SPR gagal batal saman Dr.Streram...

Pegawai Pilihan Raya Dewan Undangan Negeri (DUN) Rantau, Amino Agos Suyub dan Suruhanjaya Pilihan Raya (SPR) gagal membatalkan saman yang dikemukakan calon Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Dr S.Streram berhubung salah laku ketika proses penamaan calon hingga menyebabkan beliau tidak dapat bertanding pada Pilihan Raya Umum ke-14.

Ini berikutan keputusan Pesuruhjaya Kehakiman Mahkamah Tinggi Darryl Goon Siew Chye yang menolak permohonan Amino Agos dan SPR selaku defendan pertama dan kedua untuk membatalkan saman oleh Dr Streram.

Peguam Mohamed Haniff Khatri Abdulla yang mewakili Dr Streram memberitahu pemberita selepas prosiding di dalam kamar hakim itu bahawa mahkamah membuat keputusan tersebut atas alasan kes berkenaan adalah berbeza dengan petisyen pilihan raya yang telah difailkan sebelum ini.

“Alasan lain ialah berhubung dengan ‘klausa pengecualian’ berhubung pegawai-pegawai SPR tidak boleh secara automatik menidakkan kuasa mahkamah untuk mendengar kes misfeasance,” kata peguam itu.

Katanya mahkamah memutuskan bahawa tindakan itu (saman) bukanlah tergolong sebagai satu tindakan yang tidak boleh berjaya semasa perbicaraan dan mahkamah menetapkan 2 Nov untuk pengurusan kes lanjut serta memerintahkan defendan memfailkan penyataan pembelaan sebelum atau pada tarikh itu.

Dr Streram, 63, seorang doktor bius dan anggota PKR memfailkan saman berkenaan pada 7 Mei lepas menerusi Tetuan Haniff Khatri dengan menamakan Amino Agos dan SPR yang diwakili peguam K. Sathya sebagai defendan pertama dan kedua.

Dalam pernyataan tuntutannya, Dr Streram mendakwa bahawa defendan gagal menunaikan tanggungjawab di bawah Akta Suruhanjaya Pilihan Raya 1958, yang mengakibatkan dirinya tidak dapat bertanding di kerusi DUN Rantau selepas memperoleh watikah pelantikan daripada partinya dan susulan itu, Datuk Seri Mohamad Hassan dari Barisan Nasional memenangi kerusi DUN itu tanpa bertanding.

Dalam tuntutannya juga beliau berkata telah membayar deposit sebanyak RM5,000 untuk pendaftaran pencalonannya dan RM3,000 lagi untuk deposit bahan kempen pada 25 April.

Beliau juga mendakwa bahawa pihak SPR tidak memaklumkan kepadanya bahawa pas SPR diperlukan untuk tujuan memasuki pusat penamaan calon.

Selain itu, Streram juga membuat dua laporan polis terhadap pegawai pengurus pilihan raya itu dan SPR mengikut Seksyen 124B dan 124C Kanun Keseksaan kerana mengganggu proses demokrasi berparlimen dengan tidak membenarkannya menjadi calon. - mt

MACC Shocked At Lim’s Acquittal, But Never Shocked At Shahrizat’s Cowgate Scandal Acquittal...

Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng has been acquitted of corruption charges over the purchase of a bungalow allegedly below the market value. The former Penang chief minister together with businesswoman Phang Li Koon (who also faces the corruption charges) was freed by the Penang High Court. However, the acquittal has raised eyebrows and jaw-dropping firestorm.

Surprisingly, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) says it is “shocked” over the acquittal of Mr. Lim and Ms Phang. In a statement, the MACC claims – “The MACC would like to stress that the decision was made by the Attorney General’s office and not the MACC.” Lim’s counsel Ramkarpal Singh said he was “shocked” by the MACC’s shock over Lim’s acquittal.

Joining the bandwagon is Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad. Expressing his shock, probably made with tongue-in-cheek, Mahathir said – “They (MACC) have a right to be shocked. If they want to be shocked, they can be shocked. I am also shocked. If the court makes a decision which to me is wrong, I also never comment on it.”

So, what is so special about Lim’s acquittal that everyone appears to be shocked? The joint trial of Lim Guan Eng and Phang Li Koon was in connection to the conversion of land from agriculture to residential status, and the purchase of a plot of land and a bungalow at below market value. Every Tom, Dick and hamsters knew there was no case from the beginning.

