGHH dengan menyatakan kes ini telah lama selesai?

Kedua, bagaimana isu Kartel Dedak boleh dikatakan selesai? Sedangkan isu Kartel Dedak belum dibicarakan lagi oleh Jawatankuasa Disiplin PAS Pusat. Mereka yang berkenaan belum dipanggil walaupun sudah ada beberapa laporan dihantar kepada Setiausaha Agung PAS Pusat. 

Laporan yang telah dihantar kepada yang berkenaan sejak beberapa tahun yang lalu, namun hingga kini didiamkan. Sudah berkali-kali Dato' Takiyudin Hassan kata hendak panggil yang berkenaan untuk disoal siasat, tapi masih sepi hingga sekarang.

Lebai kena "game" dengan SPRM...

Suruhanjaya Pencegahan Rasuah Malaysia (SPRM) pada Februari lalu mengumumkan 'Tiada kemasukan wang RM90 juta dari dana 1MDB ke dalam akaun rasmi Pas'. Maka terloncat-loncatlah penyokong lebai penipu bertakbir seolah-olah parti mereka sudah bersih dari sebarang pertuduhan.

Bagaimanapun, kenyataan terbaharu SPRM yang dikeluarkan pula memberitahu kes geng lebai penipu terus disiasat selepas pengumuman tersebut.

Hasil siasatan mendapati, wang tersebut tidak dibayar terus kepada pemimpin Pas (dilencongkan ke akaun lain), sebaliknya cuba ‘diputihkan’ menerusi beberapa akaun lain terlebih dahulu.

Mungkinkah Pas belajar daripada rakan setaawun mereka sekarang iaitu Umno segala taktik licik ini? Yang pasti, hasil siasatan kes RM90 juta kini sudah berada di Pejabat Peguam Negara (AGC).

Kini AGC akan putuskan sama ada akan ada pertuduhan bagi mengheret semua pihak terlibat, baik lebai penipu mahupun penyangak dalam skandal RM90 juta itu ke mahkamah dalam masa terdekat atau sebaliknya. Adakah lebai penipu sudah masuk ‘perangkap’ tanpa mereka sedar? Sebab itu tanah orang Melayu kat Serambi Mekah kena lelong.🤣🤣🤣 - f/bk

Dr.M/Anwar unites to ensure PH’s stability and survivability...

One day, they said Mahathir Mohamad was using Lim Kit Siang. The next day, they said Mr. Lim was playing Mr. Mahathir. Now, they said Mahathir will not allow Anwar to take over. The opposition Barisan Nasional’s propaganda war machines have been so poorly-scripted and sloppily-executed that it’s an insult to the people’s intelligence.

There were many reasons why the once mighty and invincible Barisan crumbled about 12 months ago. One of them was the incorrect strategy used. The overly confident former Prime Minister Najib Razak figured the best method was to split the opposition vote. In theory, UMNO, Najib’s political party, would come off strongest in a 3-way contest.

So, Mr. Najib, with unlimited access to federal funds, easily bribed PAS Islamic Party with just RM90 million to defect from the now-defunct Pakatan Rakyat (People’s Alliance) opposition coalition. PAS tore the coalition apart in June 2015, when its president, Abdul Hadi Awang, deliberately pushed for the introduction of “hudud” – the strict and ancient Shariah criminal punishments.

As predicted, Pakatan Rakyat’s multicultural parties, the People’s Justice Party (PKR) and the Democratic Action Party (DAP) were horrified by the PAS new leader’s betrayal, just 4 months after the death of the respected PAS spiritual leader Nik Abdul Aziz. Even some progressive PAS politicians and members split from the party to create the National Trust Party (Amanah).

The DAP, PKR, and Amanah then formed a new coalition – Pakatan Harapan (PH, Alliance of Hope). The game changer was when Mahathir Mohamad, a former premier who had previously ruled the country for 22 years from 1981 to 2003, quit UMNO in Feb 2016 and formed Malaysia United Indigenous Party (PPBM), a new Malay nationalist party, and subsequently joined the Pakatan.

Still, Najib had virtually no respect for his mentor-turned-nemesis – belittling, mocking and insulting the old man almost every night during his campaign in the 14th General Election. He thought the role of PAS as a spoiler for the opposition would be his magic wand to win the election. After all, how could Mahathir compete with the supposedly God-endorsed PAS Islamic party?

