– tmi

Hands off massage parlours, sultan tells Jais...

Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah today told the Selangor Islamic Affairs Department (Jais) to stop focusing on raiding massage parlours.

In his speech to the Jais staff today, Sultan Sharafuddin said the department should only take action within its job scope and not infringe on the job scope of the local authorities.

"Taking action against massage parlours (rumah-rumah urut) is the responsibility of the local authorites," he said at the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah building today.

He added that this was also important so as to avoid criticism of Jais for focusing on trivial matters.

'Emphasise apostasy instead'

He pointed out that Jais should instead give emphasis on issues of apostasy, deviations from the teachings and political speeches in mosques and suraus that he said can affect the sanctity of Islam.

Stressing further, the sultan said Jais, similarly, should emphasise the understanding of Sunni Islam since it is the "main core of belief of the Muslims in the country".

"The failure of Muslims to understand Sunni Islam will give way to deviant teachings," he said.

The sultan then urged both Majlis Agama Islam Selangor (Mais) and Jais to remain as "neutral institutions".

He had earlier commented on several politicians who had taken advantage in using issues related to Islam, by questioning the actions of Mais and Jais as part of their political agenda.

"I want Mais and Jais to avoid getting involved in any party's political agenda," he stressed.- mk

Anwar: This is not 1998, Khalid's not my enemy...

The Selangor menteri mesar will not be unfairly sacked by PKR and turned into a bitter enemy, like what happened between Dr Mahathir Mohamad and himself in 1998, Anwar Ibrahim said today.

Stressing that Khalid has been clued in on the plan to replace him since Jan 15, the PKR de facto leader said the final decision would be made through a Pakatan consensus, even as Khalid dug in and refused to budge from office.

"I don’t think it is correct to equate that sort of  the rancorous exchange in ’98 and the situation now and the issues raised. I came out to fight Umno, not to strengthen Umno.

"At the right time, if compelled to, I will explain. What the public needs to know is that we have observed this process of umpteen meetings of counselling and advice (with Khalid)," he told reporters at the PKR headquarters.

Anwar (right) called Khalid a friend and even a family member, and reminded that Khalid also headed the Kajang by-election campaign, which helped make it possible for Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail to replace him.

Anwar said since January, PKR president Wan Azizah, PAS president Hadi Awang and DAP's parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang have had a series of meetings on the so-called 'Kajang Move' to replace Khalid.

'No need to hype the crisis'

At least one of the meetings even roped in Khalid and was held in Shah Alam, Anwar said. Therefore, there was no need to hype the crisis into a bitter, long-drawn-out fight among bitter enemies.

"Because of that I avoided answering some of the allegations made by the younger politicians (budak-budak bawah). They sometimes go overboard a little and my advice to them is keep check and focus on the facts and the common party fight. There is no need to turn offensive," Anwar said.

During the press conference, Anwar also mostly gave the same answer to different questions about divergent views from PKR’s partners in Pakatan.

Yesterday, the powerful PAS syura council has declared its support for Khalid, while DAP veteran leader Lim Kit Siang expressed worry that Pakatan’s demise was merely days away.

"You are asking us to fight? What for?" Anwar asked reporters in jest.

He said that all views expressed by Pakatan coalition members will be listened to and taken into account before a final decision is made.

"We take into account (these views) and we respect them but we have to make a decision - who is finally chosen as the MB of Selangor is under PKR’s purview," he said.

When pressed by reporters for a solution to the quandary, Anwar would only urge people to wait and see.

He said that a clearer picture would probably emerge after the disciplinary board meeting today and a PKR central leadership committee meeting tomorrow. And he himself is waiting for the Aug 17 meeting to see what PAS finally decides.

Anwar also shrugged off a petition campaign by Selangor state assemblypersons to pressure Khalid to quit, saying the immediate focus now was on the PKR party leaders meeting tomorrow.

Anwar, who was once the prime minister-in-waiting, was sacked from government and from Umno in 1998 by Mahathir when he refused to resign. This sparked off the reformasi movement and marked the beginnings of PKR. - mk

Khalid mesti jelaskan penyelesaian saman Bank Islam...

khalid7

Menteri Besar Selangor Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim bersama Sultan Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah. – Gambar fail The Malaysian Insider.