Those who think otherwise have pointed out to the similarities between Lim’s bungalow and former Selangor Chief Minister Khir Toyo’s bungalow scandal. Mr. Toyo had failed to convince judges that his bungalow was purchased based on “willing buyer-willing-seller” basis and was sentenced for 12 months behind bars. Therefore, Mr. Lim should be sent to jail too, they argued.

However, both bungalow scandals are different from the beginning. You can go to this article written 2 years ago and read why both aren’t the same. MACC obviously has shot itself in the foot after expressing its’ shock over Lim’s acquittal. Why should it be so shocked unless MACC has been playing the roles of a judge, jury and executioner under the previous Barisan Nasional government?

Lim’s lawyer Ramkarpal has offered his reason of being shocked over MACC’s shock. According to Ramkarpal, MACC should not be shocked because the director of its own legal and prosecution division, Mohd Masri Daud, was the one who had informed the court that he was withdrawing the charges. However, MACC claims later that Masri is not an MACC officer.

Mr. Masri, acting as the deputy public prosecutor, asked the court to consider a discharge not amounting to acquittal for the two. However, Judge Hadhariah Syed Ismail decided to discharge and acquit both Lim and Phang, after agreeing with defence counsel that it was not right for the public prosecutor to leave a cloud hanging over their heads as they might be charged again in the future.

Judge Hadhariah justified that so far the prosecution had called 25 witnesses to testify in the trial last March and now in September the prosecution had asked the case to be discharged not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA). She said – “Six months later, the prosecution may call for other witnesses. There is no such thing especially in public interest case.”

Ramkarpal, on the other hand, said – “I am shocked that the MACC is shocked over the decision. They (MACC) obviously have knowledge and been informed that the charges will be withdrawn, as the entire process involves the MACC. Is the MACC saying that the AG (Attorney General) did not consult them? This is a serious allegation.”

So, what the hell is happening within MACC? It appears there’re different warlords or little Napoleons within the anti-corruption agency. Either there’re pro-UMNO or pro-Najib corrupt officers within MACC trying to sabotage the new government, or the entire MACC is playing politics – hedging its bet over the possibility of a return of ex-premier Najib or UMNO to the federal government.

Worse still, there could be MACC warlords who are aligned to certain component party of the Pakatan Harapan coalition tasked to ensure the downfall of Lim Guan Eng, the Secretary-General of the Democratic Action Party (DAP). If Lim is found guilty, he will most certainly lose his Finance Minister post, allowing another component party to snatch and claim the important portfolio.

Amazingly, the perception is Lim Guan Eng must go through the trial, even if there isn’t sufficient and compelling evidence, and be found guilty. And he must be sent to prison to prove that the new Pakatan Harapan government practices accountability. He cannot be acquitted because to do so would be seen as a cover-up, no matter how innocence he is.

Lim Guan Eng must go through a trial, be found guilty and sent to prison because he’s the leader of Chinese-based DAP. Not only will DAP lose its jewel Finance Minister post, the imprisonment of Lim will also weaken the incredible strong party. Certain parties – regardless whether friends or foes – will benefit greatly with a weaker DAP in the coalition government.

It’s both flabbergasted and entertaining that MACC found it shocking that Lim Guan Eng’s RM2.8 million bungalow scandal was acquitted but didn’t find it shocking when the husband of former UMNO Wanita Chief Shahrizat Abdul Jalil was acquitted of two charges of criminal breach of trust involving RM49.7 million after the prosecution informed the court that it did not wish to pursue the matter.

Why MACC is extremely offended that the prosecutor did not wish to pursue Lim’s case but the same MACC wasn’t offended at all that the prosecutor did not wish to pursue Shahrizat’s case in 2015? In fact, the infamous Cowgate scandal had much stronger evidence of convicting Shahrizat’s husband (Mohamad Salleh Ismail) and throw him in jail.

In the Cowgate scandal, Shahrizat and her family members practically had siphoned RM250 million of taxpayers money meant for National Feedlot Corporation (NFC). Her husband, Mohamad Salleh Ismail, and their children Wan Shahinur Izran, Wan Izzana Fatimah Zabedah and Wan Shahinur Izmir, were made directors at NFC, enriching themselves with jaw-dropping salaries.

As NFCorp Chairman, Shahrizat’s husband Mohammad Salleh Ismail paid himself RM100,000 monthly salary, while 31-year-old son Izmir was paid RM45,000 monthly as executive director. Another son Wan Shahinur Izran, 27, commanded RM35,000 a month as CEO and 25-year-old daughter Wan Izzanah Fatimah was paid RM35,000 as a director. The family was paid a total sum of RM215,000 every month.

