MH370 gunakan autopilot dan penumpang meninggal sebelum pesawat berakhir di lautan...

Penumpang dan anak kapal MH370 yang masih dicari kemungkinan meninggal dunia sebelum pesawat yang terbang menggunakan autopilot berakhir di lautan, kata laporan terbaru daripada pihak berkuasa Australia.

Mengikut laporan 55 muka Lembaga Biro Keselamatan Australia (ATSB), penyiasat memperoleh keputusan berkenaan selepas melakukan perbandingan keadaan dalam pesawat dengan beberapa nahas sebelumnya, walaupun tiada bukti baru. 

Laporan itu menjuruskan tumpuan terhadap kemungkinan lokasi berakhirnya penerbangan pesawat berkenaan yang berdasarkan beberapa kemungkinan, termasuk mengambil kira tiada komunikasi.

Laluan penerbangan yang dilihat kekal dan beberapa faktor luar biasa turut diambil kira dalam merumuskan penemuan berkenaan.

“Tiada tindak balas daripada anak kapal atau hhypoxia event' diandaikan bukti terbaik sehingga membawa kepada rumusan berkenaan,” mengikut kata laporan ATSB.

Semua penemuan itu kemudiannya menjurus kepada rumusan kemungkinan besar penerbangan pesawat berkenaan berakhir lebih jauh ke selatan Lautan Hindi berbanding andaian sebelum ini.

Pihak berkuasa Australia turut memberitahu, semua faktor itu membuatkan pencarian pesawat berkenaan dipindahkan ke kawasan jauh ke selatan berbanding sebelum ini.

Keputusan itu muncul selepas lebih 100 hari pesawat Malaysia Airlines (MAS) B777, yang membawa 239 penumpang dan anak kapal hilang dalam penerbangan dari Kuala Lumpur ke Beijing, pada 8 Mac lalu. - Reuters

MH370 passengers likely suffocated, says Australia...

The passengers and crew of the missing Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 most likely died from suffocation and coasted lifelessly into the ocean on autopilot, a new report released by Australian officials yesterday said.

In a 55-page report, the Australian Transport Safety Board (ATSB) outlined how investigators had arrived at this conclusion after comparing the conditions on the flight with previous disasters, although it contained no new evidence from within the jetliner.

The report narrowed down the possible final resting place from thousands of possible routes, while noting the absence of communications and the steady flight path and a number of other
key abnormalities in the course of the ill-fated flight.

“Given these observations, the final stages of the unresponsive crew/hypoxia event type appeared to best fit the available evidence for the final period of MH370's flight when it was heading in a generally southerly direction,” the ATSB report said.

All of that suggested that the plane most likely crashed farther south into the Indian Ocean than previously thought, Australian officials also said, leading them to announce a shift farther south within the prior search area.

The new analysis comes more than 100 days after the Boeing 777, carrying 239 passengers and crew, disappeared on March 8 shortly after taking off from Kuala Lumpur bound for Beijing.

Investigators say what little evidence they have to work with suggests the plane was deliberately diverted thousands of kilometres from its scheduled route before eventually plunging into the Indian Ocean.

The search was narrowed in April after a series of acoustic pings thought to be from the plane’s black box recorders were heard along a final arc where analysis of satellite data put its last location.

But a month later, officials conceded the wreckage was not in that concentrated area, some 1,600km off the north-west coast of Australia, and the search area would have to be expanded.

“The new priority area is still focused on the seventh arc, where the aircraft last communicated with satellite. We are now shifting our attention to an area further south along the arc,” Australian Deputy Prime Minister Warren Truss told reporters in Canberra.

Truss said the area was determined after a review of satellite data, early radar information and aircraft performance limits after the plane diverted across the Malaysian peninsula and headed south into one of the remotest areas of the planet.

“It is highly, highly likely that the aircraft was on autopilot otherwise it could not have followed the orderly path that has been identified through the satellite sightings,” Truss said.

Next phase set to start in August

The next phase of the search is expected to start in August and take a year, covering some 60,000 sq km at a cost of A$60 million ($56 million) or more. The search is already the most expensive in aviation history.

The new priority search area is around 2,000km west of Perth, a stretch of isolated ocean frequently lashed by storm force winds and massive swells.

Two vessels, one Chinese and one from Dutch engineering company Fugro, are currently mapping the sea floor along the arc, where depths exceed 5,000 metres in parts.

Penswastaan UiTM satu contoh bila nama Melayu dan Bumiputera disalahgunakan bagi kayakan kroni2 UMNO...

Siasatan yang dilakukan terhadap projek konsesi pembinaan kampus UiTM mendapati, wujud syarikat Bumiputera yang bukan sahaja mempunyai 'kepakaran' dalam rundingan konsesi dengan kerajaan malah menyerahkan pula projek yang diperolehi kepada syarikat bukan Bumiputera.