Apakah makna pemimpin tanpa pengikut atau penyokongnya...

Bagaimana seorang menjadi ketua sebuah kerajaan?

– tmi

Khalid must explain Bank Islam settlement...

There are several issues which appear to indicate that Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim's integrity has been compromised, a PAS lawmaker said today.

Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad said he hoped Abdul Khalid will clear the air over several issues, including his out-of-court settlement with Bank Islam.

"I am aware that PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang has voiced his support for Abdul Khalid, but this was based on two key points," Khalid said, adding that Hadi said the Selangor menteri besar has not betrayed the rakyat's trust nor has he been involved in any scandals.

Khalid said the PAS central committee which was supposed to meet on August 10 to discuss Abdul Khalid's position, had postponed the meeting to August 13.

"There is also a possibility that the meeting might be postponed to a later date as August 13 might not be a convenient date for some of the committee members.

"Therefore, it also gives time for Abdul Khalid to clarify certain issues, especially his out-of-court settlement with Bank Islam over his RM66.67 million debt," said Khalid.

However, PAS secretary-general Datuk Mustafa Ali earlier today announced the meeting was postponed again to August 17.

Khalid said Bank Islam had appeared to be on the brink of victory over Abdul Khalid's case when they suddenly decided to settle out of court.

"It has been reported that former Umno lawyer Tan Sri Abdul Rashid Abdul Manaf had played a prominent role in helping Abdul Khalid resolve his debt issues.

"So we would all like to know what is the secret behind this out-of-court settlement which Abdul Khalid had reached with Bank Islam," the PAS lawmaker said.

What is interesting is that the business deals were signed between the Selangor government and Eco World Berhad, a company controlled by the same lawyer, Rashid.

Another issue we would like Abdul Khalid to clarify is his claim that he will be suing Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB) and will win RM300 million.

"How did Abdul Khalid know he would win his case against PNB if it went to court and how did he know he would be awarded RM300 million?" Khalid asked.

Furthermore, Khalid said, less than a month after Bank Islam dropped its suit against Abdul Khalid in February this year, a series of business deals were signed.

"What is interesting is that the business deals were signed between the Selangor government and Eco World Berhad, a company controlled by Rashid."

Khalid said that in March this year Tropicana Corp Bhd sold 308.72 acres of land to Eco World Development Group Bhd for RM470.67 million.

The land had originally been part of a 1,172-acre landbank purchased for RM1.3 billion from Permodalan Nasional Selangor Berhad last year.

Khalid pointed out that although Tropicana Corp had bought the land for RM1.3 billion, they had only paid RM50 million upfront.

"The balance was supposed to be paid in installments over an 18-year period," said Khalid, adding that the menteri besar should shed light on this matter.

"This deal was approved by the caretaker government in Selangor last year when the state legislative had been dissolved for the 13th general election.

"So how is it a land deal of this magnitude, which requires the consent of the Selangor menteri besar, went through?" Khalid asked.

Khalid also expressed doubts over the awarding of a RM591 million contract to Eco World to build 2,400 affordable houses in Sungai Sering, Ukay Perdana.

"This project to build affordable houses was done via an open tender process. Eco World did not even enter the process," Khalid said.

"Abdul Khalid should explain the rationale for Eco World being awarded the contract ahead of other firms which had tendered their bids," he said.

Khalid said he wanted clarification on all these issues because he wanted to attend the PAS central committee meeting with full confidence.

"PAS's Majlis Shura Ulama has said Khalid should be retained as the Selangor menteri besar because he has not committed any breach of trust.

"These issues which I have raised are pertinent to proving that Abdul Khalid's integrity has not been compromised," Khalid said.

The tussle over the Selangor menteri besar position in Malaysia's wealthiest state has steadily worsened with the embattled Abdul Khalid refusing to step down.

PKR has been pressuring Abdul Khalid to step down from his position with party president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail chosen to replace him. – tmi

Out-of-court Settlement...

It is publicly known that Khalid has an outstanding loan with Bank Islam of RM66.67 million for his defaulted loan related to the Guthrie allocated to him from the assistance of Anwar Ibrahim when he was Finance Minister and Deputy Prime Minister and Khalid was GM of PNB.

