Tengku 'celup' Adnan, awak menjadi dungu seorang diri cukup, jangan berterusan mendungukan orang lain...

 

Kelmarin saya tergamam apabila Menteri di JPM Menteri menyatakan di Dewan Rakyat tentang dakwat kekal mengandungi pewarna makanan yang dibenarkan.

Hari ini saya terkedu apabila Menteri Wilayah Persekutuan pula menyatakan Malaysia tidak perlu menggunakan dakwat kekal dalam pilihan raya kerana negara ini bukannya seperti "negara dunia ketiga" lain.

Saya kira kedua-dua kenyataan menteri tersebut terkeluar tajuk. Isunya ialah mengapa dakwat kekal yang digunakan oleh SPR dalam pilihan raya yang lalu tidak kekal, bukannya perlu atau tidak perlu menggunakan dakwat kekal? Saya kira soal harapan rakyat untuk melihat dakwat kekal seperti yang dijanjikan tetapi tidak kekal adalah isu besar yang perlu dijawab oleh menteri yang bertanggungjawab dan SPR. Oleh itu, kenyataan menteri di atas adalah satu jawapan yang pada saya menggambarkan bukannya negara kita dunia ketiga, tetapi komen pemimpin kita yang kelas ketiga.

Buat apa kita membandingkan negara kita dengan dunia ketiga yang lain? Jika kita kahu bandingkan pun, dari segi sistem pengundian, negara kita masih jauh mundur ke belakang. India dan Indonesia menggunakan dakwat kekal, tetapi tidak ada kecelakaan yang menimpa pengundi mereka. Sebaliknya yang berlaku ialah sistem pilihan raya mereka dilihat demokratik, adil dan memenuhi aspirasi rakyat. Itu yang kita mahu—satu pilihan raya yang telus dan ada integriti supaya tidak timbul kontroversi seperti sekarang ini. 

Jika kita mahu bandingkan sistem pilihan raya kita dengan di negara maju, kedudukannya adalah jauh panggang dari api. Di negara maju, sistem pilihan rayanya adil dan bebas, medianya bebas dan pengurusan pilihan rayanya baik. Di negara maju, mereka tidak lagi menggunakan dakwat kekal, tetapi menggunakan sistem biometrik. Apakah kita mampu menjadi seperti mereka atau telahpun mencapai tahap seperti mereka?

Baiklah, jika kita tidak mahu gunakan dakwat kekal, saya mahu cadangkan dalam pilihan raya yang akan datang, kita gunakan mesin mengesan cap jari. Penggunaan mesin ini baik kerana selain dapat mengesahkan identiti pengundi, mesin ini juga secara automatiknya dapat menolak mereka yang cuba untuk mengundi dua kali. Mengapa timbulnya persepsi adanya pengundian dua kali ini? Ini kerana keraguan kepada senarai pengundi SPR? Bilakah SPR dapat menyelesaikan persepsi rakyat yang negatif ini?

YB pemimpin, tolong selesaikan isu dakwat kekal ini dengan baik. Tolong jangan berikan jawapan yang berterusan mendungukan rakyat. Setakat ini, saya lihat jawapan pemimpin adalah sama seperti pengail yang mengail, tetapi memilih menggunakan umpan yang tidak dimakan ikan. - Mohammad Agus Yusoff

Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor berkata "Kita tak perlukan dakwat kekal pun. Untuk apa? Kita bukan negara (dunia) ketiga, kita ada kad pengenalan yang boleh dikenal pasti. Dakwat kekal ini pembangkang yang minta di Parlimen dan kita setuju dan ikut,"

Tambahnya lagi, Malaysia juga tidak memerlukan dakwat kekal seperti "negara dunia ketiga" lain.-malaysiakini

Malaysia does not need to have indelible ink as part of its electoral process because we are not a "third world country", Federal Territories Minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said today.

Speaking to reporters outside of the Dewan Rakyat, Tengku Adnan (left) said that the indelible ink was only agreed upon in the Parliament because "the opposition wanted it."

"They wanted it, so Parliament agreed. But having too much of chemicals in the ink is not good for the health of the people," he said.

"In India, it lasts for one or two months, it is not healthy," he added.

"The chemicals were reduced because the government cares for the people," Tengku Adnan stressed.

He added that the system with identity cards is good enough for the country and it does not specifically need indelible ink as well.-malaysiakini

But the problem here is that we have third world mentality government running the country, not to mention a minority government. That why we need all the tools available to make sure election is not high jacked by this minority government and its EC lap dogs.