Ahli Parlimen Pandan, Rafizi Ramli berkata, kaedah rundingan terus yang digunakan pentadbiran Najib dengan berselindung di sebalik “private finance initiatives” (PFI) begitu mudah disalahgunakan dan terdedah kepada amalan rasuah.

"Melalui kaedah rundingan terus ini, ahli perniagaan yang mempunyai akses dengan pimpinan Umno dan pegawai tinggi kerajaan berpeluang mendapat konsesi-konsesi yang diikat dalam tempoh yang lama dan boleh merugikan rakyat," ujarnya.

Beliau memberi contoh syarikat yang diberi konsesi membina kampus UiTM Kota Samarahan iaitu Rekajaya Projek Sdn Bhd yang turut dianugerahkan konsesi Lebuhraya Kuala Lumpur-Kuala Selangor (Latar) melalui satu konsortium.

Syarikat-syarikat yang dikuasai ahli perniagaan ini, tambahnya boleh diibaratkan sebagai "pakar perunding konsesi" yang berurusan dengan Kerajaan Persekutuan.

Bagaimanapun ujar beliau, sebaik berjaya mendapatkan konsesi-konsesi pembinaan, projek pembinaan diberikan pula kepada syarikat bukan Bumiputera sama ada melalui perkongsian (joint venture) atau sub-kontrak.

"Di dalam kes pembinaan Lebuhraya LATAR dan UiTM cawangan Kota Samarahan, pembinaannya dikendalikan oleh Binapuri Holdings Berhad, sebuah syarikat pembinaan bukan Bumiputera yang disenaraikan di Bursa Kuala Lumpur," dedah beliau.

Rafizi menambah, semakan mendapati kos pembinaan dua projek konsesi itu dibiayai melalui pinjaman dengan Bank Pembangunan Berhad, sebuah bank milik penuh kerajaan.

"Saya mengambil contoh konsesi penswastaan UiTM cawangan Kota Samarahan ini untuk menunjukkan bagaimana kaedah PFI yang dijadikan alasan untuk memberi anugerah konsesi kepada ahli-ahli politik Umno dan rakan perniagaan mereka sebenarnya samalah dengan Kerajaan Persekutuan menanggung sendiri kos pembiayaan tanpa perlu diikat dengan perjanjian konsesi 23 tahun yang membebankan rakyat," ujarnya.

Beliau berkata, alasan kononnya kontraktor Bumiputera berpeluang dianugerahkan projek melalui program konsesi juga diragui kerana jelas projek yang diperolehi diserahkan pula kepada syarikat bukan Bumiputera.

Rafizi turut mempertikaikan pembiayaan projek melalui Bank Pembangunan, sebuah bank milik penuh Kerajaan Persekutuan.

Menurutnya, jika kampus-kampus tersebut dibina sendiri kerajaan dengan meminjam dari Bank Pembangunan, pasti kos yang ditanggung adalah jauh lebih murah.

"Siri penswastaan UiTM menjadi bukti bagaimana nama Melayu dan Bumiputera disalahgunakan untuk mengkayakan kroni Umno. 

"Saya akan terus bersuara mendesak kebertanggungjawaban dan ketelusan di dalam kaedah PFI supaya Umno tidak sewenang-wenangnya menganugerahkan konsesi yang akan membebankan rakyat kelak," ujar beliau. - Harakahdaily

If a government project is awarded to someone qualified, and he happens to be Umno member, is that a sin?

This was the question raised by Malay rights NGO Perkasa president Ibrahim Ali in response to PKR's Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli's exposes on Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) campus concessions.

The answer, Ibrahim said, is no.

"In principle, every Malaysian regardless of party has the right to do business. Even members of parliament and state assembly.

"If a contract is given to a certain individual and it so happens that the bumiputera is an Umno member, it is a sin. That is what Rafizi is bombarding (about) now," he said at a press conference.

He said that in Perkasa's mind, it does not even matter if the recipient is the prime minister's son as long as "it is transparent, competitive and fulfills all criteria".

"If everything was fulfilled so what's wrong (with) that? I am also against cronyism and nepotism... but I don't want to be carried away," he added.

He also said that it is not fair to insinuate that there are elements of corruption simply because an Umno member gets the deal.

"So Umno people cannot be in business?" he asked.- mk

'Shocked' lawyer questions AG's agenda...

The lawyer of M Indira Gandhi has questioned the "agenda" behind Attorney-General Abdul Gani Patail's decision to intervene in the two interfaith custody cases in Ipoh and Seremban.

M Kulasegaran told Malaysiakini today that he was "shocked" with the AG's decision to intervene by applying to cancel the custody orders issued by both the civil and syariah courts, and to expedite the matter at the Federal Court.

"Is this because the prime minister holds the view (that the Federal Court should solve interfaith custody battles)?" he asked.

Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak previously said the Federal Court should solve interfaith custody battles when there are contradictory orders between both the High Court and the Syariah Court.

The AG will seek to cancel the custody and recovery orders in both the cases of Indira and S Deepa.

