Anwar says he is victim of 'vendetta' ...................

Mr.Anwar Ibrahim said on Thursday he was the victim of a 'vendetta', after being held overnight on sodomy accusations levelled by a young male aide. Mr Anwar, who was released on bail, said he was treated like a 'major criminal' and needed medical treatment after a night in a bare cell at Kuala Lumpur police headquarters which aggravated a back injury.

'Dumped in a cell to sleep on a cold cement floor with nothing... that has exacerbated the pain,' said Mr Anwar, who was arrested on Wednesday by a team of police commandos.

'I don't deserve this - no Malaysian deserves this. Why treat me like a major criminal?' he told a press conference, adding that he was subjected to an examination which included the measuring of his genitals.

'They have seen all my private parts. Of course I refused to be photographed, it could be on YouTube very soon! You mean I can trust the system?' Mr Anwar rejected the allegations levelled by 23-year-old aide Mohamad Saiful Bukhari Azlan as another conspiracy, following the events of 1998 when he was sacked as deputy premier and jailed on sodomy and corruption counts.

'It appears that the events of the last few days, the nature of my unwarranted arrest, my overnight incarceration which was actually absolutely unnecessary, were an act of personal vengeance against me,' he said.

'They should not use this as a personal vendetta against me.' Mr Anwar said he was being targeted because of allegations he has made against the attorney-general and chief of police over his treatment during his original trial.

He has lodged a police report accusing them of manipulating evidence in an investigation into the severe beating he received when he was in police custody at the time.

The 60-year-old opposition leader defended his decision not to give a DNA sample during Wednesday's examination, saying he had no faith in the system after fabricated DNA evidence was used against him in his trial a decade ago.

'My decision to refuse a DNA test is taken through advice of my lawyers and DNA experts,' he said.

And he criticised the decision to arrest him, when he had agreed to face police interrogation at a meeting scheduled just an hour after he was picked up by police.

'I am disappointed with the way the police have handled this whole situation,' he said. -- AFP

Meanwhile, an upset Anwar Ibrahim lashed out at the police saying that to date they have not given him a copy of the police report of the sodomy allegation made by Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan. He questioned why despite repeated requests the police report was being kept from him and his lawyers.

"Is it so that they can keep amending and amending and amending it to fit in with the statement that I have just given to the police. I gave my statement for five hours yesterday (Wednesday) and for another 30 minutes this morning.

"If they give the report to me now, how am I supposed to know that it is the original? Are they waiting to make up the 'perfect' police report (to fix me)," he said, adding that each time he asked the police for a copy of the report, he was told they had been instructed against giving him a copy.

"Who gave the instruction? The Deputy Prime Minister or his wife? The IGP or AG?" he asked.

He said there has never been a case where a suspect did not know exactly what he was being accused of or denied access to the police report made by the accuser.

He said some of those involved like the AG Gani Patail and the IGP Musa Hassan had a personal vendetta against him as they were involved in the 1998 case against him.

"I went through hell in the 1998 case. They should not use this as a personal vendetta against me," he said, adding that both Musa and Gani should have nothing to do with the case.

On DNA

Anwar also disclosed that during his medical examination that he was made to undergo at the KL Hospital, he was stripped naked, had his whole body was examined including his private parts measured.

"Of course I refused to be photographed because it would be on (video sharing portal) YouTube very soon! For a man of my age, it's not a compliment!" he quipped, to much laughter.

Anwar said he did not agree to having a blood sample taken because he did not trust the system and feared that the police would fabricate evidence against him using his DNA as he alleged they had done 10 years ago for a similar crime. He said while he trusted the doctors and their professionalism, they could not guarantee the safety of the sample once it was handed over to the police.

He cited the 1998 sodomy case where the police found his samples on a mattress to implicate him and when the court found the evidence inadmissible, Justice S. Augustine Paul merely expunged that part, amended the charges and let the case proceed instead of throwing the case out. He also pointed out that in the present case, Mohd Saiful was still under police protection "making any fabrication possible" if they obtained his DNA.

In any case, he said, the police already had his DNA sample of 10 years ago which they forcibly obtained from KLH.

