Anwar Ibrahim mengakui hari ini kehadiran besar dalam ceramah Pakatan Rakyat (PR) tidak semestinya menjamin undi.

Ketua umum PKR itu walau bagaimanapun mengatakan angka besar itu dapat mencerminkan “kadar semangat” yang boleh diambil sebagai tanda positif untuk pakatan pembangkang persekutuan menjelang pilihan raya 5 Mei.

“Tidak semestinya, kamu benar,” kata Anwar apabila ditanya apakah beliau merasakan kehadiran besar dalam ceramah PR boleh menjadi indikasi meningkatnya sokongan terhadap gabungan itu.

“Akan tetapi, saiz hadirin adalah jelas membanggakan. Ia akan mencerminkan kadar semangat kerana kita tidak menyediakan bas, tidak menyediakan makanan percuma, tidak menyediakan peruntukan RM20 seperti yang lain lakukan,” katanya.

Perhimpunan PR di kawasan-kawasan di mana terdapat pertempuran besar seringkali dihadiri oleh ribuan orang terutamanya yang dihadiri oleh pemimpin terkenal.

Contohnya ialah seperti di pusat pentadbiran negara Putrajaya pada Sabtu yang dipenuhi oleh ribuan orang apabila Mursyidul Am PAS Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat berucap dihadapan ribuan penyokong.

Kebanyakan pengundi yang terdiri daripada penjawat awam, keluarga mereka dan lain-lain yang tinggal berhampiran memenuhi ruang letak kereta di belakang Istana Keadilan di sini, jumlah kehadiran yang hanya kebiasaannya semasa karnival dan acara kerajaan.

Pertempuran Putrajaya akan menyaksikan Naib Presiden PAS Datuk Husam Musa akan berhadapan dengan Setiausaha Agung Barisan Nasional (BN) Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor penyandang yang dilihat di atas kertas mampu mempertahankan kerusi tersebut.

Laporan di bawah juga menyaksikan sambutan hangat diberikan terhadap pemimpin PR bertanding di Johor, salah satu negeri kunci bagi PR mencapai cita-cita mereka ke Putrajaya, dengan perhimpunan yang terdapat Lim Kit Siang mampu menarik ribuan hadirin.

Lim dilihat sebagai calon ‘underdog’ di Gelang Patah akan berhadapan dengan menteri besar sementara Johor Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman.

Pemerhati walaubagaimanapun berkata, saiz haidirin di ceramah pembangkang mungkin sesuatu yang belum dilihat sebelum ini, akan tetapi ia tidak menjamin undi untuk PR.- malaysian insider

Anwar says votes not guaranteed despite huge ceramah turnouts

Foreigners in police, armed forces...

The Pakatan de facto leader claims to have found documents to prove the existence of dubious voters in the police and armed forces.

Pakatan Rakyat supremo Anwar Ibrahim has claimed that certain documents were discovered showing that there were Bangladeshis, Filipinos and Indonesians in the police and armed forces. 

The documents were found near a shophouse, which the Election Commission claims is its store.

Speaking at a press conference here, Anwar said a truck carrying important documents was stopped by the EC task force in Putrajaya and moved to another location in Sungai Chua, Kajang.

He said EC claimed that the premise the truck was taken to was an EC store and it was moved there only for safe-keeping.

“We found documents in the trash and around this premise that the EC claims is their store. It surely doesn’t look like one.

“These documents show 42 voters within the police and army that are of Indonesia, Bangladesh and Phillipines nationalities. How is this even possible? We don’t have foreigners in our police and armed forces,” he added.

Anwar urged the EC to speed up investigations and take stern action against the perpetrators.

“The fraud cases within the electoral roll has to be cleared. EC must stand strong and continue to do so without taking sides as it will only lose its credibility. A lot of proof has surfaced over time. EC must answer and resolve all ambiguity as soon as possible,” he added.

Anwar also urged the police to act more professionally in handling violence during the campaign period leading up to the general election.

He said the uprise in violence is getting more serious.

“The police can’t keep blaming us for everything. They have to conduct proper investigations and tell people the truth.

“Supporters of both sides have to behave and show support to their respective parties by voting for the candidates on polling day and not disrupt the peace and harmony of the country,” he added.