In Indira's case, an arrest order had also been issued on her ex-husband Ridzuan Abdullah for refusing to return the couple's youngest daughter despite previous court orders.

"The custody order for this case was issued four years ago. This issue has already been ventilated by the High Court. Why is the AG acting now?" Kulasegaran asked.

He said that when Indira attempted to quash the conversion of her two children, made unilaterally by her ex-husband in 2010, the AG Chambers had "fought tooth and nail" to prevent the matter from being brought to the Federal Court.

"I will take advice from my client and we await the AG's application excitedly," he added.

Meanwhile, the lawyer of Deepa, Joanne Leong, said the intervention "was not necessary" as there have been many such cases that have been handled by the High Court before.

"These are not the only cases regarding this matter. There have been many cases before us and they have been decided by the civil courts," she said.

"The rights of the non-Muslims are protected by the civil court," she said.

Both Deepa and Indira have one of their children still remaining with their ex-husbands despite the court orders, as the police had refused to act on both cases due to the Syariah Court orders granting custody to the converted ex-husbands.- mk

Jawatan Menteri - Noh Omar habuk pun tak ada dan AG mohon gantung perintah mahkamah...

Khalid Samad mengucapkan ‘takziah’ kepada Ahli Parlimen Tanjong Karang, Datuk Seri Noh Omar yang gagal menempatkan diri dalam rombakan kabinet semalam.

Ahli Parlimen Shah Alam itu berkata beliau bersimpati dengan Noh yang begitu lantang membela Umno-BN dalam Dewan Rakyat tetapi tidak dilantik menjadi menteri semula.

Katanya, usaha Noh itu kelihatan sia-sia apabila tidak dihargai oleh Perdana Menteri, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

“Walaupun dia begitu lantang dalam Parlimen tetapi nampak gaya matlamat diimpikan untuk menzahirkan kehebatan dalam Parlimen tidak tercapai.

“Dia dengan jelas tidak dilantik menjadi menteri dalam rombakan baru-baru ini,” katanya dalam sidang media yang diadakan di pejabatnya di sini.

Beliau berkata demikian bagi mengulas isu pembesaran kabinet yang diumumkan Perdana Menteri semalam.

Pada masa sama, Khalid turut menasihati Najib untuk menonjolkan hero lain jika benar-benar serius mahu mengambil alih Selangor daripada Pakatan Rakyat (PR) pada pilihan raya umum akan datang.

Isu anak: AG akan mohon gantung perintah mahkamah(AG seeks to suspend interfaith custody orders)...

Peguam Negara akan memohon untuk menggantung pelaksanaan perintah mahkamah sivil dan mahkamah syariah dalam dua kes perebutan hak penjagaan anak yang menimbulkan konflik bidang kuasa kedua-dua mahkamah itu.

Peguam Negara Tan Sri Gani Patail juga akan memohon untuk mencelah dalam kedua-dua kes itu kelak "demi kepentingan awam" apabila ia dibicarakan.

"Jabatan ini akan memohon untuk mencelah dalam prosiding kedua-dua kes itu di peringkat Mahkamah Rayuan dan Mahkamah Tinggi Syariah Seremban.

"Seterusnya ia juga akan memohon penggantungan pelaksanaan perintah-perintah yang dikeluarkan oleh kedua-dua Mahkamah Tinggi Sivil dan Mahkamah Tinggi Syariah terhadap pihak," katanya dalam kenyataan petang ini.

Kes yang dirujuk Gani melibatkan S Deepa dan bekas suaminya Izwan Abdullah atau nama asalnya N Viran di Seremban.

Mahkamah Tinggi Syariah Seremban pada 19 September 2013 memberi hak penjagaan dua anak mereka iaitu Nur Nabila binti Izwan @ Sharmila a/p Viran, 8 tahun dan Muhammad Nabil bin Izwan @ Mithran a/l Viran, 5 tahun kepada Izwan yang memeluk Islam.

Seterusnya, Mahkamah Tinggi Syariah pada 7 Oktober 2013 memerintahkan polis untuk membantu Izwan mendapatkan anak-anaknya.

Namun, Mahkamah Tinggi Seremban pada 7 April 2014 memberikan hak jagaan kepada S Deepa dan seterusnya pada 21 Mei 2014 mengarahkan polis mendapatkan kembali anak-anak tersebut daripada Izwan.

Satu lagi kes melibatkan Indira Gandhi dan Mohamad Riduan Abdullah @ K.Pathmanathan yang merebut tiga anak daripada hasil perkahwinan mereka sewaktu Riduan masih seorang Hindu.

Mahkamah Tinggi Syariah Ipoh pada 29 September memutuskan Riduan mendapat hak penjagaan ke atas anak-anaknya.

Bagaimanapun, Mahkamah Tinggi Ipoh pada 11 Mac 2010 memerintahkan bahawa hak jagaan diserahkan kepada ibu mereka dengan akses munasabah sekali seminggu kepada bapa mereka.

