Soalan politik kertas Pendidikan Moral SPM timbulkan kekecohan...

Kertas soalan Pendidikan Moral SPM pada Selasa lalu menimbulkan kekecohan kerana didakwa mempunyai motif politik yang berat sebelah.

Calon SPM mengadu bahawa kerajaan dilihat cuba mempengaruhi fahaman politik mereka menerusi kertas Pendidikan Moral dan mengindoktrinasi mereka supaya tidak lagi menyertai atau mengambil bahagian dalam aktiviti politik.

Mengimbas kembali soalan berdasarkan ingatan, pelajar berkata calon bagi kertas tersebut diminta untuk menjawab soalan-soalan berdasarkan nota ringkas dan gambar.

(Peraturan Peperiksaan melarang calon-calon daripada membawa kertas soalan keluar dari dewan peperiksaan.)

Nota itu menyebut bahawa penjawat atau kakitangan awam tidak dibenarkan mengambil bahagian dalam protes anti-kerajaan; manakala gambar itu memaparkan dua pelajar sedang bercakap antara satu sama lain.

Pelajar A sedang menampal poster mempromosikan perhimpunan anti-kerajaan dan berkata bahawa beliau akan menerima RM100 selepas selesai menaikkan poster. Pelajar B pula menasihatkan pelajar A supaya tidak berbuat demikian.

Soalan-soalan yang diajukan:

(a) Mengapa pelajar tidak seharusnya mengambil bahagian dalam perhimpunan anti-kerajaan?

(b) Bagaimana sekolah boleh mengelakkan pelajar daripada mengambil bahagian dalam perhimpunan anti-kerajaan?

(c) Kita perlu menyokong pendirian Pelajar B. Mengapa?

Seorang lagi calon SPM mengesahkan kepada Malaysiakini bahawa soalan-soalan itu ditanya dalam kertas Pendidikan Moral SPM tahun ini. - mk

Did minister have hand in politicised SPM paper...

Education Minister Mahdzir Khalid has been challenged to reveal those behind allegedly politically slanted SPM examination questions, and state if he had a hand in the fiasco.

DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang in a statement today said Mahdzir should also inform the public if the officers responsible would be punished for such “irresponsible conduct”.

Lim condemned what he described as a blatant attempt to brainwash students with politically loaded questions on "anti-government rallies" in this year’s SPM moral education paper as reported by Malaysiakini yesterday.

"(The questions) involved a not-so-subtle attempt to tell lies and demonise protest gatherings as anti-government and anti-national, even suggesting that those who participate in them are not high-minded idealists but 'mercenaries'," he said.

Noting that students were not allowed to remove the question paper from the examination hall, Lim urged Mahdzir to make public the said paper.

"(Let) parents and public judge for themselves whether the questions were appropriate and suitable - like the 'absurd' question which asked candidates what were the positive effects of queueing up to collect water during a water supply cut," said Lim.

"Why vilify civil society groups as anti-government and anti-national, as well as subtly spreading lies and falsehoods, when moral education should inculcate students with good virtues instead of being ‘brainwashing' courses?" he said.

'Second major scandal'

A SPM candidate had complained to Malaysiakini that the government appeared to be trying to brainwash students through the moral education paper and indoctrinate them, so that they would not participate in political activities.

Recalling the question from memory, the student said candidates for the paper were asked to answer questions based on a notice and a picture, alluding that participation in "anti-government" rallies is an immoral activity.

Lim pointed out that this is the second scandal involving the Education Ministry, in less than three months since Mahdzir succeeded Umno deputy president Muhyiddin Yassin.

"The first is the tragedy of the seven Orang Asli students of SK Tohoi, Gua Musang who went missing for some 50 days, ending with five dead and two alive.

"Even up to now, Mahdzir has not been able to restore the confidence of the Orang Asli people in Gua Musang in the education system as more than 50 percent of the Orang Asli parents have refused to send their children back to the school because of their safety concerns especially in Kampung Penad, Gawin, Simpor and Rekom," he said. - mk

Kepala 'Bernard Then' ditemui oleh pekerja...

Seorang pekerja yang menjalankan kerja-kerja pembersihan menjumpai kepala yang putus dipercayai milik tebusan Malaysia Bernard Then, yang dilaporkan dibunuh oleh penculiknya, kumpulan pengganas Abu Sayyaf.

Penemuan ngeri itu berhampiran bangunan majlis perbandaran di pulau Jolo, Filipina, malam semalam.

Ketua Polis Jolo Major Junpikar Sitin memberitahu portal The Star bahawa guni itu tertera tulisan "Bernard Then Ted Fen".

"Kita telah serahkan kepala itu kepada pasukan petugas tentera untuk ujian DNA," katanya.

Then, seorang jurutera berusia 39 tahun dari Sarawak, diculik dari sebuah restoran makanan laut di Sandakan, Sabah, pada Mei lalu.

Beliau dijadikan tebusan bersama pemilik restoran itu Thien Nyuk Fun, 50. Bagaimanapun, Thien dibebaskan pada 8 November.

Sweeper finds severed head in sack marked 'Bernard Then'...

A street sweeper found a severed head believed to be that of Malaysian hostage Bernard Then, who was reportedly murdered by his Abu Sayyaf captors.

The sweeper made the gruesome discovery near a municipal council building in Jolo island, Philippines, last night.

Jolo police chief Major Junpikar Sitin told The Star that the sack had the words "Bernard Then Ted Fen" on it.

"We have turned over the head to the military task force for preservation and DNA tests," he said.