That allocation was questionable because he is a PNB employee. If he was given, then other capable and there are those more capable and intelligent than Khalid, why were they not given?

One suspicion was Khalid had bomoh the late Tun Ismail Ali into liking him. He was going around with a big songkok similar to the victim of the murderous bomoh Mona Fandey, Dato Mazlan. The late Tun would jump on any staff whenever he could not comprehend their written or verbal presentation but not stuttering Khalid.

But that is the stuff of gossip. Khalid got it because of Anwar.

Co-incidently last week, there was an out of court settlement of the loan which has already reached the Federal Court level and Khalid lost twice at High Court and Appeal Court. The Edge broke the news.

Cancellation of Bank Islam - Khalid suit prompts political speculations

THE CANCELLATION of a Federal Court hearing of a legal suit between Bank Islam (M) Bhd and Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim has given rise to speculation that the two parties may be opting for an out of court settlement.

The case that was to be heard yesterday pertained to a Bank Islam suit to get the courts to rule that certain issues in the original suit filed by the bank against Khalid can be referred to the Syariah Advisory Council of Bank Negara Malaysia.

In the original suit filed in 2007, Bank Islam had sued Khalid to recover some RM70 million given to the latter under an Islamic loan facility. The money was used by Khalid to buy a 5% stake in Kumpulan Guthrie Bhd of which he was the chief executive officer.

Khalid subsequently counter sued Bank Islam and, among other things, aid the Bank had wrongfully sold the Guthrie shares that were pledged as collateral. The two cases were subsequently consolidated into one.

During the course of the hearing of the original suit, several legal and constitutional issues were raised, one of which was whether the Syariah related matters of the case should be decided by the civil court itself or be referred to the Syariah Advisory Council of Bank Negara.

Bank Islam then filed a case to argue that these matters should be referred to the Syariah Advsiory Council and that its decision should be final and binding.

This case had reached the Federal Court level and was to have been heard yesterday but legal sources it was "vacated" at the last minute.

The lawyer for Bank Islam, Tommy Thomas could not be reached, while the lead counsel for Khalid, Mathew Thomas Philip said "we are not at liberty to comment."

An out of court settlement now will be sure to add more spice and speculation to the drama unfolding over the future of Khalid and whether the Pakatan Rakyat intends to replace him as the Menteri Besar of Selangor following the decision of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to contest the Kajang state by-election.

Supporters of Khalid say that any development in the legal case between Bank Islam and Khalid is totally unrelated and should not be used to justify any move to unseat him as Menteri Besar. - anotherbrickinwall.blogspot

Is Khalid beyond party's scrutiny...

How does one become the head of a government? And when one does, does one forget the people who supported you and voted you into public office?

Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, the beleaguered incumbent Selangor Menteri Besar, believes that state government matters are separate from the party and he does not need to explain his actions to the party or rather, he is beyond the party's scrutiny.

So, who is he answerable to? To the state ruler? To the people who elected him directly in Port Klang or to the people who voted for his Pakatan Rakyat (PR) coalition or to those who had confidence in him as menteri besar?

When he was the prime minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad had always stressed that he was only in that office because he was the Umno president. He owed his position as PM to his his party and that was why he had to take cognisance of the party's views in running the country.

Obviously, Khalid does not think the same way.

In a three-page reply addressed to the PKR disciplinary board chairman Datuk Dr Tan Kee Kwong, which was posted on the Selangorku website, Khalid said the board's show cause letter had asked him to give detailed explanations on five issues.

They include the water restructuring deal in Selangor, MB's new allowance, tax increase on business licenses, the proposed Kidex expressway and the Bank Islam out-of-court settlement issue.

"The five additional issues which have been raised were discussed by the state government committee which has the executive power to administer Selangor.

"The PKR disciplinary board only has the authority to decide on any transgressions related to the party and not state administrative issues," Khalid said in his reply, which his political secretary submitted to the party this morning.

This is where Khalid is wrong.

He is answerable to his party because he is the MB by virtue of the support and confidence of his party. The party leadership now has no confidence in him, hence the crisis enveloping the state government.