Anwar refused to give a DNA sample on Wednesday night because they feared there would be fabrication of evidence, which Anwar had alleged had taken place in the infamous "black eye" incident of nearly a decade ago. At that time, Anwar was alleged to have committed sodomy too.

Probably the police is waiting the DNA profiling to complete the script before a perfect police report is produced.

It is time we make IGP Musa Hassan accountable to the nation for what is suspected to be conduct detrimental to the honour and integrity of the Royal Malaysian Police Force.

For starters, he should be asked to go on extended leave to allow a thorough and unfettered investigation of the evidence fixing report by Anwar Ibrahim. This mattress lugging IGP has plenty to answer for. One would not be far off the mark if one thought the method and style of the party that arrested Anwar Ibrahim near his home carried Musa’s imprimatur.

It was as if they were on the trail of a dangerous misfit whose arrest and arraignment was top priority for the Force. You would not suspect that it was over a report of sodomy; more like arson or murder — the way they were clad in balaclava and toting weaponry suitable for the interdiction of a Botak Chin or a Bentong Kali.

Come on guys, this is Anwar Ibrahim they were after. Unless you are suffering from a severe case of amnesia, this is the former Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister of Malaysia, a man widely regarded as one of the Muslim’s world leading public intellectuals, esteemed by political leaders and opinion makers in the West and in the rest of the world and recently listed by Time magazine as the only Malaysian in their ranking of the world’s 100 Most Influential People.

Detained and subjected to questioning at the Kuala Lumpur Police Headquarters, the Police then took him to the Kuala Lumpur General Hospital for a medical examination that required him to strip and have his private parts examined.

Thank God, he had the presence and sternesss of mind to refuse to be photographed in the buff. Had Anwar submitted to the usual Police pressure tactics (that is the Good Cop Bad Cop routine, I mean), there is no guarantee that these photographs would not be manipulated for salacious couplings with Godness knows who–to bolster innuendoes about his sexual perversions.

When it came to extractions for a DNA test, Anwar flatly refused, knowing that he would be subject to the possibility of more diabolical manipulations by the same people who took such obscene delight in lugging a supposedly semen-stained mattress at his previous sodomy trial in 1999. Having been bitten by that traversty of a trial, Anwar is suitably warned.

Of course, his refusal to submit to a DNA sampling now exposes him to the surmise that he has something to hide. But such deductions do not take account of one glaring fact that Anwar has yet to be shown the report of his accusser. There is more than an even chance that the catamite had not made a detailed report of his alleged abuse by Anwar, thereby leaving the Police with enough latitude to construct ‘events’ and create a case for prosecution.

As Anwar said at his press conference today in Bukit Segambut rather emphatically,　“[Can] you imagine - I was asked to stay in the lock-up overnight, spent five-and-a-half hours answering questions and I’ve not seen Saiful’s (Bukhari Azlan) report.” Talk of phantoms, Saiful’s report has become, with apologies to the late Saddam Hussein, “the Mother of all Phantoms”.

While I have the highest regard for the ordinary mata-mata who exposes his life and limb in the normal course of duty, braving the elements at times so that Malaysians can enjoy peace and security at work and at play, I regret to say that I have nothing but contempt for certain elements in the top brash of the Force who have no qualms of conscience about being satraps of political pharoahs.—Din Merican

"I was stripped naked" says Anwar

Anwar Ibrahim has been freed and is now at home. A press conference is scheduled to held soon.

Recalling yesterday's event his appointment was 2pm and he still had at least a good 30 minutes to have a good home cook meal and refreshing himself.

But on his way home for lunch,the police in balaclavas pounced on him. The police version is that they had to act because they feared a possible confrontation with his supporters if they had to arrest him at home. But why ski masks?

The public opinion is not with the police and gomen.

Anwar Ibrahim said he was stripped naked and his private parts examined during the physical examination yesterday at Hospital Kuala Lumpur.

“When I was brought to the hospital, I was stripped naked for tests and had my private parts examined,” he told a packed press conference at his house hours after he was freed on police bail.

“They also measured the necessary parts,” he quipped.

Anwar added that he refused to have his photographs taken “as they could end up on YouTube”. According to Anwar, he also refused his blood to be taken during the medical examination.