Mahkamah sama juga pada 30 Mei 2014 memerintahkan polis mendapatkan anak-anak itu agar diambil semula dari bapa mereka.

Percanggahan arahan kedua-dua mahkamah itu menyebabkan Ketua Polis Negara, Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar tidak mengambil tindakan.

Langkah itu yang disifatkannya sebagai 'jalan tengah' mengundang perdebatan hangat di kalangan khalayak, ahli politik dan pengamal undang-undang.

Senario ini, kata Gani, menimbulkan persoalan berhubung bidang kuasa Mahkamah Syariah dan Mahkamah Sivil khususnya melibatkan tafsiran Perkara 121(1A) Perlembagaan Persekutuan.

"Tindakan mencelah di Mahkamah Rayuan ini diambil bagi memastikan isu-isu yang berbangkit dalam kedua-dua kes ini dapat diselesaikan secara muktamad (once and for all), adil, aman dan harmoni menurut Perlembagaan Persekutuan dan undang-undang yang berkuatkuasa," kata Gani lagi.         

Introducing a new twist to the interfaith custody disputes, Attorney-General Abdul Gani is seeking to intervene and suspend the custody orders issued by the civil and syariah courts.

This move would also rescue Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar, whose reluctance to enforce a court order to arrest a Muslim convert father could have led to him face contempt charges.

In a statement today, Gani said the intervention is necessary because the two cases have become a "public interest matter" which touches on "religious sensitivity" and has "upset public order".

Apart from this, he added that it has also become a "constitutional issue."

"The department (chambers) will apply to intervene in the proceeding at the Court of Appeal and the High Court and apply for a suspension of both orders by the civil and syariah courts on the police," he said.

Gani said both cases involved constitutional issues regarding the jurisdiction of the syariah and civil courts especially on the interpretation of Article 121 (1A) of the Federal Constitution.

"The action to be an intervener at the Court of Appeal is taken to ensure there are no rising issues in both cases and that it could be resolved once and for all, to ensure justice, peace and harmony.

"Besides this, for purpose of intervening in the proceedings in both cases, the AGC will consider making an application to the Federal Court for a final decision over the constitutional questions that arise from both cases," he added.

It was previously reported that the police chief was at crossroads over the two custody orders, where the Syariah High Court granted custody to the converted fathers while the civil High Court ordered that the children be placed in the care of their Hindu mothers.- mk

Altantuya murder: Scapegoats or not, apex court reserves judgement on Najib's ex-bodyguards

The Federal Court here today reserved its judgement in the prosecution's appeal against the acquittal of two former Special Action Unit (UTK) personnel on a charge of murdering Mongolian woman Altantuya Shaariibuu.

Chief Justice Tun Arifin Zakaria, chairing a five-member panel, deferred their decision to a date which would be announced on a later date after the prosecution and defence ended their submissions today.

The panel, also comprising Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak Tan Sri Richard Malanjum and Federal Court judges Tan Sri Abdull Hamid Embong, Tan Sri Suriyadi Halim Omar and Tan Sri Ahmad Maarop, heard submissions in the appeal for three days from Monday.

The prosecution is appealing against the Court of Appeal's decision in acquitting Chief Inspector Azilah Hadri, 37, and Corporal Sirul Azhar Umar, 42, on a charge of killing Altantuya, 28, at Mukim Bukit Raja in Shah Alam between 10pm on Oct 19 and 1am, the following day in 2006.

The Court of Appeal had on Aug 23, last year allowed the appeal brought by the two policemen to set aside the 2009 Shah Alam High Court's decision in finding them guilty for the woman's murder and sentenced them to death.

Former political analyst Abdul Razak Baginda, 50, who was charged with abetting Azilah and Sirul Azhar, was acquitted by the High Court on Oct 31, 2008 after it held that the prosecution failed to establish a prima facie case against him.

The prosecution did not appeal against his acquittal. In today's proceeding, Sirul Azhar's counsel Kamarul Hisham Kamaruddin argued that his client was being made a scapegoat.

Justice Arifin then said: "If he is being made a scapegoat, he must be able to say why and by whom. Everyone would say that. You can't say you are being made a scapegoat for no reason."

Kamarul Hisham said there were two reasons for a person being made a scapegoat, firstly when someone was framing the person and secondly, evidence against a person was fabricated by the police.

"My client is saying that evidence was fabricated against him," he said, adding that Sirul Azhar did not know why he was being targeted.

Kamarul Hisham said the real person who committed the crime was not called to court. He said after police suspected Sirul Azhar based on some evidence, they could have fabricated more evidence to bolster their case.

Kamarul Hisham also said the Court of Appeal was correct to rule that the High Court judge misdirected himself when he did not address the issue of common intention to commit murder, although he found both policemen guilty on the murder charge.

He said the CCTV which captured Sirul Azhar exiting the toll gate towards Kota Damansara did not incriminate him as it was the way he normally used to return to his home in Jalan Semarak.