Najib and his dozens of lieutenants were crushed in the night of May 9, 2018. The 3-way contest strategy backfired spectacularly. The strategy to split non-UMNO votes between PAS and Pakatan Harapan (PH) so that UMNO could get a majority of the votes didn’t work. After months of wounds licking, Najib finally admits the strategy had caused his government’s downfall instead.

As it turned out, Najib’s Barisan Nasional (BN) only managed to win 32 out of 77 parliamentary seats that had three-cornered fights. PAS had cannibalized and spoilt BN’s chances in 24 seats. So, according to the genius Najib and his advisers, the BN coalition, together with fixed deposits from Sabah and Sarawak, could actually win if UMNO and PAS had cooperated.

But it’s water under the bridge and it’s useless crying over spilt milk. Najib had also miscalculated when he let his dogs loose. UMNO thugs like Red Shirt leader Jamal Yunos was given the funding and responsibility in stirring up racial and religion sentiments among the Malays that the Muslims, Islam and Malay Rulers would lose power to the “Chinese DAP”.

The ex-PM must have thought he was indeed cleverer than Mahathir in the game of “divide and conquer”. However, his excessive racism and extremism strategy had pushed 95% of Chinese voters away. He thought he didn’t need the Chinese. Najib had brilliantly put all the eggs in one basket. He was slaughtered like a pig when he lost both Malay and Chinese voters.

After the stunning defeat, UMNO had no choice but went to PAS and begged for cooperation under the pretext of Malay-Muslim unity. The partnership would win three by-elections consecutively – in Cameron Highlands, Semenyih and Rantau. Playing the 3R cards (religion, racial and royalty) worked like a charm, until the recent Sandakan, Sabah by-election.

In spite of Najib’s huffing and puffing, his “Malu Apa Bossku (Why The Shame, Boss)” campaign was met with disaster. Unlike Peninsular Malaysia (West Malaysia), the Chinese, Bugis, Suluk, Bajau, Muslim Bumiputra in Sabah, Borneo (East Malaysia) were both shocked and disgusted of UMNO’s “Malaya style politics” – cursing and accusing DAP of being anti-Malay, anti-Muslim and anti-Islam.

DAP’s Vivian Wong emerged victorious in the Sandakan by-election with a majority of 11,521 despite a low turnout of only 54.44%. That was a bigger win than her father. Heck, even Muslim-majority areas like Kampung Sim Sim and Pulau Berhala saw a swing of 12% and 13% respectively in favour of DAP. Essentially, Sabah, Borneo has now become PH’s fixed deposit.

Out of 222 total parliamentary seats, 25 seats are in Sabah while 31 in Sarawak. Those 56 seats of fixed deposits are no longer in BN’s possession. When Sarawak BN lawmakers left the coalition to form Gabungan Parti Sarawak with 19 seats, BN was left with 60 MPs. BN later lost truckloads of MPs – either through defection to PH or went independent. As of February this year, the BN has only 30 parliamentary seats.

Without the 56 “fixed deposits” parliamentary seats from the Borneo, how could BN (30 seats) and PAS (18 seats) win additional 64 parliamentary seats to achieve the minimum 112 seats required to form the federal government? The only way is to split the PH coalition, by putting PM Mahathir Mohamad and PM-in-waiting Anwar Ibrahim at loggerheads.

Yes, the cooperation between UMNO and PAS appears to have hit a roadblock after the Sandakan by-election. The racial and religious politics do not work in the Borneo. And both UMNO and PAS are fabulously panicked. They have thrown everything, including the kitchen sink, at both Mahathir and Anwar, hoping they would fight like cat and dog.

Like a broken record, they whined and bitched that Anwar’s Royal Pardon was illegal and the PM-in-waiting is power hungry. And like a fortune teller, UMNO Acting President Mohamad Hasan said there is no way Mahathir will hand over the throne to Anwar. At the same time, they claim Mahathir was fighting a lone battle against the Malay Rulers, without any support from PKR and DAP.

They also rerun stories about Mahathir’s alleged billion-dollar business empire, telling all and sundry that the old man was a crook too. Heck, even a loser like UMNO adviser Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah has urged the party to prepare for the possibility of a snap general election, suggesting that the transition power between Mahathir and Anwar will not happen.

In reality, the transition will happen smoothly because Mahathir cannot afford to be known as a liar who breaks his promise. He also cannot rock the boat he’s in. He has reputation, integrity and dignity to take care of. In an interview with New Straits Times published on Sunday (April 7), the prime minister dropped the biggest assurance that there isn’t anybody but Anwar as the next leader.