Anwar, a former DPM who seeking to mount a political comeback after being sacked and jailed on sodomy and corruption charges a decade ago, was arrested by balaclava-clad police commandos in dramatic scenes yesterday. He was taken to police headquarters and underwent a marathon six-hour questioning session before being escorted to the hospital for a medical examination.

RPK Arrest Update

Hakim Mahkamah Majestrit hari ini bersetuju untuk mengatakan bahawa pertuduhan keatas Raja Petra Kamarudin adalah tidak lengkap.Beliau akan dibebakan sehingga Peguam Negara meminda dan membuat satu lagi pertuduhan baru keatas beliau.

Sebelum ini, Raja Petra enggan berkata apa-apa berhubung akuan berkanunnya di Mahkamah yang mengaitkan isteri timbalan perdana menteri dengan pembunuhan Altantuya Shaariibuu.

Beliau pagi tiba di IPK KL kira-kira jam 10 pagi tadi dan seterusnya dibawa ke Mahkamah Jalan Duta.

Menurut laporan berita Malaysiakini, beliau dijangka didakwa mengikut Seksyen 500 Kanun Keseksaan berhubung akuannya 18 Jun lalu yang mengaitkan Rosmah Mansor dengan pembunuhan wanita Mongolia itu.

Mei lalu, Raja Petra telah ditahan dan didakwa dengan tuduhan hasutan kerana penyiaran artikel bertajuk ‘Let’s send the Altantuya murderres to hell’ dalam lamanwebnya Malaysia Today.

Kira-kira jam 12.45 tgh tadi, ketika saya menanti kepulangan DSAI untuk kami bersama menemani beliau ke IPK Kula Lumpur, kami telah dikejutkan dengan berita bahawa beliau telah ditahan kurang 50 meter dari rumah kami oleh Polis yang datang bersama Unit Tindakan Khas (UTK), lengkap bersenjata dan bertopeng ala komando.

Igauan ngeri peristiwa hitam tahun 1998 berulang lagi. DSAI dilayan seperti penjenayah terrorist. Kerisauan dan kegusaran kami sekeluarga terhadap keselamatan DSAI kini sampai pada puncaknya. Tiada siapa antara kami yang tahu apa akan terjadi seterusnya. Saya seru teman-teman untuk bersama mendoakan keselamatan DSAI pejuang rakyat yang tidak pernah kenal erti putus. Umpama lilin yang membakar diri…

Dad was arrested by the cops whilst on his way to the IPK to give his statement. The cops gave till 2pm for dad to report but still arrested him before the deadline. Dad was on his way back home to have lunch in Bukit Segambut, and then head to the IPK but the cops blocked off the road and arrested him like a criminal. And the cops who arrested him were Special Squad cops with balaclavas!!! Is that necessary!!!

I hope and pray for our nation today. I ask all Malaysians to be calm but strong in this event. I truly do believe our nation’s future rests on what happens in the next weeks.

Please please do not give the authorities any reason to crack down on us. Let us do everything by the book and do what’s right.

KUALA LUMPUR, July 16, 2008 3:30 PM

This afternoon at 1:05 PM Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, former Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia, was arrested outside of his home in Kuala Lumpur.

He was due to issue a statement at IPK KL (Kuala Lumpur Police Contingent Headquarters) at 2:00 PM based on an agreement reached with the police on Tuesday.

Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was returning from the Anti Corruption Agency to his home after giving a statement pertaining to the police report that has been filed regarding suppression of material facts in the case involving him in 1998. He was accompanied by his senior legal team, staff, and security.

As he entered the neighborhood of his home, a contingent of ten police cars, half unmarked and half patrol, forced the two cars in Anwar Ibrahim’s entourage to stop.

There was a contingent of 20 balaclava-clad masked commandos (UTK) who accosted him, reminiscent of the forces sent to arrest Anwar Ibrahim at his home in September 1998.

An officer approached Anwar Ibrahim and demanded that he accompany the police in an unmarked vehicle to the Kuala Lumpur Police Contingent Headquarters.

His lawyers were not permitted to travel with him to the police station.

This arrest has taken place less than fifteen hours after Anwar Ibrahim appeared live on Malaysian television for the first time since 1998, and announced to millions of viewers his intention to stand for election, and upon the formation of a new government, to lower the domestic price of fuel by 50 sen.