As a public official, he is also answerable to the voters and that is why he has to make public the out-of-court settlement with Bank Islam. If he had lost the case, Khalid could be a bankrupt and lose his Port Klang state seat and be out of the Selangor Menteri Besar's job in a flash.

He obviously does not view the situation that way. What would his options be if PKR goes ahead and sacks him? What would his options be if his executive councillors resign?

And, who put him where he is today? At the very least, he should listen to those who put him in public office, supported his job, and end this sorry spectacle of a leader ignoring his own people.- tmi

Laporan Kes-Kes Bersabit Integriti Melibatkan Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim

Khuatir berpecah, PAS tangguh mesyuarat ke 13 Ogos

PKR must sack Khalid, Pakatan must drop PAS or lose credibility with voters...

PKR is finally playing hardball with its very own Benedict Arnold, Khalid Ibrahim. For far too long his plump, puffing figure in ridiculous wig has uselessly occupied the Chief Minister’s chair, while delivering nothing to the hapless rakyat who so hopefully voted Pakatan in.

In hindsight, it was a bad idea to install in Selangor a figure like Khalid Ibrahim who profited obscenely from Umno policies that benefited only the elite few.

It is clear that Khalid Ibrahim has taken advantage of Anwar Ibrahim’s too-generous nature for his own gain. It is truly a case of, to cite the Malay proverb, ‘melepaskan anjing tersepit’. Khalid now turns around and bites those who had helped him.

Ingrate

There was never a time when Khalid did anything particularly competent. He had, in Guthrie, clung on like a leech to his position despite being asked to go, and he is repeating this shameless behavior now. The reason for his dismissal in Guthrie was no different, one imagines, than it is now. He is grossly incompetent.

Rubbish lies uncollected in Selangor, rivers clogged, reservoirs empty, roads in disrepair. Selangor, led by this visionless and mediocre fellow, is become a bleak and joyless land. With his background in running plantations, Khalid is a ludicrous misfit in today’s world.

Where are the investments in technology and productivity? What is Khalid doing to give Selangor a place as a software and technology powerhouse in a world where Apple has a higher market-cap that Exxon or GM?

Khalid, bereft of creativity or vision, trumpets instead about saving money, which should have rightly been spent on public works. He has been reduced to fiddling with numbers to cover up the fact that Selangor is at a standstill, its economy stagnant.

Umno's man lock, stock and barrel?

The entire water shortage problem came about because Khalid twiddled his fingers instead of aggressively addressing the problem. In the end he handed out big contracts to known Umno cronies for the Langat 2 project. That project consists of building a couple of big tanks and hoping for rain! Where Selangor should be looking at smart, second-generation infrastructures to meet the current and future water needs of Selangorians, they instead dump billions of ringgit into a lifeless pile of cement.

This handing out of large contracts to known associates of Pakatan’s political foes i.e BN and Umno, was particularly evident after Khalid was mysteriously forgiven a RM66 million loan by Bank Islam.

It is clear that Khalid Ibrahim is Umno’s man, lock, stock and barrel. His reason for clinging on so desperately to power even now, is no doubt on Umno’s instructions, with the intention to cause as much trouble as possible to Pakatan.

PKR the glue that binds Pakatan

It is unfortunate that several PAS leaders have supported Khalid Ibrahim. In the first instance, they should not be meddling in PKR’s internal affairs. PKR is the glue that holds Pakatan together, which BN and Umno well knows. Those who try to weaken PKR are dancing to Umno’s tune, whether consciously until or not.

It is clear now, even to the casual observer, that Khalid Ibrahim has been exploiting the natural fissures of coalition politics to cling on to power by playing one party against the other. PKR should have put their foot down a lot sooner. Appeasement is a poor substitute for management.

Pakatan must get rid of Khalid Ibrahim now. He not only does not belong in the MB’s seat, he does not belong in PKR. Nor should slimy characters like him have any place in Pakatan Rakyat.

Indeed Pakatan as an entity may require a rethink if what Rafizi Ramli exposed of PAS’s intention to make Tengku Razaleigh PM, is indeed true. And PAS misogyny is exposed in their questioning of PKR’s nomination of DS Wan Azizah for MB.