Then, a 39-year-old engineer from Sarawak, was abducted from a seafood restaurant in Sandakan, Sabah, in May.

Also taken as hostage was the restaurant’s owner Thien Nyuk Fun, 50. However, she was released on Nov 8.

Yesterday, Joint Task Group Sulu commander brigadier-general Alan Arrojado disclosed that Then was beheaded as the Filipino military launched an artillery attack on the hostage-takers in Jolo.

However, his body had yet to be found but is believed to have been buried in the vicinity.

Malaysian inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar said Then's fate cannot be ascertained as yet, pending confirmation from the Philippines' authorities.

The beheading came shortly after Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak arrived in Manila for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) summit.

Najib in a Facebook posting today said all Malaysians were "shocked and sickened" by the murder of a fellow countryman.

He also called on the authorities to act against those who had perpetrated the "savage and barbaric" act. - mk

Abu Sayyaf pancung tebusan M'sia tika Najib tiba di Manila...

Kumpulan pengganas Abu Sayyaf dilapor memancung kepala tebusan terakhir yang diculik di sebuah restoran di Sandakan, Sabah pada Mei lalu.

Bernard Then Ted Fen dipancung hanya beberapa jam selepas Perdana Menteri Datuk Seri Najib Razak tiba di Manila untuk persidangan dua hari Forum Kerjasama Ekonomi Asia Pasifik (APEC).

Komander Kumpulan Petugas Bersama Sulu Brigadier Genera Alan Arrojada mengesahkan jurutera 39 tahun itu dipancung sekitar jam 4 petang di kubu kuat Abu Sayyaf di Jolo, Filipina.

Kejadian itu berlaku seminggu selepas mereka sebelum ini membebaskan seorang tahanan Thien Nyuk Fun, pengurus restoran Ocean King Seafood yang diculik bersama Then.

Kejadian dilaporkan oleh akhbar Singapura Straits Times.

Sementara itu, APEC ke-23 akan bermula esok, yang kebetulan akan turut membincangkan isu serangan pengganas di Paris pada Jumaat lalu.

Dalam perkembangan yang sama, portal Utusan Malaysia Online yang memetik sumber keselamatan berkata, kumpulan pengganas melakukan tindakan kejam itu selepas cuba melarikan diri dalam pertempuran dengan tentera Filipina di Perkampungan Bud Taran, Indanan, Kepuluan Jolo.

Then yang berasal dari Sarawak dilaporkan dibunuh pada pukul 4.20 petang waktu tempatan.

Menurut portal itu, difahamkan pertempuran itu tercetus ketika tentera Filipina cuma masuk ke kubu kuat kumpulan militan untuk menyelamatkan mangsa culik termasuk Then yang dilaporkan ditembak mati sebelum dipenggal.

Sementara itu, Ketua Polis Negara, Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar. Khalid, dalam Twitter berkata pihaknya belum dapat mengesahkan nasib Then.

Katanya, pihak berkuasa Filipina dilaporkan bertempur dengan kumpulan penculik di Pulau Jolo, petang tadi.

Abu Sayyaf kills M'sian hostage as PM arrives in Manila...

Terrorist group Abu Sayyaf has beheaded the last Malaysian hostage it kidnapped from a Sandakan restaurant in May this year, according to Singapore's Straits Times.

Bernard Then was beheaded just hours after Prime Minister Najib Razak landed in Manila for the two-day summit of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum.

The paper's portal quoted Philippines Joint Task Group Sulu Commander Brigadier-General Alan Arrojada as confirming that Then, 39, an engineer, was beheaded at around 4pm in the Abu Sayyaf stronghold of Jolo, Philippines.

The beheading came just after a week after Abu Sayyaf released another Malaysian hostage, Thien Nyuk Fun, the Ocean King Seafood Restaurant (photo) manager who was kidnapped along with Then.

The report said Then had suffered leg injuries while in captivity and had been slowing down his captors.

It added police had identified the leaders of the group behind the kidnapping to be Alhabsy Misaya, Alden Bagade and Angah Adji.

Thien was freed on Nov 8 after spending almost six months in captivity.

Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi denied that any ransom was paid but The Straits Times claimed Thien was freed in exchange for a 30 million pesos (RM7.85 million) ransom.

'Released soon'

Zahid had on Monday said the government was working to secure Then's freedom.

“We believe if the captors are generous to not impose strict conditions, then the other victim will be released soon,” he said.

On May 15, militants from the southern Philippines launched a daring incursion into Sabah.

Four men armed with automatic rifles grabbed Thien and Then from the restaurant at around 7.40pm before fleeing back into Philippine waters on two boats.

In an immediate response, Sandakan MP Stephen Wong condemned the beheading and described it as an ‘act of war by the IS of Southeast Asia’.

"I'm deeply saddened to hear about this tragedy. I extend my deepest condolences to the friends and families of the victim," he said.

Wong noted that the Asean summit will commence in Kuala Lumpur tomorrow and urged for Sabah's security to be discussed as it is a regional issue.

"Our prime minister should immediately demand for the Philippines take stern action against the terrorists who are actively involved in kidnapping and terrorism activities in the southern Philippines.

"Abu Sayyaf is like the IS of Southeast Asia," he said.- mk

UMNO buat Tanah Rizab Melayu harta bapa depa...

Kerajaan negeri Terengganu dilaporkan telah meminda dan mewartakan undang-undang negeri yang membolehkan Umno Terengganu mengambil alih tanah rizab Melayu.

