PM Singapura sedang beratur utk beli makanan

- Ameer Azhar Fadzilan, suarakamibaru

Taman Manggis,Penang
Taman Manggis land not earmarked for public housing...

Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng today refuted claims that the Taman Manggis land was earmarked for public housing.

He said a 2001 layout plan submitted to the then Penang Island Municipal Council (now City Council) from the National Housing Department (a federal agency) showed the land was marked for "future development" without mention of public housing.

Lim said his administration felt the land at 0.40ha was too small for public housing and allocated a bigger site in Jalan SP Chelliah at some 4.45ha which was 10 times bigger for an affordable housing project.

He said an open tender was called in 2013 while work to construct 2,093 units at the new site has started with 20% being completed.

Lim also questioned Gerakan, who on Thursday showed a 2003 Penang government memo of a proposal to build a People's Housing Project (PPR) at Taman Manggis,

He questioned why no such scheme was constructed between 2003 and 2008, before Barisan Nasional (BN) lost the Penang government in 2008.

"Why was nothing done if there were such plans in 2003? Clearly this is another empty talk by BN," he said in a statement.

Taman Manggis,Penang

Lim is under investigation by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for the purchase of his home in Jalan Pinhorn here which has been linked to the sale of state land at Taman Manggis.

He also hit back at comparisons of him with former Selangor Mentri Besar Mohamed Khir Toyo who was jailed for corruption over a property purchase.

Lim pointed out that the Taman Manggis land was sold by open tender and that the former owner was neither a director nor shareholder of the company which won the bid.

He added the winning company was also not a subsidiary company of any of the former owner's company.

"For this reason, the state government and myself have nothing to hide and welcome a MACC investigation," he said.

Lim also threw down the gauntlet to BN and asked if BN leaders will open their house for a media tour, like what he did on Sunday, and make a public declaration of personal assets. - theSundaily

When it involves an opposition leader, the entire government investigating agency will jump to share a part in the investigation, and in double quick time too. What a shame. What about the lies that our No1 UMNO VVVIP makes with regards to his involvement in the twin financial scandals. Isn't the police interested in investigating? Sudah lah....double standards, and this makes the rakyat angry and a loss in confidence in our investigating agencies.- Mohd Arshad Raji Raji

Orang Malaysia semuanya baik-baik. Boleh maafkan perkara macam ni...rr f/bk

Aminulrasyid - Khalid kena bayar ganti rugi RM414,800...

Aminulrasyid-Amzah

- mk

When will RM2.6b donor come forward like my house seller?...

Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng continued his tirade against those attempting to pin corruption allegations on him over the purchase of a bungalow below market price.

The DAP secretary-general said he had nothing to hide nor did the person who sold him the house for RM2.8 million.

He then turned the tables on Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak with regard to the RM2.6 billion political donation from a yet to be identified Saudi royalty.

"The person who sold the house to me has come forward. The person who donated the RM2.6 billion has not come forward.

"I have practised all levels of accountability, that are not practised by BN leaders," he told a press conference in the parliament lobby.

The former owner of Lim's house, businesswoman Phang Li Koon, had signed a statutory declaration (SD) that the sale of her house to the chief minister was above board, and denied any links to a company which had dealings with the state government.

Her SD was read out by state executive councillor Phee Boon Poh, who is related to the businesswoman.

Lim said Phang had not read the SD herself as she did not want to meet the press.

Character assassination conspiracy

Meanwhile, Lim also accused the New Straits Times and Utusan Malaysia of character assassination.

"There is a conspiracy to character-assassinate me.

"These papers want to make corruption happen even though there is not."

He also rubbished an NST report today that said Kuala Lumpur International Dental Centre Sdn Bhd (KLIDC) had applied to change its land development terms, so that 70 percent of the land will be used for hotel and service suites, while the remaining 30 percent for hospitals.

"The land title states that 66 percent is for hospitals and the remaining for service suites.

"If you want to lie at least be a bit more clever. Don't make lies easily detected when you look at the title which anybody can get," he added.

Yesterday, Lim also threw a tantrum over NST, after the English daily published a report titled "Guan Eng flees Parliament, avoids questions on RM2.8 mil bungalow." - mk

JANGAN PUTARBELITKAN KENYATAAN DYAM TUNKU MAHKOTA JOHOR

Dr Mahathir Mohamad berhak menyaman Perdana Menteri Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak berhubung derma RM2.6 bilion.