Odin - Adnan, you are right only but only in saying that Malaysia is not a Third World country. It is not. It is lower than that. When a country has in its cabinet thieves, rapists, sex maniacs, philanderers, adulterers, paedophiles, con men and similar denizens of the sewer, it is one in the Bottom-most World. Speaking of which, who was it that was involved in Lingamgate? Wasn't it a certain Tengku Somebody? And isn't he still in the rats-and-cockroaches-infested, foul-smelling kitchen cabinet?

Multi Racial - Malaysia is a third world not because of it's infrastructure but more so of their politicians like Ku Nan. If you remember the case, he was involved in the Lingam case where in broker a deal between the Chief Judge and Lingam. In spite of that he was chosen to by UMNO secretary general, he was nominated as UMNO candidate for Parliamentary seat and he was selected as a minister. As you can see, we have a tainted guy who have not clear his name but honour with such high position. That is why we need to check every detail especially election where you know what these people are capable of. We need indelible ink, not because of Malaysians but more so of the crooks among the politicians Malaysians do not trust.

Kes Menteri Dalam Negeri menumbuk muka Amir Bazli Abdullah didengar pada Ogos 26 ini...

Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi (gambar) menggunakan semua ruang undang-undang untuk menghalang kes saman terhadapnya didengari di mahkamah.

Mahkamah Persekutuan pagi ini menolak permohonan menteri dalam negeri itu yang cuba mendapatkan kebenaran merayu terhadap keputusan mahkamah lebih rendah mengatakan kes saman itu perlu dibicarakan.

Saman itu difailkan oleh Amir Bazli Abdullah terhadap Ahmad Zahid yang dituduh menumbuk mukanya pada 16 Januari 2006 di Kelab Rekreasi Country Heights di Kajang, Selangor.

Amir Bazli mengalami patah hidung (kecederaan kekal) dan rosak kekal di bahagian sebelah kiri mata.

Lima orang Hakim Mahkamah Rayuan yang diketuai oleh Tan Sri Md Raus Sharif mengatakan persoalan undang-undang sudah selesai.

"Mahkamah Tinggi memutuskan bahawa kes itu perlu dibicarakan dan Mahkamah Rayuan mempunyai pendapat sama," kata hakim itu.

"Biarlah ini dibicarakan di mahkamah dan biarkan mahkamah membuat keputusan. Dia akan mempunyai ruang untuk merayu kemudian."

Md Raus kemudian menolak permohonan Ahmad Zahid dengan kos RM5,000. 

Semasa kejadian itu dikatakan berlaku, Ahmad Zahid merupakan timbalan menteri penerangan.

Dalam satu kenyataan tuntutannya, Amir Bazli berkata, kira-kira jam 10 malam pada 16 Jan, 2006, dia berada di sebuah stesen minyak di Bangi apabila ejen defendan mendekati dan mengugutnya. 

Mereka membawanya secara paksa ke kelab rekreasi Country Heights di Kajang.

Terdapat, plaintif menyaksikan Ahmad Zahid dengan menantunya bernama Hisham dan anak lelakinya yang dikenali sebagai KK. Terdapat juga beberapa yang lain bersama mereka.  - malaysian insider

Karpal gesa AG dakwa Zahid Hamidi...

MP Bukit Gelugor Karpal Singh menggesa peguam negara mendakwa Menteri Dalam Negeri Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi atas tuduhan menyerang dan cubaan membunuh anak guamnya, ahli perniagaan Amir Bazli Abdullah, dalam satu kejadian pada 2006.

Karpal berkata, tiada tempoh masa ditetapkan untuk peguam negara menjalankan pendakwaan itu.

"Jika anda melihat keadaan kecederaan Amir Bazli Abdullah dan laporan polis yang dibuat ke atas Zahid, orang akan tertanya-tanya mengapa tiada pendakwaan dijalankan.

"Ini menunjukkan sifat semulajadi di negara ini (tidak mengambil tindakan),” katanya.

Sementara itu, peguam Gobind Singh Deo pula menuntut penggantungan jawatan Zahid sebagai menteri sebelum saman tersebut didengar di Mahkamah Tinggi Shah Alam, yang dijadualkan diadakan pada Ogos.

“Saya juga akan membangkitkan perkara ini di Parlimen,” katanya.

Zahid Hamidi to answer assault suit...

Umno vice-president and Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi's bid to strike out an assault suit filed against him by a businessman was thrown out by the Federal Court today.

Court of Appeal president Justice Md Raus Sharif, who headed a five-member bench, dismissed Zahid's application for leave to appeal before hearing submissions from Zahid's lawyer Shamsul Bahrin.