Menurut ahli parlimen Pakatan Harapan di Parlimen hari ini, pindaan kepada Seksyen 9 Enakmen Tanah Rizab Melayu Terengganu dibuat di DUN Terengganu pada Mei lalu.

"Sebagai seorang peguam, saya tidak pernah melihat undang-undang sebegini," kata Ahli Parlimen Sepang Hanipa Maidin pada sidang akhbar di lobi parlimen.

Beliau diiringi oleh ADUN Bandar Terengganu Azan Ismail yang mendakwa dirinya adalah wakil rakyat tunggal yang membantah pindaan tersebut.

"Saya cadangkan anda tanya kepada Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang, mengapa sebagai pemimpin pembangkang Terengganu, beliau tidak membantah (pindaan) ini," kata Hanipa.

Azan mengakui beliau khuatir pindaan baru itu akan menyusul ke negeri-negeri lain.

"Saya bimbang dengan undang-undang baru ini, ia akan pendulu bagi membolehkan negeri-negeri lain juga membenarkan pemilikan tanah rizab Melayu dipindahkan kepada parti politik," katanya.

Sesalinan hansard DUN Terengganu yang dilihat oleh Malaysiakini menunjukkan Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman mempertahankan pindaan itu untuk melindungi kepentingan Umno.

"Kami mahu lindungi tanah milik Umno supaya ia kekal di bawah orang Melayu, kerana ahli-ahli Umno adalah orang Melayu," kata Razif di DUN Terengganu pada 14 Mei lalu.

Selain Umno Terengganu, pindaan juga membolehkan pemilikan tanah rizab Melayu dipindahkan kepada Perbadanan PR1MA.

Is Najib waiting for country to go bankrupt...

Raub MP Mohd Ariff Sabri Abdul Aziz has conceded in his latest blog posting that Second Finance Minister Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah may perhaps be a likable person, being generally mild-mannered, but has unfortunately been reduced to an outcast by Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak in answering on behalf of the latter.

The MP does not go into Husni’s answer in Parliament for now. 

“Perhaps tomorrow, I will put up an article.”

For now, he stressed that he had to post a piece in Bahasa.

“What else does Najib want? What’s he waiting for? Is he waiting for the country to go bankrupt like 1MDB before he decides to quit. Is 1MDB 1Malaysia Dah Bankrap?”

“Given the surveys, Umno and Najib have no future, especially if the people continue to remain upset with him and his government.”

Before turning to the Bahasa piece proper, Ariff demolished the idea that had Budget 2016 been voted down, there would be no financial outlay for the country for next year. “This invective is the silliest idea.”

“If the Budget was voted out, this government falls. The incoming government would put up a Budget for 2016.”

If the Najib Government can prepare a Budget, he added, the new administration CAN prepare a new Budget. “Haven’t I said it before? If Najib can become Prime Minister, anyone can become Prime Minister.”

The MP was referring to Budget 2016 which had passage to the second reading on Monday night with the Opposition, excluding PAS, voting against it “because it contains so many inconsistencies, misinformation, and silly policies. It ought to be rejected.”

In his Bahasa piece, Ariff reiterates that Najib is all about himself and a small group when the government should be about the people. 

“Already, his support among the people generally has dropped to 23 per cent according to a recent survey which also found that he had only 31 per cent Malay support while support among the Chinese had hit rock bottom at 5 per cent.”

Najib, he charged, was no leader. “He lacks leadership qualities, has no vision and has an inability to think and focus on what’s right. If he was a true leader, he can succeed. Instead, whenever he opens his mouth, all sorts of strange utterings come out because he has a self-serving agenda.”

He conceded that the lack of Malay support could not be taken for granted as it can change at any time. 

“My friends from Pekan and Raub tell me that if Malays get a bag of rice, coffee, milk and RM50 cash, everything can be settled.”

The fact that 7.4 million people would collect cash payments under BR1M, he pointed out, shows that a large number of people in the country are poor. “The figure comes to 25 per cent of the people.”

Among others, in summing up, Ariff expressed the hope that the Malays would become more sophisticated in their thinking for the sake of their children and grandchildren and not allow the nation to be mortgaged through cheap corruption. “I am confident that the dignity of the Malays cannot be that low.” - fmt

Anwar cites 'black eye' in arguing political conspiracy...

Hearing into Anwar Ibrahim's Sodomy II conviction review application began in the Federal Court in Putrajaya today, nine months after he started serving his five-year jail term, with his lawyers continuing to cry the conviction as a political conspiracy.

Senior lawyer and former Federal Court judge Gopal Sri Ram submitted, in his argument to call former top cop Ramli Yusof to testify as a witness, that three key players in the Sodomy I case were also at play in Sodomy II.

Gopal named the three as former inspector-general of police Musa Hassan, former attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail and former senior assistant commissioner I Mohd Rodwan Ismail (who then was Najib’s aide de camp).

Musa was the investigating officer in Sodomy I, while Gani was part of the prosecution team and Rodwan was the person who brought in the mattress, allegedly containing Anwar's DNA, in the Sodomy I case in 1998.

Gopal said Ramli's evidence came to light on May 27 this year when the former Commercial Crime Investigations Department director testified in Rosli Dahlan's suit against the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission and others in what is known as the ‘Copgate’ affair.

Ramli (photo) testified last May that he did not want to conspire with Musa and Gani to fabricate evidence in the black eye incident of 1998, which arose after former IGP Abdul Rahim Noor hit Anwar.