He also said that Sirul Azhar's presence, together with Azilah, at Abdul Razak's residence and at Hotel Malaya, where Altantuya was staying, was in doing their duties as police personnel.

In his reply, Deputy Solicitor-General II, Datuk Tun Abdul Majid Tun Hamzah said there were circumstantial evidence pointing the two policemen to the crime.

He said Azilah's defence alibi of being at Wangsa Maju was demolished by the prosecution's evidence adduced through the call logs which disclosed that he was in Bukit Aman and then to Abdul Razak's residence.

Tun Majid said police investigation also showed that Altantuya was taken in Sirul Azhar's car, adding that the woman's jewellery was also found in Sirul Azhar's black jacket. – Bernama

Mahkamah Persekutuan tangguh keputusan rayuan

Pemimpin UMNO mahu jadi raja...

Bekas menteri Tan Sri Zainuddin Maidin meluahkan rasa terkejut dan kekecewaannya terhadap pujian pengarang kanan Utusan Malaysia yang memuji cara pakaian pemimpin Umno dalam sebuah majlis kelmarin.

Cara berpakaian seperti persalinan kepahlawanan Melayu yang dipuji Zaini Hassan itu, menurut Zainuddin, menimbulkan persepsi Umno semakin jauh daripada rakyat biasa ringkas hidupnya.

Ini, tambahnya lagi, apabila harga songket pembesar negara termasuk pemimpin Umno berharga mahal antara RM5,000 hingga RM30,000.

“Dengan berpakaian 'raja bangsawan' ini , Umno memberikan persepsi kepada rakyat bahawa mereka terus tidak memahami perasaan di akar umbi sekarang, Umno semakin jauh dari rakyat, tidak melambangkan Umno sebagai parti rakyat.

“Pemimpin pemimpin bercakap tentang amalan kehidupan yang sederhana tetapi tidak sahaja ahli-ahlinya yang tidak faham tetapi pemimpin-pemimpin juga adalah ibarat burung nuri,” sindir Zainuddin.

Zaini dalam tulisannya berjudul “Umno Cheras terbaik!” antaranya menulis dengan memuji cara pakaian dalam majlis ulang tahun ke-20 Umno Cheras, yang turut dihadiri Perdana Menteri Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

Pakaian PAP Singapura

Selain memuji pakaiannya yang elok, Zaini (bawah) juga berkata nilai estetikanya tinggi dan sepatutnya perlu ada muzium menempatkan semua pakaian Melayu silam untuk tatapan generasi sekarang dan akan datang.

Beliau juga mengucapkan syabas kepada kepimpinan Umno Cheras dan ketuanya Syed Ali Alhabshee.

“Sebagai seorang yang bukan ahli Umno, selagi masih berada dalam alam kerjaya ini, saya melihat parti itu dengan penuh harapan - syaratnya contohilah Cheras!” tulis Zaini.

Menulis di blognya hari ini, Zainuddin juga membandingkannya dengan keadaan semasa kerajaan Parti Tindakan Rakyat (PAP) Singapura ditubuhkan.

UMNO leaders want to be kings...

Former information minister Zainuddin Maidin said he was shocked to read a column in Utusan Malaysia praising Umno leaders dressed as Malay warriors during the party's Cheras division anniversary celebration.

Clad in expensive "kain songket" from head to toe, the daily's columnist claimed that it was the attire of warriors and Malay dignitaries of the past.

However, Zainuddin, who is popularly known as Zam, said he was tickled by the photograph that was published in the newspaper yesterday.

"I wonder if the Malay warriors of the past, who were poor, had donned expensive songket or if this showcased ordinary Malays becoming feudalistic through wealth," he said in his blog today.

"What is certain is that Umno leaders are not in touch with reality nor do they appreciate the inspiration of the new generation where most lead simple lives even among the professionals, except for a handful  - the children of the new rich Malays who accumulated their wealth through politics or the bureaucracy," he added.

Zainuddin, the former editor-in-chief of Utusan Malaysia, pointed out that the price of songket worn by Malay dignitaries and Umno leaders today ranged from between RM5,000 and RM30,000.

By adorning such garments, he said Umno gave the impression that it continues to misunderstand the feelings of the grassroots.

"The leaders speak about living moderately but not only do the members not understand this, the leaders themselves are like parrots (that repeat the statement)," he added.

Zainuddin reminded Umno politicians that perception is more important and easily propagated than facts and figures.

"(Opposition leader) Anwar Ibrahim constructed the perception that he is a champion of Islam even when he has committed a great sin.

"PAS has developed its religious image to the point that the party is considered as the gateway to heaven," he added.

Expressing concern for Umno's future, he said what had unraveled in Cheras Umno gave the impression that Umno leaders want to be kings and not ordinary citizens.

Utusan had dedicated an entire page to photographs from the event, on the occasion of the division's 20th anniversary, which was attended by Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and his wife Rosmah Mansor.- mk

Isteri juruterbang MH370 bersuara, sahkan suara Zaharie dari kokpit, lapor akhbar...