The overwhelming majority of Malaysians expressed their support of his televised statement.

These events are deeply disturbing to us and indicate that this entire episode is a repeat of the actions taken against Anwar Ibrahim in 1998.

During the last few weeks the government owned mainstream media has demonized and vilified him.

His staff has been harassed and we see a conspiracy being hatched to thwart the political change that is imminent in Malaysia.

Under no circumstances will the people of Malaysia and the international community tolerate any harm coming to Anwar Ibrahim.

We remind Prime Minister Abdullah Badawi of the promise he made to ensure Anwar Ibrahim’s protection.

We have been able to communicate with Anwar Ibrahim, who calls upon his supporters and the people of Malaysia to remain calm and to reject any attempts at provocation, which will give a pretext for an emergency situation to be declared.

Nyata Anwar lebih professional dari Shabery Chik........

Bertempat di DBP debat selama satu jam di antara Anwar Ibrahim dan Ahmad Shabery Chik bertajuk "Hari ini membentuk kerajaan, esok turun harga minyak' berjalan dengan sempurna serta disiarkan secara langsung oleh TV 9 dan saluran-saluran pilihan di Astro.

Debat ini adalah berkaitan dengan isu dan bukan pasal personaliti, oleh itu tiada siapa yang menang ataupun kalah.

Namun apa yang kurang adalah tindakan Shabery Chik yang kerap melontar hal-hal yang menyentuh peribadi Anwar dan ini adalah kurang sihat. Banyak soalan yang dibangkitkan tidak dijawab oleh Shabery Chik, malah dia banyak menyimpang daripada topik asal itu.

Malah soalan yang dikemukakan oleh Zulkifli Sulong tidak langsung dijawab Shabery Chik. Shabery juga banyak cuba membandingkan harga minyak dengan Saudi dan Venezuela,tapi dalam nada yang lain pula berkata jangan buat perbandingan. Hujjah-hujjah Shabery Chik banyak bercanggah antara satu sama lain.

Anwar pandai mengunakan debat ini sebagai platform untuk mencambahkan idea-ideanya,dan dalam hal ini nyata Anwar berjaya sekali. Tidak seperti Shabery Chik yang kerap memutarbelit fakta, Anwar memberi fokus kepada isu sebenar dan cara menandinginya walau dicelah-celah itu dia cuit Shabery Chik dan ahli panel Dr.Nordin Kardi yang tak tahu apa hubungan di antara minyak,gas dan IPP.

Apa yang menarik,ialah Anwar mengakui bahawa IPP diwujudkan ketika beliau dalam kerajaan, tetapi meminta Shabery Chik meneliti rekod mengenainya. Anwar berkata, Tan Sri Ani Arope (pengerusi TNB ketika itu) membantah terhadap EPU (Unit Perancang Ekonomi) dan Jabatan Perdana Menteri (JPM) berhubung IPP. Dan sebab itulah beliau meletakkan jawatan.
Menurutnya, IPP mengaut keuntungan berbilion ringgit tetapi yang menanggung kerugian adalah Petronas dan TNB.

Anwar berkata, kebocoran dan kronisme boleh ditangani dan menjimatkan sejumlah RM3 bilion. Malah, kata Anwar lagi, tindakan menaikkan secara mendadak harga minyak adalah preskripsi IMF. Oleh itu, katanya, adalah satu fitnah untuk mengatakan bahawa beliau tunduk kepada kehendak IMF sewaktu krisis ekonomi pada 1997-98.

Anwar was poised,patient,precise, factual, intelligent,articulate,
persuasive and responded to questions to the point and most of all, did not succumb to retaliate to the innuendos and personal attacks by Shabery Chik. Anwar was quick on his tongue and mind. Anwar did not resort to below-the-belt comments.

While,on the other hand , Shabery Chik was frothing with anticipation,was too arrogant and full of rhetoric. Shabery Chik kept calling Anwar's stance populist. However Shabery Chik was courageous enough to face the master himself when others(ministers,including PM & DPM) fear to trade. The only bonus is that Shabery Chik is much better than the previous Information Minister - remember the clown Zainuddin Maidin on Al Jazeera?