 Don’t be over confident

Anwar advised Pakatan supporters to stay calm and not fall prey to provocations.
“We have to be more mature, we are still expecting the debate with caretaker prime minister Najib Tun Razak. We have till May 4, so let’s all be patient,” he said.

“We feel that the general election is a platform for debate and the contestation of ideas from both sides. The people should be given the opportunity to decide based on facts from both the caretaker government and the opposition,” he added.

On the same note, Anwar appealed to his supporters not to be over confident but to continue to work hard and throw their support behind him and Pakatan.

Asked about his forecast on the election results, he said: “We remain cautiously optimistic about the results. Our supporters must not be over confident.”

“Just because the crowd (at Pakatan ceramahs) is big, doesn’t mean we have that much support and we will win. It is very encouraging but our confidence is based mainly on our ground work,” he added.

Meanwhile, PAS deputy president Mohamad Sabu and DAP’s Anthony Loke, who were also present, disregarded the statement by a DAP leader in Johor urging locals not to vote for PAS.

“That is not DAP’s stand, we will continue to work together with Pakatan as we have always done,” said Loke.

“This will not affect us in any way, PAS will still support DAP and vice versa. We will not lose faith in each other just because of one or two black sheep,” said Mohamad Sabu.-fmt

Najib pilih tukang sembur mata Mahathir jadi calon BN...

Bayangkan apa akan jadi jika Tun Mahathir Mohamad tahu Najib Razak meletakkan individu yang pernah menyembur matanya 7 tahun lalu sebagai calon BN untuk Dewan Undangan Negeri (DUN) Guchil di Kelantan pada PRU 13 ini. 

Peristiwa itu yang terjadi pada 28 Julai 2006 diungkap semula Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim pada Ceramah Pakatan Harapan Rakyat di Keramat Wangsa malam tadi. 

Katanya, individu berkenaan adalah Datuk Nik Sapeia Nik Yusof bersama Datuk Ibrahim Ali dan dua ahli Umno BN yang lain menyembur bahan pemedih mata ke arah Mahathir di Lapangan Terbang Sultan Ismail Petra, Pengkalan Chepa.

“Siapa calon BN DUN Guchil di Kuala Krai, Kelantan? Nama dia Nik Sapeia. Dia inilah yang sembur mata Mahathir masa datang Kelantan dulu, sekarang jadi calon BN. Apa yang Najib buat ni? Kalau Mahathir tahu habislah kamu Najib.

Apakah pengalamannya? Seorang yang terkenal kerana pernah menyembur pemedih mata dekat muka Mahathir,” katanya disambut ketawa lebih 5,000 hadirin yang berhujan. 

“Mahathir pula sekarang tengah sibuk ceramah. Dia kata Anwar ini suruh orang mati, Anwar kaki jantan, Anwar kaki seleweng. Hei Mahathir, orang sembur mata awak dulu jadi calon BN, awak tahu ke tak?” kata Anwar. 

Ketua Umum KEADILAN berkata, tindakan Najib menyenaraikan calon BN yang menghina agama dan kaum lain membuktikan ketidakmampuan beliau mentadbir negara. 

Beliau berkata, penyenaraian tersebut memperlihatkan kepada rakyat betapa kredibiliti Najib sebagai pemimpin semakin terhakis dan hilang arah.

“Mahathir! Kamu ni penakut, Ibrahim Ali pun kamu takut. Ugut orang Melayu, hina orang Melayu, ugut nak bakar Bible, kemudian lantik, sokong dia sebagai calon BN (Pasir Mas), tarik balik calon yang sepatutnya bertanding.

“(Di) Shah Alam, Zulkifli Nordin, seorang lagi ‘katak’ yang hina agama lain. Lalang pun tak teruk macam dia, kata-kata kesat, tidak ada akhlak, maki hamun dalam politik, hina orang agama Hindu. Yang ini pun boleh jadi calon. 

“Sebab apa dia jadi calon BN? Yang saya tahu cuma dia pernah jadi peguam pertama dalam kes Altantuya Shaariibuu (sebelum beliau dipecat dari KEADILAN),” kata Anwar. 

