A former senior police officer believes that the attorney-general chambers will not charge those linked to the National Feedlot Corporation (NFC) for criminal breach of trust (CBT), despite strong evidence to support the charge.

Former Kuala Lumpur criminal investigation department chief Mat Zain Ibrahim, when contacted, said that based on documents related to NFC's condominium purchases and documents pointing to NFC funds being used to fund trips, he believes that there were elements of CBT.

However, based on his experience in investigating high profile individuals in the past, Mat Zain believes that the CBT charge would not be slapped on NFC's bosses because they are the family of Women, Family and Community Development Minister Shahrizat Abdul Jalil.

"If the attorney-general were to charge Shahrizat's family based on police recommendations, then he may also have to charge (former MAS chairperson) Tajudin Ramli, according to police recommendations.

"Then, the attorney-general may have to follow up by charging (former Malacca chief minister) Abdul Rahim Thamby Chik and (former International Trade and Industry Minister) Rafidah Aziz.

  Only one ingredient needed

In 1994, Mat Zain was the investigation officer that was tasked with probing Tajudin. He was also involved in the investigations on Abdul Rahim and Rafidah.

Mat Zain explained that in his three examples, the police or Anti-Corruption Agency, as it was then known, had made recommendations that they be charged for various offences.

He said this when asked to comment on Bukit Aman commercial crime investigation department director Syed Ismail Syed Azizan's recommendation that NFC chairperson Mohd Salleh Ismail be charged with CBT.

Mat Zain, who also read law, said three main elements should be cited  in a CBT case namely dishonest misappropriation, converts to his own the property, or dishonestly uses or disposes the property in violation of any direction of the law.

“The prosecution is only required to fulfill one of the above ingredients - not all three, but one,” he stressed.
 

Companies don't perform umrah, people do

Explaining further, Mat Zain said the purchase of a condo using the NFC funds, and registering the condo in their own names is as good as transferring cash into personal accounts.

“If this is not converting to ones’s own use, what is?” he asked.

“Another example are the allegations against Mohamad Salleh and his son Wan Shahinur that they performed the umrah in 2010 using company funds amounting to some RM31,000 or so.

"If this can be proven than no need to argue. It’s 100 CBT. Companies are not required to perform umrah, only individuals are," he said.

 
Last November, PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution revealed that NFC funds were used for Mohamad Salleh and his son Wan Shahinur Izran for them toperform the umrah .

Mat Zain was the investigation officer in the Rahim and Rafidah cases.

In a related development, attorney-general chambers head of prosecution Tun Abdul Majib Tun Hamzah refused comment when asked respond to Syed Ismail's statement.

He said his department have yet to receive investigation papers from the police.

Yesterday, NFC in a statement said it was shocked with Syed Ismail for going public on the matter and accused him of trying to pre-empt the attorney-general's decision over the matter. - malaysiakini

Keluarga Sharizat tak mungkin didakwa...

Seorang pegawai kanan polis percaya bahawa Jabatan Peguam Negara tidak akan dakwa mereka yang ada kaitan dengan NFC atas pertuduhan pecah amanah ,walaupun terdapat bukti kukuh bagi menyokong pendakwaan tersebut.
 

Bekas ketua Jabatan Siasatan Jenayah Komersial,Kuala Lumpur, Mat Zain Ibrahim,bila dihubungi berkata bahawa berdasarkan dokumen2 berkaitan pembelian kondo oleh NFC dan dokumen2 itu juga menunjukkan dana NFC diguna untuk lawatan2,semuanya ini menurutnya adalah elemen2 CBT(jenayah pecah amanah).

Walau bagaimanapun berdasarkan daripada pengalaman2nya dalam menjalankan siasatan ke atas individu2 berprofail tinggi pada masa dulu, Mat Zain percaya bahawa dakwaan CBT tidak akan dikenakan ke atas bos2 NFC,kerana mereka adalah keluarga Menteri Wanita, Keluarga dan Pembangunan Masyarakat Sharizat Abdul Jalil.

"Sekiranya Peguam Negara mendakwa keluarga Sharizat berdasarkan kepada cadangkan polis,maka Penguam Negara juga terpaksa dakwa Tajudin Ramli(bekas Pengerusi MAS),mengikut cadangan polis.

"Seterusnya,Peguam Negara terpaksa dakwa Abdul Rahim Thamby Chik(bekas KM Melaka) dan Rafidah Aziz(Menteri Perdagangan Antarabangsa dan Industri).

 Pada 1994,Mat Zain adalah pegawai penyiasat yang ditugaskan menyiasat Tajudin. Beliau juga terlibat dalam penyiasatan terhadap Abdul Rahim Thamby Chik dan Rafidah Aziz.

Mat Zain menjelaskan bahawa dalam ketiga-tiga contoh tersebut,polis dan ACA(Badan Pencegah Rasuah) telah mengemukkan cadangan supaya mereka itu di dakwa atas beberapa kesalahan jenayah.

Beliau berkata demikian bila disuruh mengulas kenyataan Pengarah Jabatan Siasatan Jenayah Komersial Bukit Aman Datuk Syed Ismail Syed Azizan yang telah mengesyorkan Pengerusi NFC Mohd.Salleh Ismail didakwa atas CBT.

Mat Zain,juga seorang peguam, berkata ada tiga elemen utama yang perlu disebut dalam kes CBT, iaitu salahguna cara tak jujur,tukar ke atas nama sendiri harta2 yang dibeli dan menyalahgunakan atau menjual harta tersebut yang menyalahi undang2.
 

"Pihak pendakwa hanya perlu memenuhi mana2 satu daripada syarat di atas - tidak mestinya ketiga2,hanya satu," tegasnya.

Seterusnya, mengikut Mat Zain,pembelian kondo menggunakan dana NFC dan mendaftarkan kondo atas nama mereka adalah ibarat memindakan wang tunai ke dalam akaun peribadi.

"Kalau ini bukan pemindahan kepada milik individu,apakah jadah namanya?"
 

"Satu contoh lagi adalah tuduhan terhadap Mohd. Salleh dan anaknya Wan Shahinur, bahawa mereka telah mengerjakan umrah pada 2010 menggunakan dana NFC berjumlah RM31,000 atau lebih.

"Sekira ini boleh dibuktikan maka tak perlu dipanjang2kan lagi. Ia adalah 100% CBT. Syarikat tak perlu mengerjakan Umrah,hanya individu saja" katanya.
 
November lepas Setiausaha Agung PKR,Saifuddin Nasution telah mendedahkan bagawa dana NFC telah digunakan oleh Mohd Salleh dan anaknya Wan Shahinur Izran untuk mengerjakan Umrah.



 Mat Zain juga adalah pegawai penyiasat dalam kes2 Rahim Thamby Chik dan Rafidah Aziz.