"I refused to do it as they (Musa and Gani) told me to lodge a police report that Anwar inflicted the injuries on his own.

"I told Musa and Gani off as they were also on the 30th floor of Bukit Aman on the night Anwar was assaulted and that I would not lodge the police report," Ramli testified, adding that he also warned the investigator of the black-eye incident, Mat Zain Ibrahim, to be careful of Musa and the possibility of evidence being fabricated.

Gopal said this evidence was not there before for the defence to prove the long-standing fact of political conspiracy against the applicant (Anwar).

Anwar's Sodomy II appeal was heard between October and November last year. The decision was made by a five-member bench of the Federal Court, led by Chief Justice Arifin Zakaria, who read out the judgment upholding Anwar's conviction and jail sentence on Feb 10 this year.

Gopal (photo), a retired Federal Court judge, said Anwar is considered the biggest political threat to the present prime minister (Najib Abdul Razak).

"My client has been victimised as he is a well known politician and in this case, the complainant (Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan) had met with him (Najib)

"He also called Musa and met with Rodwan (at a hotel) before the alleged sodomy incident. Gani was also involved as he had apply to transfer the case from the Sessions Court to the High Court in Kuala Lumpur.

"Gani was also involved in appointing Shafee (Muhammad Shafee Abdullah) as the prosecutor," Gopal said.

This showed that the three who were involved in the Sodomy I case also played a role in the Sodomy II charge and in the claim of political conspiracy, the lawyer said.

If there is any rebuttal to Ramli's evidence, Gopal said, then Gani should have filed an affidavit for this purpose but he did not. In this application, the affidavit was only filed by DPP Mohd Hanafiah Zakaria.

This is just hearsay, says prosecution

DPP Hanafiah said what Ramli had said was merely hearsay, as what he related was based on what Musa had allegedly told him.

"What Ramli said is based on hearsay evidence, as what he alleges is that (the late AG) Mohtar Abdullah and Gani had asked him (to lodge a report claiming Anwar injured himself) and that he was only informed of this by Musa.

"This evidence is based on hearsay and there is no need to call Gani to make an affidavit," Hanafiah said.

To this, Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak Justice Richard Malanjum said it is Musa who should be the one making the affidavit, to which Hanafiah agreed.

However, Hanafiah told the apex court that he had dealt the case from the start and there was no involvement by Musa in the Sodomy II case.

The DPP further said no fresh evidence has been adduced with regard to Sodomy II and that similar evidence was adduced from Mat Zain during the earlier hearing before the Court of Appeal, but this was not taken up by the defence.

At the Court of Appeal, it was made through an affidavit by Mat Zain to disqualify Shafee," he said.

This information was available then, and the issue of it being given zero weight then, so why bring up the issue again, Hanafiah asked, adding that the argument that the 2008 incident involved political conspiracy was too remote.

"Musa was not involved in the 2008 investigations. I have personal knowledge as I was involved from the start of the prosecution," Hanafiah said.

Gopal then argued that the court had the inherent jurisdiction, under Rule 137, to call Ramli and to ensure justice in this case as this was not a trivial issue.

Chief Judge of Malaya Zulkefli Ahmad Makinudin said the five-member bench would deliver its decision on this issue at a yet to be determined date.

The five-member bench led by Justice Zulkefli and Malanjum, along with Federal Court judges Hasan Lah, Abu Samah Nordin and Zaharah Ibrahim, are likely to hear the review application as the other Federal Court judges were involved in hearing and ruling on Anwar's appeal against the Court of Appeal conviction of him for sodomising Saiful Bukhari.- mk

Presiden PAS Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang berkata parti itu menentang DAP memperkenalkan pilihan raya pihak berkuasa tempatan kerana tidak mahu kaum CIna menguasai kawasan bandar.

"Kita halang DAP daripada pemilihan perbandaran, (kerana) orang Cina akan kuasai bandar.

"Kita takkan benar (kawasan) bandar dikuasai oleh DAP, (yang) menghalalkan arak dan judi kepada orang Islam. Itu jawapannya, senang," katanya.

Beliau mengulas kenyataan Setiausaha Agung DAP Lim Guan Eng bahawa DAP perlu kekal di kerajaan Selangor bagi memastikan PAS "tidak buat jahat" dan menghalang parti Islam itu melaksanakan "dasar yang tidak baik" kepada rakyat Selangor.

Malah sebelum hubungan PAS dan DAP terputus, mereka sudah berbeza pandangan cadangan DAP mengenai pilihan raya kerajaan tempatan.

Hadi kemudiannya memberi amaran bahawa pilihan raya kerajaan tempatan boleh membawa kepada rusuhan kaum, seperti rusuhan 13 Mei 1969.

Sementara itu, Hadi turut ditanya sama ada PAS masih berharap untuk menasihati kerajaan BN.

"Kita dalam Parlimen menasihati kerajaan. (Secara) rasmi atau tidak rasmi, berucap dalam Parlimen, (nasihat secara) rasmilah tu," katanya.

Hadi berkata pembangkang tidak harus terkongkong dan membantah semua apa yang kerajaan katakan.

Hadi: PAS foiling DAP from turning cities into gambling, alcohol dens....

PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang said his party is opposing DAP introducing local council elections because it does not want the Chinese to conquer cities.

“We will prevent DAP from holding local council elections, (because) the Chinese will conquer cities.

“We will not allow cities to be controlled by DAP, allowing alcohol and gambling to Muslims,” he said.

Hadi was responding to DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng who said that DAP needs to remain in the Selangor state government to ensure that PAS would not be up to mischief.