Shamsul Bahrin pointed out that the issue at hand refers to trespassing against a person. However, Karpal Singh, then the lawyer acting for Amir Bazli, interjected and pointed out that the points of law were not filed via a notice of motion. 

The judges found that the points of law that were to be presented to the court were not done properly, for this was not done through a notice of motion but through submission.

"The matter has not gone through trial at the High Court in Shah Alam and you are not deprived of an appeal process. Let the trial proceed in the High Court.

"If we were to allow such application before the appeal proper, it will hold up other cases," Justice Md Raus said.

With this ruling of the highest court in the country, the civil suit by businessman Amir Bazli Abdullah (left in photo) against the home minister will begin in the High Court in Shah Alam on Aug 26.

Besides Justice Md Raus, the other judges in the hearing are Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak Richard Malanjum and Federal Court judges Abdull Hamid Embong, Suriyadi Halim Omar and Zainun Ali.
Amir Bazli, who had known Ahmad Zahid’s daughter, in his statement of claim alleged the minister, his son-in-law and others took him from a petrol station near Bangi, while he was filling petrol, sometime in early January 2006 to Country Heights, Kajang.

There they assaulted him with a hard object, resulting in his nose and skull being fractured.

“As a result of the beatings my left eye was swollen, and I could not open my eyes properly,” he said in his statement of claim.

Ahmad Bazli also claimed that Ahmad Zahid had threatened to kill him on that night and asked him to be placed in a gunny sack and said  we will tanam (bury) you.

He was kept in Ahmad Zahid’s house until 2am before being released.

As a result of the injuries, he spent two weeks seeking treatment and subsequently he lodged a police report over the incident.

He is seeking the costs of his treatment, special, general, exemplary and aggravated damages and costs of the action.

Ahmad Zahid filed counter-claim

Ahmad Zahid, then a deputy minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, claimed in his defence that they did not taken Amir Bazli and he had came to their place on his own free will.

He denied punching Amir Bazli and claimed the injury was a concoction. He further denied causing serious injury to Amir Bazli’s face and did not leave a scar or even a mark.

The Umno vice-president further denied uttering the words that he would bury Amir Bazli and described it as scandalous. He also claimed it was false that he and his son-in-law had confined Amir Bazli.

Ahmad Zahid further claimed that his daughter is married to another person, and that Amir Bazli had abducted her and the couple’s two year-old child.

He claimed the incident had led to false publication of what actually transpired as it had been highlighted in several portals and Chinese newspapers.

Ahmad Zahid is seeking damages for causing considerable distress, libel, general damages for libel and other relief deemed fit by the court.- malaysiakini

Karpal urges AG to charge the home minister...

Veteran lawyer and Bukit Gelugor MP Karpal Singh has urged the attorney-general (AG) to charge Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi for assault and battery, and attempted murder of his client, businessman Amir Bazli Abdullah, in 2006.

Karpal (extreme left in photo) said that there is no time frame for the AG to prosecute, and that it could do so.

"If you look at the nature of Amir Bazli Abdullah's injury and the police report lodged against Zahid, one is left wondering why there was no prosecution done.

"This shows the nature in this country (in not taking action)," he added.

Meanwhile, lawyer and Puchong MP Gobind Singh Deo has called for Zahid to be suspended as a minister pending the hearing of the civil suit at the Shah Alam High Court, which is scheduled in August.

"I will also raise the matter in Parliament," he said.

“I have written to the AG over this as it is a serious matter that requires prosecution. However, he declined. It is still not too late. This shows the nature in this country (in not taking action) when people in high places are involved,” he added.

He said this is a clear-cut assault and battery case as there was enough evidence from Amir Bazli.

Karpal said today’s decision means that the matter will go for a full trial and the court decided that the suit is not frivolous.

“They (Ahmad Zahid’s lawyers) have tried to strike out the suit at the High Court and it was dismissed, and they tried it again at the Court of Appeal and again here.

“Let the matter go to a full trial,” he said.

Whatever it is, Karpal declared that Ahmad Zahid is not fit to continue as a minister.

‘Suspend Zahid’

Meanwhile, lawyer and Puchong MP Gobind Singh Deo has urged that Zahid be suspended as a minister pending the hearing of the civil suit at the Shah Alam High Court, which is scheduled in August.

“I reiterate my urging to the prime minister to suspend Ahmad Zahid as the home minister pending trial. I will also raise the matter in Parliament,” he said.

“The allegations against him are serious in nature and they extend beyond assault,” he said.