Dalam perkembangan terkini, ketua pendakwa Jabatan Peguam Negara, Tun Abdul Majid Tun Hamzah enggan memberi sebarang komen bila disuruh respond kepada kenyataan Syed Ismail.

Menurut Tun Abdul Majid, Jabatannya masih belum menerima kertas siasatan daripada polis.
 
NFC menerusi satu kenyataan semalam melahirkan rasa terkejut dengan kenyataan Syed Ismail dan menyifatkan kenyataan itu sebagai terlalu awal sedangkan siasatan masih dijalankan.

Nurul: Saya hampir dapat mata lebam...

Naib Presiden PKR Nurul Izzah Anwar berkata, jika tidak ada campurtangan penyokong di ceramah di Gambang, Pahang semalam, beliau pasti sudah mendapat mata lebam seperti bapanya Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim sebelum ini.

Katanya, serangan terhadapnya oleh lelaki dalam ceramah Pakatan Rakyat di Felda Lepar Hilir I pada malam itu hampir-hampir mengenainya

Menurutnya lagi, penyerang yang memakai baju merah perlahan-lahan memasuki tempat ceramah di sebuah kedai kopi sebelum melancarkan serangan.
 
Bercakap kepada pemberita selepas membuat laporan polis di Petaling Jaya hari ini, Nurul Izzah berkata sekiranya tiada penyokong yang menahannya, beliau pasti menerima nasib seperti Anwar yang dipukul menjelang perbicaraan kes liwat pertamanya lebih sepuluh tahun lalu.

Nurul Izzah mendedahkan, polis tempatan berjaya mengenali identiti penyerang itu sebagai Asrullah Affendi Abdullah. Bagaimanapun, maklumat lain masih belum diketahui setakat ini.
 
Nurul Izzah turut menunjukkan kepada pemberita beberapa keping gambar ketika kejadian bagi menyokong dakwaannya.

Pagi tadi, akhbar web PKR Keadilandaily melaporkan, anggota Umno setempat sengaja mengganggu ceramah Pakatan dengan menganjurkan sesi karaoke dan menghantar SMS ugutan sebelumnya.

Menurut Pengarah Komunikasi PKR Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, ketika giliran Nurul Izzah berucap, kumpulan itu mula menyerbu ke lokasi ceramah sambil melemparkan kata-kata kesat kepada anak perempuan Ketua Umum PKR itu.

Dakwanya, "budak-budak muda" itu cuba memukul Nurul Izzah sehingga beliau dan puteri Anwar itu diiringi polis keluar.

Pejabat, rumah pemimpin PKR dipecah masuk

Ketika pemimpin PKR berhimpun di Kuantan untuk temurapat atau permukiman parti itu, hujung minggu lalu di Kuantan, pejabatnya di Wangsa Maju dipecah masuk.

Mendedahkan perkara itu, hari ini, naib presiden PKR Nurul Izzah Anwar berkata kejadian disedari pagi ini apabila mereka mendapati pintu pejabat telah diumpil dan terbuka.

"Dua komputer, kamera, beberapa dokumen dan wang tunai RM750 dicuri," katanya.

Menurut Nurul Izzah, rumah penyelaras PKR Parlimen Wangsa Maju Tan Kee Kwong juga cuba dipecah-masuk tetapi gagal.

Beberapa pemimpin PKR tempatan telah membuat laporan polis berhubung kejadian berkenaan, pagi ini.

Adalah dipercayai kejadian yang disedari pagi ini berlaku di antara Jumaat lalu dan pagi tadi, ketika pemimpin PKR bermesyuarat di Kuantan bagi persiapan pilihan raya umum ke-13 akan datang.

Nurul Izzah berkata demikian pada sidang akhbarnya bagi menceritakan kejadian malam semalam apabila beliau dan Pengarah Komunikasi PKR Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad berceramah di Felda Lepar Hilir I, Gambang, Pahang.

"Semua ini kelihatan seolah-olah sesuatu yang dirancang, (cubaan serangan) ini tidak boleh dipisahkan daripada kejadian pecah masuk di pejabat Wangsa Maju dan rumah Tan," katanya.

Nurul: Dad wouldn't be the only one with a black eye

PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar today said if it was not for the intervention of supporters at a ceramah in Gambang, Pahang yesterday, she could well have suffered a black eye.

“It was inches away, you don’t want to measure, it was very unpleasant,” she said at the PKR headquarters in Petaling Jaya after lodging a report at the Tropicana police station.

According to Nurul (left in photo), the attacker, clad in a red shirt, had slowly inched into the coffee shop in Felda Lepar Hilir 1 where a PKR ceramah was being held, before launching his arm at her.

“If our supporters had not parried it, then (opposition leader) Anwar Ibrahim would not be the only one with a black eye,” she said in reference to the infamous incident where then-inspector-general of police Abdul Rahim Noor had punched her father.

Nurul Izzah revealed that local police in Gambang had identified the attacker as Asrullah Affendi Abdullah. However no further information was available.
 
She added that local PKR leaders in Gambang has also lodged a police report over the incident this morning and called on police to release their video of the incident as she had spotted a plainclothes officer recording the event that night.

‘Insults hurled at us’

The PKR vice-president, accompanied by PKR communications director Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad had arrived at the coffeeshop at around 9.30pm to find that some 30 people, wielding Umno and BN flags at another coffeeshop next door, were blasting loud music to drown out the ceramah speakers.

Nurul added that the heckling became worse when she began to speak at 10.30pm, as they inched into the ceramah and were “metres away”, hurling abuse at the participants on top of singing the Umno anthem.

“They shouted for Nik Nazmi to go back to Selangor, for me to go back to Lembah Pantai and called Anwar a sodomite, it was very demeaning.

“I tried to calm them down, I said we’re all 1 Malaysia, you know, we had to try, but...”

Nurul said that it was around this time, where she had barely been able to speak for more than three minutes, when the attacker launched himself at her.

“There were about 100 people at the ceramah and they were very patient with all the heckling, they may not necessarily be supporters but they wanted to hear what we had to say,” she said.

After the attempted attack, Nurul Izzah said they moved farther into the shop. However, the situation was too tense to continue and they were forced to leave.

“When we wanted to leave, the group attempted to block us, about four or five Felda auxiliary police had to be called in to escort us out,” she said.

‘Police also became victims’

Nurul Izzah added that before the fiasco, around 10 uniformed and plainclothes police were present as organisers had informed police of the event, and police had attempted to calm the hecklers, but to no avail.

However she commended the police effort, pointing out that even they had been abused by the group.

“When the police were negotiating with us the group shouted: ‘Why you are talking to the opposition, why are you supporting the opposition’,” she said.

Nurul added that she believe the group was made up of Umno supporters, stating: “They could sing the entire Umno song from memory and they had brought Umno and BN flags.”