- fmt

The bungalow that’s got everybody talking...

No one is perfect and we cannot expect perfect politicians to look after us. That is why we need systems and checks and balances to ensure compliance and minimum malfeasance and deviation. Sometimes it is about the lesser of two evils.

I believe Lim Guan Eng is a good politician and a good chief minister of Penang, despite whatever shortcomings he may have. His position has always been precarious. He faces more odds than others when trying to do what he wants for Penang and Malaysia. There are people, from within his own party, NGOs, as well as his political enemies who just cannot wait for the right moment to criticise and destabilise him.

Politicians are criticised when they do wrong, that is for sure. However, sometimes politicians are targeted when they are too impartial, straight and firm.

Lim should be very careful because he is not an ordinary politician. His colleagues may have an axe to grind. Businesspeople may be unhappy with his decisions. His political enemies may be too envious of his tenacity and performance thus far.

Accusations against him are expected. What more when a bungalow of more than 10,000 square feet was sold to him at a very attractive price. Most would capitalise on the opportunity to criticise and vilify him.

Personally I do not think Lim would have been that foolish to be involved in something so blatant. Say whatever you like, it is never easy for Opposition politicians to be corrupt in this country.

If he is innocent, he should let the process runs its course. There is no need for him to make statements which will only create more doubt and provide more ammunition to his enemies.

It is useless to say that the price of the property was agreed upon earlier unless there was an agreement attesting to it. It is also useless to say that he was not aware of the market value of the bungalow. I am quite sure whatever price transacted between the parties without duress is not a crime. Someone could have donated the bungalow to him out of respect, love and affection, for all we care.

To me, the best defence to all these allegations is for the previous owner of this bungalow to make a statement or a statutory declaration that there was no quid pro quo in this transaction that involved Lim’s performance as the chief minister of Penang. It is for the relevant authorities to investigate and validate the declaration fairly and transparently.- TK Chua,FMT.

Ahli Parlimen Petaling Jaya Utara, Tony Pua berkata, Hadi perlu menjelaskan pendirian itu susulan seruan beliau supaya umat Islam bersatu menentang DAP.

Nalla now claims media twist, after being grilled by Anwar in court...

In a surprising turn of event, Malaysian United Indian Party president Senator S Nallakaruppan today denied accusing former deputy prime minister Anwar Ibrahim of having taken RM60 million from gaming firm Magnum Corporation Bhd.

Nallakaruppan, who is on the witness stand at the Kuala Lumpur High Court, said the reports carried by the media – Mingguan Malaysia and Sinar Harian – had been twisted.

"I did not make the statement as it has been twisted," he told a packed court room.

Following this revelation, Anwar, who is conducting his own case in his RM100 million suit against Nalla, asked for a short break before Justice Mohd Zaki Abdul Wahab, saying that if this had been said earlier there is no need to proceed with the trial.

"I will discuss with the defendant's lawyer (Muhammad Shafee Abdullah)."

Earlier, when questioned by Anwar, Nallakaruppan said 30 policemen swarmed his house on July 31, 1998 and seized many items.

Anwar jokingly asked why did this happen as “you are not an IS terrorist”.

Nallakaruppan(above) said the police then wanted to find evidence that he had solicited information from the then deputy prime minister (Anwar) to be given to foreign government.

Anwar: Was this allegation true?

Nallakaruppan: No, it is not true as I do not want to implicate my friend (Anwar) as I was also threatened to admit this or be placed under the Internal Security Act. For this, I was held for 38 days.

Anwar: What happened during the 38 days of detention?

Nallakaruppan: The police tried to force me to sign a blank statement and forced me to admit that I was acting for a foreign country and that Anwar was providing me with the information. Anwar did not provide any information on the government and I refused to make such false statement or sign such blank document

This led Anwar to quip that "you must be a brave man". This led to laughter in the court room.

Anwar: Are you aware of an affidavit of Senior Assistant Commissioner II Musa Hassan who later rose to be the inspector-general of police that claimed that you (Nallakaruppan) gave me RM60 million.

Nallakaruppan: I was not aware. They threatened me with ISA, (but) I did not budge to implicate Anwar. - mk

Hadi hustles from hudud to hullabaloo...