Mulai esok dan seterusnya pengulas dan pakar ekonomi yang terdiri daripada professor-professor kangkong akan membanjiri studio TV1,2,3,7,8 & 9 serta Astro untuk memberi ulasan mereka yang sering berat sebelah. Mungkin ini kali terakhir dapat kita lihat Anwar kerana mungkin esok, gomen mahu Anwar ditangkap sebagai hadiah kepada Shabery Chik.

Bear in mind with the sodomy charges against him, and a warrant of arrest out if he fails an appointment with police yet Anwar was awesome,outstanding,a timepiece at his best and you be the judge...........

With all the brouhaha,will Anwar be allowed to debate....

After all the brouhaha,created by the police and mending roadblocks around Parliament in anticipation of a 'rally' cooked up from some unknown sources, as the Home Minister Syed Hamid Albar claimed it came thru SMS,blogs posting etc...etc...., the people are quite sceptical as to whether the debate on the hike of petroleum prices will ever take place.

Syed Hamid Albar said that the credible information on the alleged meeting was from an insider and tip-offs from text-messages and blog-posts.

“I did not say that we shouldn't act on SMSes. We had used this during the election (campaign). We have to act on all sorts of things, the police cannot wait for events to happen. The police must make sure that public order is maintained and they have done that.

Btw.the so called insider and those SMS messages and blog posting were probably the work of the gomen and the UMNO goons themselves. This is another UMNO's smokescreen tactic to derail Anwar from making a political comeback.

Yesterday Anwar Ibrahim had defied the police order under Section 111 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CPC) to request him to report to the police today at 2pm to take a statement in respect of an alleged report of sodomy. After what happened yesterday BN looks afraid of having this 'live' debate since it may show the rakyat on how Pat Lah's gomen had been managing and plundering our natural resources.

The court order that allow the police to arrest on sight if Anwar is spotted within five kilometres of Parliament is still in force. Will he be arrested before or after the debate for breaching the court order? Its anyone guess..........

Anwar-Shabery debate - its not the question of who win or lose..........

Anwar Ibrahim will be up against Ahmad Shabery Cheek on the 15th of July, 9pm and will be telecast live on TV9(Ch.119) and Astro Awani(Ch.501).

Many feel that Shabery Cheek is not the right minister to be debating with Anwar. The least,it should be Najib,the DPM or Sharir Samad,Minister for Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs should be the right person to so, but probably they have got no balls to come forward to debate this much talked about issue.

Shabery went an extra mile by saying that he will be willing to relinquish his post if he lose. Doesnt this sound childish? Its not about who is going to win or lose,but rather, the people wants to know whether the gomen or the opposition can provide a better alternative to the current hardship facing the rakyat as the prices of goods are skyrocketing uncontrollably.

They should cut out the rhetoric. Go to the facts and talk on the issue and issue alone. At the end of the session, we want to know whose calculation is right – the gomen’s or Anwar’s. It will be a win-win situation.

Semua persiapan debat antara Penasihat Parti Keadilan Rakyat,Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim vs Menteri Penerangan ,Datuk Ahmad Shabery Cheek di Balai Tun Syed Nasir, Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka,Kuala Lumpur berjalan lancar.

Jika tidak ada sebarang perkembangan last minute yang menghalang ia akan disiarkan secara langsung tepat jam 9 malam esok 15 Julai. Cuma sikit saja perubahan iaitu ia akan disiarkan secara langsung menerusi TV9 ( jika menerusi Astro saluran 119 ) dan bukan menerusi TV3 seperti yang diumumkan sebelum ini. TV3 pula akan membuat siaran ulangan debat itu kemudian. Perubahan ini tidak dapat dielakan kerana TV3 terikat dengan program asal yang dijadualkan malam itu. Selain TV9 ia juga akan disiarkan secara langsung menerusi Astro Awani ( saluran 501). Promosi mengenai debat yang akan disiarkan menerusi TV9 sudahpun disiar menerusi TV3 dari masa ke semasa.