Lim had rationalised that DAP’s existence in the Selangor state government was needed so that PAS does not implement bad policies, just like how it has done so in Kelantan.

Racial riots

Even before PAS and DAP cut their ties, they were already butting heads on the matter of DAP’s proposed local council elections.

Hadi then had warned that having local council elections could lead to racial riots, like May 13 riots of 1969.

Meanwhile, Hadi was also asked whether PAS still harboured hopes to advise the BN-led government.

“We do so in Parliament. Be it officially or not, speaking in Parliament is considered as advising them," he said.

Hadi said the opposition should not be too rigid and oppose anything that the government says.

Dr.M - Wang "derma" RM2.6b dari 1MDB bukan Pak Arab...

Walaupun dipanggil polis dan disiasat atas dakwaan meminta Datuk Seri Najib Razak berundur, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad tanpa serik hari ini berkata, beliau akan terus mendesak peletakan jawatan perdana menteri.

Dalam posting terbaru di blognya, Dr Mahathir berkata beliau tidak akan dinafikan haknya untuk meneruskan kritikan terhadap Najib, yang ketika ini diselubungi pelbagai dakwaan rasuah dan penyelewengan wang rakyat.

"Oleh itu, saya akan terus meminta Najib meletak jawatan, tidak mempercayai penjelasan beliau tentang bagaimana beliau mendapat RM2.6 bilion itu, mengkritik pinjaman yang diambil 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) dan kerugian yang ditanggungnya.

"Ini hak saya sebagai seorang warganegara. Sesuatu yang sangat tidak demokratik untuk menyangkal saya hak ini,” katanya.

Dr Mahathir, 90, merupakan pengkritik tegar Najib untuk tempoh masa yang paling lama setakat ini, dan secara terbuka meminta perdana menteri meletak jawatan kerana didakwa "gagal" mentadbir negara.

Juga menjadi bahan kritikan Dr Mahathir ialah wang "derma" RM2.6 bilion yang dimasukkan dalam akaun bank peribadi Najib serta skandal milik negara yang sarat hutang 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).

Beliau berkata, semasa menjadi perdana menteri, beliau juga menerima tuduhan terlibat dalam kronisme dan rasuah tetapi tidak mengambil tindakan terhadap pengkritiknya kerana menganggap kritikan sebegitu perkara biasa.

"Saya tidak mengambil tindakan untuk membuatkan sebarang tuduhan terhadap saya satu jenayah. Saya percaya tuduhan begitu satu perkara biasa.

"Jika rakyat benar-benar percaya perkara yang dikatakan tentang saya, mereka boleh singkirkan saya. Jika saya kalah, saya terima. Itulah cara yang demokratik,” katanya.

Pihak berkuasa membuka beberapa kertas siasatan selepas laporan polis dibuat terhadap bekas perdana menteri itu, manakala Ketua Polis Negara Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar juga dilaporkan sebagai berkata polis akan menyoal beliau berhubung komen yang dibuatnya semasa menghadiri perhimpunan Bersih 4.

Siasatan yang dijalankan adalah berkaitan Seksyen 500 Kanun Keseksaan kerana memfitnah.

Perdana menteri paling lama berkhidmat selama 22 tahun itu berkata, sehingga beliau didapati bersalah oleh mahkamah, beliau akan terus mengkritik Najib kerana percaya beliau tidak melakukan sebarang kesalahan.

"Pada pandangan saya, dan sudah tentu saya mungkin salah, bentuk soalan yang dikemukakan (oleh polis) adalah bertujuan menghalang saya daripada terus berbuat atau bercakap semua yang saya lakukan dan katakan sebelum ini.

"Jika saya berhenti, maka Najib akan bebas daripada pendedahan mengenai salah lakukan yang dilakukan sebelum ini atau akan lakukan. Orang mungkin akan lupa.

"Mahkamah mungkin memutuskan saya melakukan jenayah atas apa yang saya lakukan atau katakan. Tetapi sehingga saya disabitkan bersalah oleh mahkamah, saya akan terus percaya dan katakan, saya tidak berbuat apa-apa salah, apa-apa yang tidak demokratik,” katanya.

Beliau mengulangi yang beliau tidak percaya dengan penjelasan Najib mengatakan RM2.6 bilion itu sumbangan seorang penderma Timur Tengah kerana perdana menteri masih belum membuktikan wang itu bukan dari 1MDB.

"Saya secara terbuka mengisytiharkan saya tidak percaya RM2.6 bilion Najib itu sumbangan dari seorang Arab. Saya percaya ia dari 1MDB.

"Najib tidak membuktikan ia bukan wang 1MDB. Apabila anda mengambil sesuatu yang bukan milik anda, ia mencuri.

"Dengan mengatakan Najib mencuri wang kerajaan, ia hanya boleh menjadi fitnah jika beliau boleh buktikan beliau tidak mencuri.

"Setakat ini, beliau tidak mampu memberikan bukti meyakinkan yang RM2.6 bilion dalam akaun peribadinya itu bukan datang dari 1MDB dan oleh itu, bukan dari kerajaan.

"Fitnah hanya menjadi fitnah jika anda mengatakan sesuatu yang palsu mengenai seseorang. Buktikan apa yang saya katakan adalah palsu, kemudian barulah dakwa saya kerana memfitnah. Itu caranya," katanya.

Sebaliknya, kata Dr Mahathir, Najib campur tangan dalam siasatan terhadap skandal kewangan itu dan menggantikan pegawai yang sebelum ini terlibat dalam siasatan.