NFCorp admitted that nearly RM600,000 of its funds was used to pay for credit card expenses, mostly accumulated by the despicable family. Shahrizat’s husband had also admitted to the purchase of two luxury condominiums in Bangsar costing RM6.9 million each. They had also purchased a RM500,000 Mercedes Benz CLS 350 CGI, two plots of land and paid holiday packages.

Heck, Shahrizat had even sent most of the beef produced by NFC to three luxury restaurants – Meatworks, Senor Santos and Brawns Steakhouse – owned by her family in Singapore. The crooks had also purchased two condominiums at Marina Bay Financial Center suites costing RM34.6 million. In total, Shahrizat’s family had bought RM62 million worth of condos.

When compared to Shahrizat’s RM250 million Cowgate scandal, why did MACC cherry-pick and chooses to be bloody shocked at Lim’s RM2.8 million bungalow instead? There’s nothing to be shocked. Lim Guan Eng didn’t acquit himself. MACC’s job is to investigate and Attorney General Chamber’s job is to prosecute. After calling 25 witnesses and still without strong evidence, it’s only natural to drop the case. - ft

Pilih pemimpin yang berkuasa bukan penggangor...

Sekarang Anwar Ibrahim dan Rafizi Ramli dikira sebagai penganggur sebab kedua-duanya tiada jawatan dalam kerajaan, hanya ada jawatan dalam parti.

Anwar dipecat pada 2 September 1998 dan dipasung kali ketiga di Sungai Buloh pada 10 Februari 2015 namun bebas pada 16 Mei lalu tanpa sebarang jawatan dalam kerajaan.

Malah hari ini pun setelah 20 tahun, Anwar masih menganggur walaupun Pakatan Harapan sudah menang di Putrajaya.

Manakala Rafizi pula tidak mempertahankan Pandan pada PRU 14 tapi membantu Pakatan Harapan menang 42 daripada 44 kerusi parlimen yang membantu menumbangkan rejim Umno Barisan Nasional, juga tanpa sebarang jawatan dalam kerajaan.

Apakah pemimpin itu dalam sengaja atau tidak menyindir Anwar walaupun sindiriannya jelas ditujukan kepada Rafizi semalam?

Namun harus ingat mereka berdualah yang membantu pemimpin rakus angkuh bongkak sombong itu merampas Putrajaya sedang dalam masa sama dia sendiri bercumbu dengan musuh di Selangor! - f/bk

Ungrateful Najib’s Camp Throws Spy Girl “Money Mule” Hasanah Under The Bus...

Hasanah, the top spy girl of former Prime Minister Najib Razak is in deep trouble. The Malaysia’s ex-CIA Chief is as good as counting her days before being thrown into jail. Jane Bond “Hasanah”, arguably the most powerful woman in the intelligence community due to her extraordinary close relationship with Mr. Najib, is now alone fighting for her own survival.

Hasanah Abdul Hamid, the former head of Malaysia’s External Intelligence Organisation (MEIO) – equivalent to CIA – was Najib’s most trusted intelligence head until the ex-premier was unexpectedly ejected from office at the polls on May 9th. And then Kaboom! A letter from Hasanah to United States CIA soliciting for support for his boss Najib was leaked.

Najib cleverly played his “I don’t know” and “I’m not aware” cards, denying any knowledge whatsoever of the damning letter written to the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) seeking the US’ support for his administration in the 14th general election. Mr. Najib clearly knew the seriousness of the scandal as it involves the sovereignty of the country.

Inviting a foreign authority, especially the CIA, to enter Malaysia’s domestic affairs is an act of treasonous and treacherous at the highest degree. As Najib was washing his hands off the CIA letter, Hasanah said the contents of the letter were “nothing unusual”. She even lodged a police report on July 31, arguing that the letter were intelligence secrets which fall under the Official Secrets Act.

Amusingly, her lawyers were quite dumb too, urging police to investigate who leaked the letter, which was “highly classified”. Initially the foreign news media were not sure if there was such a letter to begin with. They thought it was just some rumours. Heck, some foreign journalists had even questioned if the letter was ever delivered in the first place.

But spy chief Hasanah and his lawyers, probably without them realizing it, have admitted not only the existence but also to the authenticity of the letter. That shows the intelligence agency chief wasn’t that intelligent after all. The straw that broke the camel’s back was surprisingly not about the letter but the discovery that Malaysia’s Jane Bond was nothing but a petty thief.