Dalam pada itu, beliau sekali lagi mengulangi cabaran debat kepada Najib sebelum PRU 13. 

“Sebelum 4 Mei, saya minta Datuk Seri Najib Razak mewakili BN siap untuk berdebat dengan Anwar soal manifesto. Tak payah perbodohkan rakyat,” tegasnya.- keadilandaily

 PAS candidates with 'Babi' posters...

PAS candidate for the Kepala Batas parliamentary Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden is unfazed about posters of him being defaced with the word ‘babi’ (pig), saying it might even help him gain some sympathy votes.

For Muslims, it is haram (illegal) to eat or touch pork, and labelling them as such is deemed insulting.

However, Afnan (right), who is state PAS Youth secretary, did not express any anger when he found out about the matter.

“This kind of politics is outdated. It may even increase my popularity. These are tactics people can no longer accept,’ said Afnan when met after a ceramah by PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang in Penaga last night.

The large poster of Afnan with the derogatory word splashed in red paint had been put up near the Bertam exit toll booth.

His comrade, Penaga candidate Roshidi Hussein, said such acts by certain quarters were indeed counter-productive.

“A man stopped me while I was in my car and told me how mad he was at the poster defacement. 

He told me he used to be an Umno man but now wants to shows his dissatisfaction by voting for PAS,” said the Penang PAS deputy commissioner.

“In fact it had been a bonus for us. We will be able to get some sympathy votes out of this.”
Roshidi, a lawyer by profession, will be contesting against Umno’s Mohd Zain Ahmad, who replaces outgoing state opposition leader Azhar Ibrahim.

Both candidates were rather satisfied with their party’s campaining thus far and said they stood a better chance at winning their seats from their Umno opponents.

Afnan is facing a tough battle in Kepala Batas against BN Youth information chief Reezal Merican Naina Merican (right), who replaces incumbent and former prime minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.

Abdullah, or better known as Pak Lah, has been campaigning alongside Reezal but it is uncertain how the Kepala Batas electorate would respond to an outsider as they have thrown their support behind  the former since 1978.

Umno’s infighting may influence polls outcome in several constituencies due to preferred candidates being dropped from the BN list like Tasek Gelugor, Sungai Dua and Seberang Jaya may have an influence on the outcome of the election in the Malay heartland on polling day, May 5.

“The Kepala Batas voters have always voted for a religious person,” said Afnan, without running down his opponent, but adding that based on their voting pattern, he stands a good chance at achieving victory.

“In 2008, there were areas we were not able to enter to campaign where the sentiment towards Umno was very strong, and sometimes we were scolded or asked to leave,” he said.

“But now, the situation has changed. Even though they may still express or indicate support for Umno, we are welcomed,” he added.

Roshidi explained that the situation may have changed due to the increase in young voters in the constituency.

There are 51,743 votes in Kepala Batas and 43 percent of that are youths below 40 years, with 76 percent Malays, Chinese 19 percent and Indians 4 percent.

“We know the tide is changing because many have approached us to be our election workers and polling agents. BN pay their workers and we do not. So we know their support for us is genuine.”

On Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak’s visit to Penaga on Tuesday, Roshidi said, “We welcomed him. He would help us win some support.”

Najib became prime minister in 2009, taking over from Abdullah who had to step down when the BN lost its two-thirds majority in Parliament in 2008.-malaysiakini

Kalu Husam balik Kelantan, Mahathir juga patut balik Kerla...

Dr Mahathir Mohamad berkata calon PAS Putrajaya Datuk Husam Musa, yang juga anggota exco dalam kerajaan sementara PAS di Kelantan, sepatutnya menyelesaikan masalah negeri berkenaan sebelum menjadi calon di pusat pentadbiran negara itu.

"Sehingga itu, duduk diam-diam di Kelantan. Itu tempat anda. Perbaiki tempat anda dan contohi presint Putrajaha. Bina pejabat yang baik dan rumah untuk orang tempatan yang bekerja dalam sektor awam,” kata Mahathir.

Selepas itu, barulah Husam boleh memohon untuk bekerja di Putrajaya dan naik pangkat sedikit demi sedikit, kata Mahathir lagi dalam satu ceramah ketika berkempen untuk penyandang kerusi tersebut Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor. 