Langkah itu, katanya, tidak membantu membina kredibiliti Najib.

"Beliau menghentikan siasatan ke atas RM2.6 bilion dalam akaunnya. Itu menunjukkan beliau takut siasatan itu mungkin membuktikan dakwaan terhadapnya berasas," katanya.

"Melantik orang lain menggantikan pegawai yang asal ialah satu campur tangan dalam kerja-kerja penyiasat. Penggantian itu tidak mewujudkan kredibiliti." – tmi

There's a hint I may be charged, says Mahathir...

Former prime minister Mahathir Mohamad, 90, said he received a hint that police may charge him after the authorities quizzed him last week.

Police had questioned Mahathir on Nov 6 over his remarks made against Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak at the Bersih 4.0 rally on Aug 30.

Speaking about the police interview for the first time today, Mahathir said he believed the police were trying to turn what he said into a crime.

"Thinking it over afterwards, I concluded that they were trying to make what I did or said in public before (into) some kind of wrongdoings, to even be some kind of criminal act.

"Although they did not say I would be charged, there was just a hint that I might be charged," he said in a blog posting today.

Mahathir had called for Najib's ouster and rubbished explanations that the RM2.6 billion in the prime minister's personal bank accounts was a 'political donation'.

The former prime minister said the questioning he experienced differed from his last encounter with the police and Attorney-General's Chambers.

"(At that time), they wanted to make me a government witness. I listened to them and concluded that there was no case for the accused person to answer so I refused to be a prosecution witness.

"This time it is not about making me a witness. They wanted answers to questions. My lawyers advised me not to answer most of those questions. So I did not," he said.

Mahathir said he had re-examined the questions posed by police to him and could not see how what he did and said were against the law.

"I did not advocate violence. In a democracy the overthrow of a prime minister or a government is a common thing.

"Recently the prime minister of Australia was overthrown by his own party. The prime minister of Romania resigned because a night-club caught fire and some people died," he said.

Mahathir also claimed that Najib ‘overthrew’ his predecessor Abdullah Ahmad Badawi even though Mahathir had been Abdullah's fiercest critic.- mk

Menteri pukoi golf di AS,beli-belah guna wang anak yatim...

Selepas beberapa kontroversi dalam pentadbiran sebuah yayasan di bawah Jabatan Perdana Menteri, Pusat Pemantauan dan Pendedahan Maklumat Kebangsaan (NOW) hari ini mendedahkan, pihak berkenaan turut menggunakan wang daripada tabung anak yatim bagi membiayai perbelanjaan seorang menteri dan isterinya di Amerika Syarikat (AS).

Pengarah NOW, Akmal Nasir mendakwa satu rombongan diadakan 21 Mei hingga 29 Mei 2014, turut melewati bandar Washington DC, Minnesota dan Iowa.

Beliau memberitahu satu sidang media di Kuala Lumpur hari ini, pembayaran lawatan bagi perbelanjaan menteri dan rombongannya itu dibuat melalui sebuah institusi di bawah kawalan Yayasan Pembangunan Ekonomi Islam (Yapeim).

"Lebih mendukacitakan, pembayaran itu dibuat melalui institusi kawalan Yapeim iaitu Yayasan Pembangunan Anak Yatim/Miskin (Pemangkin) yang mana duit itu adalah khusus untuk kegunaan bantuan anak yatim dan miskin," katanya.

Akmal mendedahkan jumlah keseluruhan perbelanjaan diambil daripada tabung anak yatim dan miskin bagi menampung perbelanjaan menteri bersama isteri serta rombongan itu dianggarkan RM410,978.56.

"Walaupun perjalanan tersebut untuk tujuan 'Pemantapan dan Pemerkasaan' Kelab Santun Yapeim, namun ia bersifat suka ria dan langsung tiada amal jariah," katanya.

Akmal pada sidang media itu mendedahkan antara aktiviti rombongan tersebut termasuk majlis keraian menteri (golf), jamuan promosi (keraian VVIP) dan lawatan 4 hari pada 22, 23, 26 dan 27 Mei 2014 ke Leesburg Outlet + OT.

Pihaknya, katanya, memeriksa destinasi tersebut dan mendapati ia sebuah pusat membeli-belah 'upscale outlet' barangan berjenama yang terletak di Washington DC.

"Ia dikunjungi rombongan menteri tersebut sebanyak 4 kali di mana perbelanjaan pengangkutan sahaja mencecah RM5,908.35.

"Saya pasti pendedahan ini menjangkau imaginasi rakyat Malaysia.

"Bagaimana satu badan disalahgunakan untuk aktiviti menteri seperti golf, ke pusat membeli belah dan sebagainya?" soalnya.

NOW turut melampirkan bukti invois yang menunjukkan yayasan tersebut membayar sejumlah wang mencecah RM400,000 untuk kos keseluruhan rombongan tersebut.

"Itu duit anak yatim. Ramai yang keluar negara atas urusan rasmi, tetapi bila gunakan duit untuk program santai, ia di luar matlamat, dan itu salah.

"Tindakan menteri itu melampau dan mengkhianati agama, bangsa dan negara," katanya.

Justeru, badan bebas itu mendesak agar satu siasatan menyeluruh dijalankan, di mana setiap perbelanjaan yayasan tersebut disemak dan diedit secara terbuka.

"Siasatan ini juga perlu mengesan jumlah wang yang hilang akibat ketirisan, kebocoran dan salah guna kedudukan," kata Akmal.