Lebih tiga bulan selepas kehilangan pesawat Malaysia Airlines (MAS) MH370, isteri juruterbang Kapten Zaharie Ahmad Shah akhirnya bersuara.

Faizah Khan memberitahu dua wartawan New Zealand yang menulis buku berkenaan kapal terbang hilang itu, suara semasa ucapan terakhir dari penerbangan itu adalah milik suaminya Zaharie, lapor akhbar harian di United Kingdom, The Telegraph hari ini.

Beliau berkata anak sulungnya mengenal pasti suara yang mengeluarkan kata-kata “sign-off” akhir adalah bapanya.

Pada mulanya didedahkan para pegawai Malaysia sehari selepas kehilangan penerbangan MH370 bahawa kata-kata akhir dari kokpit adalah "Allright, goodnight", dan ia dikatakan oleh pembantu juruterbang Fariq Abdul Hamid.

Bagaimanapun pada 31 Mac, Jabatan Penerbangan Awam (DCA) mendedahkan kata-kata terakhir "Selamat malam Malaysia tiga tujuh kosong", dan tidak dapat dipastikan sama ada suara itu milik juruterbang atau pembantu juruterbang.

Panggilan dibuat dari kokpit kepada pengawal trafik udara di Kuala Lumpur semasa pesawat berada di Laut China Selatan dan meninggalkan ruang udara Malaysia, kurang daripada satu jam selepas berlepas.

Penerbangan MH370 dengan 239 orang penumpang dan anak kapal hilang kira-kira sejam selepas berlepas dari Kuala Lumpur, tidak lama selepas tengah malam pada 8 Mac, menuju ke Beijing, di mana ia dijadualkan tiba pada pukul 6.30 pagi, hari yang sama.

Menurut The Telegraph, Geoff Taylor, timbalan pengarang Waikato Times New Zealand, beliau dan pengarang bersama, Ewan Wilson bercakap dengan adik ipar Zaharie, Asuad Khan di Pulau Pinang dan kemudian isteri juruterbang berusia 53 tahun itu.

Asuad pada mulanya mendakwa suara dari kokpit bukan milik Zaharie tetapi selepas memanggil kakaknya di hadapan kedua-dua wartawan, beliau mengesahkan suara itu milik suaminya.

"Dalam tempoh lebih kurang tiga bulan, sejak penerbangan hilang, tiada media berjaya mendapatkan kenyataan daripada isteri Zaharie itu," kata Taylor yang dipetik oleh The Telegraph.

"Kami bernasib baik berjaya mendapatkan pengesahan daripada dia bahawa Zaharie adalah individu yang berada dalam kokpit."

Dilaporkan pada Ahad oleh sebuah lagi akhbar UK, The Sunday Times, Zaharie kekal sebagai suspek utama kehilangan pesawat MH370.

Sambil menambah, kegagalan mekanikal atau keganasan tidak dapat diketepikan, akhbar itu berkata polis percaya jika ia tindakan manusia, kapten adalah pelaku yang paling berkemungkinan.

Laporan itu, yang juga disiarkan dalam The Australian, berkata polis cawangan khas Malaysia memberi tumpuan siasatan terhadap Zaharie selepas pemeriksaan perisikan gagal menemui sebarang bukti mencurigakan pada orang lain di dalam pesawat itu.

Laporan memetik seorang jurucakap polis Malaysia berkata: "Siasatan polis masih lagi dijalankan. Setakat ini tiada kesimpulan yang boleh dibuat tentang punca kepada insiden dan ia akan menjadi sub judice untuk berkata demikian. Bagaimanapun, pihak polis masih mencari meneliti semua sudut yang berkemungkinan."

Pemangku Menteri Pengangkutan Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein menolak laporan The Sunday Times dengan memberitahu media tempatan bahawa "kita tidak perlu melayan teori konspirasi".

Ketua Polis Negara Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar juga mengkritik laporan akhbar UK itu, mengulangi bahawa sebarang kenyataan mengenai siasatan ke atas kehilangan penerbangan MH370 akan datang secara langsung daripada pihak polis dan bukan melalui media asing. ~tmi

MH370 pilot’s wife breaks silence, confirms Zaharie’s voice from cockpit, says The Telegraph... 

More than three months after the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines flight MH370, the wife of the pilot Captain Zaharie Ahmad Shah has finally broken her silence.

Faizah Khan told two New Zealand journalists who are writing a book about the missing plane, that the voice behind the final sign off that came from the flight was that of her husband Zaharie, UK daily The Telegraph reported today.

She said that her eldest son had identified the voice which delivered the final sign-off as that of his father.

It was initially revealed by Malaysian officials days after the disappearance of flight MH370 that the final words from the cockpit were "Allright, goodnight", and that it was spoken by the co-pilot First Officer Fariq Abdul Hamid.

However, on March 31, the Department of Civial Aviation revealed that the last words were "Good night Malaysian three seven zero", and that it was not sure if the voice was that of the pilot or the co-pilot.