The ceramah was situated within the Paya Besar parliamentary constituency helmed by Umno’s Abdul Manan Ismail.

Expressing shock, Nurul Izzah condemned the physical intimidation, adding that even if Umno wanted to hold ceramah in Pakatan Rakyat-led Selangor they were granted the avenue to do so.

“We are not interested in any drama, we just want to get on with our work,” she said.

Merely hours before this incident, a group of people who were heard chanting pro-Umno slogans had disrupted an anti-Lynas rally in Penang, and two journalists were injured.

Such incidents appears to be on the rise as PKR makes its foray into Felda areas in the face of a looming general election.

Last week, opposition leader and PKR de facto Anwar Ibrahim’s ceramah in Sembrong, Johor was met with violence after Umno supporters allegedly threw stones, pieces of wood and firecrackers, as well as kicking at his Mercedes Benz, resulting in a cracked windscreen and a dented door.

CCID says OK, but, whether AG got the balls to charge NFC directors...

The director of Bukit Aman’s Commercial Crime Investigation Department Syed Ismail Syed Azizan(left) is a brave man. Why?
 
Because he has said clearly and categorically that there is enough evidence to charge the directors of the National Feedlot Corporation (NFC) with criminal breach of trust.

I like a brave Malaysian, especially if he or she is a civil servant. I believe that it’s only when civil servants show courage and integrity that the rakyat can hope to get justice and fair play in their dealings with the government.

Syed Ismail knows that the police, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission - or any enforcement agency in the country for that matter - do not have the power to lay charges regardless of the evidence. That is the prerogative of the attorney-general. 

Despite this, Syed Ismail has been willing to tell the people there is in fact enough evidence to charge someone. This is an act of courage. It is not the action of someone with an ulterior motive, as has been suggested by the family involved in the NFC.

In my years at the Bar and in government, I often heard that “such-and-such a case was presented to the Attorney-General’s Office but no action was taken”. No one knows the actual reason for this inaction - we are told only that under the constitution, the attorney-general has absolute discretion whether or not to charge someone.

So it is possible that, in many cases, enforcement agencies such as the police have recommended prosecution but the attorney-general has refused to pursue the case.

Crown prosecution services

Our practice is entirely different from that of other Commonwealth countries, where there are crown prosecution services consisting of lawyers who act independently of the attorney-general. Their independence is based on the trust given to them that they will work in the public’s interest.

They work in close collaboration with the police, so when the police in the United Kingdom (for example) say that they have evidence, it would be unthinkable for anyone else, even the prime minister, to suggest that the attorney-general might decide differently.

On the other hand, our Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak has made remarks that cast doubt on whether the family of Shahrizat Abdul Jalil (the  Women, Family, and Community Development Minister) will ever be prosecuted. 

Najib has talked about the “absolute power” of the attorney-general, and not the police, to determine if the government will prefer a charge against Shahrizat’s family.

The past has shown that when political leaders speak like that, we know that no charge is forthcoming. It would indeed be disappointing if our “reformist” prime minister should prefer to pre-empt the attorney-general’s decision.

Najib should instead give full support and praise to the police for an investigation into a case involving at least one powerful politician. But somehow, Najib always seems to get the wrong end of the stick.

So to Syed Ismail, I don’t think you will ever become the inspector-general of police, but it may be a small comfort to know that your decision to make your investigation public sets a good precedent.

After this, we hope to hear more from the heads of investigating teams. We hope to see them declare their findings publicly. We can then see how far the prime minister will go to defend his attorney-general’s discretion.

Salahuddin mahu A-G laksanakan tanggungjawab dakwa pengarah NFCorp

Naib Presiden PAS, Salahuddin Ayub menggesa Peguam Negara mengambil tindakan sewajarnya berhubung cadangan pihak polis supaya mendakwa pengarah Pusat Fidlot Corporation (NFCorp) atas dakwaan pecah amanah dan bertindak atas fakta kes yang dikemukakan polis. 

Ahli Parlimen Kubang Kerian ini menjelaskan, pihak polis sudah menjalankan tanggungjawab dengan berkesan apabila mencadangkan perkara itu kepada peguam negara dan beliau seharusnya bertindak kerana bukti-bukti yang dikemukakan sudah jelas.

“Peguam Negara tidak mempunyai pilihan selain mendakwa mereka kerana ia adalah atas saranan pihak polis.

“Polis sudah menjalankan tanggungjawab mereka dengan sangat berkesan, dan peguam negara harus bertindak atas fakta-fakta kes,” katanya di ibu pejabat PAS di sini.

Polis telah memohon kepada Peguam Negara supaya pengarah NFCorp didakwa atas kesalahan pecah amanah selepas pemimpin pembangkang mendakwa sebahagian daripada RM250 juta pinjaman mudah kerajaan telah digunakan untuk tujuan lain.

Ketua Pengarah Jabatan Siasatan Jenayah Komersial (JSJK) Bukit Aman Datuk Syed Ismail Syed Azizan telah mengesahkan perkara itu

“Kami mencadangkan Pejabat Peguam Negara supaya semua pengarah NFCorp didakwa atas kesalahan pecah amanah,” katanya kepada The Malaysian Insider.

NFCorp, yang dimiliki oleh suami dan tiga anak Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abd Jalil, merupakan syarikat yang bertanggungjawab menguruskan skandal Pusat Fidlot Nasional (NFC).
NFCorp bagaimanapun semalam melahirkan rasa terkejut dan keliru dengan kenyataan Syed Ismail itu.

Mereka menyifatkan kenyataan itu “terlalu awal”, dan mempersoalkan motif di sebaliknya kenyataan itu dengan mendakwa Syed Ismail bertindak di luar bidang kuasanya.

“NFCorp terkejut dan keliru dengan kenyataan yang terlalu awal oleh Syed Ismail walaupun beliau mengaku siasatan masih berjalan dan masih belum lengkap.

Perdana Menteri Datuk Seri Najib Razak semalam berkata tindakan mendakwa NFCorp terpulang kepada peguam negara, dan menegaskan tidak semua penyiasatan akan berakhir dengan pendakwaan.

Salahuddin (gambar) berkata, peguam negara mempunyai kuasa mutlak di bawah Perlembagaan untuk memutuskan sekiranya kes itu mempunyai bukti yang kukuh untuk di bawa ke mahkmah.
NFC mula menjadi topik hangat setelah syarikat itu tersenarai dalam Laporan Tahunan Ketua Audit Negara 2010.

Sejak itu, PKR mula membuat pendedahan berterusan terhadap skandal NFC, termasuk tuduhan penyalahgunaan dana kerajaan jutaan ringgit untuk pembelian tanah, hartanah, dan perbelanjaan tidak berkaitan dengan projek ternakan lembu tersebut.