Ini merupakan pendedahan kali keempat dakwaan salahguna wang rakyat timbul yang melibatkan yayasan di bawah seliaan Jabatan Perdana Menteri itu.

Sebelum ini, NOW mendedahkan ia terlibat menggunakan dana yayasan itu bagi aktiviti berkaitan pilihan raya kecil (PRK) Rompin tahun ini. – tmi

'Minister went golfing, shopping with orphans' money'...

An Umno minister's trip to the United States costing RM410,978 was allegedly paid for by Yayasan Pembangunan Ekonomi Islam Malaysia (Yapeim) through a subsidiary fund meant for orphans and poor children, the National Oversight and Whistleblowers (NOW) centre claims.

Citing invoices billed to Yayasan Pembangunan Anak Yatim/Miskin (Pemangkin) that it obtained, NOW’s director Akmal Nasir said the trip to Washington DC, Iowa and Minnesota from May 21 to 29, 2014, involved golf, and trips to shopping malls.

Akmal said the minister's wife was also part of the entourage.

The invoices he obtained showed that RM274,493 was spent on the return tickets for the minister and his wife.

Other expenses spent on the minister include RM1,658.96 for golf, RM1,565.98 for a dinner function and RM3,200.72 for souvenirs.

Accommodation for the minister and his wife for three nights came to RM2,675.43 in total.

"If the minister has any pride left, he should resign immediately. It doesn't matter who is responsible… the money used was money meant for orphans.

"Even if there were such programmes, when you use it for leisure, it's wrong," Akmal said.

This is NOW's fourth expose on YaPEIM.

Yesterday, it was reported that the foundation's chairperson and deputy chairperson were appointed by Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Jamil Khir Baharom to YaPEIM's board of trustees.

The duo, along with the deputy chairperson's husband and son, are reported to be earning almost RM2 million annually from the various positions they hold in Yapeim and its subsidiaries.

On Monday, Akmal claimed that the Yapeim deputy chairperson, who is a Kelantan Wanita Umno member, had allegedly received RM223,000 from the foundation for community activities that coincided with the Rompin by-election.

However, there is reportedly no record of any activities taking place during the by-election.

It was previously reported that a Kelantan Umno member and the foundation were being investigated by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission for misappropriating flood relief funds.

The Rompin by-election on May 5 ended in BN's favour, with the MP, Hasan Arifin, now serving as the new Public Accounts Committee chairperson.- mk

Isteri Husam Musa terima ugutan bunuh...

Ketika ketegangan Datuk Husam Musa dan PAS, anggota keluarga bekas naib presiden PAS itu didakwa menerima ugutan bunuh.

Bekas rakan seperjuangannya dalam PAS sebelum ini, Salahuddin Ayub berkata beliau dimaklumkan oleh Husam bahawa kejadian berlaku dua hari lalu.

Salahuddin, yang kini berada di Kelantan, berkata ugutan itu dibuat melalui SMS dan laporan polis sudah dibuat pada hari yang sama.

Beliau bagaimanapun enggan membuat sebarang spekulasi berhubung sebab ugutan itu dibuat selain enggan menuduh mana-mana pihak.

“Dalam keadaan tegang sebegini (antara PAS dan AMANAH) saya tidak boleh membuat sebarang kenyataan,” kata bekas naib presiden PAS itu yang kini pemimpin nombor dua Parti Amanah Negara (AMANAH).

Malaysiakini sedang mendapatkan reaksi Husam berhubung perkara itu.

Sementara itu keganasan nampaknya tidak terhad kepada keluarga Husam saja kerana Salahuddin sendiri mengalami 'cabaran' yang dipercayai ada kaitan dengan gerakan AMANAH di Kelantan. - mk

Menurut bekas Naib Presiden PAS itu, beliau bersama rakan pada awalnya tidak menyedari sabotaj tersebut sehinggalah kenderaan yang mereka naikinya hilang kawalan dan hampir merempuh sebuah motosikal.

Bagaimanapun, Salahuddin berkata, beliau tidak membuat laporan polis berhubung kejadian itu dan menyifatkan ia cuma “kerja budak-budak nakal”.

Husam Musa's wife receives death threat...

Former PAS vice-president Husam Musa’s wife has received a death threat amidst an escalating quarrel between him and his party’s leadership.

Amanah deputy president Salahuddin Ayub, who is also a former PAS vice- president, said Husam had confided in him about the matter.

Salahuddin, who is in Kelantan, said the incident occured on Monday.

He said the threat was made through a text message and a police report was lodged the same day.

However, Salahuddin declined to speculate from which quarter the threat may have come from.

"In such a tense situation, I cannot make any statements," he said.

Malaysiakini is attempting to contact Husam for further clarification.

Salahuddin also revealed that one of the tires of his four-wheel drive vehicle had been pierced (photo) with a knife

He said he was initially unaware of the puncture and nearly hit a motorcyclist when his vehicle lost control.

He has since lodged a police report and described the incident as the work of ‘kids’. - mk

The Trial of our Finance Minister...

Picture  this. The finance Minister comes before parliament and makes a pious presentation on the 2016 budget proposal. He actually pontificates. He does this with a poker face. He appeals to the Maker of the seven heavens and seven earths. He refers to holy verses. He makes reference to wasathiyah and maqasid shariyah.

He does this while carrying inside him, the burden of huge falsehoods.Now, that's beguiling.

He knew what Jho Low was up to. He went along and abetted the chinaman. 1MDB was a huge scam to milk as much money as possible. It’s an UMNO culture and its president is the chief proponent.