The call was made from the cockpit to air traffic controllers in Kuala Lumpur while the aircraft was over the South China Sea and leaving Malaysian air space, less than an hour after take-off.

Flight MH370 with 239 people on board vanished about an hour after departing Kuala Lumpur, shortly after midnight on March 8, heading for Beijing, where it was scheduled to have arrived at 6.30am the same day.

According to The Telegraph, Geoff Taylor, deputy editor of New Zealand's Waikato Times, said he and his co-author Ewan Wilson spoke to Zaharie's brother-in-law Asuad Khan in Penang and then to the 53-year-old pilot's wife.

Asuad had initially claimed the voice from the cockpit was not Zaharie's but after calling his sister in the presence of the two journalists, she confirmed the voice belonged to her husband.

"In the three months-plus since the flight went down no one in the media has been able to get close to Zaharie's widow," Taylor was quoted as saying by The Telegraph.

"We were lucky to get confirmation from her that it was him who was at the helm."

It was reported on Sunday by another UK paper, The Sunday Times, that Zaharie remains a prime suspect over the disappearance of the plane.

Adding that mechanical failure or terrorism has not been ruled out, the paper said the police believed that if it was the result of human action, the captain was the most likely perpetrator.

The report, which was also carried in The Australian, said Malaysia's special branch had focused the inquiry on Zaharie after intelligence checks failed to substantiate any suspicions about the other people on board the aircraft.

The reports quoted a spokesman for the Malaysian police as saying: “The police investigation is still ongoing. To date no conclusions can be made as to the contributor to the incident and it would be sub judice to say so. Nevertheless, the police are still looking into all possible angles.”

Acting Transport Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein rejected the report from The Sunday Times telling local media that "we should not entertain conspiracy theories".

The Inspector-General of Police also criticised the UK paper for its coverage, reiterating that any statement on the investigation over the disappearance of flight MH370 will come directly from the police and not through foreign media. – tmi

Pendengaran rayuan terhadap pembebasan Chf Inspektor Azilah Hadri dan Koperal Sirul Azhar Umar atas pertuduhan membunuh warganegara Mongolia Altantuya Shaariibuu memasuki hari kedua hari ini.

Pada 23 Ogos tahun lalu, Mahkamah Rayuan membebaskan Azilah dan Sirul daripada pertuduhan membunuh selepas sebulat suara membenarkan rayuan mereka dan meminda sabitan hukuman mati yang diputuskan Mahkamah Tinggi Shah Alam pada 2009.

Pihak pendakwaan diketuai oleh Timbalan Peguam Cara Negara II Tun Abdul Majid Tun Hamzah.

Azilah diwakili oleh peguam Hazman Ahmad, J Kuldeep Kumar sementara Sirul diwakili oleh Kamarul Hisham Kamaruddin, Hasnal Rezua Merican dan Ahmad Zaidi Zainol.

Rayuan akan didengar di hadapan lima panel hakim diketuai Ketua Hakim Negara Arifin Zakaria.

Hakim terlibat adalah Ketua Hakim Sabah dan Sarawak Richard Malanjum dan tiga hakim Mahkamah Persekutuan, iaitu Abdull Hamid Embung, Suriyadi Halim Omar dan Ahmad Maarop.

Timbalan Menteri pegang saham syarikat konsesi UiTM Tapah...

Ahli Parlimen Pasir Salak yang juga Timbalan Menteri Pertanian dan Industri Asas Tani, Dato’ Tajuddin Rahman (gambar)mempunyai pegangan minoriti di dalam konsesi penswastaan UiTM kampus cawangan Tapah, dedah Pengarah Strategi PKR, Rafizi Ramli. 

Fakta ini, jelas Rafizi mengulangi apa yang berlaku dalam konsesi-konsesi penswastaan kampus cawangan UiTM apabila setiap syarikat konsesi didapati mempunyai kaitan dengan para pemimpin Umno atau ahli perniagaan yang rapat dengan Umno.

"Konsesi penswastaan UiTM cawangan Tapah dianugerahkan kepada UniTapah Sdn Bhd dengan konsesi selama 23 tahun untuk membina dan menyewakan kembali kampus itu kepada UiTM. 

"Salah seorang pengarah UniTapah Sdn Bhd ialah Sri Rahayu Tajuddin, iaitu anak kepada Dato’ Tajuddin Rahman. 

"Sri Rahayu juga pernah menjadi Setiausaha Umno Bahagian Pasir Salak yang diketuai oleh Dato’ Tajuddin Rahman," dedah Rafizi.

Rafizi yang juga Ahli Parlimen Pandan turut mendedahkan hubungan seorang pengarah UniTapah Sdn Bhd, Vignesh Naidu a/l Kuppusamy Naidu dengan Dato’ Tajuddin Rahman melalui usahasama perniagaan.

Menurutnya, selain UniTapah Sdn Bhd, Tajuddin dan Vignesh mempunyai hubungan dalam sebuah syarikat pembinaan, Everfine Resources Sdn Bhd dengan Tajuddin sebagai pengerusi dan Vignesh sebagai pengarah.