Best to ditch PAS now instead of having them as an uncomfortable partner with questionable links to Umno. It may need new strategies and take longer to get to Putrajaya without PAS, but Pakatan will not have a millstone around its neck when it gets there. - Malaysia Chronicle

Kit Siang: Aug 10 D-Day for Pakatan, not Khalid...

Contrary to a Malaysiakini report that Aug 10 will be a day of reckoning for Selangor Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim, Lim Kit Siang sees the date as heralding D-Day for Pakatan Rakyat.

"It is D-Day for Pakatan whether it can continue carrying the hopes of Malaysians for political change," the veteran DAP leader said in a media statement.

The Gelang Patah MP also admitted that Pakatan was facing its worst crisis since the opposition bloc’s formation after the 12th general election in 2008.

"The developments in the past two weeks pertaining to the issue of the Selangor menteri besar have gravely undermined public confidence in Pakatan as a viable alternative coalition to BN," he said.

The crisis of confidence further heightened when, apart from PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang and PAS spiritual leader Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat backing Khalid, the PAS Syura Council today also declared its support for the menteri besar.

Council chairperson Nik Aziz and his deputy Haron Din said in a joint statement that the decision was made based on public interest, which surpassed the interests of individuals and parties.

Expressions of support aside, recent weeks have also witnessed public spats between Pakatan members, with the latest being PAS MP Nasrudin Hassan accusing Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng of awarding the Penang tunnel project through direct negotiations.

Guan Eng today told Nasrudin to retract his "lies" or risk being sued.

PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, on the other hand, urged Pakatan members to stay positive and reminded them that they represent the people's hope for change.

Meanwhile, Lim believes that the coalition can survive the crisis of confidence if Pakatan leaders are committed to the original aspirations in the formation of the opposition bloc and its common policy framework.

"If all Pakatan leaders continue to be guided by the common policy principles and framework, Pakatan will forge ahead to its destiny to replace BN in the next general election," he added.

Lim said the alternative was "too horrendous to contemplate as Pakatan will be relegated to the footnotes of Malaysian history".

Malaysiakini today theorised that Sunday would be D-Day for Khalid as PAS and DAP would convene top leadership meetings to decide whether he should continue as menteri besar.- mk

Bekas ketua Wanita Gerakan sertai pesta sukan bogel...

Dia Ketua Wanita di Kedah ketika berusia 20-an.

The participants of Penang Nude Sports

UMNO draws link between DAP and nudists...

Were nudists emboldened by the fact that Penang is under the control of a DAP-led state government and therefore felt free and unafraid to participate in the “nude sports” event?

This is the question posed by Penang Umno chief Zainal Abidin Osman, according to a report in Umno Online.

His statement comes after The Star Online reported that Gerakan admitted that a female participant in the event was a former Kedah Gerakan Wanita chief.

However, Gerakan deputy president Cheah Soon Hai told a press conference in Alor Setar that the woman, in her 40s, is no longer a party member and that Gerakan is not involved in the event.

Zainal (left) also took a swipe at Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng for his statement that the Umno leader claimed “deflected responsibility” over the incident.

“The statement on the state government’s stand on the nude sports event is irresponsible.

“When the number of tourists increases, the state government does not shy away from taking credit but when the tourists who come here indulge in disgusting and embarrassing acts, the state government is quick to push the responsibility to others,” he said.

Lim had said that a Taman Negara ranger was aware of the nudist activity at the forest reserve in Teluk Bahang, which caught national attention when a video clip of the event went viral on the Internet.

He then urged the Taman Negara authorities to act on the matter as the national park is under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.

Meanwhile, Zainal described the “nude sports” event as an “insult of the highest order” and that it has tarnished the name of Penang and Malaysia.

In view of this, he called on the Tourism Ministry and travel agencies to ensure that tourists understand and respect local cultures and religions.

“Penang Umno also understands that the police have opened an investigation paper on the incident and identified some of those involved as well as recorded statements from various individuals.

“We hope the authorities will expedite their investigations and charge those involved, especially the individual who organised the event,” Zainal added.- mk

One of the participants in the nude sport games that took place on a beach at the Teluk Bahang National Park in Penang two months ago was a former Kedah Gerakan Wanita chief.

Party deputy president Datuk Dr Cheah Soon Hai said the woman, who was the wing's chief in the 1980s, was no longer a party member.