Sejak pendedahan tersebut dibuat, Shahrizat telah berhadapan dengan tuntutan meletak jawatan termasuk daripada barisan kepimpinan Umno sendiri. Namun beliau enggan melakukan tindakan sedemikian sebaliknya tetap bertegas projek itu tiada kaitan dengan dirinya.

Ketua Wanita Umno itu turut membuat permohonan cuti selama tiga minggu daripada perdana menteri apabila tuduhan rasuah dibongkar. Beliau telah menyambung semula tugasnya sebagai menteri.

Timbalan Perdana Menteri Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin mengumumkan Putrajaya akan melantik juru audit bebas bagi menyemak dokumen kewangan NFCorp, namun enggan mewujudkan Suruhanjaya Diraja bagi menyiasat NFC. -malaysian insider

Dakwaan CBT: NFC tidak perlu melatah, kata polis

Syarikat projek ternakan lembu Perbadanan Fidlot Kebangsaan (NFC) tidak perlu melatah dengan cadangan awal polis agar pengerusi syarikat itu didakwa dengan pertuduhan pecah amanah kerana ia hanyalah satu cadangan siasatan daripada polis untuk Jabatan Peguam Negara.

Pengarah Jabatan Siasatan Jenayah Komersial Bukit Aman, Datuk Syed Ismail Syed Azizan, berkata siasatan itu hanyalah cadangan untuk rujukan Peguam Negara bagi membuat sebarang keputusan terhadap dakwaan pecah amanah itu, sama ada untuk mengambil tindakan undang-undang atau tidak.

"Kalau mereka (NFC) tak puas hati, itu terpulang kepada dia. Kita tetap jalankan tugas kita, kalau tidak, buat apa kita siasat?" katanya ketika dihubungi di Kuala Lumpur hari ini.

Syed Azizan berkata, memang menjadi tugas polis untuk menyatakan beberapa cadangan dalam setiap kertas siasatan yang akan dihantar ke Peguam Negara.

Samseng2 UMNO cuba tumbuk Nurul Izzah...

Samseng upahan Umno terus mengganas dengan mengganggu ceramah Pakatan Rakyat, kali ini di Felda Lepar Hilir, Gambang malam semalam (26 Februari). 

Sekalipun perbuatan liar di Parlimen Sembrong minggu lalu masih segar dalam ingatan rakyat, kejadian yang sebati dengan Umno kebelakangan ini, kian berleluasa.

Kali ini, Pengarah Komunikasi KEADILAN, Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad berkata, Naib Presiden KEADILAN, Nurul Izzah Anwar nyaris menjadi mangsa.

“Budak-budak muda cuba pukul Nurul Izzah di ceramah kami di Felda Lepah Hilir. Saya dan Nurul Izzah diiringi polis keluar untuk elak samseng Umno,” katanya.

Menulis di twitter kira-kira jam 11 malam, Nik Nazmi menyifatkan keganasan samseng yang menghalang ceramah Pakatan membuktikan felda bukan lagi kubu kuat Umno BN.

Dalam reaksi awal, Nurul Izzah menyatakan syukur kerana selamat tetapi  tidak gentar dengan kejadian itu, sekalipun berdepan gelagat liar samseng berkenaan.

“Bersyukur pulang dgn selamat. Moga teman-teman di Felda Lepar Hilir juga bertahan dan bersemangat walaupun samseng-samseng Umno berlagak liar, ugut fizikal.

Mengulas kejadian itu, Ketua Angkatan Muda KEADILAN (AMK) Pusat, Shamsul Iskandar Mat Akin melabel insiden itu  sebagai budaya gangsterisme Umno.

Petang tadi, sekumpulan samseng Umno menaiki pentas acara Himpunan Hijau di Pulau Pinang dan menghambur kata-kata kesat terhadap ketua menteri, Lim Guan Eng.

Minggu lalu, kereta Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim dibaling batu dalam ceramah di parlimen Sembrong, menyebabkan cerminnya retak manakala bahagian sisi kenderaan kemek.

Ketua AMK  Johor, Mohd Nazri Ismail cedera ketika cuba menghalang samseng upahan Umno dari menghampiri Ketua Pembangkang.

Dalam kejadian itu, samseng yang kebanyakannya berkemaja-T merah dan membawa bendera Barisan Nasional (BN) turut melempar botol, kayu dan telur. - keadilandaily.

 

Nurul's ceramah in Felda disrupted bu UMNO goons...

 PKR ceramahs in Umno strongholds continue to face hostility. This time, PKR’s vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar and communications director Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad were the ones affected by the unruly welcome.

The ceramah which took place at Felda Lepar Hilir 1 in Gambang, Pahang last night was disrupted purportedly by local Umno leaders, who set up loudspeakers near the coffeeshop where Nurul Izzah and Nik Nazmi (right) were speaking.

"Several youths tried to assault Nurul Izzah at our ceramah... Nurul Izzah and I were escorted by the police out of the Felda scheme to avoid them," Nik Nazmi told Malaysiakini today.

The scheme is located under the Paya Besar parliamentary seat held by Umno’s Abdul Manan Ismail.

According to him, the group had set up loudspeakers in the vicinity of the coffeeshop where they were scheduled to speak from 9pm to midnight.  

"The local PKR leaders got a the police approval for us to speak... but before the event even began they received threatening SMSes wanting them to cancel the ceramah," said Nik Nazmi.

"I was speaking for about 20 to 30 minutes, and throughout they were blasting songs and music, trying to distract the crowd.

"At first, we thought it was a concert or something, later we found out that they had organised a karaoke session," he recounted.

started speaking, said Nik Nazmi, as several people from the group barged into the scene of the ceramah, shouting verbal abuse at her.

"We had to usher Nurul inside the coffeeshop to let the situation cool, but it got out of hand so we left the place," he said.
Nik Nazmi added that the group had also shouted vulgarities at the police for providing the PKR duo with protection.

“As we were leaving, they were still trying to rush in... we were then escorted by the police," he said.


Last week, opposition leader and PKR de facto Anwar Ibrahim’s ceramah in Sembrong, Johor was met with violence after Umno supporters allegedly threw stones, pieces of wood and firecrackers, as well as kicking at his Mercedes Benz, resulting in a cracked windscreen and a dented door.

The ceramah, organised at the PKR office at Jalan Mersing on Feb 20, was also repeatedly disrupted by youths who were shouting vulgarities at Anwar, blasting their motorcycle horns and revving their engines.

Several PKR supporters were also reported to have been injured after being attacked by youths using slingshots. Police have said they are investigating the matter.

On Feb 13, Anwar's ceramah at the Felda Ghafar Baba in Machap, Malacca was distrupted (right).

A dozen of video clips on the incident were uploaded on YouTube by pro-Umno supporters.

The clips show, among others, the supporters blasting Umno party songs with loudspeakers to drown out the opposition leader’s speech.