Nobody else knew what was going on with 1MDB. No one in the cabinet were told. 1MDB then imploded as its financial mischiefs surfaced.

Police reports were made by the crusading Khairudin Abu Hassan. He is in jail at the moment. I am told he meets up regularly with Anwar Ibrahim. It is an irony. The man who started the downfall of Anwar is now sharing the same premises as him.

Now, I am also told by my sources though I cannot affirm the veracity, that 2 senior members of Najib’s cabinet told Khairudin explicitly never to withdraw his police reports. Both these senior ministers claimed that no one in the cabinet were briefed on 1MDB. Let all hell break loose they say and let Najib fry.

Perhaps the sources were only interested in besmirching the names of Adnan Mansor and Zahid Hamidi.  I am sure they are honourable men.

Perhaps Najib wanted to spare the cabinet from listening the briefing done in English and so thought it wasn’t necessary to brief the cabinet.

When assessing Najib as PM and Finance Minister, I am reminded of the polemical books by Christopher Hitchens; The Trial of Henry Kissinger and No One left to lie to. I recommend people to read these books and many others by the same author. Hitchens died in December 2011.

Because, the titles of the 2 books are a nice fit in the machinations of Najib. We are reading a trial of Najib. How it was he who created this monstrous scam called 1MDB. And he is lying to everyone in Malaysia, there’s no more left. From Kings to commoner, from patricians to plebeians.

I have to break a promise I made to myself. I promised to give myself an extended break. I should have said sine die. But the budget is too enticing. Plus I was there when Najib delivered his budget speech.

Is there actual money in the first place in the Budget? I hear rumours attributed to government ministers telling followers that there is no money. Perhaps, the only ministry to have money and takes precedence over all others is the PMs department. He takes up RM20 billion.

MARA? Education Ministry? No money yet.

This man has destroyed almost all the institutions that support the integrity of this country. The office of the Attorney General, the MACC and Auditor General are all compromised. They have been forced to be pliant. The last remaining bulwark is Bank Negara.

Is Bank Negara managing our financial system well enough? Take for example the various pronouncements made by Bank Negara. Do we actually have USD reserves with which to do mop up operations? I.e. selling the greenback to buy as much Malaysian Ringgit as possible to drive up the value of the Ringgit. All I hear is that we have so much and so much RM equivalent in USD. Why didn’t the governor say, how much USD reserves we actually have.

Why do we find so much amount of Malaysian Ringgit in the market? Who has been flooding the market with Ringgit? It is as though some people in Malaysia are printing the Ringgit, spending them and flooding the market with the ringgit. These people may buy anything with USD. They may even be amassing USD and now that Bank Negara can accept USD, they may want to keep USD accounts with Bank Negara. Whether they can do that directly with Bank Negara, I would not know. 

When I listened to Najib delivering his budget speech- it was full of tumbril remarks, you can’t help to feel utterly disenchanted and can’t wait to kick him out Putrajaya.

Tumbril remarks are those smart ass remarks proffered by the nobility that are likely to incite thoughts of revolution. These are remarks made by the upper crust designed to inflame instantaneous abhorrence and revulsion. Those who hear them cannot wait to kick out the author of those remarks.

Examples. If people don’t like to pay toll rates, use free roads. If people can’t afford to eat meat, eat soybean curd. If people don’t like it here, they can emigrate.

Don’t you feel revolted when Najib advises people to spend judiciously when he and the missus splurged around the world? Don’t you feel the erupting anger when Najib offers pious counsels on how to manage our personal finances, when he hasn’t come clean about the financial wrongdoings under his watch? Don’t you feel utterly impatient to see him get booted out for behaving as though we owe him a living and we can thank our lucky stars that Najib is around?

Nobody dies if he is not around. UMNO will survive him. The people of Pekan will not drop dead.

Najib’s oeuvre is his annual showmanship presenting the budget with all the fanfare of a circus atmosphere.  The budget speech 2016 (not to be confused with the bloody thick anggaran perbelanjaan persekutuan 2016, is full of tumbril remarks.

Some examples. This budget is made in the name of He who has created the 7 heavens and the 7 earths, made in the name of such and such holy verse, made in cognizance of the principle of wasathiyah, always in compliance with maqasid shariyah and so forth.

What is Najib doing? Najib is pontificating. The budget is suspicious- because it was presented in such a magniloquent manner.

The budget is a circus.

First I don’t fully understand the over-excitement about budget 2016 or any budget for that matter. It’s an extended document, presented by the finance minister about how much we collected-.that’s called revenue and how that revenue is to be applied. 

To do that, the finance minister comes before parliament and asks parliament to approve setting aside a specific sum from the consolidated fund. For 2016, the finance minister asks for RM267 billion.

The key sentence- comes before parliament to seek approval for setting aside some money from the consolidated fund. The money set aside will be used for opex- operating or recurring expenditure and capex- capital expenditure. Operating costs and development costs for managing the country. 

Najib is a glorified general manager of the country responsible to the board of directors, the MPs who in turn represent the real shareholders of the country- the citizens of this country. 

The technicians can go nibble at the details. They have an important job to do. But let us look at the bigger picture. Let’s look at least 5 budgets before. 5 years is a reasonable time period to expect some changes to have taken place. But not 1 year. What can a year achieve?

Yet Najib speaks of epochal transformation enabled by one year’s budget. Is he a fantasist or what?  One year cannot achieve anything. Not rural transformation. Not agricultural transformation.