In reading out Ahmad Bazli's police report, Gobind said Ahmad Bazli was slapped, punched and hit with a hard object and they even threaten to cut off both his hands.

Even Ahmad Zahid, he said, allegedly threatened to put Ahmad Bazli in a gunny sack for the businessman to be buried, until this was stopped by the minister’s wife.

“These are serious allegation and the PM must explain why he sees it fit to have Ahmad Zahid remain as the home minister,” he said.

The Puchong lawmaker said, look at the A Kugan case where the judge found against the police and (present inspector-general of police) Khalid Abu Bakar.

Yet, he said, Khalid was promoted to become the IGP.

“The court has said something against the IGP. Yet he remains. I do not understand the PM, is he out in the woods, not being able to see the implications of his actions (to maintain them).

“We will have a home minister going for trial for something this serious soon. I reiterate my urging to remove him, or otherwise the PM should explain in these circumstances why Ahmad Zahid should remain as a minister in his cabinet and home minister.”

Amir Bazli said the extent of the injury to his left eye as a result of the 2006 assault, had resulted in him having blurred vision till today, and he also showed his dented forehead following the fracture.-malaysiakini

Bila Anwar memperlekeh Annuar...

Keghairahan Ahli Parlimen Ketereh, Tan Sri Annuar Musa mencelah ketika perbahasan Titah Yang di-Pertuan Agong oleh Ketua Pembangkang, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, akhirnya terkena diri sendiri.

Beliau pada mulanya bangkit mempersoal ketidaksepakatan Pakatan Rakyat ekoran gagal mengemukakan satu logo mewakili ketiga-tiga parti dalam PRU13 lalu.

Bagaimanapun dakwaan beliau itu terus dibantah oleh beberapa ahli parlimen Pakatan Rakyat termasuklah Ahli Parlimen Kuala Langat, Abdullah Sani, Ahli Parlimen Petaling Jaya Utara, Tony Pua, dan Ahli Parlimen Sepang, Hanipa Maidin.

Mereka mengutuk Annuar Musa kerana tidak mendapatkan maklumat yang betul sebelum membuat tuduhan.

Sehubungan itu, Anwar menyindir Annuar yang hanya mendapat maklumat daripada Utusan Malaysia.

"Yang Berhormat Ketereh ambil maklumat daripada Utusan!

"Dua tahun setengah Pakatan Rakyat mengemukakan pendaftaran Pakatan Rakyat sebagai satu parti, sampai sekarang tidak diluluskan," tegas Anwar sambil menepuk meja dan diikuti tepukan barisan ahli parlimen Pakatan Rakyat.

Bagaimanapun Annuar kelihatan tersengih-tersengih setelah diejek oleh barisan ahli parlimen Pakatan Rakyat.

Sebelum itu, Annuar beberapa kali bangun mencelah dan beliau kelihatan seperti tidak berpuas hati dengan Anwar Ibrahim.-harakahdaily

 Dua menteri miliki ijazah palsu...

DAP hari ini mendakwa dua menteri kabinet memiliki sijil ijazah yang palsu.

MP Serdang Ong Kian Ming mendakwa, kedua-dua menteri tersebut memperolehi ijazah dari "kilang ijazah" di Preston dan Wyoming, Amerika Syarikat.

"Adakah ini transformasi apabila ada dua menteri yang mempunyai tanggungjawab yang besar terhadap  pembangunan modal insan dalam negara kita?

"Ia sangat mengecewakan kerana pada hari pertama Parlimen bersidang, rakyat Malaysia perlu menerima hakikat yang Perdana Menteri Datuk Seri Najib Razak telah melantik dua menteri yang memiliki ijazah palsu daripada institusi yang menjadi pengilang ijazah," katanya dalam sidang media di Dewan Rakyat hari ini.

Ong mendakwa, seorang dari menteri tersebut memiliki ijazah bacelor dari Chartered Institute of Business Administration (Ireland), Teoranta dan ijazah sarjana dalam pentadbiran perniagaan dari Preston University.

Katanya, beliau tidak menemui apa-apa laman web yang dimiliki Chartered Institute of Business Administration Ireland.

Preston Universiti pula sememangnya dikenali sebagai universiti yang palsu, dakwanya.

Seorang lagi menteri berkenaan, dakwanya memiliki ijazah kedoktoran dalam pentadbiran perniagaan dari Golden State University di Wyoming.

Menteri tersebut juga memiliki ijazah sarjana dalam pentadbiran perniagaan dari Universiti Terbuka Komanwel yang berpusat di kepulauan Virgin, dalam jajahan Britain, dakwanya. 