Himpunan Hijau di Pulau Pinang diganggu oleh jakun2 yang tak diundang...

 Semua Himpunan Hijau 2.0 yang diadakan di seluruh negara bagi membantah keputusan kerajaan membenarkan loji pemprosesan nadir bumi milik Lynas Advanced Material Plant (Lamp) beroperasi di Gebeng, Pahang berjalan lancar kecuali di Pulau Pinang.

Himpunan Hijau di Sudut Pidato, Padang Kota, Esplanade itu dicemari apabila kira-kira 50 orang, termasuk pemimpin tempatan dari Pemuda Umno dan kumpulan pendesak Melayu, PERKASA mengganggu acara yang dijalankan itu.
 
Ketika acara itu dimulakan pada jam 6 petang, kumpulan itu mula menjerit kepada orang ramai yang berhimpun secara aman itu dan memberi amaran kepada mereka bahawa isu Lynas itu bukan "isu Pulau Pinang" dengan  melaungkan slogan "Hidup Umno", "Kami mahukan kebebasan" dan "Balik Kuantan (Kembali ke Kuantan)".

Kira-kira 500 penyokong Himpunan Hijau kemudian membalas dengan laungan "Hidup Rakyat”.

Selepas 15 minit berlalu keadaan semakin tegang, namun tidak ada kelibat polis dilaporkan memantau keadaan.

Ketua Menteri Pulau Pinang Lim Guan Eng tiba kira-kira jam 6:30 petang dan berucap kepada hadirin bahawa Pakatan Rakyat berpendirian tegas bahawa tidak akan menyokong kilang penapisan nadir bumi bernilai RM700 juta yang dibina di Gebeng, dekat Kuantan itu kerana bahaya pencemaran bahan radioaktif.

Beliau juga menggesa rakyat yang hadir supaya tidak diperbodohkan dan digertak oleh kumpulan yang berkumpul berhampiran.


Wartawan dibelasah

Apabila mendengar nasihat Lim itu, kumpulan berkenaan terus mencaci Lim dan melemparkan kata-kata kesat ke atas setiausaha agung DAP itu. Para hadirin kemudian bertindak dengan mem-boo mereka.

Berikutan itu, Lim mula meninggalkan pentas dan menyertai orang ramai tetapi kumpulan itu mula mengasak para hadirin sehingga mengakibatkan berlakunya pertengkaran.

Menurut orang saksi, seorang wartawan dan seorang jurugambar sebuah akhbar berbahasa Cina cedera didakwa dipukul dengan topi keledar.

Mereka dikenal-pasti sebagai wartawan dan jurugambar akhbar Kwong Wah Jit Poh iaitu Andrew Chew, 29, dan Lee Hong Chun, 25, masing-masing cedera di bahagian badan dan kepala.
Mereka kini dirawat di Hospital Pulau Pinang (HPP).
Pihak polis akhirnya tiba pada jam 7:15 malam dan menagarahkan orang ramai supaya bersurai.

Sementara itu, menurut laporan Benama, Ketua Polis Negeri Datuk Ayub Yaakob berkata penganjur langsung tidak memaklumkan kepada polis mengenai acara itu sehingga berlaku kekecohan.

"Memang tidak memerlukan permit tetapi sepatutnya penganjur memaklumkan atau berunding dengan pihak polis berhubung perhimpunan berkenaan supaya polis dapat bersiap sedia atau menempatkan anggota di kawasan berkenaan bagi mengelak sebarang perkara tidak diingini berlaku.

"Bila berlaku kekecohan, baru penganjur maklumkannya dan mereka juga cuba menyalahkan polis kerana lambat bertindak," katanya.

Tidak seperti Pulau Pinang, perhimpunan solidariti di bandar-bandar utama tempat lain berjalan dengan lancar.

Di BUKIT MERAH, Perak kira-kira 1,000 orang berkumpul di bekas tapak penapisan Asian Rare Earth (ARE) pada jam 11 pagi. Mereka berhimpun selama 90 minit untuk menunjukkan sokongan kepada rakan-rakan di Kuantan.

Penganjur perhimpunan itu Hew Yoon Tat, ketika dihubungi, berkata beliau memberikan ucapan pada majlis itu di mana beliau mengingatkan orang ramai bahawa kerja-kerja pembersihan terhadap projek yang terbelangkai itu sekarang masih berterusan dan menimbulkan bahaya.- malaysiakini

Penang anti-Lynas rally disrupted by UMNO goons...

The Penang leg of solidarity gatherings for the Himpunan Hijau 2.0 rally in Kuantan was the sole event which saw disruptions, with two journalists hurt during a fracas that erupted at the rally.


Himpunan Hijau supporters began gathering at the Penang Esplanade were met by a hostile group, which includes local leaders from Umno Youth and Malay rights pressure group Perkasa, numbering about 50.

Several members of this group have often been spotted at anti-Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng rallies organised by Suara Anak-Anak Malaysia and Komtar Traders Association vice president Abdul Ghani Mohammed Jiman.

When the event kicked off at about 6.00pm, the hostile group began jeering Himpunan Hijau supporters and telling them that this was not a “Penang issue”.

Some shouted “Hidup Umno”, "Hidup BN", “We want freedom” and “Balik Kuantan (Go back to Kuantan)”.

Several Himpunan Hijau supporters who offered to debate with the hostile group were shouted at, pushed and told to stop their protest.

By this time, the Himpunan Hijau crowd that swelled to about 500, retorted by chanting anti-Lynas slogans, and  “Hidup rakyat (Long live the people)”.

By about 6.15pm, no police were in sight despite the intense shouting match which ensued.

Freedom to speak, not harass

Penang executive councillor and Tanjung MP Chow Kon Yeow who was first to address the crowd, saying that the freedom of speech of both pro and anti-Lynas supporters must be respected.

However, Chow said if the pro-Lynas supporters wanted to express their views, they could have organised another protest, instead of "harassing and disturbing" their opponents.

"The pro-Lynas supporters say this is not a Penang issue. But this is not a political issue, it is something that concerns all Malaysians," he said.

"And if this is not a Penang issue, then why are they shouting here?" he added.
 
Penang chief minister Lim Guan Eng arrived at the scene at about 6.30pm and addressed the Himpunan Hijau supporters, affirming Pakatan Rakyat’s stance against the Lynas rare earth refinery in Gebeng, near Kuantan, because of potential radioactive hazards.

He also urged the crowd not to be cowed by the opposing group gathered just near by.

Upon hearing this, the hostile group showered Lim with a barrage of vulgarities and popular Hokkien swear words, prompting Himpunan Hijau crowd to boo them.

 

They also continued chanting "Guan Eng penipu (liar)" and asked him to return to Malacca, the CM’s place of birth.