Pada lewat petang Ahad pihak Bernama TV ( menerusi saluran Astro 502) juga menyampaikan keputusannya nak turut menyiarkan debat itu secara langsung. Agendadaily selaku penganjur debat ini melihat kesediaan ketiga-tiga stesyen televisyen itu serentak menyiarkannya secara langsung sesuatu yang sangat positif dalam menengahkan budaya perdebatan secara intelektual mengenai sesuatu isu besar negara.

Dewan Rakyat under siege..........

Police have put up road blocks in the capital as they brace for protests ahead of a possible debate of no confidence in Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi tomorrow. The opposition called on Friday for the debate after Abdullah said he would remain in office until mid-2010 despite his party's drubbing in March elections.

The parliament speaker will decide on Monday whether to allow the debate to go ahead.

Police said several roads leading to the parliament building would be sealed off tomorrow and urged people not to protest, although the Keadilan opposition party denied Sunday it had called for any demonstrations. All police leave has also been cancelled.

"The government is paranoid. We just called our supporters to witness the debate, but authorities think it will be a mass gathering. There is no need for the roadblocks," said information chief Tian Chua. Tian also said opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim was today banned from going anywhere close to parliament.

Anwar has earlier expressed the intention to go to Parliament to hear the no-confidence debate.

"Police came to Anwar's home today and presented the court order restricting him from going near parliament on Monday. If Anwar breaches the order, he could be arrested and charged in court," he told AFP.

The court order will allow the police to arrest on sight if Anwar and opposition supporters are spotted within five kilometres of Parliament.

Its only a vote of no confidence filed by Pakatan Rakyat, and there is a possibility that the House speaker could shoot down the opposition Pakatan Rakyat's motion for the debate which was filed last Friday. With the police in full force around Parliament and a court order preventing Anwar and the rakyat to witness the motion, I am wondering whether this is Malaysia or Zimbawe? House speaker shoots down no-confidence motion.

Parliament speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia has today disallowed a no-confidence debate against Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, resulting in a walk-out by opposition Pakatan Rakyat MPs. Pandikar rejected the emergency motion, which was filed by Opposition Leader Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail on Friday, as the issue had already been debated last month.

According to the House speaker, the debate on the oil price hike filed by Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Shahrir Abdul Samad on June 23 was a no-confidence motion.In that motion, the government won with a vote of 129 against 78.

At noon, Wan Azizah stood up in the Dewan Rakyat to ask the House speaker to reconsider his decision against allowing the no-confidence debate. Pandikar refused to entertain the request, leading to the hall erupting into pandemonium.

All Pakatan MPs subsequently staged a walk-out, accompanied by calls of ‘balik kampung’ from their BN colleagues. - Malaysiakini.

Liwat: Polis ambil keterangan Anwar esok - Oleh UMAVATHI RAMAYAH

Polis akan mengambil keterangan Penasihat Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim berhubung kes dakwaan liwat terhadapnya, petang Isnin ini. Bagaimanapun, tindakan memanggil Anwar itu bagi membantu siasatan kes dakwaan liwat melibatkannya ekoran laporan oleh bekas pembantunya, Mohd. Saiful Bukhari Azlan, 23, pada 28 Jun lalu.

Pada masa sama, Badan Pencegah Rasuah (BPR) memberitahu, Anwar akan turut dipanggil memberi keterangan dalam tempoh terdekat ini berhubung satu laporan polis beliau terhadap Peguam Negara, Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail dan Ketua Polis Negara, Tan Sri Musa Hassan.

Mengenai kes dakwaan liwat, Pengarah Jabatan Siasatan Jenayah, Datuk Mohd. Bakri Mohd. Zinin berkata, Anwar telah menyatakan persetujuan hadir untuk memberi keterangan di Ibu Pejabat Polis Kontinjen (IPK) Kuala Lumpur pada pukul 2 petang hari berkenaan. Katanya, persetujuan itu dimaklumkan kepada pihak polis oleh peguam bekas Timbalan Perdana Menteri itu, Sankara N. Nair pagi ini.

“Kita panggil dia (Anwar) untuk rakam keterangannya berhubung laporan liwat terhadapnya (oleh Mohd. Saiful Bukhari), bukan untuk tahan beliau,” katanya ketika dihubungi Mingguan Malaysia di sini hari ini. Baca di sini, sini dan sini.