Her membership lapsed after she stopped paying fees for over 20 years, he said.

"I do not know her personally and I did not see the video of the nudist event. Gerakan was queried about her by reporters who somehow found out about her.

"I asked Kedah Gerakan to check and it was confirmed that she was a member. She was Wanita chief in Kedah in her 20s. She is from Lunas and is now 54.

"Gerakan is shocked that a nudist event had taken place in Penang,” he added, referring to the viral video of a group of people participating in a nude sports event in Penang.

Public nudity is not allowed in Malaysia and police are tracking down the 15 people shown in the video. Seven of them are Malaysians.- tmi

Khalid nak bertegang leher buat apa lagi kalu parti dah meluat kat hang...

(we think not less of Khalid Ibahim).

Yakni beri Khalid Ibrahim the marching orders?

Saya kata pelacur-politik – suatu term of art.

It’s a simple case of babir dan degil.- Mohd.Ariff Sabri bin Hj. Abdul Aziz@sakmongkol ak47

PAS is passe but divorcing PKR and DAP is hard to do...

"There clearly is a split" was how political analyst Wan Saiful Wan Jan summed up the tenuous situation in PAS.

He acidly added that "PAS members need to make up their mind on whether they want to be a mainstream party that could improve Malaysia's governance, or whether they just want to go to heaven."

A netizen responded to the rhetorical statement this way: "PAS cannot go to heaven AND go mainstream?"

Wan Saiful was referring to the split right down the middle of PAS over the Selangor menteri besar's post that laid bare the soul of the Islamic party.

The fight over PKR's move to replace menteri besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim with PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail provided the catalyst.

The PAS schism is between the conservatives who want a return to the party's struggle for an Islamic state, and the progressives who wish to work within Pakatan Rakyat on its common policy framework which omits mention of hudud, the Islamic penal code.

While the conservatives refuse to compromise on their insistence of an Islamic state, the progressives know that Putrajaya is within reach only by working within Pakatan.

Led by deputy president Mohamad Sabu, the progressives are fully aware that Malaysians as a whole are not ready for hudud that the conservatives are bent on pushing.

For the conservatives, the struggle is more important than winning on the premise that "real victory is in the afterlife."

According to a recent survey by the Merdeka Centre, nearly three in five Malaysians believed the country is not ready for hudud.

A total of 59% of those polled shared the belief, with 58% of Malays agreeing. The percentage among Chinese was 59%, and among Indians 61%.

Just 25% of all respondents, and 30% of Malays, believed that Malaysia is ready for hudud.

The political arithmetic in the Selangor state assembly muddles the debate within PAS and between the Islamic party and PKR/DAP.

Pakatan has 44 seats while Umno holds the remaining 12 in the 56-seat legislature. Within Pakatan, PAS and DAP have 15 seats each, while PKR has 14.

Muddling the mess is PAS' ambition to fill the menteri besar's post.

They point out that PAS has one seat more than PKR, conveniently forgetting that PAS' treachery in the last general election had cost PKR the Kota Damansara constituency.

Mohamad preemptively scuttled the idea when he said recently that PAS should not helm the state as it would lead to a Pakatan loss in the next state elections.

However, elements among the PAS conservatives harbour lingering ambitions to cooperate with Umno, beginning with Selangor.

They are mindful that if PAS teams up with Umno, they will have 27 seats.

They will then need just two defections from PKR/DAP to command a simple majority of 29 out of 56 seats, thereby grabbing the menteri besar's post from PKR.

But PAS research director Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad called on his party to convene a central committee meeting immediately to settle all problems definitively.

"Please my friends, wake up from the preoccupation and ruthless cyclical trap. Enough is enough of destroying Pakatan Rakyat," he said.

"It would be a tragedy if Pakatan Rakyat ends here," the party progressive added.

So what was PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang up to when he went against his own party's and Pakatan's presidential council decision to replace Khalid?

Mohamad was quick to retort that it was merely Hadi's "personal view."

But Hadi was supported by PAS spiritual leader Datuk Seri Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat.

Hadi is known to favour cooperating with Umno, while Nik Aziz is vehemently opposed to any cooperation with the ruling party, so the spiritual leader's support further confuses matters.