The hostile group also shouted at the CM to "please settle Penang problems first, before talking about issues in another country or state".

However, Lim braved all the obscenities, and told the crowd that those who supported Lynas did it for the money as the company benefitted only Umno cronies.

Journalist assaulted

Following this, Lim attempted to leave the stage and join the crowd but the hostile group started to push participants and a fracas ensued.

According to eyewitnesses, two journalists from local Chinese daily Kowng Wah Jit Poh - Adam Chew and Lee Hong Chun - were struck with motorcycle helmets. Lee, when met later, said his head was injured, and that he was hit by the pro-Lynas members while snapping shots of the group trying to stop Lim's car from leaving the field.

The police finally moved in at about 7.15pm, blaring sirens and demanding that the crowd disperse.

Unlike Penang, other solidarity rallies in major towns and cities elsewhere proceeded smoothly.

In BUKIT MERAH, Perak some 1,000 people gathered at the former Asian Rare Earth (ARE) refinery at 11am for a 90-minute rally to show support for the Kuantan counterparts.

Rally organiser Hew Yoon Tat, when contacted, said he gave a speech during the event where he reminded the public that the cleanup works for the now defunct ARE was still ongoing and thus still pose a danger.

“The government should put a blanket ban on rare earth processing factory,” he said.-malaysiakini

NFC 'shocked' with Bukit Aman's CBT claim...

The National Feedlot Corporation (NFC) today expressed shock and bewilderment at the police’s recommendations that its chairperson Mohamed Salleh Ismail be charged under criminal breach of trust (CBT).
  
“NFC is shocked and puzzled that the Bukit Aman director of commercial crimes Syed Ismail Syed Azizan had prematurely issued such a statement when he himself had admitted that the investigations are still ongoing and therefore still incomplete,” it said in a statement.

The statement prepared by the firm’s public relations department stated that the company is addressing the police claim on advice of its counsel Shafee Abdullah.

“NFC questions the prudence and motive behind such a statement as it seems to be an attempt to unfairly pre-empt the honourable attorney-general’s decision over the matter.

“Is the director of commercial crimes attempting to usurp the powers of the honourable attorney-general who in law is the sole authority under the constitution to decide if there is a crime or not for purposes of prosecution?” asked NFC further.

‘Not a criminal matter’

NFC argued that the companies where the funds were channeled to, were always meant to be its subsidiaries with its directors also sitting on the boards of the other companies.

The transfers, it argued, were part of a 2009 proposal to novate the loan agreement, and rationalise the company structure, bringing all associated companies and assets within the NFC so that the government loan will be better secured.

NFC contended that the commercial crimes investigation department “had failed to understand the dynamics of the facts and the law in the issue”.

The company argued, that according to Shafee, any breaches in its loan agreement on funds not being used for its intended purpose already has a civil remedy inbuilt in the loan agreement and therefore “not a criminal matter”.

The company contends that Shafee also added that the fact that NFC is rationalising the various associated companies shows it had no dishonest intentions.

“NFC wishes to enquire the police if, in their investigations, they had paid enough consideration to the fact that there is total lacking of the elements of dishonesty in this case, which is a primary ingredient of CBT and cheating?” said the company questioning the police further.

NFC: Truth will prevail

The company however, said that it will continue to extend its cooperation to police and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, to “ensure that the truth prevails”.

NFC’s statement were made following media reports quoting Syed Ismail stating that police investigations into the RM250 million cattle venture issue had indicated that there were elements of CBT and cheating, recommending the firm’s chairperson be charged.

The chairperson is the husband of Shahrizat Abdul Jalil, the women’s, family and community development minister.

The Bukit Aman commercial crimes investigations director said the proposal was in the investigation paper being prepared by police after it had been returned from the attorney-general's office on Tuesday to investigate several other matters.

The firm owned by Shahrizat’s family grabbed headlines after irregularities pointed out by the Auditor General’s report became follow up fodder for the opposition, who made more allegations of improper financial conduct, causing public outroar.-malaysiakini

Najib: Up to A-G to prosecute NFCorp directors

Datuk Seri Najib Razak said today it is up to the Attorney-General (A-G) to decide whether to charge National Feedlot Corporation (NFCorp) directors with criminal breach of trust (CBT), stressing that not all investigations result in prosecution. 

The prime minister said the A-G holds absolute power under the Constitution to decide if a case has sufficient evidence to be accepted in court, failing which the latter could also return the matter to the police for further investigation.

“I am saying this on the principle that assumptions cannot be made on what is going to happen (next) because it is up to the A-G ... and only he has the right to make the decision in this matter,” Najib told reporters after attending a function here today.

He added that prosecutions cannot be decided upon indiscriminately as the case must first satisfy legal provisions before it is brought to court.

“We cannot make the assumption that all investigations end with prosecution,” he said.

CCID director Datuk Syed Ismail Syed Azizan yesterday confirmed that the police would recommend that the Attorney-General’s Chambers charge NFCorp’s directors with CBT. But in a statement here today, NFCorp denied any CBT elements in its loan agreement with the government, even accusing the police of “unfairly” pre-empting the charge.

The company even sought to question the motives of Syed Ismail for recommending CBT charges against it yesterday, claiming the police had failed to understand the case’s “dynamics of the facts and the law”.

“NFCorp therefore wishes to enquire the police if, in their investigations, they had paid enough consideration to the fact that there is total lacking of the elements of dishonesty in this case, which is a primary ingredient of CBT and cheating?” the firm said in the statement.

NFCorp, which operates the national cattle-farming project, is chaired by federal minister Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil’s husband, Datuk Seri Mohamad Salleh Ismail. Their three children also hold executive posts in the company.

NFCorporation (NFCorp) melahirkan rasa terkejut dan keliru dengan kenyataan Ketua Pengarah Jabatan Siasatan Jenayah Komersial (JSJK) Bukit Aman Datuk Syed Ismail Syed Azizan semalam bahawa pengarah-pengarah syarikat itu disyorkan didakwa atas kesalahan pecah amanah.

Sambil menyifatkan kenyataan itu “terlalu awal”, NFCorp mempersoalkan motif di sebaliknya kenyataan itu mendakwa Syed Ismail bertindak di luar bidang kuasa.

Dalam satu kenyataan dikeluarkan petang ini, NFCorp berkata, oleh kerana polis sendiri mengatakan siasatan masih dijalankan, kenyataan sedemikian adalah sesuatu yang bersifat tiba-tiba.

“Kedua, nampaknya Ketua Pengarah Jenayah Komersial telah lupa bahawa syarikat-syarikat berkaitan NFCorp di mana dana disalurkan adalah anak-anak syarikat NFCorp,” kata syarikat yang diterajui keluarga  Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abd Jalil.

 

Kata kenyataan itu lagi, Syed Ismail seolah-oleh tidak memahami fakta penting dan undang-undang dalam isu NFCorp.