"Kedua-dua institusi ini disenaraikan sebagai universiti yang tidak tidak bertauliah dan ijazah yang tidah sah oleh kerajaan negeri Oregon dan Maine," katanya.

Sehubungan itu, Ong berkata, kedua-dua menteri tersebut perlu meletakkan jawatan bagi melindungi integriti dan kredibiliti kabinet yang diketuai oleh Najib.-malaysiakini

Two ministers have 'fake' degrees...

Two cabinet ministers have “fake” degrees, DAP’s Serdang MP Ong Kian Ming has alleged.

Speaking to reporters during a press conference outside the Dewan Rakyat today, Ong said that the two ministers have degrees from degree mill universities in Preston and Wyoming, both in the United States.

“Therefore, to entrust two ministers with serious responsibilities on human capital development is most ironic for a prime minister who has made transformation as his clarion call,” he said.

Ong (right) said that it is "disappointing" that Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak has appointed two Ministers with two "dodgy" degrees each from institutions which are alleged "degree mills".

According to Ong, one minister holds a Bachelor's Degree from Chartered Institute of Business Administration (Ireland), Teoranta and a Masters in Business Administration in Preston University.

"Not only could we not find any website belonging to Chartered Institute of Business Administration (Ireland), Preston University is a well-known bogus university," he claimed.

The other minister, he claimed, holds a Doctor in Business Administration from the Golden State University in Wyoming.

'Unauthorised schools, invalid degrees'

Ong claimed that second minister had obtained his Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from the Commonwealth Open University which is based in the British Virgin Islands.

"Both of these institutions are listed down as unauthorised schools and invalid degrees by the state governments of Oregon and Maine in the United States," he said.

Ong said that the both these ministers must immediately be asked to resign by Najib in order to protect the "integrity and credibility" of Najib's cabinet.

In an immediate reaction, Human Resources Minister Richard Riot (left) - one of those named by Ong as being a minister with a 'fake' degree - has refuted the allegations by the DAP parliamentarian.

"As a responsible minister, I am duty bound to explain. I strongly rebut this statement," he said at a press conference in the parliament lobby.

He added that he had acquired his degrees from the University of Hertfordshire, London, and not where Ong had claimed.

Viewing the allegation as "serious" and "defamatory", Richard noted that as the statement was made outside of Dewan Rakyat, he is instructing his lawyers to look into the matter.

Asked if he is going to sue Ong, Richard only said that he is "leaving it to my lawyers".

By-election critical for Pakatan, says Anwar...

The looming by-election for the Kuala Besut state seat in Terengganu is "critical" for Pakatan Rakyat, Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim said today.

Speaking to reporters outside the Dewan Rakyat today, Anwar, however, noted the challenge that would await Pakatan in order to wrestle the state seat away from Umno, as the late Umno assemblyperson, Dr A Rahman Mokhtar (left), had won the seat in the May 5 general election with a 2,434-vote majority against PAS' Napisah Ismail.

"Umno has a pretty impressive majority for the seat, but I'm sure PAS and PKR will work together to challenge for this seat," he said.

When asked whether it was too soon to talk about a by-election given that Rahman had only passed away early this morning, Anwar agreed but at the same time stressed that the seat was up for grabs.

"Yes, yes, it is (too soon). I wish my condolences and hope his soul is blessed. But there is a seat that is empty.

"I'm sure PAS will have a meeting soon to decide about this matter," he added.

Should Pakatan Rakyat win this state seat, it could lead to a hung state assembly in Terrengganu.

Currently, BN has 17 seats to Pakatan's 15 in the state.-malaysiakini

Sebuah syarikat S'pore yg. tak berpengalaman bekal dakwat kekal setelah dapat pinjaman 7 juta dari...

Pakatan Rakyat mengancam untuk mendedahkan nama syarikat yang membekalkan dakwat kekal kepada Suruhanjaya Pilihan Raya sekiranya suruhanjaya itu masih enggan berbuat demikian.

“Kita sudah siasat, kita tahu. Jangan tunggu terlalu lama atau kami akan dedahkan,” kata Rafizi Ramli (PKR-Pandan) yang mencelah sewaktu ucapan ketua pembangkang Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim di Dewan Rakyat hari ini.

Beliau mendakwa siasatannya menunjukkan bahawa kontrak untuk membekalkan dakwat kekal tersebut dianugerahkan kepada satu syarikat Singapura.

Rafizi seterusnya mendakwa bahawa syarikat berkenaan tidak mempunyai pengalaman dan dana – malah terpaksa membuat pinjaman dengan seorang ahli perniagaan untuk mendapatkan modal RM7 juta bagi transaksi tersebut.