Covered her face with hands to prevent being photographed by journalists when arrested four days ago (Aug 29), 61-year-old Hasanah was remanded in custody over an alleged theft of funds intended to be used for the May’s historic general election. While transporting money to a secret location after Barisan Nasional lost the May 9th poll, her officers helped themselves to the cash.

But stealing some cash – reportedly about US$400,000 (RM1.6 million) – was just the icing on the cake. The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is reportedly investigating the possibility that spy chief Hasanah was involved in helping Najib misappropriating or laundering election funds – amounted to US$12 million – believed to be from 1MDB fund.

Together with seven others, including her former deputy, Hasanah was grilled for her role of bringing in cash through the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) sometime in mid-April, allegedly for the 14th general election. Sources told Malaysiakini portal that the funds originated from the Middle East. The rumour mill is churning news that fugitive Jho Low could be the source of those funds.

Yes, like drug mules, the puzzling question is why a spy agency was reduced to becoming “money mule” – trafficking cash to the tune of US$12 million to grease Najib’s election machinery. If it can be established that spy girl Hasanah had abused her power smuggling money from Middle East into Malaysia on behalf of Najib regime, this could be an explosive scandal.

And you know Hasanah is in such a deep shit when the same party she had worked for has decided to throw her under the bus. Pro-Najib cybertroopers, propagandists and bloggers now sing a different tune – that Najib’s most trusted spy chief was actually working for the CIA to topple previous Najib-led Barisan Nasional coalition government.

Suddenly, a Jane Bond whom everyone thought was so dumb she should not be allowed to own fish as pets is painted as a well-connected spy chief who commanded the respect from all the foreign intelligence agencies included American CIA and British MI5. Hasanah is being accused of deliberately feeding wrong intelligence to Najib, misled him into thinking he would win the 2018 general election.

When Hasanah lodged a police report on July 31, one of the first things she did was telling reporters that the letter she wrote to CIA had nothing to do with her boss, ex-PM Najib Razak. It appeared that although it was unbelievable she could have took the liberty to write the letter on her own, she has at least shown her loyalty by taking all the blame to save Mr. Najib.

Hasanah, despite making her best effort to shield Najib from further damage, is given a kick from behind by Najib’s propagandists. A new twist is being thrown to a simple story of Najib’s stealing and plundering, justifying that the CIA letter and US$12 million smuggled in from the Middle East were the work of Najib’s people as payback for her sabotage or betrayal against Najib.

Interestingly, UMNO supreme council member Lokman Noor Adam – Najib’s strongest supporter and loudest cheerleader – has given Hasanah a stab in the back, agreeing that the former spy chief’s letter to CIA “is a mistake that cannot be forgiven.” Mr. Lokman said – “Authorities must investigate. We cannot tolerate acts of treason.”

It seems that Lokman, as mouthpiece of Najib, has spoken on behalf of the former premier – that the chief of now defunct MEIO, a covert intelligence agency, had committed acts of treason. He also said the writing of the letter was absolute nonsense and terrible, and should not have been done.

Mr. Lokman said – “We cannot get any assistance from any foreign countries or foreign bodies to assist us to overthrow a leader or keep them in power.” Would Lokman and Najib’s paid cybertroopers, propagandists and bloggers say the same thing about Hasanah had CIA helped turn the table in favour of Najib regime? Most probably not.

Another reason Lokman cited for criticising (Hasanah) move was his so-called belief that the CIA was “deeply involved” in deposing Najib as prime minister. But how could everyone in Najib’s camp suddenly blame the super spy girl when her letter clearly proves her loyalty to Najib by soliciting a foreign power for political support for her own boss?

Still, Najib’s camp wouldn’t and couldn’t explain for whom Hasanah had smuggled the US$12 million cash from Middle East, if not for Najib Razak himself. Those money were used for Najib’s election campaign, were they not? Clearly, this is a simple case of ungrateful Najib’s camp distancing from the toxic, indefensible and too-hot-to-handle former spy chief caught trafficking money for Najib. - ft

Tahun depan, selama tujuh minggu, dari 12 Februari sampai 29 Mach 2019 perbicaraan bekas PM merangkap maharaja perompak kelas cakrawala akan dibicarakan. Berjuta rakyat berdoa, sembahyang hajat memohon Allah tunjukkan kuasa mutlakNya dalam kes yang memalukan rakyat Malaysia tetapi tidak memalukan Najib Razak dan keluarganya.