“NFCorp terkejut dan keliru dengan kenyataan yang terlalu awal oleh Syed Ismail walaupun beliau mengaku siasatan masih berjalan dan masih belum lengkap.

“NFCorp mempersoalkan motif di belakang kenyataan itu, dilihat satu percubaan secara tidak adil untuk mempengaruhi keputusan Peguam Negara. Adakah Ketua Pengarah Jabatan Siasatan Jenayah Komersial cuba menggunakan kuasa Peguam Negara, jika mengikut undang-undang merupakan kuasa di bawah Perlembagaan Persekutuan untuk memutuskan jika terdapat satu jenayah atau bukan untuk tujuan pendakwaan,” katanya.

Semalam polis memohon Peguam Negara supaya pengarah NFCorp didakwa atas kesalahan pecah amanah selepas pemimpin pembangkang mendakwa sebahagian daripada RM250 juta pinjaman mudah kerajaan telah digunakan untuk tujuan lain.

“Kami mencadangkan Pejabat Peguam Negara supaya semua pengarah NFCorp didakwa atas kesalahan pecah amanah,” kata Syed Ismail.

Hari ini Ketua Publisiti DAP Tony Pua menggesa Putrajaya dengan segera membekukan semua aset NFCorp sama ada di Malaysia atau luar negara.

NFCorp, yang dimiliki oleh suami dan tiga anak Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abd Jalil, merupakan syarikat yang bertanggungjawab menguruskan Pusat Fidlot Nasional (NFC).

NFC mula menjadi topik hangat setelah syarikat itu tersenarai dalam Laporan Tahunan Ketua Audit Negara 2010. Shahrizat tetap menegaskan dirinya tidak mempunyai sebarang kaitan dengan projek berenaan.

Anti-Lynas rally,Kuantan - Himpunan Hijau 2.0...

It's a sunny morning in Kuantan where a growing number of people are gathering to oppose the construction of a rare earth refinery nearby, which they fear will pose radioactive risks. The rally - dubbed Himpunan Hijau 2.0 (Green Gathering 2.0) - seeks to gather 20,000 people from all over the country at the Kuantan Municipal Council field.

Pakatan Rakyat's top leaders have also pledged to attend the event, in protest of the Lynas Advanced Materials Plant (Lamp).

In a nod to the newly passed Peaceful Assembly Act 2011, the police have sanctioned the rally, albeit at the eleventh hour, and imposed 12 conditions. Rally organisers have agreed to the conditions.
The two-hour event is suppose to kick off at 10am.

8.32am: Almost 1,000 people, mostly clad in the symbolic green, have gathered on MPK4 field and more are trickling in.Some activist from out of state are gathering at several nearby hotels. The mood is jovial at the entrance of the Megaview Hotel where Bersih 2.0 leaders are leading a crowd in singing Suara Rakyat.

National laureate A Samad Said, who is scheduled to recite a poem later, is also spotted in the crowd.

8.50am: Himpunan Hijau steering committee chairperson Wong Tack told Malaysiakini that a group is gathering at MPK1 field. At 9am, the group will depart towards MPK4. They are expected to be joined by another crowd that will march from the Kuantan market.

8.55am: The Megaview Hotel crowd being led by Bersih 2.0 leaders are marching towards MPK4 field. They are mostly clad in Himpunan Hijau 2.0 t-shirts or green coloured garbs to symbolise their environmental cause.

Some of them are holding placards and banners to protest against the Lynas plant. Yesterday, the police said they would not bar them from doing so.
 
8.58am: Festivities is already underway at the MPK4 field with activists from Jingga 13, a PKR-linked NGO, is performing a sketh mocking Pahang Menteri Besar Adnan Yaakob.

"As menteri besar how much will you offer me for your factory?," said one acter.

Another man, dressed to look like an engineer with the words "Lynas" across his back responded: "RM700million!"

"Wow! I accept! I'm going to London," replied the 'menteri besar'.

9.00am: The crowd is swelling at MPK4, estimated at 1,500 with the latest group of balloon-wielding protestors.

Police presence appears moderate, numbering at about 100, backed by two sniffer dogs. A police helicopter was seen hovering near the field.

9.10am: While it is bright and sunny at Kuantan, it is a wet and soggy experience for some 30 activists who are holding a solidarity rally under the rain in Jalan Song, KUCHING.


This is one of several solidarity rallies that are simultaneously being held in several major towns across the country.

9.13am: About 1,000 people are marching from the Kuantan wet market towards MPK4 field. This is the biggest march thus far.

This crowd is proceeding towards the field quietly but they are met by a cacophony of horn blaring and cheers by passing vehicles.

9.15am: The crowd at the MPK4 has easily grown beyond 2,000 people. It is a festive atmosphere with groups chanting slogans sporadically while others stage various performances.

9.20am: "Stop Lynas" and "Hancur (Destroy) Lynas" are popular slogans.

9.30am: Stop Lynas Coalition chairperson Andansura Rabu has arrived at MPK4, back by some 500 Badan Bertindak Anti Rare Earth Refinery (Badar) and PAS activists. With him is PAS vice-president Salahuddin Ayub.This group is chanting: "We want Lynas to close down, this is to guarantee our health"

9.40am: The crowd size is now estimated at 5,000 as more groups march in. The scorching heat is causing many to sweat profusely.

9.50am: At a solidarity gathering in Kuala Lumpur, some 200 people are gathered at Maju Junction dressed in green.

10.00am: Prayers has just ended. Social activist Hishammuddin Rais now translating the Muslim prayer into English.

"Please oh God, Allah please help us fight against the destruction of our planet, destroy the corrupt, in the name of God we hope the event today will be a success."

The event is now officially underway.Police's crowd figures via Twitter: 4,000 - 5,000 as of 9.45am.

10.05am: Over at KUALA LUMPUR, Ayam Fared recites 'Gebeng yang luka', a poem by A Samad Said for the crowd.

10.08am: Hishammuddin is emceeing the event and have urged the crowd to be seated. He estimates the crowd to be around 10,000 people. He leads the crowd in singing Suara Rakyat, before a Chinese drums performance.

10.10am: Poor sound system makes the stage hard to follow for most people. Volunteers are criss-crossing the field to advise participants to sit down.

10:12am: National laureate A Samad Said takes the stage and adds a bit of interactivity in his poem recital.

"Should we gather money now to burden our future generations?"

To this, the crowd responded with an emphatic "No!"

"Then what should we do?" to which the crowd responded: "Hancur (destroy) Lynas".


He then urged the public to fight in the struggle against Lynas in order to safeguard the environment for their grand children.


10.15pm: NGO and Pakatan Rakyat leaders are being brought on stage. Among them is Kuantan MP Fuziah Salleh, who has been Pakatan's most ardent campaigner against Lynas.By most accounts, the crowd at MPK4 is nearing 10,000.