What a remarkable line-up of strange bedfellows. Has-beens. Wannabe Arabs. Back-stabbers. ‘Devout’ Muslims with plenty to say on hudud, but not a word about punishing corrupt politicians. Back-pedallers. Misoygynists.

This new political line-up hopes to become a formidable opposition force, the ‘third force’ of Malaysian politics; but it is more farcical than forceful. The combo is more of a vanity political coalition, than a serious political entity.

The Ikatan president and former tourism minister, Abdul Kadir Sheikh Fadzir, had a joint press conference (PC) with Hadi Awang, the PAS president, about the new pact.
The Malaysian equivalent of Donald Trump (physical attributes), and a wannabe Arab. How can anyone have any confidence in this duo? Their track record is not a glittering success.

Hadi flirts with anyone whom he thinks can serve his purpose, but does not seem to realise that he is being used. He ignored the wise words of PAS’ spiritual adviser, Tok Guru Nik Aziz Nik Mat, to be wary of Umno Baru, but like Adam in the Garden of Eden, he ate the forbidden fruit, and today, his party has been banished from Eden.

For years, Hadi denied having unity government talks with Umno Baru, and when it was finally revealed that he had been having secret discussions with them, he was unashamed about his role. Is this the behaviour of a trustworthy individual?

Hadi played a major role in destroying Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) in the Kajang move and it took him a month to reveal that he did not want a woman as menteri besar.

During that time, he claimed that he could not disclose his reason for not supporting Wan Azizah Wan Ismail’s candidacy, pretending it was top secret stuff. Nothing of the sort. He is a misogynist through and through.

Habuk pun tak dak...

Hadi uses hudud as a weapon against the parties and people that PAS wants to discredit. When PAS was aligned with Pakatan Rakyat, the hudud issue was made into a political hot-potato in the final lap towards GE13. It threw the opposition coalition into disarray. Coincidence or political treachery?

Today, Hadi and Abdul Kadir want us to believe that “there are more important issues than hudud”.

Abdul Kadir is either more dense than we thought or extremely optimistic, like a woman who marries a roué in the hope that she can change and tame him.

Hadi has a bad track record, and has confirmed that he is an Umno Baru stooge and a fifth columnist.

Abdul Kadir once served as tourism and information minister, and in 2011, climbed Mount Kinabalu and said, “If I had known the place was so beautiful, I would have done the necessary to develop and improve the areas around Mount Kinabalu.”

So, is he finally admitting that he was a useless tourism minister? The rakyat knows that ministers don’t normally take an interest, unless there is a financial incentive for them.

Abdul Kadir is a spent force who is trying to re-establish his relevance. In 2012, he claimed that he resigned from Umno Baru because he did not agree with money politics.

After 56 years in Umno and Umno Baru, did it suddenly dawn on him that corruption in the party was a new phenomenon?

A distant memory

Last year, at the official launch of his party, Ikatan, The Star reported that Abdul Kadir had said, “The country’s founding fathers, Tunku Abdul Rahman, Tun Tan Cheng Lock, Tun Dr Ismail, Tun VT Sambanthan are crying in their graves at the state of Malaysia.”

Today, Abdul Kadir’s remark about past Malaysian leaders, are a distant memory.

He struck a confused tone at the launch of Ikatan’s alignment with PAS when he said, “We want to be a pact that opposes the government, by advising them.”

Really? The rakyat and various NGOs like human rights groups and Bersih, have been giving plenty of free advice, but the government refused to listen. What makes Abdul Kadir think he can make a difference?

Abdul Kadir said that Najib need not resign because he has the rakyat’s support. How desperate is the Ikatan president?

The reality is that this combo will act as a political spoiler to confuse the fence-sitters, and try to prevent people from voting for Pakatan Harapan.

Hadi has gone down in history as the man who brought Malaysia to its knees when he betrayed Pakatan Rakyat. Abdul Kadir does not seem to want to learn from Pakatan Rakyat’s painful lesson.

Some conservative Malays like to claim that they often receive divine messages. So, what should we make of this incident?

At the start of the press conference of the PAS-Ikatan launch on March 16, a power cut plunged the PAS building into darkness. Was that a divine hint?

Or a portend that PAS-Ikatan would throw us into the dark ages? - Mariam Mokhtar,mk