Tengku Adnan memenangi kerusi tersebut dengan majoriti 2,734 undi dalam pilihan raya umum 2008.

Pada masa itu, Putrajaya menjadi kawasan parlimen paling kecil dengan hanya 6,608 voters. Ia amat ketara berbanding kawasan Kapar yang merupakan kawasan parlimen terbesar dengan 144,369 pengundi. Pengundi Putrajaya kini berjumlah 15, 798 orang, meningkat kepada hampir 140 peratus yang kebanyakannya merupakan penjawat awam.

 

(Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad says PAS Putrajaya candidate Husam Musa should first fix problems in Kelantan, where he is a caretaker exco member, before making his bid to be the federal administrative capital's elected representative.

"Until then, sit quietly in Kelantan. That is your place. Go fix your place and imitate Putrajaya's precincts. Build good offices and homes for the locals who work in the civil service."After you (Husam, left) prove your worth, then ask for the chance to work in Putrajaya, though not as prime minister. Bit by bit, you may earn your promotion," Mahathir said in Putrajaya last night at a campaign ceramah for BN's incumbent Putrajaya MP Tengku Adnan Mansor.

Tengku Adnan won Putrajaya with a 2,734-vote majority in the 2008 general election.

Altantuya billboard removed as 'she is not contesting'...

BN chairperson Najib Abdul Razak could have been looking at the smiling face of murdered Mongolian translator Altantuya Shaariibuu - if such billboards hadn't been removed before his arrival in Kuching to campaign for BN candidates.

The billboards, erected by DAP near the airport and several locations in Kuching, were meant to welcome Najib, said Chong Chieng Jen, Sarawak DAP secretary.

Najib went to Sarawak on Friday on his campaign drive to drum up support for BN candidates and came back yesterday.

Chong said the Election Commission and the Kuching South City Hall sent their officers to take down the billboards with Altantuya's smiling face that had been put up at Pending, Pandungan, Stutong and Chong Lin Park.

An officer from city council explained that DAP could not put up such billboards since Altantuya was not in the election.

This is despite the fact that there are faces of children appearing in other election campaign billboards that have been put up.

Not happy with the explanation, Chong said the party would hold a demonstration outside the Kuching South City Hall.
Najib visited a number of constituencies, including Saratok, Lubok Antu, Kuching and Sibu, yesterday in his drive to boost support for BN candidates in the state.

Sarawak DAP has uploaded a video clip of a billboard being removed, which has seen 4,400 shares within 24 hours.

"Why is the Election Commission so afraid of Altantuya when Najib is in Kuching? The billboard was removed without the 24 hours' notice given, as stated under its by-laws," Sarawak DAP said in a statement.

"Do you know why EC is removing this Altantuya billboard in such a hurry? Because Najib is going to pass by this road later," it said.-malaysiakini

Didn't Najib praise Umcedel before...

BN chairperson Najib Abdul Razak had praised Universiti Malaya Centre for Democracy and Elections (Umcedel) before when the group's survey had favoured him, pointed out PKR.

In a press release today, PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution urged Najib to show some consistency and respect the group's findings.

“Opinion polls are barometers which, when done professionally and in accordance with best practice methodology, are relevant and reliable.

“Nevertheless, we will abide by the final election results as decided by the rakyat on May 5,” he said.

Umcedel's survey had put PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim four points ahead of Najib on the question of who was more qualified to be prime minister.

Of the 1,407 people polled, 43 percent said Anwar was qualified while 39 percent said the same for Najib. In addition, the survey found that Malays were far more inclined towards having Anwar as prime minister.

Najib had dismissed the poll results, pointing out that BN's internal survey showed that he was in the lead and poised to return to power with a two-thirds majority in Parliament.

Saifuddin said that his party is heartened, humbled and pleased to hear the results, which he says shows that PKR’s campaign for change is bearing fruit, and puts an end to claims that the party does not enjoy Malay support.

“Pakatan Rakyat is making inroads into all sectors and communities, and will build on the faith people have given us by campaigning round-the-clock with all the hours and space available to us in the next seven days before election day,” he said.-malaysiakini