10.17am: Other environmental groups are also using Himpunan Hijau 2.0 as a platform.

A group of activist from Bukit Koman, Raub have taken the stage to tell the crowd of their struggle against gold mining activities which uses highly poisonous cyanide.

They hope that the authorities will realise the life is more important that profit.

10.20am: DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang arrives and is greeted by the crowd.

10.30am: A check on Lynas Corporation's website reveals that it has been defaced by hackers.

The hacker who calls itself HackerXL has replaced the website with another which reads "Stop Lynas, Save Malaysia. Do not hurt my country". A fluttering Malaysian flag is seen in the background.

10.40am: Other environmental groups are addressing the audience, including an anti-incinerator group from Cameron Highlands, Pahang and a group opposing the construction of high tension electrical pylons in Kampung Baru Rawang, Selangor.

10.45am: Bad audio system means that most protestors can't hear speeches. Many make do by posing for pictures and having fun on their own.

10.50am: Anwar Ibrahim arrives and is given an ovation by the crowd.

He shows up with a black jacket which hides a Himpunan Hijau 2.0 t-shirt.


In KUALA LUMPUR, the crowd at the solidarity rally outside Maju Junction has swelled to an estimated 500 people.
10.55am: The crowd is tickled by the appearance of a BN umbrella among them. The owner of the umbrella is believed to be a local MCA member.

10.57am: Audio system is improving at MPK4, allowing more people to listen in. For those who still can't, they come up with activities of their own to cause a carnival like experience. There are small groups seen singing and giving impromptu speeches.
 

11.00am: A representative from Himpunan Hijau 2.0 takes the stage and reminds the audience that Pahang Menteri Besar Adnan Yaakob had once said he would show up at the rally.

The representative adds that the rally today showed that Malaysians can hold protests peacefully.

11.04am: Kuala Lumpur and Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall president Tan Yew Sin urge the people to show concern about Jalan Sultan in Kuala Lumpur, which is said will be destroyed by the MRT project.

“Jalan sultan belongs to every Malaysian”, said the co-chairperson of the Save Jalan Sultan committee

11.05am: Bersih 2.0 chairperson Ambiga Sreenevasan said the coalition that she leads is in solidarity with the people of Kuantan.

“Today, the yellows are standing together with the greens,” she said, referring to Bersih 2.0's signature colour.

Ambiga said that those who make decisions on the Lynas project stay very far away from the Gebeng Industrial zone, which will host the rare earth refinery. She ask the people to reject the potential lawmakers who support the Lynas project and those without integrity.

11.11am: Rally organisers read out the Himpunan Hijau 2.0 resolutions. The three resolutions are as follows:

1) Scrap the rare earth refinery project.
2) Scrap or review all projects which is to the detriment of Malaysians.
3) Ensure that all development projects are in line with the Earth Charter.

11.20am: Dark clouds are threatening to dampen the rally. Some families are seen heading for nearby restaurants for cover.

11:21am: Stanley Low, a 60-year-old mechanic he is here because he was worried for his three grandchildren, who are all under the age of three.

"I'm a Kuantanese, of course I must care about this."

Asked if he felt this would make any difference, he replied: "It will be something, if we unite we can give pressure to the government."


11.25am: Emcee Hishammuddin Rais now puts the crowd size at 15,000.
"But there is still one person missing - The Pahang MB," he tells the crowd in jest.

In KUALA LUMPUR, the number of protestors at Maju Junction are still growing, despite it being the tail-end of the rally.

11.27am: Another sextenerian, who wishes to only be known as Haji Mohamad, said he wants to see Lynas Corporation go back to Australia.

"Why do they want to dump their toxic waste here? I will probably die in five to six years but my future generation will suffer because of Lynas," he said in reference to his three grandchildren, the eldest being seven.

11.30am: Parliament opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim promises that Pakatan Rakyat will table an emergency motion to urge the government to cancel the rare earth plant project during the next parliament sitting in March. He also promised that the Lynas refinery will be no more once Pakatan takes over Putrajaya. He said that the Australian government also needs to responsible over this project.

“The Australian government and the Australian people must take heed or take concern of the expressions by the Malaysian people.

“We don't want (this project) sacrifice our culture and the safety of the children just because of few corrupted leaders,” he said in front of what organisers claim is a 15,000 strong crowd.

Anwar also stressed that Umno must not turn the struggle against the rare earth plant issue as an racial issue.

Organisers: Shut down Lynas or face fresh protest

Bolstered by a good turnout this morning, Himpunan Hijau 2.0 rally organisers have issued a 24 hour ultimatum for the federal government to shut down the Lynas Advanced Materials Plant (Lamp).

Himpunan Hijau 2.0 steering committee chairperson Wong Tack said he and his cohorts will organise a bigger rally if the fedderal government failed to comply.

“We give the government 24 hours to shut down the plant, else we will hold a even bigger demonstration,

“Bring down Lynas, or we will bring down the government, you make the decision,” he said, adding that the government needs to settle this issue before the next general elections.-malaysiakini

 

Pakatan batal Lynas jika kuasai Putrajaya

Pakatan Rakyat hari ini mengumumkan akan membatalkan pembinaan loji pemprosesan nadir bumi di Gebeng oleh syarikat Lynas Advanced Material Plant (Lamp) sebaik mengambil alih pentadbiran Kerajaan Persekutuan.

Perkara itu diumumkan Ketua Pembangkang, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim di hadapan lebih 20,000 peserta Himpunan Hijau 2.0 di Padang Padang Majlis Perbandaran Kuantan (MPK) 4, pagi ini.

"Kami dari Pakatan Rakyat hari ini mengumumkan, sebaik Pakatan Rakyat mengambil alih Putrajaya, Lynas akan dibatalkan.

"Kami juga memberi jaminan semua tindakan merosakan alam sekitar, menibdas rakyat, merosakkan rakyat...akan kami tentang," tegasnya di atas pentas disambut laungan 'lawan tetap lawan' oleh para hadirin.

Pengumuman itu juga dilihat sebagai kemuncak kepada himpunan yang dihadiri pelbagai kaum hari ini.

Sebagai menyokong kempen Anti Lynas juga, Anwar yang juga Ketua Umum PKR berkata, satu usul tergempar akan dikemukakan di Dewan Rakyat pada persidangan parlimen Mac ini.

"Pada persidangan parlimen Mac ini, kita juga akan mengemukakan usul tergempar bagi menuntut kerajaan Barisan Nasional membatalkan Lynas," katanya yang juga Ahli Parlimen Permatang Pauh.

Isu Lynas, ujarnya bukannya isu perkauman seperti yang sering didakwa Umno, tetapi adalah isu keselamatan rakyat Malaysia berbilang kaum.