MP Pandan tersebut berkata demikian susulan celahan oleh Anthony Loke (DAP-Seremban) yang membangkitkan mengenai satu jawapan menteri bahawa suruhanjaya itu tidak boleh menamakan pembekal dakwat berkenaan atas sebab keselamatan.-malaysiakini

Menteri: Dakwat kekal guna pewarna makanan...

Menteri di Jabatan Perdana Menteri Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim hari ini menjelaskan bahawa bahan kimia yang digunakan dalam dakwat kekal pada Pilihan Raya Umum ke-13 digantikan dengan bahan pewarna makanan.

"Tiada kandungan bahan-bahan kimia digunakan dalam dakwat tersebut sebaliknya ianya digantikan dengan penggunaan bahan-bahan pewarna makanan yang diluluskan. 

"Tarikh luput dakwat kekal adalah dalam tempoh empat bulan dari tarikh ianya dikilangkan.

Shahidan juga berkata tahap ketahanan dakwat berkenaan berbeza mengikut individu.

Ia bergantung kepada usaha yang dilakukan oleh setiap individu untuk menghilangkan dakwat kekal berkenaan, katanya.

Beliau juga menyatakan bahawa Kementerian Kewangan meluluskan sebanyak RM400 juta bagi kos perbelanjaan pilihan raya yang lalu.

Lim kemudiannya menjadikan jawapan bertulis itu sebagai satu bahan jenaka apabila menulis di Twitter bahawa dakwat kekal kini "boleh dimakan".

Tulisan berkenaan mendapat perhatian pengguna Twitter lain yang turut berjenaka dan bertanya kepadanya sama ada dakwat itu "sedap hingga menjilat jari."

Sementara itu, dalam satu jawapan berasingan, Shahidan berkata kos penggunaan dakwat kekal itu adalah sebanyak RM6.9 juta.

Kos itu meliputi kerja-kerja mereka bentuk botol dakwat khas, berus, kotak botol dan membuat bancuhan khas dakwat memandangkan ia tiada di pasaran, katanya dalam jawapan bertulis kepada MP DAP Seremban, Anthony Loke.

"Kos tambahan lain meliputi kos pengangkutan, pembungkusan serta penyimpanan dakwat kekal adalah sebanyak RM200,000 menjadikan jumlah kos keseluruhan sebanyak RM7,100,000.

"Pada masa ini SPR tidak bercadang memaklumkan maklumat pembekal dakwat kekal kepada umum atas sebab keselamatan," katanya.-malaysiakini

Name ink supplier or we will, says Rafizi...

Pakatan Rakyat has threatened to reveal the name of the company that supplied the 'indelible' ink to Election Commission if the commission continues to refuse to do so.

"We have already investigated, we know. Don't wait too long or we will expose," interjected Rafizi Ramli (PKR-Pandan) in the Dewan Rakyat during Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim's turn at debating the royal address today.
He alleged that his investigations have shown that the contract to supply the 'indelible' ink to the EC was given to a company owned by a Singaporean.

Rafizi (right) further claimed that the company which had neither experience nor funding, had to resort to taking a loan from a Kampung Baru businessman, to get the RM7 million capital needed for the transaction.

The Pandan MP was responding to an earlier interjection from Anthony Loke (DAP-Seremban) who mentioned that in a written answer to him from the Minister in The Prime Minister's Department Shahidan Kassim, the commission cannot reveal the name of the 'indelible' ink supplier because of security reasons.

Adding fire to the argument, Anwar then remarked that the EC should do well to heed the reminder as Rafizi was the one they had used to highlight the “cow” issue, which involved the toppling of a federal minister.

The same hunting license, joked Anwar, is already given to Rafizi on the EC indelible ink contract matter.-malaysiakini

 

No chemicals, only food colouring in EC's ink...

The Election Commission (EC) has said that there were "no chemicals" in its indelible ink that was used for the 13th general election.

In a parliamentary written answer to Lim Lip Eng (DAP-Segambut) today, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Shahidan Kassim said that all the chemicals in the ink were replaced by food colouring.

"No chemicals were used in the ink, they were instead replaced with food colouring ingredients which were approved," the short answer read to a question as to why the ink did not last seven days as initially promised.

"The durability of the ink is subject to the efforts taken to wipe off the ink by individuals," the reply said.

It also said that a test conducted on EC officials and media personnel on May 2 "proved" that the ink worked the way it was supposed to.

The EC has previously said that silver nitrate was used in the ink and was supposed to last seven days.