Mahathir revealed why he had chosen Anwar instead of Najib – “I think that to have Anwar replace a person like Najib is more acceptable than to have Najib carry on, so I decided that I would work with Anwar, whatever I may have said about him, whatever he has said against me before, I knew if we didn’t work together, Najib would be the next prime minister and that would be disastrous for the country.”

The 93-year-old premier also voiced his trust in Mr. Anwar’s leadership ability – “In fact, he was the architect of Pakatan Rakyat. Of course, Pakatan Rakyat failed because they were not that cohesive. But after we came together, we were able to work much more closely. He left UMNO and he was able to bring DAP, PAS even, and his party together, so he has leadership qualities.”

And do you know why Anwar will be sworn in as Malaysia’s 8th Prime Minister? That’s because Azmin Ali, the blue-eyed boy of PM Mahathir many thought would become the next premier instead of Anwar, has suddenly come out defending Mr. Anwar against PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin’s remark that the PM-in-waiting is not fit to lead since he is a former convict.

Azmin, Minister of Economic Affairs, could just keep his silence and enjoys the show. His hostility and disloyalty toward Anwar is an open secret. There’s only one reason for his sudden outburst of support after months of badmouthing Anwar (and even his daughter Nurul Izzah) – he knew his political master Mahathir would keep his promise to hand over the premiership to Anwar.

Again, UMNO-PAS’ strategy of holding a rally against the ICERD (International Convention on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination), forcing the government to backpedal was a humiliation and a slap in the face for PM Mahathir. In a speech at the United Nations in September 2018, Mahathir pledged to “ratify all remaining core U.N. instruments related to the protection of human rights.”

How does the opposition expect Mahathir and Anwar to fight each other when they relentlessly attack, mock, insult and condemn both individuals at the same time? Such strategy would only unite the prime minister and the prime minister-in-waiting. It’s laughable to suggest that Mahathir would call for a snap general election to avoid handing over the power to Anwar.

Exactly where should Mahathir go after he rocked the boat by calling a snap election? Rejoining UMNO or join the UMNO-PAS partnership to form a threesome UMNO-PAS-PPBM alliance? If Mahathir has no issue working with a bunch of “Shariah-compliant” liars of PAS, he would have invited the Islamic party to join the government to get the two-thirds majority in Parliament he desires.

If Mahathir has no issue working or rejoining his former party UMNO, which he has repeatedly mocked as good as dead, he would have done so as early as June last year when Ahmad Zahid Hamidi met him in his office begging for forgiveness after insulting the old man’s Indian ancestry – calling him the son of Iskandar “Kutty”. - FT

Hero membodohkan Melayu...

Aminuddin memuat naik gambar sepapan setem dengan imej gereja sambil menyifatkannya sebagai satu bentuk ‘buli’ kepada umat Islam.

Dalam nada menyindir, Aminuddin menyifatkan setem itu dikeluarkan mungkin kerana kerajaan mahu ‘menarik pelancong’ atau ‘sudah habis idea untuk mereka bentuk setem'. 

“Jadi kalau ada orang luar label Malaysia sebagai negara Kristian esok, kita janganlah marah sebab memang kita dah 'gambarkan' demikian.

“Satu lagi bentuk 'buli' kepada umat islam. Hmmmmm.... Oh negaraku,” katanya.

Hantaran tersebut bagaimanapun dipadam hari ini setelah berdepan teguran dan kecaman warganet.( Nak kata apa lagi bila otaknya letak kat juboq!!!)

Sementara itu, Pos Malaysia Berhad (Pos Malaysia) hari ini menjelaskan ‘setem gereja’ itu merupakan siri setem tempat ibadat yang sebenarnya dikeluarkan sejak 2016 lagi.

Menurut Pos Malaysia, Setem Tempat Ibadat siri pertama dikeluarkan pada November 2016 manakala siri kedua dikeluarkan pada 15 Mei lalu.

Jelas Pos Malaysia, untuk siri kali ini, antara rumah ibadat yang diketengahkan ialah Masjid Jubli Perak Sultan Ismail Petra (Kelantan), Tokong Hong San Si (Sarawak), Sri Karthivel Murugan Maha Parasakthi Patchai Amman (Perak), Gereja St. George (Pulau Pinang) dan Gurdwara Sahib (Wilayah Persekutuan Labuan).