Peguam Negara telah melantik dua orang peguam terkemuka untuk mendakwa Najib. Datuk Sulaiman Abdullah memang terkenal sebagai peguam yang bijak serta bekas hakim Datuk Sri Gopal Sri Ram, juga seorang peguam yg banyak pengalaman di bidang kes jenayah. Besar kemungkinan Najib akan mengekalkan Shafie Abdullah yang dikatakan mendapat bayaran RM9 juta lebih dari khidmat guamannya di masa lalu. Kedua peguam yang dilantik Tommy Thomas tidak dibayar apa-apa. Inilah sumbangan ikhlas mereka sebagai patriot Malaysia memperjuangkan hak rakyat yg diperkosa oleh maharaja lanun kelas cakrawala ini.

Dunia memberi perhatian serius terhadap kes Najib yang dikaitkan dengan berbagai jenayah mengenai 1MDB, SRC International dan lain-lain lagi. Besar kemungkinan, selepas perbicaraan kes SRC International yang melibatkan dia menerima RM42 juta dalam akaun pribadinya Najib akan dihadapkan lagi dengan beberapa kes lain. Nampaknya bala demi bala akan timpa menimpa satu demi satu kelak.

Apakah Najib akan buat kenduri tolak bala di Pekan sebelum menghadapi perbicaraannya? Rakyat ingin tahu. Mungkinkah Rosmah akan minta khidmat nasihat para bomoh dan sami yg super hebat untuk menyelamatkan lakinya? Apa pun muslihat, mantra dan amalan Najib, bininya dan keluarga Tun Razak mereka tetap tidak dapat mengatasi kuasa mutlak Allah Ta'ala. Jabatan Hal Ehwal Agama Islam (Jahaeik) Kelantan menyerbu 'sarang' pengikut Syiah di sebuah premis di Jalan Sri Cemerlang, Kota Bharu, malam tadi.

Menurut sumber, serbuan dengan pemantauan pihak polis itu dibuat sebelum tengah malam menjelang detik sambutan Hari Kebangsaan Ke-61.

"Ya ada tangkapan, kira-kira 10 orang terdiri daripada lelaki dan wanita ditahan dalam serbuan tersebut," kata sumber yang enggan dikenali itu.

Sementara itu, Ketua Polis Daerah Kota Bharu, Asisten Komisioner Ismail Mat Sidik mengesahkan pihaknya sekadar membantu dalam operasi tersebut.

"Kita hanya memantau keselamatan dalam operasi itu. Ia dibuat jabatan agama (Jahaeik)," katanya ringkas kepada Malaysiakini.

Sementara itu, usaha untuk mendapatkan respon dan pengesahan daripada pengarah Jaheaik setakat ini belum berhasil. - f/bk

“Pakatan Harapan (PH) continues to be hampered by a trust deficit. Many of its own members are attacking one another. Conspiracies about alliance, intensive politicking and reports of infighting (often played out in the media) are taking place away from what PH should be focused on – governing. After 100 days, these sort of things should be declining, not increasing in prominence” – Dr Bridget Welsh.

I have but to concur with Bridget’s conclusion as that is what it boils down to when making a definitive assessment of Pakatan Harapan’s performance after being in power for a hundred days. Incidentally, the 100-day deadline ended on Saturday, August 18. However, in Perak the party’s 100-day honeymoon concluded on Monday, August 20, a hundred days after Ahmad Faizal Azumu was sworn in as the 12th Menteri Besar of Perak.   

The euphoria over regime change, a taboo word before the unexpected results of General Elections 14 on May 9, is predicted to last perhaps till the end of the year. And it may end much earlier. But on the whole Malaysians are generally happy with developments thus far. My simple answer when posed with this question, “Will Tun Mahathir’s government survive the test?” I say so with much conviction that he would, considering what he has achieved so far. As far as I am concerned getting rid of a highly corrupt government led by a kleptocratic leader whose only interest was to milk the country dry is no mean feat.

And based on this premise, I feel most Malaysians are prepared to give Tun Mahathir more time for the simple reason that the new government cannot change a system so embedded in every layer of the society in just 100 days. The rakyat’s needs are simple. They only want two things – “zero tolerance for corruption” and “accountability by those in positions of power”.