However, many individuals have complained of being able to easily wash off the indelible ink within hours of being applied.

Lim later laughed at the parliamentary reply in his Twitter account, noting that the indelible ink was now "edible" based on the reply.

One netizen who was bemused by the reply later tweeted in response, cheekily asking if the ink was "finger licking good".

Supplier’s identity secret for ‘security reasons’

Meanwhile in a separate reply to another DAP MP, Anthony Loke (DAP - Rasah), Shahidan (below) stated that the cost for the use of indelible ink during the May 5 polls was RM6.9million.

Reading out the answer prepared by the EC, the minister said the amount also covered the costs for designing special ink bottles, the brushes, the boxes as well as the cost for the unique ink mixture, seeing as how it was not available in the market.

“Other additional costs consist of transport cost, packaging and storage, about RM200,000, making the total costs RM7.1million,” Shahidan said in the written reply.

He added that at this time, there is no plan to reveal information on the indelible ink supplier to the public for “security reasons”.-malaysiakini

daniel - What security reasons are the cheating EC and the stupid minister talking about? The general elections are over so who or what are they protecting? The MACC should make this RM7million a high priority investigation noting that TBH was interrogated overnight and died over a measly RM2k accusation. Or the suppliers are being protected because the EC is planning to buy some more edible ink from them?

ADUN UMNO/BN Kuala Besut meninggal dunia...

Seorang anggota Exco kerajaan negeri Terengganu Dr A Rahman Mokhtar meninggal dunia hari ini, tujuh hari selepas dimasukkan ke unit rawatan rapi di Hospital Sultanah Nur Zahirah.

Laporan Bernama menyebut, A Rahman, 55, meninggal dunia pada jan 10.18 pagi ini akibat kanser paru-paru di hospital berkenaan di Kuala Terengganu.

Laporan itu memetik kenyataan Pengarah Kesihatan Terengganu Datuk Dr Anwa Sulaiman yang mengesahkan perkara itu.

"Pagi ini keadaannya semakin kritikal sehingga terpaksa menggunakan alat bantuan pernafasan dan disahkan meninggal pukul 10.18 pagi ini di HSNZ," katanya Anwa seperti dipetik Bernama.

Pengerusi Jawatankuasa Pembangunan Kesihatan, Wanita dan Masyarakat negeri Terengganu itu meninggalkan seorang balu dan empat anak.

Jenazah dijangka  dikebumikan di tanah perkuburan Islam Masjid Teluk Bayu Kuala Besut selepas solat Zohor hari ini, lapor agensi berkenaan.

Satu pilihan raya kecil dijangka akan diadakan ekoran kematian ADUN Kuala Besut itu, yang meninggal dunia hanya beberapa minggu selepas pilihan raya umum 5 Mei.

Dalam pilihan raya tersebut, A Rahman menewaskan calon PAS Napisah Ismail dengan majoriti 2,434 undi.

Kawasan berkenaan terdiri daripada lebih 17,000 pengundi, yang mana 99 peratus daripadanya terdiri dari pengundi Melayu.

Terengganu rep dies, first by-election expected...

Kuala Besut assemblyperson Dr A Rahman Mokhtar passed away today at the Critical Care Unit (CCU) of Hospital Sultanah Nur Zahirah in Kuala Terengganu.

A Rahman, from Umno, is also state Terengganu exco member for Health, Family and Community development.

He died at about 10.18am today, after having been warded at the hospital’s CCU for the past seven days.

National news agency Bernama reported today that the 55-year-old, who hails from Pulau Perhentian and who was yesterday reported to be in a stable condition, died from lung cancer. 

His body will be buried at the Teluk Bayu mosque in Kuala Besut, this afternoon.
He leaves behind a wife and four children.

A Rahman was first elected in 2008 where he defeated Nik Muhammad Zawawi Salleh of PAS by 2,631 votes.

On May 5, he won against another PAS candidate - Napisah Ismail - with a majority of 2,434 votes.

With his death, less than two months after the conclusion of the 13th general election on May 5, the country is expected to face its first by-election.

His remains will be taken to Masjid Teluk Bayu in Kuala Besut for prayers, and where he will later be laid to rest.

The constituency has a total of 17,679 votes for the May 5 general election.

Kuala Besut is seen as an Umno stronghold, but in 1999, Nik Muhammad Zawawi had managed to win the constituency for PAS when it took over as the state government.

The BN-led state government, under Menteri Besar Ahmad Said, is in a precarious position as the state has 32 state seats, of which 17 was won by BN and 15 by PAS.

Hence, with A Rahman's passing, BN is left with a simple majority of one seat following the vacancy.