PAS Youth chief Suhaizan Kaiat was the first senior leader to confess that his party is in crisis.

Hadi's move to back Khalid had come as a surprise as PAS was represented at the Pakatan presidential council meeting by six senior leaders who carried the party's mandate to agree on replacing the menteri besar.

The six were Mohamad, vice-presidents Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man and Datuk Husam Musa, secretary-general Datuk Mustafa Ali, central committee member Dr Hatta Ramli and Suhaizan, most of whom are seen as progressives.

Unless PAS resolves this conflict internally and with PKR and DAP, it will revert to "a regional party confined to the east coast of the peninsula" in the words of its deputy president.

"Without Pakatan, our area of dominance would only stretch from Rantau Panjang (in northern Kelantan) to Kemaman (southern Terengganu)," Mohamad said at PAS' last muktamar (assembly.

Polis kenal pasti 15 peserta sukan bogel...

Siasat rekod Taman Negara

- mk

Taman Negara ranger assisted at nudist camp...

Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said a Taman Negara ranger was aware of the nudist activity at the forest reserve in Teluk Bahang, which caught national attention when a video clip of the event went viral on the Internet.

Lim said he was shocked to see a comment from a participant in the Internet that a ranger, yet to be identified by the authorities, helped the group set up a campfire before they went to sleep.

"This is very unusual. I haven't seen the video but it is learnt there was a ranger in the background. That ranger was on duty that day," Lim told a press conference at Komtar.

"It seems the group had told the ranger about their nude activities and went on to do it.

"After their programme, they got his help to set up a campfire. He even helped pour some gasoline to help start the fire, " he said.

Lim urged the Taman Negara  authorities to act on the matter as the national park is under jurisdiction of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.

He was referring to the controversial and illegal activity, captured in a video clip titled "Penang Nudist Sports Games 2014", which took place in Teluk Kampi, where the national park is located.

Police report lodged yesterday

Individuals believed to be aged between 30 and 45 were seen engaging in nude body painting, Gangnam Style Horse Dance and around a campfire in the five-minute video clip.

Lim noted that a police report on the incident was lodged at the Balik Pulau station yesterday by the Teluk Bahang Pakatan Rakyat coordinator Halik Sabri Hamid.

State police chief Abdul Rahim Hanafi said the force had identified 15 individuals, among them seven Malaysians, who took part in the nudist sport, and will soon make the necessary arrests.

"We don't know how this (ranger helping out in the nudist activity) can happen under the federal government jurisdiction," Lim said, adding that neither the state nor its local council had power over the area.

Lim reiterated that the state government would not approve such activities in Penang, but was surprised that it was given so much coverage in the media, with some splashing the news on their front pages.

Lim said the nudist activity in Penang was not the first in Malaysia, and he then distributed copies of news reports on other incidents in the country, including the latest in a Perak jungle on June 24.

That incident involved an episode of "Naked and Afraid" in the show "Pain Forest", in which the participants who were filmed naked.

This came after reports in May revealed the shooting of a nude scene in the Danish version of reality show "Survivor", titled "Robinson Ekspeditionen", on an island off Mersing, Johor.

Earlier, in July 2010, news reports revealed that there were couples caught in sexual trysts in Terengganu, with many of those involved said to be students from institutes of higher learning.

"Such activity seems to get a lot of coverage when it happens here and not in the other states, where there is less interest and coverage," Lim quipped.

Lim spoke to the media after a meeting with state executive councillors, at which where a report on the issue by a Taman Negara officer, Saat Yaakob, was shared with the media.

In his report, Saat said the national park had received a complaint about the matter from Umno Telub Bahang assemblyperson Shah Headan Ayoob Hussain Shah.

He said the activity was carried out under the guise of preserving and protecting the environment and that the video clip of the nudist sport was uploaded on YouTube about two months ago by Chew Tok Hua, believed to be a Taiwanese.

"We have lodged a complaint with the Malaysian Multimedia and Communications Commission to act on the video - to stop its distribution, links or sharing in the social media," Saat said in the report.

"This is because the distribution of the video is immoral and touches on the sensitivities of the local people and the harmony among Malaysians.

"Those who organised the activity are believed to be those who practise deviant and immoral culture," he added. - mk
