Zahid vows to 'bury' Anwar in Perak...
Perak Umno chairperson Mohd Zahid Hamidi has vowed to make sure that opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim will not win any seat he contests in the state.
"We will make sure that he loses," he promised when met by reporters after attending the BN supreme council meeting at the Putra World Trade Centre today.
However Zahid said that he believed Anwar (right) will not contest in seats which BN had won like his seat of Bagan Datuk, but will gravitate towards Pakatan-held seats.
"Whether he or anyone else, lawan tetap lawan, (fight no matter what)," he promised.
Zahid said that Umno is not scared of Anwar's decision to lead Pakatan's fight in Perak.
"Just like we are not scared of Lim Kit Siang going to Johor," he added.
Asked about BN's chances in what was once Malaysia's premier silver producing state, Zahid is confident of a win.
"However to get two-thirds majority will require extraordinary effort," he conceded.
Yesterday, Anwar told reporters that he is set to move to a Perak seat, despite sentimental attachment to his Permatang Pauh hometown seat and protests from long-time supporters.
He said that he will explain to his loyal voters that he needs to move to Perak to spearhead Pakatan's bid to recapture the state in coming polls and not because he is abandoning them.-malaysiakini
‘Live and die in Pekan’ Najib mocks Anwar...
Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim is feeling insecure in his own
constituency of Permatang Pauh, claimed Barisan Nasional chairman Najib
Tun Razak today.
“He is abandoning the people who supported him all this while. If he
can leave Permatang Pauh, what is there to talk about his principles and
loyalty,” Najib said after chairing the BN presidential council meeting
at the PWTC here today.
As for him, Najib said that he would never dream of leaving Pekan.
“Politically speaking, I will live and die in Pekan,” he said.
Yesterday, Anwar announced that he would be contesting for a Perak parliamentary seat in the 13th general election.
He also admitted that his decision may upset some of his supporters in Permatang Pauh but vowed to explain his move to the voters soon.
Najib also told reporters that BN would be launching its manisfesto on Saturday, which would focus on improving the economy and the living standards of the people.
“It will be based on our national transformation agenda. It is our promise to the people and we are committed to fulfilling our promises once we receive the mandate of the voters,” he said.
He also said that BN would announce its list of candidates “sooner than usual” to allow aspirants time to prepare themselves better.
“It will also allow us to see public reaction to our candidates and minimise problems,” said Najib.
‘We will win’
However, he was coy when asked whether BN could win two-thirds majority in the general election, saying he was cautiously optimistic about it.
“We will win big but we have to work hard to minimise internal problems in the party,” said Najib.
“We have to work hard towards it and we have to make sure we minimise all internal problems within the party,” Najib said, in an apparent reference to factional struggles within his Umno.
On allegations that some quarters may cause problems during the polling day, he urged everyone to respect the Malaysian electoral process.
“Please respect our parliamentary democracy. Uphold its integrity and allow voters to make their choices freely. Don’t create a scene by scaring and stopping people from voting,” he said.-FMT