If Pakatan wins, it would lead to a hung state legislative assembly.

Elections would have to be called within 60 days after the Terengganu speaker has informed the Election Commission over the vacancy.

According to Bernama, EC will hold a special meeting to set the by-election date for the seat after receiving an official acknowledgement on its vacancy.

EC deputy chairperson Wan Ahmad Wan Omar said at the moment EC had not received any official letter from the state assembly speaker and was expecting to receive it shortly.

"After that, the EC will issue an official statement when the special meeting will be held," he told the news agency today.-malaysiakini

Trial judge did not address common intention for Sirul and Azilah to murderAltantuya...

The Court of Appeal has noted that the Shah Alam High Court judge presiding over the Altantuya Shaariibuu murder trial did not address the issue of common intention for the two Special Action Unit personnel to murder her.

The matter was raised by judge Linton Albert today, who pointed out to deputy solicitor-general III Tun Abdul Majid Tun Hamzah that Chief Inspector Azilah Hadri and Corporal Sirul Azhar Umar were jointly charged under Section 34 of the Penal Code with murdering Altantuya.

Justice Linton pointed out near the closing of today’s proceedings that High Court judge Mohd Zaki Md Yassin did not address this issue at all.

“There is nothing in (the High Court judgment) which addresses this issue,” he said.

Justice Md Apandi Ali, who heads the three-member bench, concurred and said in joint trial cases, common intention has to be one of the focal points or elements proved.

“There is nothing in the judgment where the judge mentioned or made reference to Section 34 or said common intention,” Justice Apandi said.

After submitting vigorously, Tun Abdul Majid (right) agreed with the two judges that the issue was not addressed by the trial judge, and admitted this issue could be one point of the non-direction in the judgment.

However, the deputy solicitor-general III defended the judgment in finding Azilah and Sirul guilty.

This led to Justice Apandi to say, "Man can only plan, God will decide".

"Maybe the non-direction is a petunjuk tuhan (divine intervention). You may have a strong case, but why had the judge made a non-direction?"

Lawyers for Azilah and Sirul have been raising issues of non-direction by the judge in delivering the guilty verdict against their clients, arguing that this constituted a mistrial.

Justice Mohd Zaki in his judgment stated that motive was not an issue, for whatever the motive was, it was a matter of law that although it is relevant, it has never been essential.

Kamarul Hisham Kamaruddin, who appeared for Sirul, said there was non-direction by Justice Mohd Zaki in determining the DNA evidence performed on a blood-stained slipper found in Sirul’s car, which was said to be Altantuya's blood, and as rightly pointed out by the court, the issue of common intention.

“There were serious non-directions by the court below which did not address it,” he said.

‘Slipper of a different size’
 
Kamarul also pointed out, in reply to Tun Abdul Majid, that it was not known to whom the blood-stained slipper belonged.

“My client wears a size seven and yet the slipper purportedly with Altantuya’s blood stain is a size nine. No DNA test was done to show to whom the size nine slipper belonged,” he said.

Kamarul (right) said Sirul’s car could have been tampered with as he was in Pakistan on assignment for three days, during which he had handed over his car and house keys to Bukit Aman for safekeeping.

During the three days while Sirul was in Pakistan, Kamarul said, anything could have happened including fabrication by the police in  planting evidence there.

Kamarul said his client’s slipper was placed in the boot of the car and not under the front passenger seat, and hence there was a mystery as to whom the blood-stained slipper belonged.

During the trial in the High Court, Sirul gave an unsworn testimony from the dock that he was made a scapegoat in this caper to protect the plans of others and claimed the real persons responsible were not in court that day to answer.

Sirul also testified that he had been asked by police photographers to pose showing his jacket placed in his apartment, where Altantuya’s jewellery was also found.

When the Court of Appeal judges asked Tun Majid, he acknowledged that the prosecution did not ascertain to whom the slipper belonged.

However, the deputy solicitor-general III said there was evidence to show that the deceased (Altantuya) was also brought into Sirul’s car.

“Probably she had been hurt prior to this and the slipper was there and got stained by the blood,” said Tun Majid.

Not satisfied with the reply, Justice Linton said there had been a lot of speculation, and the court is being asked to send the two to the gallows on mere speculation.

The appeal was fixed for three days but the submissions came to a close today, the second day.

Justice Apandi said they would need time to go through the volumes of evidence and case laws cited and vacated tomorrow’s hearing.

“We will certainly not be delivering our judgment tomorrow and will prepare written grounds for a date to be fixed,” he said.-malaysiakini