Jelas beliau, kepentingan Tajuddin dalam syarikat konsesi pembinaan kampus UiTM Tapah dipegang melalui Detik Utuh Sdn Bhd yang mempunyai 9.8% kepentingan dalam UniTapah Sdn Bhd; manakala saham selebihnya dipegang syarikat pembinaan yang disenaraikan di Bursa Kuala Lumpur, Crest Builder Holdings Berhad (melalui Crest Builder International Sdn Bhd).

Dato’ Tajuddin Rahman memiliki 450,000 saham di dalam Detik Utuh Sdn Bhd, menjadikan beliau pemegang saham terbesar. 

Saham-saham selebihnya dimiliki oleh Vignesh Naidu (150,000 saham) dan Obata-Ambak Holdings Sdn Bhd (400,000 saham). 

Obata-Ambak Sdn Bhd adalah sebuah syarikat yang dikawal oleh keluarga isteri Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.

"Pengarah-pengarah di dalam Detik Utuh Sdn Bhd adalah individu-individu yang rapat dengan Dato’ Tajuddin Rahman iaitu anaknya sendiri (Sri Rahayu) dan kenalan perniagaan beliau iaitu Vignesh Naidu dan Haniff Mahmood," ujar Rafizi.

Rafizi menambah, walaupun pegangan Tajuddin dalam syarikat konsesi terbabit tidak sebesar pegangan ahli-ahli politik Umno yang lain dalam konsesi yang telah didedahkan sebelum ini, ia mengesahkan bahawa setiap konsesi penswastaan kampus cawangan UiTM menguntungkan ahli politik Umno dengan bayaran sewa yang cukup membebankan rakyat. - Harakahdaily

Malaysian radar not reliable, says Houston...

Malaysia’s air defence radar is not properly calibrated, preventing analysts from determining the exact altitude for the missing Malaysian Airlines System (MAS) Flight MH370.

The New York Times (NYT) quoted unnamed officials today as saying that this revelation is the main evidence for the upcoming major shift in the search area, which is still being determined.

Joint Agency Coordination Centre (JACC) chief Angus Houston (right) and Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) chief commissioner declined to discuss the specifics of Malaysia’s military radar, but both agreed that it is unreliable.

“The primary radar data pertaining to altitude is regarded as unreliable,” the NYT quotes Houston as saying.

He said while it was clearly possible that MH370 flew below 23,000 feet (7,000 metres) at some point when it is still under radar coverage, he doubted that anyone could prove that the aircraft had soared and swooped, as some early media reports had claimed.

The report said a military radar needs to be recalibrated regularly to fit local atmospheric conditions in order to provide reliable altitude readings.

Previously, The New York Times had quoted unnamed US investigators claiming that based on Malaysia’s military radar, the aircraft climbed to 45,000 feet (13,700 metres), above the approved altitude limit, made a sharp turn to the west, and descended unevenly to 23,000 feet, below normal cruising levels, after disappearing from the civilian radar.

MH370 was last seen on civilian radar cruising at 35,000 feet (10,700 metres), where fuel consumption is more efficient, before contact was lost and it was later tracked as an unidentified aircraft on military radar.

However, revelations that the Malaysian military radar has not been calibrated has helped investigators determine that the aircraft was probably in controlled flight and not seriously damaged, the report said.

The steadier flight would allow the Boeing 777-200ER aircraft to fly further, hence the forthcoming change in search area - which is expected to be announced by the end of the month.- mk

MH370 ‘still somewhere in south Indian Ocean’...

A top executive from Malaysia Airlines System (MAS) believes the missing MH370 plane is still somewhere in the south Indian Ocean, but it will take decades before the plane is found.

Hugh Dunleavy, MAS commercial director, was the first person to rush to the emergency room on the morning of March 8 when he was informed the plane had gone missing.

“Something untoward happened to that plane,” he said in an exclusive interview with a British newspaper, Evening Standard.

“I think it made a turn to come back, then a sequence of events overtook it, and it was unable to return to base,” the Evening Standard quoted Dunleavy, 61, as saying.

“I believe it’s somewhere in the south Indian Ocean.”

But he believes that pinpointing the location of the crash is difficult.

“When (a plane) hits the ocean it’s like hitting concrete.The wreckage could be spread over a big area.

“And there are mountains and canyons in that ocean. I think it could take a really long time to find. We’re talking decades.”

Recalling the early hours of the tragedy, Dunleavy said false information was coming in at  “frightening speed”.

“Rumours were coming in on social media. ‘Your plane has landed in Nanning, China.’ ‘It’s in the airport of an island near Borneo’”, he said.

Dunleavy was quick to defend MAS, saying the airline did its best to help the Chinese relatives on board MH370.

Malaysia recently denied reports that MH370 pilot, Captain Zaharie Shah, was the prime suspect in the tragic incident.- fmt