And this is what Mahathir has done so far. The much-disliked Najib has been arrested and charged in court and hundreds of officers appointed to senior posts by the former prime minister have been removed and replaced. The new PH administration’s house cleaning may look spiteful but it has the desired results. The fact that Najib and his cohorts get to air their grouses with impunity in the papers and over social media is testament to how “new Malaysia” is being touted. Outdated, regressive and punitive laws are being rescinded for the benefit of the people. To many, the ouster of an arrogant, decadent and highly corrupt government helmed by Barisan Nasional and led by a condescending Umno is the icing on the cake.

The Pakatan Harapan manifesto promises 12 things in the first hundred days. Although not all 12 promises have been fulfilled, the government is on to a good start. The dreaded Goods and Services Tax has been abolished in its entirety. The government has set to make Employment Provident Fund contributions for housewives a must. It has restricted student loan repayments and abolished the blacklisting of defaulters. A comprehensive review of megaprojects like the High Speed Railway project between KL and Singapore and the lopsided East Coast Railway Link between Port Klang, Selangor to Pengkalan Kubor in Kelantan has been made. Mahathir has re-negotiated a new deal with the Chinese Government, one that is more Malaysian-friendly. The issue of stateless Indians has been resolved. Those above 60 and with red identity cards are given automatic citizenship.

Having done so the one thing that requires immediate attention is ridding the “Umno DNA” from the top layer of the administrative machinery. The officers were appointed for one simple reason – loyalty to Najib. One reason why Najib was able to circumvent established procedures was because he appointed those who were willing to look the other way when he was “robbing the state coffers”. Although many have been identified and flushed out there remain a few and these misfits are giving ministries and departments a tough time. Therefore, there is a need to make key institutions free again in order to avoid another scandal similar to 1MDB.

Some of the unfulfilled promises include the debt problem affecting FELDA settlers, setting up of royal commissions of inquiry into the impropriety of 1MDB and financial losses incurred by FELDA, MARA and the pilgrimage fund Tabung Haji. These promises require a heavy injection of funds which the country can ill-afford now that the national debts are in excess of RM1 trillion. The upcoming budget in October will, hopefully, address these shortcomings.

Thus the first 100 days was basically about giving the rakyat what they had wanted – arrest and charging of Najib and a massive cleaning up of the administration. As the government forges past the symbolic deadline, it has to deal with difficult choices head-on in order to correct a corrupt system that has been systematically abused and defrauded by a leader who could not resist the temptation of cold hard cash and the moniker, “Pahlawan Bugis”. While he plundered, his wife was overcome by handbags and tiaras. We are dealing with a morally sick couple.

Having said that, let us examine how much has our 100-day old Menteri Besar Ahmad Faizal Azumu progressed since taking office.

Overall, I am not very impressed. This sentiment is shared by many. Perakeans look forward to a dynamic Menteri Besar unlike the one that craved for cheap publicity on board a City Council dumpster holding a rake and a broom for good measure. Ipohites’ needs have transcended that less-than-enduring image. They look forward to someone who walks the talk and mean what he says. It is one huge disappointment. A leader must be in the thick of the action not someone who is afraid of making mistakes or stepping on his bosses’ toes.

The land lease issue of new villages comes to mind. Faizal’s reluctance to convert temporary titles to permanent titles sticks out like a sore thumb. He has alluded to the Federal Constitution and argued that it was unlawful to bestow permanent titles to new villages. Faizal cited the National Land Council decision in 1988 to double leasehold period from 30 to 60 years to support his claim.

Come on Faizal, these poor settlers have been living on their miniscule plots of land since the Briggs’ Plan of 1951 well before you were born. If Nizar could convert 11 leasehold titles belonging to Orang Asli to freehold in Kampung Baru Kuala Rui, Gerik in 2008, during his short tenure as MB, I don’t see why you can’t. Is this because they are Chinese? Why the double standard?

Constitutional expert and state executive councillor Aziz Bari had insisted that there is no such provision in the Federal Constitution. Perak Pakatan Harapan has pledged to issue freehold titles as part of its election manifesto. Aziz Bari and Nizar were warned by Faizal not to air differences of opinion in public and to the media.

Encroachment of Orang Asli’s lands is another issue that requires an equitable solution. The culprits are companies who extract timber in their concessions without a care for the environment. Their callousness is causing much hardship to the Orang Asli community as their livelihood is being affected.

Faizal’s leadership is suspect. He being in the good books of Tun Mahathir is no assurance of him holding on to his post for a full term. There are rumblings of a no-confidence vote echoing in the halls of the state legislative assembly. - Fathol Zaman Bukhari,Ipoh Echo
